Nexus phones will always get it first followed by OEM's dropping the updates to their phones. Motorola didn't mention a date for the release though but my guess is that 2nd Gen Moto G and Moto X will get it first followed by Moto G and X first gen and other Moto models

Looks no different to any current Android. Quite what is Android 5 supposed to bring to the party?

Very little then. Almost all the features appear to be already available as 3rd party apps, and only mugs who believe that Google is in it for them will use the cloud sync features!

Not to be a party pooper, but that same screen is probably a snapshot and re-sized to each phone on the page.

Yeah I saw that days ago. I just didn't want to spoil the illusion.

Not going to lie, it looks exactly the same bar a few icon changes. I don't like the icon changes either.

Surely its a render of Lollipop on a Moto g, if you see, the wallpaper is different from the one Nexus 6, 5, Htc, and S4 have in that page... So its possible it is a render or a Photoshop work from Google. But WHO CARES?? All Moto G will get Lollipop and it will look exactly like that.. Dont worry for the icons and all that things..

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about it, not bothered too much about the icons. Just annoyed that there seems to be a trend for UI changes to be worse (BBC Iplayer is a prime example and the website).

Android was in dire need of a UI overhaul. It's looked the same for years.
I suspect a lot of the negative response is just people not liking change. Like when Facebook changes and there's riots for 2 weeks then everyone gets over it, then riots when they change it again (even though 6 months ago they hated what they're changing from)

I've been using the Developer Preview on my Nexus 5 for 4 months now. Trust me when I say this: There are more changes to Lollipop than icon and minor UI changes. Android has gotten a facelift! The dialer, system menus, toast notifications, icons, status bar, notification area, recents, etc have been revamped! There are features that allow you to lock any app with a single click before you give it to your friend, child, spouse that prevents them from doing any activity other than what you handed your phone to them for. There is just a lot of features that has been added that isn't really discussed much.
Plainly put: 5.0 is as big of a change as 4.2 is from 3.0. They've kept the goodness of Kitkat but added a ton of things to make things better
I'm excited but I'm not going to commit murder for Lollipop either lol

It's not all about the visuals, you all should be looking for info about what changed "under the hood". Believe me, if half of what they say is true, you won't believe how fast your phone will get

many things "under the hood" this time...??

Android 4.3 officially announced by Google

Seemingly we will get it in a "few days"

So where is HTC and Samsung with their GE 4.3 updates? Day 1 and counting, curious if it will be days, weeks or longer.

It will probably take them at least a month (unfortunately)
The 'Very Soon' didn't really sound like 'In a couple days'. I may agree with above. About 2-4 weeks is my prediction (purely speculation)
If I bought a GE I'd almost feel like I got duped - considering the major selling point was the timely stock updates.
2-4 weeks is timely compared to how it works now.

It does suck for those who actually got fooled with the GPe devices. It SHOULDN'T take them that long as they clearly have been working on it since the leaks have surfaced. I'm just ready to laugh when we see a partially working AOSP 4.3 build up before HTC releases the official OTA.

And here I am with the Developer Edition still on 4.21! Now that's a real dupe

changed. This is my last HTC phone.

Well it only has been a couple hours since they announced it. The whole point of the GE was to get updates similar to the Nexus devices and if HTC can at least release it this week i will be happy . If not, this (sadly) is my last HTC phone as i have had several bad experiences with them already (but that is a whole different topic).
My window to return is today, so I may opt to return it, in favor of waiting to see what the Moto X announcement will be.
If that turns out to be a mediocre device then I may just opt to hop back on the One.
My biggest issue is paying $640 and not getting updates for weeks, but as already said here, it's only been a few hours lol.
4.3 doesn't sound like much of an update. A lot of little stuff, not much of which will be apparent to the user unless you let your kids use your phone all the time.
How fast this gets rolled out to the GE phones is not something to get exercised about, IMO.

