So much is unknown about this phone - Nexus 6 General

All we have is a spec sheet. We have no idea about -
- in hand feel
- battery
- camera
- how do new apps look
- any special features L might have
- will any Moto like features work
- will it come unlocked from carriers
- is play store version same as carrier version
- does Google guarantee direct updates, even on Verizon
- can you buy from play store and activate on any carrier
- play store price
- accessories
All the discussion so far has been on price/size because thats all we know, and the above is just as critical.

Do you live under a rock?
The only unknown is how badly Verizon will butcher it...

Well, I mean, we DON'T know how battery will perform. In hand feel will be personal preference.
But yeah:
- there are camera samples out on this very forum, they aren't all that great. pretty much the same as moto x 2014 is what people have been saying (but I haven't seen the moto x 2014 camera in action myself).
- we've seen the material design a lot already.
- i could be wrong but i'm fairly certain the 2 models of the nexus 6 are confirmed (worldwide and US), so all versions should be unlocked.
- if that is correct, which it seems to be, then yes, play store version will be the same.
- also assuming that's correct then even on verizon you'll just be able to grab the ota online and flash it yourself even if verizon doesnt allow the device to grab it before hand (which I doubt they will be able to anyway)
- according to motorola the play store price will also be $649 for the 32GB version, but I hold out some hope it will be slightly lower.
I make these things sound less certain than they are because I'm overly skeptical of everything, but they're pretty much confirmed XD

The battery is going to perform based on each person's usage and installed apps.
The camera is only going to be as good as it's software optimization which has always been bad with Nexus devices.

Your question wasn't only how it looks and feels.
We know how it looks!
You tell us how it feels to you when you get it.

And none of the points in my post are known except the looks. So don't post if you don't have the answers.

This is the only guy that I have found who could answer some these questions. Look through his posts. He is a part of a test group.

Onward to Nexus 2 ((article about N1 no actual info on N2))

http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/rehashplus/post.htm?id=63019568&scid=rvhm_ms
Gen 3 (Nexus One) came out mere weeks after the Milestone, using state-of-the-art technology not proven in the market. A shock to Motorola, certainly a shock to me, and I bought the Nexus One immediately when the specs were confirmed. How did it leapfrog Motorola's efforts? Probably because whoever made the Nexus One did not need to justify anything, project profits, etc. The only thing they needed to do was to make the Nexus COOL and to make it the bee's knees.
By all estimates, the Nexus One was a failure. Just because it had small sales numbers, limited distribution by telcos. But anyone who wanted it can buy it. For most people outside of the US, it's expensive like hell because it has none of the telco subsidy bull****. But it has no locks, no telco overlays, no badly customized custom user interfaces, it's easy to root, to hack, and to make it the phone of your dreams. It's the best handset I ever owned. Ever. Speaking of today, of course.

The bolded really hit home.
I sincerely hope Google doesnt flat out give up on it. That they do have a sequel that will be available to all carriers. Nexus One pushed everything forward and back to back with the Droid legitimized Android as a premiere (and to many) THE premiere mobile OS. The amount of powerful handsets that have been dropped the last 7 months is ridiculous and only due to Android. Otherwise we'd still be stuck on Winmo 6.5 , an iPhone with no retina display or multitasking ,or a dead WebOS. Regardless of sales figures the Nexus one was the most important handset to drop this year.
Sadly because of those low sales figures Im not sure if we'll actually see a pure Google Nexus 2.
All these phones without colored trackballs have me worried too =-O.
p.s leave some comments...I tend to support bloggers/writers who can write without gross bias. This guy also happens to love N1.
Generally agree, except for the part of "By all estimates, the Nexus One was a failure". Low sales number don't equal failure. Look at PS3, they just broke even on that thing, and they sold A LOT.
Besides, google never planned to make money on phones. They are not htc. They don't make phones. They plan to make money on the OS and partnerships with manufacturers who want to run Android (+ google ads).
People forget that Nexus One, although branded as google phone, is actually an htc headset.

It didnt shake anything up.
Most people have no Fn clue wth a Nexus One is.
Sales figures were laughable.
Thats what people will measure it by.
As a piece of technology it was massive success. Considering the BRUTAL bias and flat out bogus reviews it received , the 3g, wonky soft buttons , and MT problems you'd expect it to be a total dud.It was anything but.

