I want to switch to Cyanogen Mod but I really like the default Samsung camera app. Is there same way to install it onto Cyanogen? I know I can ADB push and replace but that doesn't guarantee it'll function.
Thanks in advance
there is NO way because the samsung app REQUIRES touchwiz in the framework, which CM will NEVER have.
There's no way to get it, just like the guy above me said.
The stock camera (CM7) is much faster for me, so I can deal with it, but I loved the way the Samsung camera looked. Oh well.
Is there a way to use TouchWiz launcher on CM7?

This out of pure curiosity more than anything else but theoretically why can't I "install" Touchwiz? Basically what is the code of Touchwiz, where does it go and how come I couldn't just add it where it needed to be?
Obviously with my low level of expertise I doubt I'd be able to do it even if I knew how but as I said I'm just more curious now than anything else. Thanks for the replies!
i really wish samsung video player and camera can be ported to CM7, some of my videos wont even play anymore on the stock video player not even rock player can play it anymore =/

Samsung's original stock roms use 2 basically redundant framework apks, the twframework-res.apk and framework-res.apk code needs to be implemented on the both of these as well as several jar files in the system/framework folder in order for touchwiz to be implemented. Doing so bloats and slows down the phone which is why CM onlly uses 1 framework. Now it would be theoretically possible to get twiz running on CM7 but doing so would require an immense amount of coding and basically rebuilding of the CM rom from the ground up to incorporate touchwiz, something i can assure you none of the CM team will do.
Try mobo player. I was having the same issue.

It seems impossible.
Just wondering why you would bother running CM7 if you wanted TW anyway. Just to say that you're on CM7? =P
In regards to the original question, I liked the Gizmo modded camera app from the SGS Tools much better than the CM7 camera app as well. Mind you the SGS Tools camera app is still only functional on 2.2 or 2.2.1 and not 2.3.4, sadly. Functionality was better as well, but I guess you have to give up some things.
I had CM7 on my SGS when it got stolen .. I got a replacement, and to be honest the camera app is the only thing holding me back from flashing again. Standard AOSP camera app is awful by comparison. Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but I'm travelling outside the country for work at the moment, and I wanted to take a lot of pics, so I decided to keep it and just flash the SpeedMod kernel. Maybe when I get home I'll go back to CM7, or maybe just wait for Samsung to release Gingerbread..

I bought this a few months back don't get me wrong its a excelebt device. But im finding it slow and anoying to the poiny i want to get rid of it, im fed up with how apps can run on there own without permission and slow the hell out of the tab and kill battery i fibd it silly how the default launcher widgets dobt fit the screen. What are you running? If stock then carrier had probably crippled it even with their junk ware. Suggest running overcome kratos, or stock non-carrier gingerbread-can find both in the dev section. They work very fast with no bad lag.

Run the ROM/Kernel from Overcome and you will have your speed back.

Or we could send around 4 big blokes with various tablet devices to show you the error of your ways....
Overcome is good, but I prefer CyanogenMod, completely sans TouchWiz. Both are great, and you should definitely switch to one of them. You will gain a lot of performance and battery life back, for sure.
Might be a rogue app. I run the 'Fast Reboot' to dump stuff before and after a game, seems to help. The 2.3.3 update made things far smoother too.

I'm running the old gingerbread prep rom that came packaged with the overcome rom. I had such great speed from this that I didn't even bother to move onto overcome.
Apart from the occasional stutter, everything is very smooth, particularly web browsing. This prep rom is just stock ginger with root, and it's almost perfect. All of the ginger builds are largely identical so I can't see how you could have ginger and bad lag unless you have an app bogging it down.
Have you tried a factory reset and started fresh?
Use Fast Reboot
its free on the market, it made my tab run whole lot faster than it was.
ofcourse after installing Kratos and overclocking to 1.3Ghz it runs a lot better, but i still use Fast Reboot. it simulates a restart without doing one, causing all processes to close and come back up.
very nice app.
you can buy the paid one for scheduling it to run at times when memory usage is too high
I dont like doing factory resets my uses the tab for them farm like money games and its anoying starting from scratch

Hello, I have been following the development of CM9 for a while now. Almost all roms can not get the camera working. I read there is a change in the framework and that is why it is now hard for older phones. But what has changed to stop the camera? Is the camera a hard device to get drivers for? Any clarity would be amazing just so I can understand the issue. Many thanks
It's only a matter of time I think before they get it sorted.
I just tried my first ICS based rom yesterday on my SGS2 and it is almost perfect, really good.
Camera works, but no video function (for me anyway!)
Exciting times.
I agree with thomss79. "Only a matter of time". Also the drivers are important. Looking through the threads on here, some drivers, and or source code, has been released for the Atrix from Nvidia and Moto. Not sure if that will help ICS, camera (and kernel) tho. Anyway, the devs on here should sort it out before too long. Thought i would be stuck on Froyo ( 2.2.2 ) forever. Unlocked and tried nearly all roms now, including early ICS
I heard drivers were an issue for CM9. I'll wait A LOT before installing ICS anyway, CM7 took a long time to get to this (awesome) point, and I will NOT switch to a less functional ROM just because it looks prettier. I'm extremely happy with CM7 for the time being.
I understand that the camera is not working on CM9 build....and that's ok for now but is there a reason why my gallery is not working?