To be honest i don't think the Moto X will be any better as far as updates go. It will most likely ship with 4.3, but it is also a big step back as far as specs go (according to the leaked spec sheets)

I mostly care about the performance improvements. Other than that i won't use any of the multi-user features (i think that is pretty much the only new "feature" added as everything else seems to be under the hood optimizations and/or improvements.)

I quote from the GPe web page:
Unlock the latest and greatest from Google with the best smartphone for you.
Booming audio and an awesome camera in a sleek package, now featuring the latest version of Android from Google.
The latest in Android.
The Google Play edition phones automatically receive updates of the latest Android software. Optimized for the latest apps, more storage for your content and a fast, clean user experience all come standard.
Always want the latest and greatest? Upgrade your handset with no carrier commitment or contract.
Edit: it may not be HTC/Samsung saying it directly, but it is in fact on the actual device page and it repetitively says you will have the latest and greatest updates from Google.

[Q] Non Play Edition ?

Does any one know when we will get upgrades to the LG non GPE g pad?
Or is it possible to install the GPE 4.42 upgrade on non GPE G Pad?
Thanks in advance.

I actually contacted LG regarding this the other day. They put me in contact with an 'LG g pad expert' who told me that it was unlikely that V500 would see any updates beyond 4.2.2, but that they would keep the LG G2 current (obvious). I was like, 'uhhhh, shouldn't it be easy since the gpe has the same specs and there is already 4.4 kitkat for it?'. He went on to explain to me that the OS development team responsible for the gpe was separate from the one that was responsible for the original g pad (V500) and that they (original developers) were being left out of the loop on everything regarding the new updates. The old devs were from LG and the new ones are from Google I think - I may have interpreted him incorrectly as he was difficult to understand... but I think this was the jist of what he was saying.
The upgrade to 4.4 broke my GPS completely. I did a factory reset to go back to 4.3 and then overnight it automatically updated to 4.4 again. After that the GPS works again.

I very, very much doubt LG would kill support for their only tablet (outside of the GPE) as soon as it was released. If this thing gets stuck on 4.2.2 it'll be the last LG product I ever buy. Granted, I'm on 4.4.2 thanks to developers, but still. It would be very stupid of them.
There have been some rumors on sites that it will get it this quarter. Don't know how reliable anything is and will just wait and see. If it doesn't get an update I will end up rooting and flashing but I hope it does get an update because I like the LG interface and extras.

I agree with you completely - I won't do business with them in the future either, but as I stated before, I contacted them and this is what they told me (that they prob wouldn't do updates). I think they are going to let the V500 supply dry up and only the V510 will be available from then on out. If that's the case, the user base of the V500 will be relatively small so they might not feel that its worth it to keep it updated for a small group of people.

Who have they talked to? The people who would typically answer a phone or email are unlikely to know. They will know of any potential update when or if LG is ready to release one just like anyone else. Until or if that happens, they are going to say no plans and would probably be instructed to say no plans.
Unless someone has a real inside source, I would be leery of any information coming from Joe blow at LG.
Regardless, I am sure I will be flashing it eventually anyway. I know myself too well to think I won't.

I don't know man.. I think LG could just leave it as is. Since I mean.. Blue stripes, 7 LED's on white background with low brightness.. It just seems like there's been so many issues with this tablets screen that.. Well.. Why not release something new and take care of the issues?
Hasn't LG been known for leaving ppl out of the fun? Release the phone, move on, if you know what I mean.
With that said, I dealt with the screen and I don't notice any troubles at all, but not every one feel that way. I mean.. The boxes aren't sealed in half of the stores.. Man this tablet has had a pretty poor launch from LG's standpoint.
What I don't understand is why Google took it in at all with all these screens and such. Shouldn't they be pushing for like.. REAL quality? Gah, not that it's not quality.. It's just not Nexus standard with all these things on the screen. I dunno dude. Something just tells me that this tablet isn't gonna be as huge as I expected before I got it myself. If Google starts developing on the GPE all I can hope for is that ppl find a way for us v500 ppl to port over and keep on using this beast tablet. Cause let's face it. All tablets have issues, these are just a bit more.. Visual.. But fixable/ignorable/circumstanced I'd say.
The problems with this tablet are tiny compared to most of the devices that Google have released.
Check the forums for the devices that covers the first 3 months of release.
I waited 6 months before I bought the original n7 because of all the QC issues.
And also bear in mind that the actual sales figures for Google devices is just a small drop in the Ocean, compared to the big boys.