True, but I think we have to understand that goal was never to sell millions of Nexus Ones and make tons of money. N1 is kinda like a Android demo phone. Something that manufacturers and interested developers/users can try and see where Android is going, what it really is. That's the real goal, not to sell it as a regular money-making gizmo.
I think in that sense, N1 was a huge success. Think about it. Manuf. and developers tried it out, and loved it. Proof is that immediately manufacturers like htc, motorola and samsung (not even mentioning logitech, gm, cisco...) jumped on the bandwagon, seeing the potential in it.
I think the real hardware "money makers" were always intended to be Evo 4G, Galaxy S, some lower-end android phones that AT&T is launching.. Those are your standard gizmos whos success you can measure in sales numbers.
G1 -> Nexus One are special, their success is not to be measured in sales, but in exposure and future developments.
I have yet to handle any phone that feels as solid and expensive as my Nexus One.
I'd love to get my hands on a Nexus Two.
It doesn't even have spec rumors yet and I want it. I love the openness of it and that it's the one that gets Googles focus. Love it!
There won't be a nexus two.
Google is sitting on a pile of Nexus Ones and is trying to unload them anyway they can. It's painfully obvious retail hardware is not a business they want to further pursue.
Your best bet for another phone as open as the nexus will be the next developer phone, or something from Nokia's brand.
Google, give me a Nexus Two with the following:
4.3" Screen (720p-ish resolution)
Next-gen processor (hummingbird? or one of those duel-core cpus?)
768+ MB of RAM/ROM
Front Facing camera (VGA is fine)
8+ MP regular camera
Optical trackpad (see blackberry)
Hardware back, menu, home, search buttons
HDMI out
8GB internal storage (16 would be nice too )
Google have never actually said that the Nexus One was a failure right? They said that the Web Store is a failure as it didn't meet their expectations. The Nexus One not selling so many units is because it was only available on a failing web store. When Google announced they were closing the web store they said that Nexus One's will be sold in retail stores, they didn't say they are discontinuing the product like how Microsoft have with the Kin phones.
And Google have said that the reason the Nexus One didn't appear on Verizon and Sprint was because Google changed the sales model early on (choosing to close the web store but announcing it much later) and as the networks were going to get equivalent phones to the Nexus One, Google and the networks decided to pull out. I reckon the reason why the Nexus One was delayed so much on the Vodafone network was due to the fact that Google were changing their sales model.
However the Nexus One did achieve a goal of pushing manufactures to produce high quality phones. The Nexus One specs are now like a minimum for all future smartphones.
The nexus one was being produced at the same time as all the other HTC lineup, it's actually the lower end of HTC current snapdragon line.
Had google not bid on this specific model, we would proably be seeing this exact phone Labeled T-Mobile MyTouch HD or something without and unlockable bootloader.
do you guys honestly think google expected to sell millions of nexus one's when all they did is throw up a few ads on a few websites? they didnt do any primetime TV ads, nothing. you honestly think that google didnt do that on purpose? no way would they have expected huge sales with that kind of marketing platform (or lack thereof). they wanted a develper phone, and that's what they got. of course if they bought primetime TV space like apple does, then they would have sold a lot more. i dont see how people fail to see this logic.

They still have an investment in them, they're not going to willingly lose that money.
My comment was directed at their current strategy of selling them in "retail stores all over the place".

EXACTLY. You guys are jumping on a bandwagon of "N1 was a fail". It's completely wrong. Stop believing stuff that some trolls write on a forum.
It's extremelly shallow to think that all things that are released are released to sell as many as possible. Or that pure "items sold" would give you an idea of how successfull item was.
There are many, many cases of special edition cars, stereo systems, you name it. Some items are designed and sold for a different purpose. To increase awareness, to hit a small portion of the market. To create a sense of "rarity" or "urgency", etc etc.
Want proof? Ok. Remember the GMAIL model. First year or two you could ONLY get gmail by INVITE. If you didn't know, google wrote a book on "Virus Marketing". Creating a sense of rareness, coolness and priviledge towards a certain item. It works, they're not idiots. They are doing the same thing with N1. Just enough marketing to sell them, but not enough to sate people with the idea. Think about it.
In a way, you're holding a rare (or soon to be), barely advertised, special edition Android 2 phone. Don't complain that not everyone bought one. It was never meant to be.
Besides.. don't be naive. If google (one of biggest web advertisers in the world) would want to REALLY advertise their phone... Trust you me, they'd advertise the BEJESUS out of it. They'd sell millions worldwide. That's just not their goal.

