Issues with Bell s4 SGH-I337M

Lollipop Update for SGH-I337M
Hello guys, I rooted my Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M a few weeks ago... I have android 4.4.2 and want to update to lollipop (oficial one) but when I try to use the OTA update I get the message "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"... Does anyone know when is going to be released the oficial update or where can I get it? I don't want to use custom ROMs that may not work or are not official.
Thank you!!

Look at sammobile.com. I see Verizon has it up but they're the only ones so far. The ota generally won't work if you're rooted. You could try unrooting in supersu then take the ota.
Edit, fido has it up too!

Thanks man... I already tried to do the unrooting using supers and didn't work
If some could post when the oficial firmware is released it will be very useful!!

I, CF-Auto rooted it with wrong model!!!
I made a mistake...
I downloaded the wrong Cf-Auto-root file for my device and then I flashed it with Odin: result
Phone is not bricked but when I run Root checker, I get this error message:
"Sorry, Root access is not properly installed on this device"
So what I did was I tried to cf auto root Odin with the proper model from chain fire website (sgh-i337m) and no luck, I still get
same error message from Root Checker.
Am I screwed or is there a way to revert everything back ?

Get supersu from the play store and install that. If it still doesn't work you may have to use Odin to flash the stick firmware and start over.

booted recovery mode, phone now unusable
Using CF-Auto-Root, I successfully rooted my phone updated to Android 5. Everything was running fine until I booted in Recovery mode just to look around (out of curiosity). I didn't select anything, only 'reboot'. When the boot sequence ends now, I can only see white alert boxes on a black background listing every apps that boots at startup accompanied with the phrase 'has stopped working'.

sounds as if you have an error either in the absence of a custom recovery or the kernal. Pull the battery, wait 30 seconds at least. Go into download mode, use Odin to reflash the stock Bell OC4 firmware but leave auto-boot unchecked -- wait until Odin goes green and says pass -- this can be quite a wait. Pull the battery. Restart the phone. Don't be surprised if it goes into stock recovery on first boot -- let the phone do its thing to get itself sorted. Set the phone up in stock mode first.
Then go back into Odin, flash a custom recovery and install SuperSu using a zip file flash from within that custom recovery.

I thought CF-Auto-Root was to blame but it's actually the CyanogenMod auto-installer. I thought it failed cleanly and nothing was pushed to my phone, but I was wrong. Thanks!

pit partition
I everyone, I tried to unroot my canadian s4 and now bricked it and stuck in the downloading screen. when trying odin, I get the "there is no PIT partition". How do I fix that please?

there are general instructions posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477 you will need the PIT file specific to your model of S4 and the correct firmware rather than the files listed in that guide if your model is not the 9505 i.e. if it is i337 or i337m -- make sure you download the correct PIT and firmware files for your model first then follow the instructions in that guide using the appropriate files for your phone

Actually I found a video on youtube and contacted the guy on twitter. he suggested changing out the port and cable. i also switched to a win 7 computer vs. win 8 and using official samsung usb cables and was able to unroot and also update to lollipop.

[Q] Another "phone not booting" issue

NOTE: AT&T variant. Phone is running 4.2.2 with MF3 baseband
So I'm helping a friend root his phone and run a custom ROM. The root went successfully (motochopper) and we installed SafeStrap and then we did a backup and wipe and then installed a 4.3 Google Play edition ROM (first mistake as we meant to download the 4.2 version)
I have the stock firmware zip for the phone and figured that that was the way to fix it, but I can't figure out how to get it to install. Through ADB it gives me an error after starting DAEMON. I converted the zip to a .tar and tried to use ODIN but ODIN stops working as soon as I tell it to run. I made sure I had the most current, correct drivers and am running ODIN3 v1.85. I thought maybe if I put it on the SD card I could install it though that method via the stock recovery but it says there is an invalid arguement.
What am I doing wrong?

What stock firmware zip do you have? You have to have the mf3 .tar.md5 file if you're trying to use odin
How does he have mf3 and motochopper works? It shouldn't. Also you have to have a custom recovery to flash the gpe rom and we don't. The closest thing we have is safestrap.

I'm on the SamMobile site trying to find the firmware and it says that they don't have it. I find that weird that such a popular model doesn't have the firmware needed to do this. I put in the correct model and country

Problem installing custom recovery using Odin

Hey guys, I'm pretty new here and new to rooting devices. I recently just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S 4 SGH-1337 (At&t) with the new "TowelRoot" and then using Super SU to finish the root. I has a question when it came to installing the custom recovery Philz Touch. I have the 4 most recent versions of PT and using Odin v3.09 and v3.07 I am still unable to correctly install the recovery. When I try starting the process I get a "Leave CS" in the bottom left of the Odin window, and when I start the process fails? I've noticed when I go into download mode on my S 4 the phone tells me on the the official binary and official operating system. If I am rooted should that say something else? I have checked the Root Checker app and it says I am in fact rooted.
Other solutions I've already got advice and still unable:
- I'm using my out of box charging cable.
- I am pressing start after I ad the AP in Odin.
- The phone is in Download mode.
Can anyone help me out and assist me? This is super annoying and I would love to figure it out soon. Thank you in advance!