Regarding why, as far as I know it's due to camera API changes in ICS. This causes troubles for the way cameras work earlier, and requires new driver. Again I'm not completely sure, this is just something I picked up in other threads. On a side note, the camera is mostly working in turl's new builds (and jokersax's) over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445052 as I'm sure you're aware . Hope that clears some confusion!
Issues when downgrading
Though I was just fiddling around with CM9 and Ice cream sandwich, when I downgraded back to 2.3.4(stock), the camera app refused to work. Camera app just crashes. Is there any permanent change that CM9 does to the device interface that may be causing this.
Thanks

You really just dont know what you're missing. The camera DOES work...to everyone saying it doesnt...well, thats just not 100% true. There are significant problems, some lag and delays, but it IS functional.

I flash the stock rom using fastboot, i.e. fastboot flash system system.img, so I'm assuming that would format the /system directory. Im still a noob at this so any advice would be much appreciated. Also, the camera does not work in the new cm9 beta, so I am assuming there is some sort of firmware issue with the camera.
Thanks
I would definitely try reflashing, cause the camera is working for me on Jokersax's latest build.
front camera
Also, the front camera works when I use camera 360, so it seems to be a device driver/ firmware issue. Anyone else having similar problems?
So guys I was asking myself "is it worth flashing?". Why you ask? Well because if I took a look in the development section and it doesn't look like any of the current roms out are stable and they all seem to have many know issues. So I would like to know what you have flashed and how you like the experience compares to stock rom?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have flashed a bunch of roms on this tab. Most of them are stable now. ALL of them running ics are better than the honeycomb touchwiz that comes pre installed. The only caveat I say to you, is that the camera still isn't working on the roms I've been using as my dailies. (Aokp and Nightlies) If that's a deal killer for you, then stay away from the ics builds for now. But I can tell you as someone who has a 2 year + old Droid Incredible running ics AND this tab running ics, I can never go back. Its just THAT good. Especially on this tab where it Truly shows off the big improvements on the OS.

Ah OK. (Just realised you're right)
I'm using overcome 2.3.1. It's not ics. It's pretty nice. Went from multiple daily reboots to 3 or 4days of uptime. I use it a lot for reading, browsing, netflix, remote mgmt of servers and it holds up well. I bought 3 Samsung docks and have it hooked up to my home theater for music via hdmi, on my nightstand (ditched the tv in the bedroom) and another in my office. I wouldn't have been able to keep it without a rom. Give it a shot. Take your time and read up, it's pretty simple. I'm kinda pissed they made such a great tablet and put such a horrible buggy os on it.
I saw all the comments here suggesting to throw a rom on it to improve performance but I didn't put much stock in it. It's not an exaggeration. You have to ditch the tw launcher too. I'm using Go's tablet edition. I guarantee you will not go back to stock. I chose overcome because it's really stable. No point trying to escape bugs and using a buggy rom.
Getting off my soapbox now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes that was one of my major concerns of ics. I'm running dark sides evolution 2 beta 3 on my sgs2. But when I came here to read about the 10.1 ics versions I was kind of sad. Because like it was said the 10.1 is awesome but cannot be used on stock w/o mods. I really just want to get on a stable release that doesn't have this issue where you could only charge your tab with the wall charger. I need a different kernal.

With Task v14, I feel that the Galaxy tab is vastly improved from the stock bloatware.
I don't really care about ICS on the Galaxy. Task 14 is so good, I don't see ICS as improving much. I have ICS running on HP Touchpad and Kindle Fire, right now.
it's nice, but IMHO not really worth all of the hype over an optimized GB ROM. YMMV.
Task v 14 is really great, highly recommend it over any ics roms.