Changing from online sales to store sales does NOT equal failed product.
Even if google indeed got dissapointed with online sale model, it doesn't mean that N1 is an epic fail, as quote from first post states.
I never said it was a failed product, they've already turned a profit on it.
Changing your primary business model shows your product wasn't a great success.

Correct but the product that wasn't a success is the Google Web Store, not the Nexus One.
The Web Store failed, the Nexus One didn't.

This is more in general, and not directed specifically at you, Sarg, but at some of the similar comments along the same lines.
I'm pretty sure Google was aware of these things prior to selling the N1:
1 - Most people in the states buy phones subsidized from the carriers
2 - Most people don't want to shell out almost $600 for a phone
3 - The economy kinda sucks
Why would they proceed, knowing the above, if they intended the N1 to be as successful as the iPhone?
Perhaps, just perhaps, Google is aware of a small but serious community of people who love technology and want the latest and greatest. Perhaps Google's goal all along was to target a select few and push the development of the OS, the apps, and the general market for Android devices.
To me, the N1 is really like phase 2 or 3 in a lengthy strategic plan that is, in all aspects, going rather well.
1 - Secure an OS (Purchase of Android)
2 - Develop and market and OS (Release of G1)
3 - Grow the base
a - Advertise Androidb - Put out more Android devicesc - Release a killer device to spur OS, app, and marketshare development4 - Drop more serious Android devices (and we're seeing a ton now)
5 - World domination
The indent feature on 3a, b, and c didn't work quite like planned, but c'est la vie. You get the idea.

I could imagine with Gingerbread coming in October, and the fact that the Dev 2 phone (myTouch) doesn't fit any of the requirements, that we'll see a pretty updated Dev 3 phone designed specifically for Gingerbread.
That's would make logical sense to me anyway.
I wish nexus one had more storage (4GB or higher) because it can't rely on memory card as it may fail. In addition, more storage can let me store more music on the phone itself and free the memory card for video.
Generally I am happy with nexus one and I think the migration from WM is a right decision.

Nexus Two *Isn't* Dead

PC Magazine: Back in January, I had this really interesting talk with Erick Tseng about the Nexus One, which was supposed to offer an alternative retail model by which Americans could pick their phone and technology and carrier independently. But that doesn't seem to have panned out.
Andy Rubin: Making unlocked phones available in the U.S. is still a possibility. Whether that's simply acquired only online or through traditional retail channels - that's what got canceled. So we have to decide how to make unlocked phones available in the U.S.

Interesting... Looks like the Nexus line of unlocked phones still has quite a bit more life to it yet. Just the online store that's dead. Google's still thinking up a storm on this one. Hmmmm
Good news that, would certainly prefer another dev phone when the N1 has reach the end of it's useful life for me (not that I am expecting that to be anytime soon).
Oh yes, the best Rubi could do, a Nex2.
I'd just be happy if they continued to offer developer phones in the same way they're currently offering the N1.
I don't see how any of this implies there will be a nexus two. We have clearly been told there will be no nexus two. There was a lot more to the nexus one than being available unlocked.

