Exactly same situation, just replaced my Nexus4 by a Moto X 2014 and it is a very good smartphone.

Hmm its a great device

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, waterproof, really nice camera, microsd-slot, blazing fast cpu and really good buil-in function such as Stamina Mode.

Yes really, and I'm a Nexus fan. Great display, not to big even with 5.2 screen, amoled ( which I prefer over LCD for smartphone ), good build quality and wonderful network sensibility. Pure Android interface and Motorola software, especially active display. I have to test it more before talking battery, but for now it seems very good to me.

Go for a moto, because they have fast updates and aosp look and feel.
I'm a Brazilian without English Course, sorry and be comprehensive

2013 Moto X if you want something cheaper, Xperia Z3 Compact if you can afford it. Of course, you could always buy another Nexus 4. $220USD off eBay for a brand new one.

Yes Planterz is right. A friend which was like me with a dying nexus 4 is now with a moto x first gen. He choose this one because of the price and because he doesn't want to have a big device ( moto x is 4.7 inch ). He is very happy with it, great battery life and surprisingly fast given it spec's. He say he feel it faster than nexus 4.

Go for one+1 not expensive and great spec.

First Thanks a lot guys ... What do u think about HTC m8 ?

I think that the m8 is great or if you live in Asia you can always buy the m8 eye..
But I think that you must wait until the Nexus X aka Nexus 6 gets launched and then you can buy it so you will have a flagship phone with a medium range price and that's great. I hope I had helped you.

Moto X (2014) or HTC M8 + Play Edition ROM would be my two choices. However do not expect TOO much of an increase in functionality, in my opinion everything out right now is only incrementally better, not significantly better than the Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 still conquers any software thrown at it, the Adreno 320 is still a very powerful GPU...I would say the only areas where newer devices really trump the Nexus 4 would be camera and display.
For example the Moto X has a 5.2" 1080p AMOLED vs 4.7" 720p IPS in our Nexus. Also the camera is 13MP vs our 8MP.

More info is needed... Budget, screen/device size, and what features are most important to you would be useful, its tough to recommend something without having some idea of what you want.

If you come from a Nexus 4 you should wait for Nexus 6 I think.

Wait for the nexus 6 with Android L. It will blow all isheeps out to the water

[DISCUSSION] LG to make the next Nexus

I don't think. Google buy Motorola, so i think the next Nexus had made by Motorola.
On the road with my NexusS...
Well,
See this article

Its not going to be a moto device.
Lg gets a bad rap in the states. All they have ever really sold here is budget phones and that is what people know.
IMHO anybody that is against lg making this device based off the internals of the optimus g is out of their damn minds. Or just some brand name loyal fanboy trolls.
Sure there where always people that will that prefer amoled screen and that is legitimate.
But a nexus based of those internals is simply great IMHO. It is truly some of the best if not the best components out period. I welcome the change to making a nexus device on true bleeding edge components.
I don't wanna hear crap from OEM fanboys myself. HTC guys where not happy about Samsung doing this device. Samsung guys whine about the rumors of HTC making the next one.
The optimus g is a monster. A nexus phone based of it is great.
Also, I heard that LG makes excellent display hardware as well, so the amoled may not be sorely missed as others are wont to expect.
Posted using xda mobile app
I will buy it regardless who makes it. Ultimately all that matters is who is overseeing the development of it which will be Google.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk 2
For amoled lovers they will miss it. Some love the looks of those displays and its their preference. Also being able to adjust colors in the kernel some love. Even if another display is better in just about every way some just prefer amoled.
I am not one of them. My buddy has a HTC one x and I love that screen.
If anybody is curious about what kind you like most. Go to a sprint store and look at gnex/gs3/evo lte. Or att and one x /sg3 and compare.
More rumors flying.. Sealed phone.. That may be a complete deal breaker. I refuse to own a phone I can't replace the battery.

if this is true, it might definately be a deal breaker for alot of people
As phones become thinner it seem sealed is the trend. If the battery capacity is at least 2500mah I don't think there will be as much uproar. (edit: apparently the lg optimus g has 2100mah battery, also 32gb internal storage and no microsd.)
Despite Google bought Motorola mobile division, Motorola phones are locked down and tends the be least updated Android phones, so its a good thing it won't be Motorola branded to me.
i really don't care who makes it as long as it has a a15 series cpu 32gb of storage and if possible retina screen which is better than amoled in both batery an color

I don't see the problem with LG. I had the LG shine and it was very well built, with a metal back and high quality screen, etc. Of course this wasn't a smart phone and that phone came out ages ago. I'm curious to see what LG does with the nexus though.
I welcome them.
I honestly could care less who makes it. LG, Samsung, HTC, etc. As long as I like the look and more importantly the specs! This is what I base all my tech purchases on. Laptops, phones, everything. I buy the best that I can afford at the time or wait so I can save to get even better. It should have at least the same specs as the S3. I would of course like more but that may be asking to much. I am a Nexus buyer. I don't want an S3 because it isn't the Nexus line. I will probably get this phone since I skipped the GNex, regardless of whos name is on it.
I hope the rumors are true. I want a sony nexus so bad!! I miss my xperia
I also read somewhere that there might be more than one manufacturer for the Nexus..