my $.02: My use-case for my tablet is almost entirely at home. I have the Wi-Fi only model, so I don't do a lot of "mobile" stuff with it. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone which I generally carry everywhere.
What I thought: As a techie, I want everything to be fully working just because, and as a result I cannot accept a tablet without a working camera!
Real Life: I use my tablet for IM, web browsing, reading comics, and playing games, generally around the house or while commuting. That's actually it. Number of times I did a video chat on my tablet: 1. Number of times I actually wanted to video chat on my tablet: maybe 2. Because I work with a Galaxy Nexus all the time, having the same OS & ROM on both devices is honestly nicer / easier / more lazy-friendly. Its honestly pretty slick to have Chrome syncing across my computers, my phone, and my tablet.
I recently tried to go back to Honeycomb since I once again thought "gee maybe I should use the camera on my tablet". Honeycomb just feels like ICS with training wheels on it I really don't like it as much. This probably as much a placebo effect as anything. Also, the camera isn't as good as my Galaxy Nexus or my actual camera, and I feel like a douche holding my tablet up to take a picture. Would being able to Skype on my tablet be cool? Yes. Would I use it that often? No.
I'm going back to AOKP damnit. I can deal with a non-working camera for a while.
And GPS??? My device doesn't have mobile data, so it really doesn't matter to me that much, even though I thought it would.
Bottom Line: You can back all your stuff up, and you're not out anything, so why not try it?

-USB options, like the internet USB options in android 2.3x
-Beats Audio, maybe?
-The old music player, this one is not as easy as the one in beta 3
-Gmail update? it says everytime at opening that it hasn't been synced
-games, temple run is always buggy. Fix maybe?
-when at lockscreen, and then holding the lock button, you can still make screenshots or shutdown or phone, happend to me 2 times. fix that please

last thing you said: it has always been like that.
themes pretty much difficult and there are cyano theme you can use
they're trying, I think, to keep the rom as much similar as possible to stock/cyano ics and and to add new features when they may be useful, but not to completely change it. Beats audio: it's mostly for sense roms, you can flash a zip if you want it. they can't update gmail themselves, google should.

This is a known issue, I can't recall what causes this but it is solved by wiping the cache/gmail cache. Go to account & sync to check if the email sync is actually checked. Not AAB4's fault though.
Overall, I think a lot of things you ask for you can get it if you do some extra work instead of asking the dev to do some more work.

-games, temple run is always buggy. Fix maybe?

I dislike how most CPU governors start slow and build up after wake. If the wake speed isn't high enough moving the lock circle on the lock screen seems very laggy and not fluid.
Music player is so very easy to change. If we are talking about custom roms, you can easily delete .apk files in /system/app because you have root access. I do this to ensure only my favorite browser is always used for instance.
I wish known issues like Temple Run crashes, camera focus is off, 3g doesn't always recover after wifi signal dropped were mentioned on the 1st post as "not working". I believe that post is misleading otherwise. Perhaps his 2nd reserve post could be used for a list of "issues" to be resolved.

Which ones are you thinking of? To my knowledge, all the ICS roms released use kernels that default to the smartassV2 governor. SmartassV2 automatically hits an ideal wake frequency immediately after turning the screen on (768mhz in Andromadus). From there it will ramp up or down appropriately.

Not sure on your other points but have to agree about Apollo. Not sure how anyone with a Desire Z would prefer that over the old music player when it does so much in Portrait rather than landscape....

I suggest Google Play Music. It's much faster than the old player while maintaining the same look and feel. It also tries into Google Music, but I haven't tried that since I'm not in the USA.

Yea it's only available to networks in the US. There are tons of mirrors out there though so just sideload it onto your phone (like I do)
It will be great if you add the possibility to switch hardware keyboard language.

I actually think you already can. I believe CM added the ability, somewhat recently, in some capacity. Worth looking into..

It's not accessible via the menu which is why I couldn't refer you to something right away, I saw it committed in a patch but didn't look into it too carefully..

I have a Galaxy s4 (lte internacional) and i flashed CM last week and have been enjoyin it so far. I have only two concerns about the ROM, first is the battery life, i have found it to be somewhat worse than TW`s, how can i solve it? The camera is the biggest concern I have, i have found it to be worse, what do you guys think? is it really worse? is there a way to solve it?
Are these problems normal in CM?
Sorry for the bad english, im not from US

What version of CM are you on?
To be honest the TW camera is the only reason I still use TW based roms, I feel that it's undoubtedly better.

Same here. The keyboard with numbers on top and the camera. If these were on aosp. It would change android completely

I've just started learning php coding. In tempted to design a keyboard and camera that replicates tw with no loss of quality and keyboard thats themed to aosp but had the numbers on top.

Unfortunately no The TW camera needs the TW framework to operate...it hasn't even been successfully ported to GE roms yet.

I've never done anything with apps/porting before. But... Any idea if it would be possible to edit the tw camera enough that it still works and and has the same functions but change enough that it will work as a 3rd party app?

I think that the source code for the TW camera isn't available, so I'm not sure how one would go about this...

I haven't tried any myself, but I know a lot of people like Snap Camera...try out a few and see which one you like, most of them offer trials.
