I have two Tab 8.4's and 2 S5's that no longer have functional ir blasters. I haven't seen anything in the forums about this - has anyone heard? Is there a fix. No app that uses the ir blaster works on 4 different devices of mine.

Are you rooted, custom rom/kernel/, mods installed? Tried a factory reset or reflash the stock rom with Odin? I`m running CM 11 and IR is working fine.
works for me on stock
dont think it works on custom kernel

IR works with CM rom and kernel.
I am stock on both tabs and both s5s. I can't imagine it'd be 4 concurrent hardware failures. It's gotta be something Samsung pushed to me. The
The only IR app that works is Samsung's WatchOn. Peel, Smart IR, and a couple other ones no longer work.
I've been pestering Samsung about it. They had me troubleshoot one of the S5s. Troubleshooting consisted of booting into safe mode and trying the ir blaster apps there. None of them actually load in safe mode, which apparently was unexpected. Now they are "escalating" the case. I can't believe I'm the only one with this issue- 4 devices all develop the same issue at around the same time? Definitely suggests an issue on Samsung's part.
No problem here on S5 and note 10.1; the only time I had problems was when I activated ART

I have successfully beamed stuff from my Nexus 7 to my Nexus 10.
One issue I did come across is with bluetooth... I think it's a 4.2 issue. Tried to normally bluetooth something from N7 to N10 and the N10 went crazy. Came up with accept or decline, then crashes, then comes up accept or decline again and wouldn't stop doing this. I even turned off my N10 and turned it back on and it would still do it. In the end I had to turn both devices off to get it to stop. I'm not going to be using bluetooth again any time soon.
whatt??? damn maybe its my rom. did you do it in the middle of the back??

Yeah the middle. Works fine.
I beam pic from my S3 to the nexus back and forth, no problem
Same. Aloso it has a dual NFC so there is one on the top on the front. Try that one.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
thats crazy. im guessing my PacMan roms nfc isnt working or maybe its just my 10's NFC that isnt working
I am also having a lot of issues with my NFC tags.
Even when using the app TagInfo it says my tags don't have a NFC chip on it
One time I had luck and one small tag (192b) worked, but some time after that it didn't work anymore like the other tags.
Those tags used to work fine on my galaxy nexus and I loved to use them
The Nexus 10 just plays the NFC sound (up to down) and nothing happens (because it thinks that the tags don't have any usable chip on it...)
Someone else experiencing similar things?
Me too. I get the NFC sound, on either the back or front sensor, but nothing can read any of my many different NFC chips. My Galaxy Nexus reads them all fine (and writes them as well). Everything else is perfect with my N10, so I'd really like to find out it's a firmware/software problem, not a hardware problem with my particular N10.
good luck:fingers-crossed:

I was able to beam from the N10 to the S3 a pic but when I tried the other way from S3 to N10 is just beaming the App but not the picture. Any ideas?
Somebody have infos about implementing that feature to Cyanogen or other roms.
I think this is the only useful feature in touchwiz, so why not implementing that in Cyanogen for example?

Probably because it is not open source but original Samsung software.
-Edit- here is an app on Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansoft.eyespy.free&hl=nl, Nexus devices however seem not to be supported.

Smartstay ex works with Nexus 4 but breaks rear camera app. Always FC when smartstay ex is running. May be next update will fix it and will be able to use on N4 soon.
Screen Timeout is what I use and it's awesome.

There is an app for that: SCREEBL
uses phone orientantion & angle instead of front facing camera. works like a charm.

So, I know that there are various options for wireless transfer between two phones. WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, etc...
What I'm not clear on is which methods work out of the box, which methods require a third party app, and which methods are best - regardless of the first two categories.
When I say "best", I'm referring to:
1. Ability to transfer **any** type of file. Not just media or based on a fixed list of recognized file types - but file system to file system.
2. Speed (obviously)
3. Stability/reliability
To keep things simple, we can assume this is between two S4's, running CM 10.1. So, what's the layout of the land?
SuperBeam for sure. It is in the Play Store and is free, which makes it even better. I have used it to transfer apps, pictures, movies, etc. Super duper fast. The only down side is it needs to be installed on both devices. Being free, that is more of a minor inconvenience.

