[Q] 4.2.2 Download Manager Battery Drain

I have researched this topic, and haven't found an actual match for it.
I have a Google Nexus 4. My phone is rooted, running stock ROM, and Android 4.2.2. Recently I've been having random battery drain issues. More than once I've taken my phone out to make a call and found it as warm as if I'd been streaming audio, running the GPS and navigating. On one occasion, I pulled my phone out to make a call and discovered it was already quite warm; upon rebooting it I suddenly had a several hours-old emails, a couple of texts and a voicemail from a call I never received. I use this phone at work, and if this issue is causing normal operations to fail, that is completely unacceptable.
I run my phone with minimal services; normally wifi, gps bluetooth and pretty much anything else I don't need at the moment are disabled. The only ongoing processes I have running are K-9 mail checking for email every 15 minutes; the only widget I have is for weather, which updates when I unlock my phone. Normally I get really good battery life, even during periods of heavy usage. A recent 4 hour phone conversation only dropped the charge by 25%. However, when this issue is active, the charge can drop that much in less than an hour doing nothing. If it happens when charging, the charger barely keeps up or loses ground.
I have determined that Download Manager or more likely something that's invoking it is the issue. If I manually terminate DM when I'm having this problem, my power curve returns to normal, and I'm able to recharge at a normal rate. I've never yet had this issue while DM is disabled. Disabling DM also results in the error message "Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" showing at boot and at random other times, which tends to get a bit annoying.
Google Play uses Download Manager and also starts itself periodically, so some of the error messages are likely from GP, especially at boot. However, with DM enabled and GP disabled, I still have the drain issue, so GP isn't what's causing it.
What exactly is it that is invoking Download Manager, and more importantly keeping it running full-bore for extended periods? Does anybody have a list of what processes invoke Download Manager and under what circumstances, or any idea of what might be going on? I'm hoping to identify the actual root cause of this problem and resolve it without other adverse consequences.
I have sync enabled for "backup my data", app data, calendar and contacts, and these do not appear to be affected by disabling DM since the manual sync will still work with no errors with Download Manager disabled.
I have the following processes/apps disabled, so I also think they can be ruled out:
Chrome, Currents, Gmail, Google Korean keyboard, Google Pinyin, Google Play Books, Google Play Magazines, Google Play Movies & TV, Google Play Music, Google+, iWnn IME, iWnnIME Keyboard (White), News & Weather, Picassa Uploader, Sound Search for Google Play, Tags, Talk, and Wallet.
Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
having the same issue on CM10.1 stable DM runing for a while in random way
disabled DM and getting same gapps errors.
Nobody to Answer?!?! Admins!
i also am used to engage whit DOWNLOADMANAGER service running in background taking pretty cpu and battery on both my phones this happens on boot or right after managing files(rename cut paste etc...)

android 4.2.2..
sounds like your phone is constantly downloading updates to your phone(but cant apply because of your root/modded situation). what you should do, because of your 4.2.2, is update your phone or itll keep happening. there have been a MASSIVE amount of bug fixes since 4.2.2 which you arent letting your phone get.

Are you with me?well,i dont think so bro!
phone itself and also pc companion say your device is up to date(4.1.2)
i have exprienced this on many Xperia devices i had by now ,and as you see i had explained that this usually happens just after i finish opening, modifying ,renaming and copying/moving files with any type of file manager or gallery apps and such.
i m going to get assured that the process DownloadManager has relations and interactions with MediaScanning process(at least in Xperia devices). it warms up the device and drains my battery, i have to charge my devices every 6-10 hour's.
im so obsessive about my device behavior, may somebodies else having this issue but nobody minds ever like me.
so plz be more patient reading noobies posts like me
somebody help for God sake!
i thank you in advance

My nexus is already in 4.4.4. There's no more update that can loop DM currently. Yet, after I travelled to Italy and back, battery drains irregularly. Today, I save a .mp3 file from an email from hotmail.com. the download loops for over 50 times before I reboot the phone. After restart, the loop continues. I enforced stop from DM. can we delete Download Manager and replace it by other apps?

Play Store FC's

The Play Store app started FC'ing on my S4 about a month ago or so in various contexts. I've already tried wiping its data, uninstalling updates, then reinstalling. I'm able to reproduce the following FC, so maybe if I can solve this, I'll solve the whole problem:
While showing My Apps, if I quickly switch the device on and off, Play Store becomes unresponsive. I can press the home button and get to my home screen, but the UI otherwise is frozen for about 20 seconds until Play Store dies. At the beginning of the attached logcat, it says:
Code:
Calling a method in the system process without a qualified user: android.app.ContextImpl.sendBroadcast:1337 com.android.server.am.ActivityStack.startPausingLocked:1342 com.android.server.am.ActivityStack.finishActivityLocked:5865 com.android.server.am.ActivityStack.finishActivityLocked:5779 com.android.server.am.ActivityManagerService.handleAppCrashLocked:9428
D/15:36:29.186 CrashAnrDetector(24983)
processName: com.android.vending
D/15:36:29.186 CrashAnrDetector(24983)
broadcastEvent : com.android.vending system_app_crash
V/15:36:29.186 AlarmManager(24983)
trigger ELAPSED_REALTIME_WAKEUP or RTC_WAKEUP
Does that mean something to anyone?
The app dies 12 seconds later, at the end of the logcat, but I don't know if the stuff in the middle has any bearing after that app_crash entry. Apparently, that's the 12 seconds that my phone is locked up, though it seems longer. Any suggestions?
Have you tried uninstalling and re installing Play Store to user space, without restoring its data at all?
When I had this issue, this either worked or didn't. When it didn't I couldn't find a solution except re-flash a G-apps ZIP!