Yes, there probably won't be a "Nexus Two" literally speaking. But the spirit of the Nexus One phone, meaning a 100% unlocked, carrier-untouched phone, is definitely not dead, as implied by Andy Rubin's statements.
In other words, a phone that everyone reading this forum would be interested in for the same reason they bought a Nexus One.
Nah, I been saying it all along. Google loses a lot of money when carriers do things like install bing. Its always been about pushing ads and thats not going to change in a world where people increasingly dont turn on a computer but rather use their smartphone for things like email and other traditional pc activites. I'm sure most of you have read Erics comments on the money at stake if each android phone only generates 10 dollars in ad revenues. For those that didnt the word billions is the one you need to use to describe it. Google has a very serious and compelling interest in breaking the carrier based subbed phone business model and the N1 was only a test run. Why not shoot for the moon and hopefully have a very profitable hardware business along with your core business? My expectation is that for the next go around there will be deals with best buy, radio shack and other large brick and morters to carry the N2 by any other name in stock. According to google the single largest reason people choose not to buy an N1 was not price but rather the combination of the price without the opportunity to fondle the device before plunking down their hard earned ching. Getting them in every best buy gaurantees that fondling can be had by those who seek it. This time expect an ad campaign of droid proportions.
No I dont have an uncle high in Google corporate this is my reading of the tea leaves, fearless prediction if you will.
You're overlooking the most secret and well-kept secret of the Nexus One.
Google installed worker elves inside of it. When they're ready to push out the Nexus Two, the worker elves will get instructions OTA on how to upgrade the hardware.
Those running custom ROMs will have to flash manually.
Great find there Paul
I read the interview before and was pissed that Andy said there would be no Gizmo integration into Google Voice but you obviously looked at the positive instead
Long live the spirit of the N1!
Hope Google turns the greedy bastards of the cell phone industry on their head eventually.
Please please please bring in plain unlocked Android phone with AWS support. Look at G2 and you'll understand why.
I don't know about a Nexus Two, but I never assumed that there would never be another Dev phone, there will always be a dev phone, whether it continues the Nexus line of awesomeness is another question.
I'll take one !
Bring it !
Nexus One sized (no 4.3" tablet)
Nexus One stylish
Super LCD or Super AMOLED WITHOUT Pentile
Vertical slider keyboard
Louder rear speaker
Latest mobile phone CPU and GPU
That's my list of what an N2 should be, anyway Vertical slider is personally my favorite type of keyboard, as you can use it one-handed easily.. I actually rarely used my HW keyboards on my two previous phones besides they were side-sliders and often I'm on the move.
Off topic, but I'm more eager to see an 'unlocked' google tv, or atleast a version for a DIY HTPC.
Also is Chrome OS dead? There can only be one!!

HW keyboards are completely useless to me now as I can input text much faster with Swype. When factoring in the added bulk a keyboard adds, I'm hoping the next gen Nexus DOESN'T have one.

+1... hate added bulk of a hardware keyboard. I like my phone to be able to fit in my front pocket without people thinking I am getting an erection you know?
What makes you think anyone is looking? lol More on topic I used to love the full keyboard but frankly I do pretty well with swype and the tradeoff on bulk doesnt pencil out for me anymore. No reason they couldnt have two versions though.....
another vote for NO hardware keyboard....what a bad idea...ruins the form factor and it's not needed
I thought he meant, there will be other unlocked phones .... not necessarily from google or in the spirit of the nexus one.

Actually, the Moto Droid I handled once only seemed to be a just a little thicker than my Nexus...

I almost wish I looked at a N1 before picking up a NS

So I bought a Nexus S yesterday, earlier today I noticed a co worker of mine had a Nexus 1, I know of them, I mean I've seen them but I never actually held one; I was blown away by the build quality and the trackball is awesome as well. After playing with his phone I started hitting up craigslist to see if I could find one and was seriously considering returning my Nexus S.
I think I'm gonna keep the Nexus S after all but god damn, I'm just shocked that the Nexus S is the Nexus S, I mean, you would think that after the Nexus 1, the phone replacing it would at least have that same style of build quality. oh well, I still like the NS non the less.
I'm sure you can understand why so many of us chose not to upgrade, eh? The Nexus S is a nice handset if you didn't already have a Nexus One...it just isn't a big enough step up for us though.

Nexus s is great. You get a better touch sensor and a faster gpu.
I played with one in store. I have my N1 running the latest CM7 gingerbread. So I setup my desktop matching the NS.
The screen is a Tad nicer but overall I didn't see much to warrant my dough.

haha no sucking up here, just gotta pay respect when its due; I mean lets be honest, the Nexus S IS better than the Nexus One, even if the specs are slightly better, with its slightly better screen, higher quality screen, front facing camera, etc. etc. the only thing I feel the S falls short on is the build quality, its nothing bad but its like with the iPhone, I liked the build quality better on the first gen iphone then the 3G or 3GS.
Unless Palm announces something crazy (Palm fanboy here) I'll probably just stick with the Nexus S, I also have a Droid Pro so I think I should be set for a while.

