Question for Verizon users - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the Verizon S5 have the popup window when you leave the battery door or back cover open?
I have yet to see it.
I have done a factory reset and still never saw it.

[Q] Nexus 4 Spots On Screen

I already trouble shot it with Google but I figured I would ask here as most of you know more than they.
I already did a factory reset 3 days ago because I deleted a file I shouldn't have. But now it has come down to them recommending me do another and then getting back if it still persists.
The problem is when I turn my screen back on I see white spots all over the screen for 2-3 seconds. I can't imagine why, or even why a factory reset is going to fix.
I have NEVER dropped (cross fingers) or got it wet, and truthfully have no idea how to tell and wouldnt want to begin taking the back off.
I am most certain there is no water damage
So I have tried:
Switched Wallpapers
Turned phone off then on
Switched from Apex to Launcher
Still there. I am posting a pic below. If anyone could help I would be most grateful.
Again you prolly know more than most of their employees
One time when I had a problem, but eventually got fixed, this is what I was told, they will do an advanced replacement, BUT I have to pay $350, then get it back when they get and verify the phone I send
I am not working so would not be able to do that. I suppose I could switch to my phone of choice I have here and just send it in?
Or I was told contact LG where there is no downpayment needed.
In either case, back then I was told there was stock for this type of situation, now I am told they no longer have any? You have any idea when they will catch up
THANKS for even taking time to read this, and even more if you can help

Can't imagine what sort of hardware issue or fault would cause that, it looks like some sort of effect done by software.
You need to reset your phone and go back to the stock ROM (if not already using that) and then see if it still does it, I suspect it will not.

Phil
So this was present before the factory reset 3 days ago? If not then do it again

Thanks to everyone, as you were responding, my friend Macky (maybe you know him LOL) suspected it had to be software/app because it showed up on the screen shot. So he said it wasnt hardware
I reset again and no problem
Thanks
lets say it wasn't the app, what could have caused it. (btw I dont root so dont know all the basics you prolly do) Just simple things like the computer that get messed up??

4.4.2 killed my S-view home button

I knew 4.4.2 would piss me off somehow, that's why I delayed installing it for a few days.
So I have a Spigen case with the S-view. The home button used to wake the device up and let me see notifications.
Well thanks to the boys at KitKat, this doesn't occur any more.
Is there a solution to this most irritating of problems?
Great response guys, cheers. :good:
So ever since I made the horrible mistake of downgrading to 4.4.2 - I still have the above problem ^^^^ which neither Samsung nor Spigen can help with.
Additionally, my battery is now being sucked dry by something called "GlanceViewMK" which is taking up more battery than the screen.
Any idea what this is? because I'm about ready to throw this phone out. I haven't got time to spend trying to get a phone to work properly because the KitKat crew screwed up their coding.
I might just get an iPhone
This reminds me of being a computer tech back in the late 90's and having to deal with Microsoft 'updates'.
If u are on a custom Rom try reinstalling. (Best solution imho)
But isn't there an option to wake up the device via home button? xD
I'm using the Spigen Case too and everything is working like it should.

Abnormal factory reset

I just purchased a s5 off craigslist for 350. Thought I did my homework and called Verizon to verify it wasn't lost of stolen. All checked out fine. So went ahead and purchased the phone, bought a sim card and called and activated it through Verizon. That all went find. But during setup of phone I get the abnormal factory reset screen. So I called Verizon, they told me to call Samsung, as I did. They told me to call back with my carrier on the line, again did so. At this point, both told me there's nothing they can do for me. That I needed to contact previous owner, so I did so. I said either give me the info or money back, they quickly said they would give my money back, (great!) we set a time up to meet and they never showed later that night they text me n said they have the info to call them. I did so but she said let me text it to you. Well that was yesterday morning, I've made several contacts to them with no response. So I went to the Web and also went to my brothers (which he is a developer, not a phone developer but he is much more knowledgeable than me). We looked for back doors, but all seem to be patched. I also recreated a Samsung account registering the phone to it, doing a factory reset, still nothing. Tried to flash it to a older version (4.4.4 & 4.4.2). But Odin couldn't get it to pass. I've tried calling the phone & text as its active but nothing shows up. I tried connecting ear phones to it and making the music screen come up, again nothing. I'm out of ideas and out of 350 at this post. hard lesson learned here about buying phones on Craigslist. But I figured I'd post this on here to see if anyone has any other ideas
Sounds like a big ole mess man im not sure if this will help but give it a go http://myandroid.nl/reactivation-lock-solution-for-galaxy-s5/ best of luck
Yeah completely retarded and I'm frustrated with myself for not looking into the phone more.. Unfortunately they have patched the bypass of the link you've posted.
Can you root the phone and install cm 12.1? defo wont nag you about accounts and stuff like that.
The reactivation setting is default on. That's what we believe is stopping Odin from allowing the root/flash to take place
UPDATE:
so after dealing with samsung for many hours, they advsied me to send my phone in. I did so, after receiving it back, the issue was enver fixed. called them back and was advised there was nothing they could do by sending it in (so i wasted my time and money even doing that). now beyond pissed i was advised to take it to best buy and they have a Samsung desk there and could flash it.. (which i attempted to do several weeks ago and they said they couldn't help me). ive tried flashing myself as stated before but had no luck. does anyone have any backdoors/fixes they know? if you don't want it to be publicly known, you can email me just ask for it and ill give you my email.
thanks a bunch, hopefully i can come to some fix

When I turn on the phone sometimes only the buttons light up

Verizon Galaxy S5 which I've had almost a year.
Sometimes when I turn on the screen, the screen flashes and then goes black. The buttons stay lit and I can enter the unlock pattern but not see anything.
Does anyone know if this could be a loose cable or ribbon inside the phone that needs to be tightened or might it be the screen itself? The weird thing is that when the screen does light up, it works perfectly.
If I knew which ribbon could be loose, I'd take the phone apart and tighten it. I'd hate to pay a fix-it shop for something I can do myself.

Warranty Replace
I spoke to a friend who used to work for Verizon and she reminded me that since the phone is less than a year old, I can go into the store and get it replaced under manufacturer's warranty. Yay me.
I will back up the phone's apps and data with titanium backup. Is there a different program that does not require root? I'm asking because I have rooted KitKat on the phone and might want to try going to Lollypop, but am not sure if there's root for that. I guess it's time to dive in, get my hands wet and see just how far one can get with rooting. Also, I will have to return the phone to unrooted status before going in. Such a pain.
Got replacement
I got a warranty replacement and have rooted android Lollypop on it. So happy.
I oden'd back to stock NCG and took all the OTA updates, did a factory reset and added a few apps.
It took the VZW employee less than 5 minutes to determine the phone was defective and in need of a replacement under warranty. The cool thing is that I didn't have to do any factory resets or anything else. The employee tried the test app on the phone and since the flicker is not something that can be tested for, sent me a new phone.

Verizon TabA 8 - Reset to factory now locked up

I need to firs
t explain how I got here. I gave my now ex girlfriend a Verizon Tab A8.
We've had a falling out and during the exchange of words I brought up the Tab A. Well she said "here's your damn tablet" and threw it at me. Fortunately I'm a good catch and it didn't break. So I stormed out of there figuring at least I got the device back.
Got home and reset it to factory defaults. Well dang, I need her pattern to open this thing up.
Needless to say, I'm not about to go back to her to ask her to unlock it before she gives it back. Not only would she not do it but she'd know that she got me! That hurts!
So my question is this: Do I just write this thing off as a dating expense and use it as a paperweight, or is there something I can do to bring it back to default?
Thanks
Fritz