Yeah, but I just tried wiping Play Store's data, reverting to factory-installed Play Store, and rebooting, and I was still able to get it to freeze, but only 1 time in about 10 tries. After Play Store updates, I'll try it again. If this is the only context where it freezes (without actually FC'ing), then that's not nearly as bad as the error where it FC's in the background and locks up my phone for 20 seconds at random times. In that case, I have to use Android Tuner's crystallize function.

[Q] Note 4 Problems

Hi everyone,
First sorry for my English.
I didn't root my Note 4 neither installed a custom rom.
About two weeks ago I got my Note 4 (SM-N910F), I was really excited but then one problem came after another...
So I first started my Note 4 and completed the first settings etc, the first day it worked very good, but on the second day it began. "Google Play Services stopped working", "com.google.process.gapps stopped working", "com.google.process.location stopped working", "Google Play Store stopped working" and so on... the same for Google Play Books,Movies etc...
The messages were poping up every seconds, sometimes I couldn't even use my Note 4 because these messages really spammed me.
After these messages showed up, everything stops working, "Whatsapp stopped working" and so on for other apps too... It's really frustrating.
Does anyone know a solution for this?
Thanks,
SahilCrazy
Hello,

These are the troubleshooting steps I would take...
1) Check for any software updates through settings. If there is any, install it.
2) Open application manager in settings and clear data for Google Play Services, then reboot device.
3) If the above doesn't work, try a factory reset. Turn off the device, then press home, volume up, and power button together. This will boot into recovery mode. Select Wipe data factory reset.
Thanks for your answers guys.
Sorry I forgot to mention that I have every time to do a factory reset and full wipes etc. After the reset it mostly works again for a day or a few hours but than it continues again.
SahilCrazy
Just use Odin and flash a new rom.
Sent from my SM-N910C using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes I already thought about that too, you have a suggestion which ROM I should install?
SahilCrazy
dont do that you will lose warranty. flashing a rom wont fix broken hardware like bad memory.
Yes, flash only stock firmware for your device.

Playstore Error, pls help

hi. i just got my NOTE 4 its model is N910F. i just made a new account on playstore and i added it and it worked just normal. after downloading 2 apps, it started giving me ERROR 491. i just searched xda and got the info where i need to remove my account and restart the device and i did it and it didnt help. the error is still there.
then i went to settings and application manager and force stop and clear cache and data or Playstore app, Play services and Framework and restarted the device and now i cant even get to the playstore. its opening but it says no connection although my phone is connected to WiFi.
can someone help me with this? i m coming back to smartphone after long time like a year and this very problem. its LITERALLY been only 1 hour i got this device. pls help thanks in advance.
That happened to me a few time when I attempted to download the free version of Hardwood Solitare. The only fix I could come up with is to kill the Play Store in the apps drawer and disable the WiFi/Mobile Data Connectivity. Then re-enable them. That worked for me.

Process System Isn't Responding

I rooted my Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 yesterday using kingoroot and all was going well. This morning I was using a root utility app to uninstall unwanted system apps. I went down the entire list removing unwanted apps (making sure not to delete any system processes or system apps, or at least I thought) and when I got to the bottom of the list to the last app I wanted removed, I hit "Reboot Now"
Unfortunately, now the phone won't boot past the red "Verizon" screen. It stays on there for about 30 seconds and then gives me the error: "Process system isn't responding. Do you want to close it? -Wait -Ok"
It doesn't matter which option I choose, the phone goes into a black screen with the top bar (battery, cell signal, time). After a minute or two, the phone reboots and goes through this same process over again.
I deleted a few samsung apps which I'm afraid one of them is causing this problem, but I honestly have no idea. I'm a total rookie at this.
Can anyone help me out? Did I delete/uninstall something important? What steps can I take to fix this?
Thank you!
Edit: Strangely enough, the phone wouldn't reboot so I removed the battery for a few minutes and tried again. The second time I did this It booted up properly. Not even sure how thats possible... Is there any way I can avoid this happening in the future?
Yes. Disable things rather than removing them. In a disabled state they do take up space in /system, but they're not running so they don't consume any resources. However, with an AT&T or Verizon device disabling apps is of limited effectiveness because the carrier apps don't like being disabled.
TL; DR: Disable first, and only delete if you can't disable.
