Plrase advise me as to what i can do. If there is nothig i can do, is my warranty voided because root? Who should i contact for warranty? Att or motorola?

Which method did you root your phone with?...

I dont remember. I was rooted, and than updated my phone to the latest moto release. Lost root and than i had to flash somethig to get root back and than to unlock the hotspot app.
This was about 2 or 3 months back. All was ok till about a month ago, when i dropped the phone to the floor. Noticed the screen issue shortly after. Not sure if the drop caused this tho. There are no scratches on the screen, and it had a silicone case on it.

do you think the problem came from dropping your phone or were you messing with something on your phone? and yes your warrentty is voided, but you could get your own new screen on ebay for like 30 buxs and fix it yourself
Not sure if the drop caused it. Maybe. I noticed the pb soon after. I didn't mees with the phone, other than rooting and enaibeling hotspot.
The screen on ebay, is it the same as the stock one? Same quality?

Try a advanced restore of pds.img from the cwm only to see if that fixes your problem.. Thats if you did backup from cwm..
No, i didn't back up anything. Just rooted. I barely mannaged to do that.

My phone had the same thing and I sbf'd back to 1.26 and took it back no problems. Mine was also unlocked.

I also have that problem, the problem is with the touchscreen not the software. At first, the touchscreen will not work for sometime you'll need to turn the screen off and on again. The problem will start more frequent. Then, the touchscreen on some part of the screen will not work at all. Only to fix is to call ATT for a repair. But, I live in Thailand and I brought mine at US. So, it not worth sending it back. I buy the touchscreen off ebay for $60 and change it myself. Working great now.
Pretty cheap on ebay, some for $40. My screen started acting the exact same way. I honestly believe it's heat damage. I remember reading that there are layers of the glass that are glued together. Extreme heat could cause the layers to come apart enough that sections of the screen are unusable.
My screen is exactly as the OP said, about a half-inch from the bar at the top. I noticed it soon after I started mounting the phone in my car near the top of the windshield where it could get some steady sunlight (obviously I didn't realize it was doing that until I noticed this problem).
I just ordered my replacement off ebay and will give it a shot. It's worth $40 if it'll let me use my phone properly again and hold off having to get a new phone prior to my upgrade price kicking in.
Hopefully installation won't be too hard. Good luck to the rest of ya!
This happen to my boyfriend's phone recently as well. I posted everywhere trying to find a solution but no one could help. It started to get worse after about a week or so where another section, towards the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive as well. My boyfriend finally called Motorola and sent it in for repair. We don't have ATT's insurance so we didn't try that way. Anyways, he's suppose to receive the phone this Monday...we'll see if it's fixed.

Did your touchscreen come with the adhesive? If not, you'll need to be extremely careful when you remove the old one cause you'll need the adhesive or you'll need the two sided tape with <0.25mm thick and apply it to around the touchscreen and remember to apply it as a close system or the dust will go under your screen.
If you need more info just PM me
I think i.ll call moto.

Mine had the same issue, ive unlocked, rooted, modded the rom and radio, so no going to ATT, instead i took it to UbreakItIFixIt, just google them, best $99 i spent and kept all my custom goodies!
Sorry I haven't responded, hopefully you got your phone fixed but just in case you haven't...The phone came back and he hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. The rep on the phone didn't know what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it but whatever they did, it worked. It took about a week or so to get the phone back and the only thing he had to pay for was shipping the phone out.
I tried every solution but it seems it does not work. My atrix is in warranty but it is bootloader unlocked, will motorola still fix it?

Do you mean an earpiece? If you do, this is a rather frequent issue. A spare part can be found on ebay (~15$). My phone had the same issue, I fixed it by myself
I had this issue as well. and none of the "things to try worked" in my case it was surely hardware. Luckly it was just 50 weeks young... (down to the wire) But called AT&T and they had me do a hard reset and said "yep it's broke" and put one on the way. Since during the unlocking process there is a physical change to the phone you can't undo it. However, there's a few threads on what to do before sending your other one back. / Basically it's wipe wipe wipe and install the fruitcakes. Though it doesn't "re-lock" your phone, it no longer says "unlocked" when you first turn it on. And I think they are to busy to go much past that if even that far...
In my case they said i'd only get a phone, no battery or back and would have to use my own. (no issues there) but they ended sending me everything. So not going to argue with a fresh battery.
Good luck!

Ok thank you, your post was really helpful. Since i bought my atrix from bestbuy, would i contacts bestbuy, Att, or motorola for replacement/fixing?
Is this a common problem?
My headphone port has stopped working too, I was hoping that that was due to a bad flash or something.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Same here. Works from time to time. Mine is definitely a hardware problem. The headphone jack will not go far enough into the hole to make proper contact.

I had this problem and it turned out to be a small piece of lint at the bottom of the headphone jack. A little safety pin removed it and works flawless now.
OP, it is most likely a piece of lint or other debris in the hole, preventing a proper connection.
Try seeing if you can extract anything using a toothpick or something similar.
I have seen this exact scenario before.
I have the same problem but upon analysis I think that I don't have anything stuck in there.
When I peered into the socket it seemed fine, golden sides and some grey (metallic?) thing at the base.

