I have noticed how all the previous galaxy notes have had the formla match function, where you write a formula and it gives you the answer by using wolfram alpha, either in the S-Finder or the S-note, however ive realised, theyve removed the S-Finder in the note 4 and the formula function isnt in the S-Note, is it somewhere wher i cant find it or have the removed the feature? :crying:
I think I've seen it inside the calculator application on the Note 4.
Try hovering over the calculator's input field with the S-Pen and click on the button for the handwriting field.
Can't test it though as I haven't gotten my Note 4 yet.
Thanks

Cheers =) im going to O2 tommorow so il definetely check it out. ive been looking for this for so long, thank you so much!! ;D
I've never used the feature you are talking about, but after doing some looking around, I found a button that transforms your writing into a formula. Haven't been able to get it to solve anything though.

I dont know, i dont really see why they removed it in the first place. the most common answer ive seen is that its in the calculator, il check that the next time i use it. If they have removed it, theres only one way you can get it, but i dont know if thats capable of handwriting recognition, only one way to find out and thts to wait and find out.
I cchecked

I've never had a touch screen phone and am wondering about the Nexus 4.
One of the things I want to be able to do with the Nexus 4 is make memos or notes to myself using hand writting. Does anyone see any reason why the Nexus 4 would not be able to do this?
BTW I have a GNote10.1 with the S-Pen and know the Nexus 4 does not come with a pen but I think a finger or scribe should work.
I also want to beable to read text files on the Nexus 4. Can you see any problems with doing that?
Has anyone heard if the Nexus 4 will work wifi without a carrier?
Yes, Yes, and YES

You should be able to find an app that does this, or something similar. As far as I'm aware, however, there is no native/pre-installed app that supports this. Not on any of the Android phones I've played around with at least, apart from the Note smartphones, of course.

Nope! No problem at all. You should have no problem at all reading text files (.doc, .docx, .txt, etc) on your Android device. Particularly with something like OpenOffice.

It should do! Most other Android phones do, they just complain that there's no SIM card. It'll work as an Android-equivalent of an iPod Touch, basically.
Thanks for the replies.
For writing memos, I use an app called Quill. Might wanna look into it

No idea what it's called. But looks like it resizes the phone's usable area for one handed use. VERY cool, nice find!

hi , take a look at this link and read relevant article and take note of picture ......
My guess is its not Note 3 ?/ ( in video) or that feature comes from a device '"Vivo Xplay " a android phone ,also 5.7 inch screen ??
http://phandroid.com/2013/05/07/vivo-xplay-android-phone/
I read a while back about this feature , here on Xda , about it.The feature is called "Free Touch '
i have seen some sort of custom ROM read this thread for info ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344238
I might be wrong but take a look
good luck
In the instruction manual that was recently posted, it does say there is a setting for one handed operation (page 50 of the manual). There's no diagram so it may or may not be similar to this feature, but one handed operation is included in some form on the Note 3.

hi,
i also think you are correct ,that the Note 3 could have adopted this type of function( one handed function)
I have read the Note 3 manual and yes if you look at wording etc( on page 50) it seems like
they implemented similar feature, than what the Vivo Xplay had ?
If so, i give it a thumbs up, as i was after this "Free Touch '"feature when i first saw it ..interesting !
That guy totally wasted our time, he didn't show how it works in that "windowed" mode...
Love the idea, I have to use phone with one hand all the time and with my short fingers it's practically impossible reach far corners, this would be absolutely perfect.
Can someone confirm this existing on N3?
P.S.
It's definitively N3 (or something faking it), Vivo Xplay doesn't have middle hardware button.
hi ,
yes on Note2(for those who don't have Note2 ) presently only have a few one handed features
(keyboard ,dailer caculator and these apps ,you can only move left or right side off screen, see attached)
So i think Samsung, must have added " these " extra features..!!
Can anybody confirm it ?
edit .. post note
i see NZtechfreak confirms it in his post summary " So I had half a weekend to play with the Note 3, what did I think?"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446868
(see halfway down page )
good to know!
Okay so we all know the S4 for the US carriers had the auto correct feature disabled without any way to enable it (Thank you Apple). Installing an international keyboard resulted in extreme lag.
The big question is will the Note 3 keyboard suffer the same fate because of the Apple lawsuit? I know some of you dislike auto correct but for me typing without it is an infuriating mess. I like Swiftkey and the Android keyboard but I really like Samsung's number row at the top and would prefer to use that instead.
Perhaps N2 keyboard could be ported in case it's disabled?
Why not download Google keyboard from play store
Never mind I see you mentioned that already
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
If I'm not mistaken samsung keyboard is the only keyboard that supports multi-window
Auto-correct isn't universally reviled?
hmmm so nobody knows the answer to this one? I was about to make a thread and found this one thanks to the XDA feature before creating a thread, previous ones pop up....
But this questions sort of suggests that the International version of the Note 3 comes with auto correct within the new keyboard.... why would the US version not come with it? can someone confirm? i loved the Note 2's keyboard but it didnt have auto correction... just word prediction but you could not enable auto correct, press the space bar and continue typing on the keyboard... this should be a no brainer feature to have but for some reason, Samsung keeps finding a way to avoid adding it to the features..
again, can someone confirm? we'd appreciate it a lot
My phone is unbranded&unlocked and I bought it here in the Middle East so I have no idea what US or EU carriers will have.
But yes, it does come with auto-correct although they call it "auto-replacement".
Other included options: Auto-Capitalization, Auto-Spacing, Auto-Punctuate, Predictive Text Continuous Input, Character Preview etc...
The AT&T version most certainly has all the auto correct features you could ever want, even with hand written

