Is anybody else having issues with volume skip on custom ROMs? I've searched and haven't turned up anything so either the solution is well known to everyone but me, or nobody else is having the issue.
I can get volume skip working on AOKP only but when I try CM, PCF, or Liquid volume skip doesn't work right. Specifically holding volume down will stop the music and holding volume up will seemingly do nothing until I wake the phone and then I'll see the lock screen freaking out (tries to show the camera screen and clock widget screen at the same time).
I've tried changing all kinds of settings and switching kernels but nothing I've tried seems to break it on AOKP or fix it on other ROMs. By the way, I'm using Google Play Music.

Have you tried disabling the lockscreen altogether? [setting the screen lock to none under settings -> lockscreen -> screen security]
Also, I assume you have disabled/not enabled the option of allowing the volume button to wake up the screen?
Yep volume wake is disabled and I tried disabling the lockscreen. Neither option helped.

Hmm. how about using the lockscreen policy android app to disable camera and widgets access? Just to see if it has anything to do with these changes in 4.2?
Strangely this just started working with the last CM nightly. The lockscreen still freaks out sometimes, but the skip functionality actually works now.

Having issues the past couple of days, my phone is leaving silent (or vibrate only in fact) mode by itself. At first I thought the volume up key was being pressed in my pocket but I've had it sitting on a desk for an hour and it's left silent mode, so now i'm sure it's an issue with software rather than tight jeans... Anyone have any ideas?
Running VR2.4.2
Update: it's now doing it every 5 mins or so. It gives a tiny vibrate then the vibration icon disappears... Has anyone else experienced this?

What screen locker are you using?
Bad contact in the volume button?
I thought about a physical problem but i left it alone for a while after it jumped out and it didn't turn up the volume again. I'm not using any special lockscreen, i have winamp controls when winamp is on but that's it. Any other ideas? I could just reflash I guess but it's bugging me not knowing the issue

Solution for the problem
Hi,
I had the same issue with my Galaxy Nexus but i found a way to solve the problem not permit solution but by using app called " Volume Locker " which will force the device to turn the volume up once it goes silent by sudden.
I had this.Rebooted and it was fine afterwards.
CM10/SGSII International
Or maybe its a women, just wont shut up
Try using a different rom (dont restore all the apps, might be some volume control or music app doing it) , if the problem still exist then its hardware issue.
Most likely an app is causing this problem...
If you are rooted, make a nandroid, then do a full wipe.
If the bug is fixed you know an app is causing it restore the nandroid and uninstall apps one by one untill its fixed
I had the same iussue with RR 3.0.6. Maybe is related to your custom rom, try changing it.
Is there a way to disable the hardware keys apart from the volume keys on the side when the phone is locked? There are some times that i find the screen on when i get it out of my pocket. Plus i turn the screen on by pressing the volume keys in order to use the physical keyboard less.
Currently I'm using the latest Hyperdroid Rom(stock 2.3.4 room. With CM7) and Widgetlock

Unfortunately, you cannot do that as this is the way Android is designed. Its standard to all android phones due to the framework itself. The only thing you might be able to do with apps like 'Widget Locker' is to restrict the the hardware buttons that can wake the phone up. This can be done by turning off 'Easy Wake Mode' in Widget Locker. For example, instead of any hardware button, you can ensure only the power button wakes the device up. You can also set the lockscreen timeout to maybe 5 secs in CM settings, so that even if the device is accidentally woken up in your pocket,it will return to standby after 5 secs. Hope this helps. But i have to say that you have a very good suggestion. It would be really great if Android, CM or any app has this feature. Maybe you might want to suggest this to the CM team?. Im sure they have the means to do it.
Hi there so my power button has broken so with that locking and unlocking my phone has become a right pain. Ive managed to sort out the locking part i just cant seem to find a way to wake my screen up after its locked.
Ive tried widgetlocker with no success
Im running the newest version of MIUI if this helps.

Not sure about MIUI, but custom roms like CM10 and AOKP have a menu unlock function. Pressing the menu key will unlock the screen.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: I had the same problem on my old HTC Desire, but that phone had physical buttons. Not sure if it works for nexus s.
Okay thanks i might just install CM10 then

MIUI v4 has that option as well. I don't remember the exact location .. try under "Buttons" or "Developers Options" under settings.

Oh thank you so much for pointing this out All sorted now
There are also several roms that have the volume wake mod in settings, so that you can wake the screen up using the volume rocker, as long as you aren't streaming music.

you can install cm10 nightlies and use "volume rocker wake" option for turning the screen on, without power button.
Haha guys I'm pretty sure his problem is fixed. He got pointed to volume rocker wake in MIUI already.
Turn off the lock screen altogether in settings.
Press a volume key.
So I discovered this purely by accident.
I've picked up my phone at night a few times and have blasted myself in the eyes with the light of my camera. It acts light using the widget to toggle it to act like a flashlight. Thinking my phone bugging out I thought nothing about it. But after the 5th time I decided it was a built in feature.
After much trial and error, I have these results:
With your phone on and screen timed out (turned off), press volume up and power at the same time. The screen should turn on, as well as the light on your camera.
To turn off let the screen time out, or press power to turn it off. Then press volume down.
Now I do not know how it works on mine but not my wife's note 3. I'm running stock Rom rooted with no mods.
I will try and figure out how I have this working, but any insight would work too.
Does anyone else have this feature?

I know Wanam Xposed has a feature for using volume up while the screen is off to turn on the flashlight, maybe that's it.

Well we're on this topic. I'm stock rooted on mje. What's the best way for me to add the flashlight function to my phone? I miss having that feature as I've had it on the last 3 phones I've owned.

The post above yours should do the trick. If you're talking about a toggle from the notification bar, I think it is built in most custom ROMs.

Problem:
Phone in my pocket, volume down gets bumped into. The next 3 hours I won't get any notifications. This is incredibly annoying and frustrating.
How in the world can I disable volume down activating do not disturb while the screen is off?
First, the power button has to be bumped first, then the volume down button (various times). Too much bumping.
get a case

The power button does not need to be bumped.
While the phone is sleeping (screen off + short wait), press volume down either once or twice and it will go into do not disturb mode. I can also put on full volume while it's sleeping as well.
Tried what you said. Doesn't happpen to me. Using stock rom.

I restarted the phone and the issue hasn't come back yet. If/when it does I'll post again. Seems to be a weird bug

Issue has just came back. Restarting the phone makes it go away. Seems like we have found a solution! I'll keep a log of how often this happens here.

Which rom are you using? Is Double tap to Wake enabled? Are you using an app to lock the screen? Maybe that app is not locking the screen initially but displaying a black image for a short time before turning the display off.

Stock rom.
Ambient display is disabled.
No App. It did this stock out of the box
RMA would be a better option.
Problem has come back! a week delay this time
I would love an option to disable it on the phone entirely I never use it anyway and it occasionally gets turned on by mistake and I end up missing calls.
Found this in another forum - change DND priority settings to allow calls and messages from anyone. Should fix it!