Since towel root worked in your phone I'm assuming you're on firmware nc1. This can not have a custom recovery installed. In fact you probably erased your stock recovery trying these other ones. I suggest using odin to flash nb1 then update back to nc1 and if you want a recovery yo install another rom (only touchwiz based roms) you'll to use safestrap. That is the only option at this time.

Thanks for the response. I am on firmware NC1. After posting I have read that there is a new bootlocker (?) that was pushed on the 4.4.2 update preventing people from actually installing custom recovery and other things. There is a workaround going to an older version to then root and get a custom recovery, but I definitely don't have the knowledge of what to do.
I'm not sure what you mean by me probably erasing my stock recovery? Are you saying if I try and restore my device it will not work?

When you tried to install the custom recovery it more than likely erased your stock recovery and the only way to get it back is to flash nb1. And going to an older version is no longer possible. Once you update and the bootloader is updated you're no longer able to revert to an older bootloader. Trying to do so could brick your phone

Again, thank you for responding to me. I understand what you are saying now about me possibly deleting my stock recovery. I didn't go very far i the process and I'm fairly sure I didn't for the simple reason that it did not work. I can definitely be wrong and you are probably more right on this situation than I am.
Thank you for the heads up with the older version not possibly anymore.
Do you know any confirmed ways of rooting and flashing a custom recovery since 4.4.2? If not I guess I'm just going to wait a bit for a confirmed method.

Before proceeding check to make sure your stock recovery is still intact (power phone off, wait 10 seconds, power on while holding volume up/home button/power if you boot into recovery you're fine and can proceed with towel root (just Google it it'll come up right away) download and install the apk on your phone and it'll root your phone for you. Closest thing to custom recovery that will let you only flash touchwiz based roms.

that is the only way to obtain root currently. there is no way to root a clean install of 5.0.1. if you want root, you will have to root while on a kit kat build then update to 5.0.1

If you have the I337m then you should be able to use CF-Auto Root, though I don't know if it's been updated for lollipop on your specific variant.
For the i337m you can do this. Either use cf auto root or you can first install a custom recovery and then flash SuperSu from the recovery.

CF-Auto-Root works with the SGH-i337M (Bell) on Android 4 and 5.
Just don't go in Recovery Mode afterwards otherwise it'll break your installation and render your device unusable.

and what do you mean going into recovery mod will break my phone

I'm just warning you. I don't know why. I can't use my phone since I booted in recovery mode after running a rooted stock fw for a while. We have the same device.

[Q] Please Help! Cant Flash Recovery!

Ive been going so crazy trying for about 15 hours total now trying to root and get a custom recovery on my phone, for some reason, nothing will work. I do have alot of experience with rooting and ive done just about everything, attempting to get this phone to flash a custom recovery.
ATT SGH i337
4.4.4
KTU84P.I337UCUFNJ4
I am currently rooted, but i cannot get a custom recovery. I have just tried this method,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297033
with that tool, however after running it, it successfully flashes the recovery, then boots me into the Odin Mode Download screen with the picture of an android. Same thing with trying any other method of flashing a recovery. Can someone please tell me how to get past this, im so exhausted trying to fix this. I tried factory reseting my phone from the phones settings and even that brought me back to the download screen with a picture of an android. I cant get into any recovery at all! Stock or custom it sends me back to that screen.
How can i flash a custom recovery and get this working? Thank you guys in advance
You're on nj4. Safestrap is the only recovery you're going to be able to use. Read the stickies in the general forum

i installed the proper NJ4 safestrap apk and pressed install recovery, however it still says it is not installed "reboot to recovery" is greyed out. Upon booting into recovery, i am still stuck in Odin mode. Anyway for me to stop odin mode from continuing to come up instead of recovery?.
I would guess the system is looking for stock recovery, and it isn't there any more due to your flashing the CWM OUDHS recovery and/or TWRP. You probably need to put the stock recovery back.
I know and I've been trying to find out a way to do that. Could you help me if that's what I need to do? Once I reinstall stock recovery will safestrap work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Free mobile app
I would suggest that you flash nb1 then nb4, root and install safestrap. At this point, a clean install is your best bet. Refer to this thread in the general forum.
U can get stock recovery back by either flashing the whole stock firmware via odin or extracting the recovery image from the firmware and flashing it by its self via odin I don't know anything about safestrap as I'm on Canadian version some one else can hopfully help u out with tht

