I have tried to get this working like on my Nexus 7 and nexus 5, when I'm in landscape volume is flipped and in portrait mode the volume is adjusted as usual.
But it doesnt work the same on nexus 10 since the volume is flipped from the start because this tablet is designed to be used in landscape mode mostly.
I know there is an option in GravityBox Xposed module that allows you to reorient the volume keys.
Tried that, but as I wrote, since the nexus 10 controls are already inverted in landscape as its designed to use mainly in landscape it screws everything up.
There is almost always an option for this is custom roms under the sound options.

Hi,
I can confirm that on CM11 you have this option and it's working .

Yeah, but I really would like to run stock Android, if it can't be fixed it's OK. Just thought anyone would be in the same situation as I am.

I have always flashed this to volume reverse. Even though older, it still seems to work even with the latest Android versions. Please note that I am using AOKP, but assume that it would work with other ROMs.

Is there a way to disable the hardware keys apart from the volume keys on the side when the phone is locked? There are some times that i find the screen on when i get it out of my pocket. Plus i turn the screen on by pressing the volume keys in order to use the physical keyboard less.
Currently I'm using the latest Hyperdroid Rom(stock 2.3.4 room. With CM7) and Widgetlock

Unfortunately, you cannot do that as this is the way Android is designed. Its standard to all android phones due to the framework itself. The only thing you might be able to do with apps like 'Widget Locker' is to restrict the the hardware buttons that can wake the phone up. This can be done by turning off 'Easy Wake Mode' in Widget Locker. For example, instead of any hardware button, you can ensure only the power button wakes the device up. You can also set the lockscreen timeout to maybe 5 secs in CM settings, so that even if the device is accidentally woken up in your pocket,it will return to standby after 5 secs. Hope this helps. But i have to say that you have a very good suggestion. It would be really great if Android, CM or any app has this feature. Maybe you might want to suggest this to the CM team?. Im sure they have the means to do it.
Is anybody else having issues with volume skip on custom ROMs? I've searched and haven't turned up anything so either the solution is well known to everyone but me, or nobody else is having the issue.
I can get volume skip working on AOKP only but when I try CM, PCF, or Liquid volume skip doesn't work right. Specifically holding volume down will stop the music and holding volume up will seemingly do nothing until I wake the phone and then I'll see the lock screen freaking out (tries to show the camera screen and clock widget screen at the same time).
I've tried changing all kinds of settings and switching kernels but nothing I've tried seems to break it on AOKP or fix it on other ROMs. By the way, I'm using Google Play Music.

Have you tried disabling the lockscreen altogether? [setting the screen lock to none under settings -> lockscreen -> screen security]
Also, I assume you have disabled/not enabled the option of allowing the volume button to wake up the screen?
Yep volume wake is disabled and I tried disabling the lockscreen. Neither option helped.

Hmm. how about using the lockscreen policy android app to disable camera and widgets access? Just to see if it has anything to do with these changes in 4.2?
Strangely this just started working with the last CM nightly. The lockscreen still freaks out sometimes, but the skip functionality actually works now.

Im trynna keep my power/volume rockers away from constantly pressing it + with the poetic case its awkward.
is there an app that lets you to turn on your screen without having to press the buttons?
For example saying "Nexus" and your screen lights up?
You mean from sleep or from power off?
pgm aka slide2wake, needs kernel support
From sleep

A different case that will turn the screen on/off when it's opened/closed?

I use "Screen Control" by MYDIGITA, which uses the N10's accelerometer to wake up the device. Just give it a shake. It is not perfect but works well enough.

I'd also look into Tasker app. For example - I'm sure you could make it wake when headphones are inserted, etc...