It shows the handwriting autocorrect, if that's what you were asking about. I don't see why an AT&T device would have this feature omitted, but you know..."carriers"...

well at 8:34 in this video, the Qualcom version of the note 3 (USA) looks like it does have auto correct (pressing the space bar to select corrected word) yes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFTSripjgPg
Hi Guys!
I hope this has not been discussed and it's not a dumb question.
I just got my first android phone which is the note3. Ex-apple fanboy and man am I glad I switched!
Dont think I can ever go back to my iphone ever again.
That said, I cant seem to figure out one feature. Is there a way to create keyboard shortcuts? Ie - type omw and the phone will convert that to on my way?
I have looked online and all over in the phone and this is driving me insane!
Thanks again!

I don't actually know if there is a keyboard out there that supports it. SwiftKey doesn't and the Samsung stock doesn't either. Smart keyboard might have this feature, you can try search for it in the playstore. But if it's not that important to you, then I'd suggest to try SwiftKey instead. It's a killer keyboard and I bet it will blow your mind if you're used to Apple's keyboard

I guess I will have to keep my eye open for something of the sort in the future.
Out of curiousity, I thought I read about some form of screen recording function on the galaxy note, but have no yet found that either.
Is that a feature of the note3 or an app? All I can do is screenshots it seems...

The Note 3 does not have screen recording. It is not limited to hardware though, so it is possible in the future. Screen recording is built in with Android 4.4 and above, so you might see the feature in the upcoming 4.4 update for Note 3. However, it will probably not arrive until January sometime is my guess. It's also worth noting that especially Samsung is known for removing some of Androids core features and add some of their own. Therefore it's not sure that we will get screen recording with 4.4 for Note 3. With that being said, you can download an application that offers screen recording, however that require your phone rooted. Keep in mind that rooting will possibly break your warranty.

Thanks for the info! Rooting Isn't a problem, and I'm ok with the warranty thing. I actually pay a monthly fee for an extended warranty because I drop phones a lot
I wish Samsung would be more like the Nexus series!
Any programs that record the screen that you guys recommend?

I don't know any myself, I just know there are a few in the Play Store. I never had the need for it myself, so I haven't tried them out. I'd recommend searching in the playstore and looking for the most downloaded one as well as the one with most stars.

Hello i bought a clone of the note 3, an sm n9006. This phone have smart control, air gesture but not Air Command.
When i extract the pen it is like the pen is still inside and nothing appear. Air command seems to not work correctly. inside the phone it is snote software and the pen" work".
The exact model is N9006ZCUBMI3 and the build is JSS15.N9006ZCUBMI5.
Using a different rom for 9006 could be unlock the air command?

Lolz dude non offense but your coming to the att note 3 board to talk about a Chinese knock off clone? And your actually surprised that some knock off features aren't included or functioning? Lol
Sorry man not trying to be a jerk but you should have known when you ordered it that you were taking a long shot when 99% of the clone ads are full of lies and misrepresentations.
Good luck but I'm guessing you won't find much support or help in this board jmo of course