You are on NJ4 (I337UCUFNJ4). There is no flashable "whole stock firmware" for that version. There is a flashable whole stock firmware for the NJ1 version (I337UCUFNB1). Also, there is no easy way to "extract the recovery image out of the firmware and flash it by its self via odin." The reason for this is that you need a .tar archive to flash in odin, so if you extract just the recovery, you then need a Linux box, or a Linux virtual machine running on your windows pc to make the tar file from it.
This is why I suggested that you flash the NB1 full stock firmware, and then flash the upgrade to NJ4 from stock recovery, as outlined in the guide I linked.
As you asked for a little more detailed help, I'll try to walk you through following the Odin to Stock, Updating, Rooting, and Safestrap Guide.
First, read through post #1 and the FAQ in post #3. Next, you need to decide what version you want to end up with. Let's assume that you want to end with NJ4 -- KitKat 4.4.4. (If you want to end with OC3 -- Lollipop 5.0.1, then the instructions are a little different.)
In post #2, under the section titled NJ4 -- KitKat 4.4.4 expand Step 1 - Odin to stock. The files you need to download are at the top of this section. Follow the steps; they are pretty self explanatory. Part 1 installs full stock NB1, and Part 2 installs the upgrade to NJ4.
You are now on fully stock NJ4. If you want to root and install Safestrap, expand Step 2 -- Root and Install Safestrap. The files you need to download are at the top of this section. Again, the steps are pretty self explanatory.
That's it. If you want to now install custom firmware, you are ready, or you can just stay on stock if you prefer.

Yes and i did everything under the NJ4 Kitkat 4.4.4 section. I am rooted and everything worked except for safestrap. I open it and press install recovery and everytime it finishes it says "state:Not Installed". And reboot to recovery is greyed out. Upon manually rebooting into recovery mode, i am in normal stock recovery.
I cant use the selinux mode changer it says. To root i didnt use towelroot because installing the NC1 kernel disables my wifi connection, and since the phone has no service, i had to use KingO Root. I have confirmed root access using root checker. But Safestrap wont work.
What do i do? Is safestrap not working because i didnt root with towelroot? I assumed it didnt quite matter how i rooted. If it is because of towelroot, then how do i get towel root to work while on the NC1 kernel with no wifi and no cell service?
Update: I found a selinux Mode changer apk on xda and installed it. I tried it and safestrap still would not work and said "not installed". I also reflashed the NC1 Kernel and the same thing happened. I booted into recovery for confirmation.
I guess its maybe because i didnt root with towelroot? But it is impossible without phone service because flashing NC1 disables the wifi. Please reply as soon as you can
I can't help with your current issue with safestrap because I don't own this phone. I have worked on my son's S4, and a couple of others that have come through my hands. I have performed the exact process you just used with no issues.
I would suggest you post your issues in the guide thread where someone who has more experience with safestrap can help.

SAMSUNG SM-g900f (INTERNATIONAL)

Well I finally made the switch from Apple to android. I could no longer take the incompatibility with different toys at home. I used to work at RadioShack and I have rooted quite a few phones. I recently purchased a s5 international version, I need to root the phone for mirror play with my appradio. I have spent a few hours reading and trying, I took it to a droid friend of mine and he attempted with no joy. What info do you guys need from me to make thei happen. It says 5.0 (guessing lollipop)....... I tried rooting with Odin.
Thanks for any help guys
Flash TWRP then try flashing SuperSU.zip

I have spent a few hours reading and trying, I took it to a droid friend of mine and he attempted with no joy. What info do you guys need from me to make thei happen. It says 5.0 (guessing lollipop)....... I tried rooting with Odin.
Thanks for any help guys

Agree with previous poster, but you need to flash *specifically* twrp 2.8.7.0 klte......
For some reason, this version is the only one that works with some LP firmwares....
And make sure 'Reactivation Lock' is switched off before you start.

Thanks I'll try that version. I kno I've tried flashing twrp 10x. When I try to enter twrp mode it never works. It goes to the normal page. I'll do it again tonight when I get home so I can give very clear data regarding what I'm running into.
I have followed the instructions posted by others step by step and it either boots into recover mode as if twrp was never installed or freezes and goes into a boot mode flux. Wish I could just pay someone to root this phone..... I am beginning to think it can not be rooted..... Does anyone have a link for updated instructions bc the ones I'm using are from March 2015...... I am using Odin 3.09.
Did you try CF Auto Root first?
I don't see it mentioned
And try ODIN 3.10.7
He mentioned trying to root using Odin, I guess he tried CF method using the tar file.

Flashing TWRP from ODIN then SuperSU from TWRP is another way to root using ODIN
But also, some people have no clue what they are doing, and try flashing all sorts from ODIN - without CF actually mentioned, we are guessing
Even with Lollipop, you can still root your Galaxy S5 using CF Auto Root. It is flashable via Odin.
When you install custom ROMs or recovery like TWRP, make sure Reactivation Lock is disabled or else it will block any custom binary it would detect.

Download a stock firmware from sammobile.com, preferrably ANE2 KitKat build. Flash it via Odin then once the firmware works, go to Security settings then disable Reactivation Lock. You should be able to flash a custom recovery and boot to it then.