It looks good, although it seems to have a few problems - particularly on CM 10.
Until the next version comes out, what's the next best choice?
Ouch, that sucks. A buddy turned me on to SuperBeam and I have used nothing but that since. It just works well for me and have not used anything else. I am assuming that the camera issues on CM10 is the roadblock? if so, you can still initiate the transfers using NFC. No QR code or camera required. I am just coming up with different ideas to help out.

The camera is one. I'm also concerned about the reports that it doesn't restore settings properly when it's done. I may still give it a shot anyway, but it looks like the dev knows it needs some work, so it might be worth waiting for 3.0.
If it is any help, I have a Galaxy S4 running Infamous Alpha ROM 7.5 using the Infamous 4.6 OC kernel. I have not had one issue using the WiFi direct and it not using and resetting the WiFi back. I have used it to connect to Note II's, Droid Razr MAXX HD's, S3's, and a few other Android devices.

Good to know, thanks. I know the camera issue is specifically Cyanogen related, but I'll give this app a try and hope I don't experience any problems.
Does CM 10.1.3 support Wifi Direct? I can't seem to get that working...
Ive done some sniffing around, but i cant seem to find any solid answer.
Is there or is there not fingerprint support on cm or stock android based roms?
I dont need to set it as screen lock, i just want to use the xposed module fingerlock, if that makes any difference.

I'm about 90% sure the fingerprint reader only works on TW based roms since any others don't have the driver for it and no ones been able to decode it to implement it in aosp roms.

Well ****.
I honestly had no idea when buying that that might be an issue.
I like TW but it sucks ram like crazy.. Brand bew phone is having trouble multitasking with only a few hundred mb free of ram usually and when i close all the most free ram is 700 mb...
Well i can probably manage without the fingerprint.
Will i still be able to use the ir blaster as a remote? Or is that out too?

IR blaster works on CM.

Hi
I love the note 4, and always regretted the upgrades I got, the note 4 was my swiss army knife and the hardware features really went down year on year.
So, I'm going to ditch my Note 20 Ultra and return to the Note 4.
But, like everyone I want the Holy Grail - a fast modern ROM that also has all sensors and functions working like UV sensor, barometer and IR blaster.
I'm working long hours with the health service on Covid projects and don't have time to eat never mind wade through the ROM section.
Is there such a thing, or is there a non-rooted way to pep the device up without hammering the battery life?
I say non-rooted as I have to keep some apps that detect root and so unless there's a truly reliable method of concealing it I need to keep away from the pleasures of root.
Thanks
Joe
had the afternoon off, I can't see a single custom rom with uv sensor support. I've tried 2and a manual install of the apk to use it but it doesn't work.
is stock the only thing i can use? any debloaters that are good?
Hya Joe Bongo. I have been on the quest as well for a ROM - not a PERFECT ROM - but PERFECT FOR ME ROM. I have been messing with CrDroid and straight up Lineage 17/18.
The good news is that I use the IR blaster all the time! In fact I have kept thru TB a static copy of the PEEL remote control app but also using aSmart Remote app. I find good sucess with both roms but CrDroid is a little bit more customizable but otherwise very similar. I am runing a Sprint N910P and really the only problems I am having is SMS over LTE and FitBit sync but can't be too critical becuase I think it is a 3rd party problem more than a ROM problem.
Let me know how your search goes!

Well I've looked some more and can't see anything that will let me use the UV sensor. This may be a fool's errand living in the UK cos the weather is so rubbish, but I wanted to make sure I could use all the toys on the phone.
I've gone back to a stock BTU rom on the 910F. It's definitely slower than Lineage and the other one I tried, but the UV sensor works. On the custom ROMs I tried the 3rd party UV app by moletag but it crashed so I figured that meant thre needed to be something in the ROM to enable its use.
Really frustrating, it looks like I might need some form of stripped out stock ROM or something to achieve my goal.

May I ask what you mean by UV sensor? I wasnt thinking and thought you meant the IR blaster but I am curious what or how the UV sensor is being used.