I see your points guys. Just from having checked the earliest 3 pages on the Nexus 7 (2013) General forums I've found several reports on dead pixels and dust under the bezel/screen.
I subtract my statement. To some degree. I still stand firm by the fact that I don't understand why Google would choose a tablet that has been reported to have like.. Cohesive issues with the screen and that it is up to peoples "nit picking" if they wanna keep it or not.
One thing is to have Asus produce a tablet, test some devices and then release it and THEN find out the screens and the damn assembly of the tablets has been flawed as fck, not to mention the seemingly bad functioning android 4.3 Stock Nexus 7 ROM. - Another thing is to decide to re-release a branded 8 inch tablet as a Google device even after it has been receiver with such big variation by the masses.
With all the devices that were being swapped for new ones already, I don't see how Google would think they'd actually make a lot of money on selling this device. Wouldn't it have been more clever to wait around and see if something better came along? Of course the fact that the LG G Pad 8.3" falls in line with the low cost Google devices is of course a reason worth considering as well, in terms of branding. It just doesn't change that this tablet is unstable on the consumer market since many people thinks of the screen as the most important thing on a tablet, and I will agree with them since you're looking at it and it will show all mistakes to you at all times (when you choose to look for them.)
Isn't there a difference between creating a device and then finding the flaws after production and re-releasing a device you already knew was having issues that a big part of the community was rather unsatisfied with to begin with?
- Sorry for the long answer guys. And I agree with you on the fact that Google prolly doesn't care that much about quality control since all these issues are floating around in the Nexus forums. So, I'm sorry for the first post. This one is simply just me thinking about the last part here.
First of people on these forums myself include d are the worst nit pickers. 99% of buy public would either not notice or care of what we complain about.
GPE edition is likely due to face there is a partnership with Google and lg. The last 2 Nexus phones are made by LG.
Overall it is a good tablet. It would cost them nothing for current users to be Allowed to move the software top sane add gpe version if they decide not to continue support.
Long before then I am sure we will have a rom with the best of both

Any scope or hope we can see android L on Motorola Xoom??
Frankly, no
I can't buy anymore tablet soo I will stick with 4.4.4 and wait for ?!
does anyone know how the progess on lollipop for xoom is ?
what are the problems they are facing?
as there are other devices with tegra 2 that already have lollipop roms out
like galaxy tab 10.1 and i guess asus transformer
i seems the team eos and shishu have hit certain roadblocks
just wondering what those are...

I'd just be happy with a working link to get my Xoom rooted properly

No idea! I'm using CM11 (20141130). Still working well, but I'd also like to see the future on my Xoom. I don't know about ASUS, but the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does have an OMNI 5.1.1 that was recently released. I think that this is comparable to Lollipop 5.1.1.
I might just try to download and dissect the codes for both operating systems, and try reverse engineering. If I have some time next week I'll see if I can figure things out.