This not be good. The nexus must be just one...not like 1538 Galaxy devices.
The only reason why iPhone is so popular is because is just one top device and the nexus must be just one too. Not important who make it, but if realy make more devices and worse, more manufacturer, he kill the exclusivity of that device.

Not to mention further add to the problem of fragmentation of the platform. It will be harder to push updates for more than one new Nexus, not to mention the older Nexus phones like the crespo and maguro.

Xperia Z.
All the way.
I can't speak for you, but after my bitter xperience (pun intended) with Xperia P, I'd say ANYTHING BUT the Xperia line.
I was really disappointed with Xperia P and since then I've lost interest in anything starting with the word Xperia.
Except, of course, for Xperia Play which was made by a different company - Sony Ericsson.
EDIT: Oh, and I'd defo pick either a Razr or a Nexus if given the choice.
to be honest , i'm waiting for a new phone with a gamepad ! ( i hope someday samsung do that ... ) cause xperia Z,p,s,U ... and galaxy s2 , s3... are just a phone .
i can't do anything without a dedicated gamepad ...
I'm going for the Galaxy Note III (when it will come out), such a bad-ass screen
Though I would've by far preferred an Xperia Play 2, sadly such a possibility (if it ever happens) won't be for soon.

He's on Verizon, and they don't sell Xperia phones unfortunately. He'd have to go and buy one from SE if wanted it.
I chose the Galaxy SIII, and it's pretty nice. I've heard bad things about both the Droid DNA and the Nexus 4, so I chose something else. From what I remember, they both had hardware issues. The Nexus 4's glass backing will break easily, and the DNA... I don't remember what was wrong with it.

Go with Samsung. The dev support is top notch. Plus I'm not sure about the rest of the Xperia line but flashing kernels and roms on pretty much any phone other than the Xperia Play has been so much easier since it can all be done through recovery. Keep the Play for emulators and stuff though. That gamepad is hard to give up even for a nicer screen.

I buy phones out right, and then go on a sim-only contract.
Having phones as part of the contract ends up costing a fortune in the long run.
My contract currently is 350 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. All for £7.80 a month from T-Mobile.
You'd never get anything even remotely close to that if a good phone was thrown in as well. ><
Not the xperia ion lol dont get it its so buggy jellybean should fix that hopefully

Motorola locks the bootloader on their phones, which in turn kills dev support. Seeing my friend go past 2 days without a charge on his MAXX makes me jealous though.

Sure, they release their kernel sources pretty quickly, but their dev support isn't the best, for one they still haven't given us the Exynos Sources, So CM10.1 speed isn't the best, not by a long shot, I would say Google gives the best support, end of, if you want good dev support, Nexus 4, if you want a device with almost everything thats brilliant, Galaxy S3 (Camera, Screen, size, design, etc).
Galaxy Nexus. Dev support is awesome. Razr M /HD has very little dev support.
EDIT
Sorry, forgot that they don't sell Galaxy Nexus anymore. So Galaxy S3 or wait for the S4

You have to remember that the Nexus 4 is massively subsidised by Google. Without it the Nexus 4 would probably retail for $500+.
Get the s4 with contract with att for 199 root the s4 install cyanogen mod BAM Google experience phone... Seriously though developers will make updates for the s4 easier now with the Google s4. That being said, you save more money comparing 649 for 16gb pure Google vs 199 contract s4 root with "pure" google experience

Nexus 4 vs Optimus G

Hey all,
I've recently started looking for a new phone and of course I have been looking at the Nexus 4, but another phone that crossed my mind is the Optimus G, because there's a (AOSP) ThinkingBridge rom available for it! The better things about the Optimus G are the 13 megapixel camera, 32 gb storage and a bigger screen (as there are capacitive buttons, and not the on-screen buttons which you of olcourse can disable, but I don't like that). The Nexus 4 though looks better, has bigger forum support and is cheaper (only 19 euros/ 30 dollars?, so that's no major difference). Please help me decide and tell me if there are any other phones you advise me to take a look at!
Thanks!
Me Gusta!
PS. I didn't know if I had to post this here or at the Q&A section or here, so sorry if I was wrong
Or the Oppo Find 5?
Me Gusta!
If you can live with 3G network speeds and don't get to drop your phone often, get the nexus 4. Otherwise get the optimus g or any other Qualcomm snapdragon phone. Its the Qualcomm year. Best soc, with best support. I personally like the HTC one but its pricey.
Coming from a nexus s, you must understand the advantages of nexus devices. Plus, the nexus 4 is beautiful, and fast. Its fast. Did I mention how fast it is? Only downside, you need a custom kernel to get the most out of its battery.