I know it just blows my mind that th folks at Google carried around an HTC N1 for almost a year and then decided that the Nexus S made by Samsung was the way to go...it really does blow my mind every time I think about it. Who in their right mind would make that choice?? I'm still bitter about it...feel as if I was robbed out of an upgrade. Forced to make a choice of crappy build quality with better internals or stick with older internals with better build quality. I'd still like to know what asshole at Google made us face that choice.

I hadn't thought about it in awhile and it kinda hit me again there reading this thread.
I can understand wanting to spread the manufacturer love but Google should have told Samsung that if they wanted the Nexus "2", then they could have it, PROVIDED they built it nicer than their usual crap. Google should have kept a higher standard for the Nexus line and they let Samsung kinda cheapen it in my book.
It's one thing to spread the love and it's another to tell Samsung here are the internals we want and oh you can wrap those internals in whatever you want. I almost think us users are prouder of the N1 than Google, who seemed to give up on it like a step child when it didn't sell as well as they would have liked. Hell we users BEGGED Google to advertise the damn thing....but no, they run a search ad during the Super Bowl LESS THAN A MONTH after the Nexus launched...what kind of sense did that make?? Like Google needed a search ad during the Super Bowl...everyone already uses Google search for god's sake!!!
What is up with Samsung and plastic? I know that they have one phone made of metal, but plastic gets so fingerprint prone.

I think that samsung phones build quality is in general cheap, but lets be honest, they can make phones with nice specs, and then there's those qualcomm chipsets that HTC put in the their phones, they're just awful, which kinda makes you consider buying samsung phones.
This is the exact reason I'm still using my N1 - normally I upgrade as soon as the next best phone is out, but the Nexus is just perfect. The build quality is amazing compared to any samsung phones.
And seriously, I'd miss the trackball too much.
With that said, I have a Galaxy Tab - and think thats great, but I don't carry that with me every day so the cheap plastic doesnt annoy me as much

The snapdragon, even first gen, is not too shabby at all, and it beats the hummingbird in a lot of CPU tests. The advantage of hummingbird is the graphics. In fact, I think the nexus one was better at scrolling smoothly over the nexus s in most cases because graphics was not yet enabled on the S. CPU vs CPU the snapdragon seemed to out perform it imo.

Well, to be honest I never used a the nexus s, here in Brasil is too expensive to get new devices, I used only the galaxy s, which I think is basically the same device, only in a different housing, and it was pretty fast. I used a Nexus One too, but obviously the roms were different (even though both were using cooked froyo roms) and I know experience may vary, but the galaxy s seemed much faster.

What is up with Samsung and plastic? I know that they have one phone made of metal, but plastic gets so fingerprint prone.
I hope it is by Motorola, providing that they don't have a locked bootloader. They actually put dual noise canceling mics on their phone (Droid X), which is probably one of the most important thing on a smartphone.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you about that MotoNexus crap. Only US of A can be happy with Motorola customer service and update policy... Ever heared of the Milestone? Yeah, Droid with GSM... Today it can only run stock 2.1 krenel because of MotoPLCY and locked bootloader. Rest of the world is so fcuking tired of hearing their craptalk that they would never buy a Moto device again! Well, Nexus phones are not ONLY American phones.
Also I actually don't like the idea of releasing Nexus devices by different manufacturer each year.. It just doesn't make sense for me. Google is a company not different from others, they count each dollar when it comes to spending money. N1 was a good compromise between cheap and technically good, htc made it that way as they did with desire. So... What's the point? Even if Mofofaila would bulid another Nexus (NX? They seem to like that letter) what would be nest? LG? ok, and then?
P.S. If anything what i wrote is unclear, tell me. It can happen, because english is not my native langueage
EDIT: BUT I agree about those dual mics. They do make a difference for me too!
+1 for dual mics
The call sound quality on the N1 and the Droid X are what attracted me to those two phones. In my opinion, it's a MUST HAVE feature and the single biggest reason I haven't bought a Nexus S.

but remember, if Moto is making the next nexus, google will be the one controlling the software, not moto. moto shouldn't be able to lock the bootloader in the next nexus without google saying yes.