I'm really surprised at you. Schischu is a very reliable friend and developer who has always come through for us. On another thread he has said that he has most of the code done, yet not managed to get the camera working yet. There's no reason why he should lie to us, so you can do one of two or three things.
1. Wait patiently (I did this, even going so far as to buy a new Xoom about two weeks ago). By the way,I just love it. Got it up to speed with CM11 a couple of days ago. CM11 is a very good, very stable Rom.
2. Start coding for the Xoom yourself. I think that you might not be able to get up to speed so very fast as you'd need to.
3. As long as you're rich, buy another tablet and don't worry about the rest of us.
Anyway,

Anyway,

That's my opinion, if you don't like it, it's not my problem. I already use a Rom i built by myself from AOSP code and it's still on 4.1.2 but i'm liking it and still think he can get us a bit more proof than a settings display and as i write before, i saw the Samsung Tab 10.1 5.1.1 and saw the same on-screen controls and they are different than what we have on the Lollipop Source Code...

Opinions are like noses, everyone has one , but not at all of them are very pretty or handsome . You know it dawns on me that since you can write code for the xoom , then perhaps you should write the lollipop code yourself and stop complaining . I'd love to see the fruit of your efforts. No one else has come rushing onto the stage with any pronouncements of a nearly feasible lollipop Rom for the Xoom. At least Schischu is saying that he's working on it. As I said, if you're so smart, then write the code yourself and release it to us as a finished product . It would be nice to have. Again, do something, or sit it out till the next act comes on stage.
In the meantime, I'm using cyanogen mod 11.0 (20141130) , which is an android 4.4.4 clone , very full featured, and capable in the extreme.
As it is , I know the Xoom is not the fastest tablet in the world, and I know there will come a day when I'll be trading up to something different. However, at the moment , I'm very happy with my Xoom, and using it to the greatest possible extent .
I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but only concerned that in your impatience you appear to be so irritating that you may chase off the one real ray of hope we've had on the next generation of Xoom development.
By the way, I'd genuinely love to see what you can do with the lollipop code.
Blessings

Sorry dude, this is not happening... I'm not telling i'm better than Schischu, just want to see more proofs than a Settings/About Screen that can be faked with some changes on Build.prop and Settings.apk resources... i know this as my Xoom is faked as an Xperia Tablet s (SGPT12) so i can download Mortal Kombat X and play on it...
And i think anyone can use the Rom he wants, i'm still on JB 4.1.2 compiled from AOSP and happy with what my Xoom is capable to do with it... so if you are running CM 11, congratulations to you, and why you don't try and start to play with AOSP code and see what you can achieve with it...

I'm not impatient, just asking more proof that Lollipop can actually happen on Xoom, the Real Lollipop as i saw some ROMs that mimics it and just that... by the way i'n not willing to try Lollipop as i'm happy with what i have right now... maybe i port 4.2.2 AOSP to it and nothing else...

He said the Moto G was rolling out that day, and it did. That was a little more specific.

Somebody here posted a few weeks ago that he heard the Lollipop update would be coming late January. Sounds like that might be true

I hope so. LG G2 in Korea is already receiving Lollipop. Galaxy S5 in Europe as well. Probably Sony will deliver this month.
This is my first motorola phone and I bought it hoping updates would be nexus-like. I'm kind of disappointed.

That's not the main reason I bought the phone. But it was definitely one of the reasons. Looking at the droids of last year and how fast they were updated on Verizon to KitKat I expected the same. but the initial launch of Kit Kat had a lot less bugs than the initial launch of lollipop. And FYI.. The s5 update is based on 5.0 not 5.2. Which is strange.

Why would it be strange? Samsung based their OTA on the version available when they started working on it. 5.0.2 wasn't available until quite a bit later.
But 5.0.2 only in nexus, and motorola said will fix bugs in Lollipop base, so i think for motorola devices this is greatt

As did htc but there lastest version is 5.0.2
I'm thinking that the Turbo will lag somewhat behind the Maxx due to the further burden of Verizons in house testing and validation. I wouldn't think too long since the Droid is minimal in its carrier bloat but I would be surprised to see the two released at the same time. It should be remembered that this is a Moto employee and he is talking about Moto devices, not Verizon devices. The latter will come out only after Verizons own testing which is another layer on top of what exists on the Maxx, Moto X, Moto G, etc.

