I want to switch to Cyanogen Mod but I really like the default Samsung camera app. Is there same way to install it onto Cyanogen? I know I can ADB push and replace but that doesn't guarantee it'll function.
Thanks in advance
there is NO way because the samsung app REQUIRES touchwiz in the framework, which CM will NEVER have.
There's no way to get it, just like the guy above me said.
The stock camera (CM7) is much faster for me, so I can deal with it, but I loved the way the Samsung camera looked. Oh well.
Is there a way to use TouchWiz launcher on CM7?

That's NEVER going to happened lol.
CM7 is full AOSP, no manufacturer skins.
Wish the sammy calendar, mms and camera were on CM7. Oh well!

This out of pure curiosity more than anything else but theoretically why can't I "install" Touchwiz? Basically what is the code of Touchwiz, where does it go and how come I couldn't just add it where it needed to be?
Obviously with my low level of expertise I doubt I'd be able to do it even if I knew how but as I said I'm just more curious now than anything else. Thanks for the replies!
i really wish samsung video player and camera can be ported to CM7, some of my videos wont even play anymore on the stock video player not even rock player can play it anymore =/

Samsung's original stock roms use 2 basically redundant framework apks, the twframework-res.apk and framework-res.apk code needs to be implemented on the both of these as well as several jar files in the system/framework folder in order for touchwiz to be implemented. Doing so bloats and slows down the phone which is why CM onlly uses 1 framework. Now it would be theoretically possible to get twiz running on CM7 but doing so would require an immense amount of coding and basically rebuilding of the CM rom from the ground up to incorporate touchwiz, something i can assure you none of the CM team will do.
Try mobo player. I was having the same issue.

It seems impossible.
Just wondering why you would bother running CM7 if you wanted TW anyway. Just to say that you're on CM7? =P
In regards to the original question, I liked the Gizmo modded camera app from the SGS Tools much better than the CM7 camera app as well. Mind you the SGS Tools camera app is still only functional on 2.2 or 2.2.1 and not 2.3.4, sadly. Functionality was better as well, but I guess you have to give up some things.
I had CM7 on my SGS when it got stolen .. I got a replacement, and to be honest the camera app is the only thing holding me back from flashing again. Standard AOSP camera app is awful by comparison. Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but I'm travelling outside the country for work at the moment, and I wanted to take a lot of pics, so I decided to keep it and just flash the SpeedMod kernel. Maybe when I get home I'll go back to CM7, or maybe just wait for Samsung to release Gingerbread..
Google announced a pure stock android version of the S4 phone. Does this mean all the Samsung features like "TV Remote", smart camera and its features, multi window, air view, air gesture, smart scroll .. etc will be completely removed in google's stock version?
Yes they will be removed. It will be pure AOSP Android which it is running. And the hardware will be the Qualcomm version very likely (i9505)
I know Samsung's software takes a lot of space and is not "beautiful", but the S4 is what it is because of all those features.. AOSP makes it faster and more reliable, I just dont think i would like to swich to a google gs4 while i already got this one
Everyone has its preferences.
For me, all the features of Samsung are completely useless.
What features will be in there is unknown at the moment.
Google could write their own remote control app.
We'll see....

But you could perhaps flash an AOSP rom and install apps that do almost exactly what the stock rom does, and enjoy the best of both. :good: Camera app is the only one I'll miss.

Nexus ROMs still utilize the device's abilities so I'd imagine the sensors will still be usable either out of the box or via Play Store or even Samsung store apps.

Not really.
The Samsung apps require Touchwiz framework which means it will have stock aosp camera, and no those modifications that are on touchwiz.

Still, the sensors will work, you bet on that, maybe via external apps. Remote control and weather measurement abilities, these are HW related stuff, and won't be rendered useless.

It's not comparable to I9500 but to the I9505 (because it has LTE).
I9505 has CM10.1 already, so yeah... Nothing special.
I9500 has Exynos which is not well documented and aosp will never run well on it.