Sony Ericsson will let you unlock the bootloader on new Xperia Android phones

Sony Ericsson will let you unlock the bootloader on new Xperia Android phones -- subject to conditions:

Any news from Motorola on their promise to allow the dev community to modify their new phones or is their word as good as dirt once again?
i am buying the new Xperia play. i need that phone in my life for gaming. i am also very intrested in the arc. its sexy as hell with a bravia engine for the screen. i am impressed

you are right. he posted it in the wrong forum. but i think he posted it here for a reason. we are pissed. and Sony is doing it right. if that company which is bigger than motorolla, can understand, why moto cant ?
here's the part that i don't get. Yes it's annoying that moto is so locked down, but it's not like it was any surprise to anyone. They have a history of it, a well known history. They've been working on the droid X since it came out, with about no success, and yet everyone that bought the atrix is screaming about how it should be broken. My question is, if you really wanted a hackable phone, why did you choose this one? You could have gone with something else, even if that meant waiting for other phones to come to AT&T. i believe at&t is launching something like 22+ phones this year?

I think that some people bought the phone because Motorola said that they would provide a solution that allowed developers to access the phone (these people are the "Good Faith" purchasers). I believe that Motorola said it first on their YouTube account (after the Motorola employee responsible for replying to comments there said basically what you said above but with fewer words and in a rather rude tone) and then again on their support forums where they said that they hoped to have a solution in place before the 30-day AT&T return policy expired. Motorola may also have said something similar on their Facebook page but I'm not sure.
Other people bought the phone because they didn't understand that Motorola's encrypted bootloaders have never been broken. They are the ones that say stuff like "everything's hackable", which may actually be true but is meaningless in reality unless you also include a timeframe and I don't think that most people want to wait ten trillion years for a brute force crack of a bootloader.
I, on the other hand, decided to wait and see what Motorola would do before making a purchase and so far it's not looking good but I am still hopeful.

I guess I should add another group of people: Those who didn't understand that getting root was not the same as cracking the bootloader but heard that devs had root even before the phone was released.

this . exactly this. when Moto said they will give some access to devs. i thought they are going the HTC way and not Sony way.
now HTC went Moto Way and Sony went the HTC way.
i mean, how stupid can these companies be ? seriously ? sony released the Xperia X10. a beauitiful device and early in UK. people didnt buy it because it was locked. Sony learned from their mistake. new phones? open for you to play with.
HTC ? thery were doing fine. alot of sales. nice devices. they saw Sony failing because of their locked ****. they saw Motorolla devices are not selling very high after they locked them down " thus, sales of new the devices is much less than the droid 1 " as far as i know " i dont have data "
how hard is it to understand when a phone has no community, its a DOA phone ?

i did. my only concern is about the screen brightness, from the videos i have seen its fine. i know its not a powerful device like tegra 2. but i am in for the gaming since i am gamer " speaking of which. i know its OT but how is the 3DS ? pass till NGP ?"
i think PS emulator and N64/SNES/GEn Emulators will be amazing on this phone and i will be finally able to have all the old classics on one system + whatever new games comes out will be fine as well.
looking at tegra zone specific games, i dont have much hope to get alot of games on it. and that difference in the games isnt even big at all.
plus the phone looks sexy as hell with its curves. and the screen is really pretty. i know its an LCD but for some reason sony screens look much better than a normal LCD screen, " and if the xperia play is SLCD, then i am happy panda "

I'd wait for the NGP, mostly because of a personal distaste for the screen tech of the 3DS.
As for the Play, I'd be concerned about a lot more than just the dim display. Battery life, an outdated processor, and RAM specs that aren't even really in line with last-gen tech all make it seem like one would be better off buying a more future-ready phone that's compatible with the Android Playstation games. Especially if bought on contract -- in 2 years the Play will be 4 years outdated. I was really looking forward to a solid gaming phone, but this just doesn't seem to be it. Now by no means am I saying the Atrix is the better gaming alternative...only that the Play has some seemingly unsurpassable issues that dedicated gaming controls can't make up for. Then again...until the phone actually comes out, who knows?

the last thing i care about is ram. atrix had 1 gig ram and only 170 was free for me only most of the time. as long as its running efficient, then i could care less.
the gpu is not out dated. its same as desire hd. decent. in line with the galaxy S and nexus S. not top of the line tho like the atrix i admit.

