Trading my phone in on att next program, should I take my phone in Stock? It's not for warranty purposes so I'm thinking it shouldn't matter.
I'm rooted, with custom Rom.
Probably you'll not need to flash in stock, because you're not giving your device for repair purpose..
..
They could class it as being damaged because I think in America they can refuse warranty claims of rooted phones, so either they could refuse to take at all or lower the trade value if they decide to be nasty.
So just be safe and flash back to stock.

This has been discussed in other threads -- The problem here, however is that you still have to unlock the bootloader, so you are no longer left with a "stock" N1 and warranty is voided.
The easier 'equivalent' method is just to unlock the bootloader, install the custom recovery menu and then install the Modaco rooted 2.2. update.zip.
people keep saying this but warrantly is NOT voided.. you cannot void the warranty for s/w changes.. if there is a hardware issue htc has said and has honored their warranty.. now if you get the phone all fubared because of some software issue and cannot figure out how to recover or reinstall kernal, radio etc. then yes they may not cover it.
lgkahn, what do you base your statement on? Documentation clearly states that unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty. Once warranty is voided, it is really up to HTC to decide if they want to honour your no longer existing hardware warranty or not. There are people here that have successfully negotiated hardware repairs even after unlocking the bootloaders, but others who have not been able to if, I understand things correctly.
If you have any solid contrary information, please let us know. Thank you
Not to mention one of the latest posts is a guy trying to clean out the dust from behind his screen because HTC will not honor his warranty.
not true at all if you read the dust issue post it is because he knows he will bet another refurb if he warranties it.. not because they will not honor it.
gotta love spam

There has been a lot of discussion here of people who had their warrantied devices returned to them untouched because their bootloader was unlocked. Not all the time, but it may happen if you do that. The guide above is misleading because it does mention that your device will no longer remain stock.
Closing this thread as the original poster has already posted this in another thread... no need to start a brand new one.

u can use z4root modified to root and unroot your phone.this can be found at modaco.
It's just an urban legend that rooting voids your warranty. You live in EU, so if the dealer tells you that rooting "removed" phone warranty, it means he's wrong. I also live in EU and we have some nice laws here. Just bricked one of my phones after rooting + downgrading Android. It was replaced under warranty (the dealer didn't want to do it first, but still replaced the phone when I told him that I know consumer rights).
the way i did when my vodafone smart 858 died on me (not due to bricking just a faulty device) installed a stock rom and the recovery and phone were back to stock no more root on the phone and no clockwork recovery were left hope that helps
N.B: im not sure if this method still leaves traces of rooting on the phone
Guys, rooting does NOT void your warranty (even if sellers would love it to happen).
The above poster is correct even if the shop states it voids warranty in my country there is a law that states a 2 year warranty on all products if you have consumer rights in your country dont be afraid to use them

First something about European warranty i learned:
I ordered a GT-N7100 last week from a webshop and called today for the status, and also inquired if the phone is a genuine Dutch device. Turns out it is a Frech device, but as it is a European phone warranty is no problem. I called Samsung Netherlands to here from them for the procedure of the warranty. Here is the tricky part, repairs of the device are covered by warranty by Samsung Netherlands but if the device is heavily malfunctioning and cannot be used anymore Samsung will not replace the device with a new one as it is no Dutch device. In that case you go have to go back to to store/dealer where you bought the device and they have to provide a replacement phone.
Now to answer the title: If you flash firmware with Odin to replace the French firmware iin this case with original PHN Dutch firmware, you void your warranty. Because flashing firmware (or any other software) with Odin is illegal becasue the original firmware was modified . According to the Samsung employee only Kies and OTA`s are allowed means of updating or flashing firmware.
I for one was not aware flashing with Odin is equal to rooting the phone in terms of warranty claims.
Samsung will always reserve the right to reject warranty repairs if they can prove your device has been modified, any company would. It doesn't mean that they will reject repairs.
I have never heard of samsung refusing a repair because odin was used instead of Kies to flash an official rom.
Samsung barely even care if your counter is 1 or more, they tend to just monitor that data for internal stats.
But what you said about replacements is correct, if you want/need a replacement it has to go to the service centre in the country the device was from.

Can`t they determine the country of origin by the imei number?

yes they can, but they will rarely check to make sure the software is correct for that region.
What usually happens is
1) is it a hardware fault? yes
2) is the phone showing signs of a hardware modification? no
3) is the phone rooted/custom rom/ etc etc?
if yes - take a decision of if we should repair it
if no - repair
they never normally go "is the software correct for the country it was made in"

In my country samsung service center doesnt care about flash counter number. They firstly reflash stock firmware if problems still exist, then they are trying to repair but mostly they are not able to repair, so they give back money

Had that too with a I9000 once, bricked it and sent it in for repair and it was fixed under warranty. Allthough the device was rooted.
Hello guys and girls. Friend of mine wants to get back to stock. He has rooted custom rom on his HLTE. Could somebody help me on this. Is it possible to change the warranty bit (knox?) or what is it called back to normal so warranty repair shop wont know that it was rooted etc? So how to get back to perfect factory state?
If this has been asked before I'm sorry.
So what phone model ??
Knox depends upon the model but mostly no it cannot be reset and warranty will fail .
I have a SM-G900M, which I've installed a custom ROM g900mubu1cpc4 couple of years ago. Now I'm trading it in to Samsung for to get credit towards a newer phone. I see a lot of stock ROMs available, and not sure which one to choose to revert the changes that I don't remember
Is there any way to figure out which country stock ROM was originally on it? I've read technically it doesn't matter, but since it's going back to Samsung, I want to be precise.
Can someone remind me what else I need to revert the phone beside the ROM? I remember something about locking/unlocking the bootloader, but not sure if ROM would take care of everything.
Thanks!