Features like the air view, and the flip to silence or any of that.
I don't want it, but a friend of mine needs it. Also, preferably, without reducing the smoothness of vanilla.
For stock w/o root if possible but will root if needs be.
Are there apps that do this or does he have to flash something or what?
Look at Locale or Tasker in the Play Store for flip to silence. Air View will only be found in TW.

Yep. I've tried using the S-Pen on my phones and they never work. So air view would probably not work. It would probably need extensive hardware and software modding to get it to work.
Isn't air view basically just a combination of your front camera and proximity sensors?
What about the eye scrolling thing?
Or the thing where when you look away from the phone the video pauses?

a ton of custom roms have the flip to silent feature
Hey folks. Wondering if someone can chime in on the possibility of this...
I want the Camera app from the factory LG rom to work on AOSP phones. only because its HDR ability was much better than any app I have tried to fill that void since I switched to CM. Also it's Manual focus was a nice feature among many other things.
I assume it'd need LG's Framework as well to make it work, but if anyone can try to piece this together, or get me the files Id need (I'm no longer on LG's rom) Id be very grateful!

Focal is going to perform roughly the same as stock CM camera. We need the stock LG camera from the G2 as it can better interface with the hardware, not to mention has device specific tuning for the hardware. No other camera will be able to compete with the stock G2 camera.
To the request, i spent some time trying to get it to work few days ago. Not much progress, others have posted that hey manged to get the camera app to completely start up and take pictures, i have not made this much progress. Wish they would have posted theirs.
There is already a discussion about this in the Att-dev section.

Focal doesnt work for me. I'm on newest CM nightly, and pressing the shutter button in focal causes a FC every time.
As an update, I took the apks and odexs from the LG rom for LGCamera CameraTestApp, LGGallery and the framework-res from the old rom. I tried sideloading the apps with no luck, they wont even show up in my app drawer. I assume I need to install the LG framework alongside CM framework, but that's beyond me.

Amalence makes the software the G2 uses for image processing, and they also have their own Camera software. It's virtually identical to LG's stock camera app, it just has a different skin.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam
If you compare the stock to this, you'll see what I mean. It's the same camera as stock but with a different (IMO, better) skin.

Do you have a source for saying amalence is the company making LG's camera software? The program is similar yes, but not as good in my opinion. The HDR images are slower to snap and don't look as good to me. There is no "VR Panorama" or whatever LG called their photosphere mode

Note that the A_Better_Camera requires time to take 3 separate images, a good 1-1.5 seconds. The results are good tho.
I highly prefer the CM camera's HDR to A better camera, and I can't honestly tell the difference from the lg camera. The only thing missing is photosphere. I can use Focal for that, oddly enough that's the only feature that works in focal for me.

Hope I'm not the only one with this thought but coming from 6.x to 7.x I find that the new mutiwindow support is horrible.
I have turned on the settings in the development options to all of all apps but still it's like night and day vs previous mutiwindow support.
Resizing is a pain as it needs to be super specific and also depending on the apps you use they don't actually run at the same time.
For example of playing a game and then trying to access the browser the game will stop unless it's the active window.
Same for Netflix. I can't browse and use Netflix at the same time without the video stopping.
Seems the new setup unless using Google Apps like YouTube allocates the active resources on the active window.
Previously I think it simply split processes and resources so both apps could work
I would have figured Samsung would have refined if at least not kept their version
Am I the only one hating this?
Is there any way around this for now?
Anyone?
I don't make much use of this, but I think the real issue is that in Marshmallow we had Samsung's implementation of multi-window. In Nougat, Google added multi-window to Android, so I think Samsung dropped their own in favor of what's built into Android. Which simply isn't as good as what the 3rd or 4th generation of Samsung's multi-window offered. I don't think there's anything we can do about it, unfortunately.

Thanks. Unfortunate that they would simply stop with their own implementation since it was so much better and flexible vs the default one
Yes I agree that this new implementation is rubbish compared to the touchwiz one on MM.
Such a shame that we're stuck with it unless we downgrade.