Live with less storadge, and buy the Nexus 4, by what I saw LG has the slowest rate of sowtware updates ever, so now you will not feel bad because it's new but in a year or two you will noitice the difference between a Nexus and others, for me if 16Gb on the Nexus S are sufficient (not impresive but sufficient) then 16Gb wil be enough on the Nexus 4 aswell, do what you want but keep in mind that lg doesent always respect it's costumers, Google does!

I am in the same boat as OP and I am inclining towards Optimus G with the hope that XDA will be my source of latest android versions. My inclination towads Optimus G is mainly because of 32GB storage and LTE+FM Radio. Only advantage of Nexus 4 is prompt updates by Google, which I hope is catered somewhat with XDA support.

Are you buying the Nexus 6?

Hello guys
So for OnePlus One users.. Are you getting the new rumored 5.9" Nexus 6? If not, what feature/specs can make you change your mind?
I currently have a 64Gb OPO. I wasn't interested, but a friend sent me an invitation and I couldn't resist. So far I'm loving the battery, cyanogen and everything in general.. But I miss wireless charging and that "Nexus-Google" feeling.
I'll be upgrading my Nexus 7 to the new one for sure, and I'm probably getting the Nexus 6 to give it a try. What about you guys?
Got the note 3. Really wanted the 4 but been abit underwhelmed by it.
So i ordered the opo gonna set that up and play with it but it's abit to small screen wise and a bit to big real estate wise i think. So will give that to my dad.
I'm really tempted by the nexus 6 and i think I'll go for that.

I think I will get Nexus 6, I always liked Motorola's build quality and antenna. If camera is same or better compare opo I'm in.

Definitely won't buy it. 5.9 is too big for one handed use.
Hell, I sold my note 3 just to buy a Oneplus One!
depends.. really like opo, would like to try N4 (used N3 b4 opo) - i guess it'll all come down to price, specs, overall design (if it feels too big or just right)
I went from the N2 to the nexus 5, and I kinda like the smaller screen now. I'm on the fence about the N6. I'm moving to Korea so I'm going to wait until I get there to replace cellular devices.

Isn't the OPO about the same size?

That's cool. I like Korea (I'm assuming it's South Korea ). You might also wanna look at some Cat6 devices like the new G3 with snapdragon 805.
BTW, why are you moving?

Nope! The note 3 is more of a square shape (wide) & flat, while the opo is a rectangle shape & curved.
BIG difference when in hand. Especially when you have a case on.

They're both rectangles, a square has equal length sides
The main differences are that the OPO has curved top and bottom, and it has smaller radius corners.

The note 3 is a half centimeter larger.
BTW we know nothing about the nexus 6... i'm kinda curious about android L and ART, but from the 2 pics that we have, it seems too big for the average usage.. i don't think that it will fit in my pocket...
Next phone i will buy is the OnePlus One 2
Think I will get the n6, having owned an n4, n5 and n10 its the only right thing to do
I got my OPO last month, so I don't think I'll by a new one so quick.
The Nexus 6 looks great but we have to wait and see what users have to say about him after some usage.

South, of course . I work for the US Govt. They're relocating me to Seoul for a few years.
The two things that may keep me from buying the N6 are the price and storage capacity. I'm very happy with the OPO, you just can't beat it at $360 with the 64GB capacity. Motorola's new phones which the N6 may be borrowing hardware from just seem pretty mediocre, particularly the cameras, and I'm also not a fan of the design in general. I may consider it if it comes with a 64GB option or has a SD card slot, but all I've been hearing is that it will only come in 16GB and 32GB and no SD card slot. I had an N5 and I've always been a fan of the Nexus line of phones, but I now see them as mediocre devices compared to the OPO, but we'll see.
Depends on price. I'm pretty happy with the OnePlus the only thing is I'm on t mobile so I'm missing that one band and is like to get that.

I have yet to he impressed with a Motorola camera. Just got the OPO and came from a find 7a. Bought it specifically to avoid the upcoming nexus.
Maybe. I got this phone from Swappa using that PayPal no pay for 6 months. So essentially this is a trial. Ill wait til the next Nexus is announced before making a decision as I haven't risked anything with this phone yet.

Confused by you question / post. The OPO is missing a Tmo band?