Now that Sony Ericsson has taken a leap forward which really is a surprise considering that they have taken a tough stance on unlocking anything. This would put more pressure to Motorola if they need to get a bigger piece of the pie. For sure Motorola is surprised that Sony Ericsson took a different path.
After all, it does make sense that if you have a great piece of hardware and you let the community take a hold of it, word will spread and more consumers will take a note and purchase it.
Guaranteed that ATnT is probably disappointed with some consumers returning their Atrix. I also doubt Bell Canada is breaking open the champagne here when across the store there are more ppl lining up for the iPAD2 than for the Atrix.
The ball is in Motorola's court. Time for them to make a move and less replying on facebook.

HTC One

Anyone care to speculate if HTC is feeling pressure to put a One on the play store?
Assuming the criteria would be:
-unlocked bootloader
-Stock Android
-Small price reduction (or price match to Dev edition 650)
Personally this woul be a very very good option for a Canadian such as myself. The One is definitely my first choice but Samsung is doing such a good job at luring me in with the things I value. HTC only seems to go half way, especially since Samsung just raised the bar and went full android, so to speak.
Speculate away!

I don't think HTC feels anything like that. As many people said, S4 nexus is expensive for many people and its not like everyone wants stock android. It'll be directed to a certain group of customers.
I definitely agree that a stock S4 is for a very select group of people. I'm not sure how that is too much of a deterrent for HTC... actually I don't understand HTC's actions at all. They always go halfway, it's like the marketing/lawyering departments have the leadership by the balls... Sort of like when the wife lets you buy a new sports car but she only approves small block engines that are sporty. Not the same thing at all!!
How much does it cost HTC or Samsung to strip and maintain a phone to AOSP?
I can't imagine the HTC One with out Sense 5. It makes it for me (as well as the build etc).

I agree, I will chose Sense 5 over stock any day. Now if it was Sense 4.1 or touchwiz I can understand wanting it gone, but Sense 5 is so great IMO. I wouldn't mind the option, but things like camera (getting the image chip to work with pure android) and battery life seems to be what always keeps my HTC phone away from the pure android feel.
I have used plenty of HTC phones in the past and most of them had some form of HTC sense on them, and i have always preferred sense over stock. My last device was a nexus 4 which was pure aosp, and while it was definitely not bad, i found myself wanting sense on it all the time. I get that people have their own preferences, but htc builds their devices around sense and optimises sense to use on their hardware. I don't think HTC would release a aosp version. It would be nice if it did because we would get updates faster, but i don't see that happening anytime soon.
I read an article yesterday about some HTC Employee who tweeted something along the lines of "You can pay $649 for a cheap bit f plastic...or you could wait " Maybe HTC has something already in the works?
*EDIT* Found another article stating that HTC have denied rumours that they will be releasing a "Nexus" HTC One.

^^ This. I feel releasing an aosp SIV especially not under the Nexus moniker is nothing more then another attempt to saturate the market and artificially inflate sales numbers. I think for that tiny community who doesnt root an aosp out of the box is a viable option. Look at our community though, we have aokp, cm, pa and all that jazz. For the larger community of rooters and flashers it just seems redundant to me.

I have been using AOSP on all my devices since the very beginning, but for some reason i find myself really enjoying sense, i tried flashing CM10 but i did not like it =/ im just going to patiently wait for sense 5.1 4.2.2
I mean you could just get the dev edition and put cm10 on it, will take 5 minutes to flash

I would like to add that putting something on the play store increases online availability dramatically. It's generally difficult to buy unlocked cell phones online without paying an extra premium. Especially if you don't live in the US! Yes there are ways but the party store is very accessible and hassle free. As a Canadian this is a huge plus. Just look at how many of us are screaming to get access to a Dev edition.
I've had to spend over 100 bucks in services for the privilege of doing so and then warranty suddenly becomes a huge issue. This is a huge reason the S4 is appealing as a person who doesn't do contracts.
I didn't like AOSP on my HTC One, for some reason sense is so freakin smooth and the eco system is amazing.

I have been a nexus user for 3 years and personally prefer sense after switching to HTC one. Sense 5 is really awesome

Maybe I should give sense a try... I'm seriously hooked on AOKP though... The level of customization is superior to none! Or maybe I an missing something.
Pretty much that is my end game desire. HTC one with 64GB and AOKP ponies.
I should apologize! Apparently the xperia Z pushed to aosp long before the S4. This really make me consider HTC stepping up to the plate as a real possibility since all the kids on the block are doing it.
Throwing it into the play store might not happen though.