That is because they can't just restart OTA development every time a new build is released.
And no, HTC used 5.0.1.

Yeah, I saw that later. PocketNow originally said it was 5.0.2. But the point was, even if it's 5.0.1 the release dates are almost identical between the s5 and the M8. I guess HTC is faster at getting a build together? Or because TouchWiz is so heavily modified.
Looking at all the other oems, touchwiz, sence, lg.. They all look like the ui was just slapped on to lollipop with out adjusting the ui to reflect material design. They all look out of place and unimpressive. Which is probably why I have a droid turbo and not an s5 lol

I think a lot has to do with Samsung having such an enormous beast of an overlay, it really slows things. Lollipop also requires for everything to be compatible with ART, which means more work on the OEM's end (we can see how that can be an issue with the Turbo even now).
Then you also must account for the fact that Samsung is probably splitting resources amongst more devices to update. HTC just has a couple.
Lastly, from my rom dev days, I can honestly say that HTC has better developers than Samsung.
Motorola said to me, will comes soon, in final testing already

Will LG give us the Android M or any more update?!

Hi, i brought this device some weeks ago and i feel this is very capable device i ever see...i love LG, but i know it not famous for update theyr devices, have the G2 Mini and i see i never get Lollipop on it, (L90 have it already so, i think is a question of age of devices!) so, LG G3 are around by almost 1 year...
Google I/O is on May 28th...will be presentate the Android 6 (M&M's, Mars, Marshmallows...whatever!!) (i think they shoukd go for android 5.2/5.5 or something like that because 4.0 have so many variations of updates on same number but Lollipop have only 2 or 3 i dont know how!)
so, the SDK of Android M will be around i think November/December for the brands (LG, Sony etc...), im here to know from U guy's: You think LG will give us the Android 6 for the G3 or not?
What we can expect from the update (or not)? i know, S801 is kind older SoC, S800 too but is very capable SoC...maybe more than S810 or S808 in LG G4 but...brands have to sell thoose too!
My bet it's that we will 100% get it.

Much later than G4 and i think we will get only 1 update.....
1st let hope we get 5.1 with 4.0 UX!
long wait
I think we will get update about 2016/end
we are no more LG's flagship QQ
I don't think we will ever get android m. CM will do it for us probably.
We are getting 5.1 for sure. Lets hope it's with 4.0 interface.
I don't think LG will give us Android M quickly, same thing happened to G2. It got lollipop about a month ago.
Personally I don't really like LG's user interface so I would be OK with CM

i dont think was too later, 2/3 months yeah but more is no sense from LG, G3 is even better than G4 so...LG have to do it right in G3 and dont be stupid like he did in G2...LG have to listen theyr customers!
I dont mind about UX 4.0, i like the official on 5.0 right now, but i notice some color adjustment on icons and other elements from G4 so...if we get it too is better than nothing!
we will get 5.1 for sure and about Android M i think it will get the android M because g3 have an very good hardware specially the 3GB of ram and android always need Ram

i dont blame people for dont like LG UI but...i dont mind why?! i mean, i have Sony, Huawei and other's and i dont understand theyr UI's...so complicated, icons doesnt match with the original theme! (for saying, i sell my Z Ultra, exelent phone with exelent specs only because that ugly icon set and other crazy and doesnt match things (and now is even worst because they put the lollipop vannila style on quicksettings)! For me LG have the best and more complete icons/menu's etc i ever see and i like it a lot now, in 2012 with my LG 4X HD i dont like it on that phone, but now with my G2 Mini i have the xposed moldure called G2 Tweakbox and twerak some things in quicksettings and navbar and are perfect.
G3 with 5.0 have the best UI i ever see...but the icons on G4 is even better looking...
They will give you updates for 2 years
I hope so because Android M is potentially gonna have a "Multi-Window" feature which will probably be better/more stable than LGs laggy implementation.