My bad. I had an abundant account of lint. My headphones are working fine now.

Mine stopped working last week. I picked up one of those little bushy tooth floss picks, dipped it in a little rubbing alcohol and brushed away. Works perfectly now, just had debris built up on the contacts.
Hi guys,
I've got a problem with the USB port on my DHD. It charges fine - no problems there - but it refuses to transfer data! I've tried different cables, different ports on the PC, a different PC and a different OS and still the same problem. The PC(s) don't recognise anything has been plugged in and the phone doesn't ask me what type of connection I want. I've cleared the defaults and set it to 'ask every time' but still nothing. Therefore I summise that the USB port on the phone is dead (despite the fact that it transfers power just fine).
My question is; do you think it's fixable without returning to the manufacturer? It's out of warranty by a few months now and I bought it SIM free so I can't go crawling to my network with it. Do you think this is within the capabilities/resources of high street repair shops? The reason I'm asking here instead of in said shops is because I live miles away from the nearest one that I know of and don't fancy making the trip for nothing!
Basically I really, REALLY want to root my phone and start messing around with custom ROMs - but obviously I can't if I have no USB connection :'(
Thanks guys.

Have you tried cleaning the port out with something like a paperclip or a sewing needle? I had the same problem as you and after doing that it works perfectly. It just had a load of fluff from my pocket stuck in it. I went through 3 cables before I realised this :/

Yeah I tried a sewing needle and an air duster. As far as I can tell it's dust free now but still having the same problem.
Might give it another go though and see what happens.

You sure it's out of Warranty? Certainly in the UK warranty is two years and the phone was released here October 2010 thus all UK phones are still well within warranty
Use a magnifying glass or equivalent, and carefully inspect the contacts inside the connector. You might need to clean them up by scraping them down a little. It is very possible they might have some debris stuck on them. If the port is very loose, take the phone apart and using needle nose pliers, squeeze the connector housing together a little to tighten it up. Had to do this on my TP2 port after a while(mini USB) and it worked like a charm.

I asked in a rapair shop and the guy there seemed to think it was likely a problem with the traces on the charging block. Although that was just his opinion from experience - he didn't actually look at it. I declined his offer to open it up and have a gander.
I wasn't aware it was a 2 year warranty. I might send it back then.
Has anyone had any experience with HTC's service centres?
Are they likely to also flash the phone with the latest firmware whilst they're at it? AFAIK (though do correct me if I'm wrong as admittedly I haven't checked in a while) there's no known way to gain root for the latest firmware.

I've used the UK service centre last month for my proximity sensor fault they flash it with the latest firmware for your carrier I rooted after that using ace hack kit hope that helps

I assume they'd flash a Sim free model with stock manufacturer firmware? I hope so anyway.
So is the latest stock firmware rootable with aahk? Last I checked it wasn't.

I might try this before attempting the service centre then.
Did you just use a needle or did you use any kind of cleaning solution or air duster etc?

well to begin my friend bought a continuum from someone (hopes to be able to put CyanogenMod on but there isnt any available) well I ended up with it to turn it into a pmp / wifi toy. I was visiting him today and it was on my lap and as I moved it dropped on the floor. I picked it up and thought wow it shut itself off and I contiued to power it on and the screen was like a white (with specs of color) and it wouldnt boot. I was wondering if I am pretty much screwed or is there a quick fix?
There was a person once with a white screen. In forums somewhere. Search continuum threads its on of the bricked, help me threads.
He sent me a pic of his white bricked phone. Never seen anything like it. I'm not sure if txwolf1980 help unbrick him. But yeah might have also ".jarred" something loose and its a hardware issue.

That is a hardware issue. I'd very the digitizer connection came loose. As for fixing it, from what I've read, its a relatively easy process. But, I've never done it, and I'm not taking my phone apart out here on the road. You might peruse the fascinate forums to see if anyone had tried. Its samsung, so I doubt the hardware connections would be much different.
Dished out by my dumb digits
Thanks
thanks to both of you ... its hardware related not sure about repairable or just replace it .... but for now I am going to sleep on it.
Its really easy to take the continuum apart. Its 6 screws and a little bit of persuasion and it will come appart. All the connections are on the opposite side of the board from the side you look at as soon as you get the back plastic off. Be very careful because they did give you much room to move the board around. The cables are really short. Hope that helps

Hi everybody, i searched and couldn't find anybody with this problem due to impact.
Basically, my phone hit the corner of my jetski trailer, the screen exploded. I could still do the "hi galaxy" at the lock screen which i couldn't see, and get my messages and stuff, and it would say half the time, "no network connection, etc...". Well, i replaced the entire front half of the phone with a brand new one, and I can now see that the reason for that messages was due to my IMEI, amd baseband being unknown all of a sudden. What the hell? So now i have my fresh screen, and intermittent service, even after putting a new sim in.
I've never flashed it, rooted it, or anything.
Pleeeeeeease help, miss this phone so much.
Something else got fried when it hit. It would help to know what model of the s4 you have, ie us version or canadian. Since you never rooted I'm guessing you don't have a backup of the efs partition.