Last week I changed from using "Screen Control" to a free app called "Gravity Screen Off" by Plexnor, after reading an XDA review. The reason I like Gravity Screen Off more than Screen Control is that it keeps the screen from turning when reader long text as it detects slight movements on the N10. That meant I could uninstall an app I had to used with Screen Control called "KeepScreen". Simply put, Gravity Screen Off does the job of two apps and does it better.
Hi. Most of the time my phone is next to my notebook at work and I dont pick it up unless I get a call, i'm concerned about the back buttons.
Can you use the G2 in a plat surface without problems? Can you accidentally turn it off by tapping too hard? Is changing the volume a pain? Please share your experiences.
Yes, no, no. Works perfect on flat surfaces. Especially with knock feature. Volume can easily be controlled from toggles and or slider notification from status bar. After using the phone for a while, the back buttons with slider notification(not used often) feels right and makes perfect sense.
If you're gonna change the volume by pressing the back buttons, then it is a little inconvenient. But as the previous poster said, you can can change volume in the notification area. You don't need to worry about the power button, it will not be affected.
Verizon model doesn't have volume or brightness in the notification shade. So it can be a pain changing volumes with it laying down. But how often do you adjust the volume. Find a good volume and leave it.
Using it on a desk with it laying flat is awesome. Just double tap and go. Double tap off. I always turn my screen shutoff really low, like 15s.
To turn the screen off, you have to double tap the top status bar or anywhere on the home launcher. Tapping on the keyboard or browser or any other app won't turn the screen off.
I got used to it very quickly and it feels natural to have them on the back. I find it easier to slide my finger to find the volume buttons. Camera>slide down for Vol+ and Case>slide up for Vol-.
I think LG incorporated volume buttons onscreen like in a call or watching video. The whole phone software and hardware design is well thought out and executed. I've never felt inconvenienced. It seems when I need to adjust volume, it's there.

Like the OP, my phone spends most of the day next to my keyboard on my desk. It is my MP3 player and I honestly do miss the side mounted volume rocker. I've got the G2 sitting face down half the day. The sliders don't work real great at click-up-one / click-down-one volume adjustments. Shame to hide the album art and spectrum analyzer this fabulous screen can render but such is my reality.
Even in-hand the back buttons don't work right for me. I rest the phone on my pinky and don't maintain a pinch hold of the device so using the back buttons requires a rather drastic shift in grip style. Generally, I find myself using my second hand to work the buttons.
Knock-on is wonderful. So is the QuickWindow case. Between the two, I really don't have need to use the power button much.
All that said, I wouldn't trade for an S4 or N5. The battery and screen are just too good.

I rest the phone on my pinky too but not in call.
When listening to music, I have the screen off anyway.
Volume could easily be solved by having a volume slider on the lockscreen when it's playing audio.
What about a volume lockscreen widget?

Playing music and using certain other apps gives me a volume notification in the notification shade... I mostly use the stock app though, don't recall if GPMusic triggers it. Even with Bluetooth slider . Video is swipe on side for volume and brightness. Lockscreen slider would be nice, one less step to pull shade.
in a flat service I dont know, on its fine
havent seen any microkeyboard docks if there is a market for it

Yea typically whenever there is audio, there is a slider in the notification dropdown shade.
So double tap to turn screen on > slide from top = volume slider.

Yeah, even the VZW variant has the volume slider when media app is active. Too fiddly for me. I might use a virtual control if it offered a button at either end of the slider that would allow easier granular control. A numerical display would also be welcome.

Does the window case have volume controls? It ain't that bad.
Back buttons are nice cause the buttons were hard to press with a slim case.
Granted most of these are features on stock Rom. If you flashed AOSP or CM, you'd lose those nice audio controls.

I'm using the latest nightly build of Omni, and it works perfectly, when Active Display is turned off. It's a great feature, but whenever I use it, and my screen turns on due to it, the soft buttons disappear completely from the screen and won't come back before I hold the power button.
Is this a known issue?
I have the same issue. I tried immersive mode and seemed to be better. However softkeys go missing at times. Fix is to bring up the power menu like you stated.
