As tittle said, does anybody know if Note4 is region locked in any way? Note3 was region locked and I think Samsung had to loose some sales because of that (I don't travel much outside the country and almost didn't buy Note 3 for that reason, if I was traveling more often, there is no way I would pick it up). Did they learned the lesson not to bite the hand that feeds them, or they still keep on pissing their customers away?
I have not heard anything either way.

So did I, but I don't think that works on the newest Android version, I also don't remember if you need root, if you do, the only method to root right now will trip the knox and possibly void your warranty.
I really think part of their poor sales figures is due to the stupid things they do, like region lock or knox warranty, even Apple which I dislike with passion doesn't do nonsense like that.
if your note 4 are region lock they don't provied it you will not get refunds in this wed site.

I have note 4 . sm n910f. Was locked and this how I did it http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/region-unlocked-t2969890
I have note 4 and I called for 5 minutes and it's unlocked now. One question: how about update to lollipop? Needs unlock again? Or?
100% works
I have tried this With Galaxy Note 4 purchased in Saudi Arabia and it did not work in Indonesia.
Having shipped the phone back to Saudi Arabia and calling for about 8 minuets, the Indonesian SIM worked in Roaming mode (of course).
I recommend everyone to try this solution before paying for anything to anyone.
Thanks for the tip

Edit: nvm what I just said here. Seemed that with the new android sdk they moved some files from the tools folder to platform-tools folder making fastboot not working properly, just copied all files from platform-tools to the the tools folder.

Yep! It seems like you got lucky. Yours should be unlockable.
British, carrier Vodafone UK, appears to be unlock-able; tested with t-mobile sim and accepted it fine.
Yours can be unlocked, as it responds to fastboot. Congrats

Guys how is this possible if you are all buying from carriers. Don't they simlock there phones?
I hope Rogers keeps theres unlocked.
I think they don't Sim lock some phones in some stores as they sell for both Vodafone and for example Tesco or other carriers.
i haven't had any phone from places like phones4u that has been Sim locked this is before the smartphone stuff tho.

I work in a mobile phone shop in the UK. Sometimes, the first batch of handsets we have sold are unlocked. This has happened with numerous Android devices (Desire, Desire HD are the ones I know of).
I believe this is due to networks (or carriers if you are non-UK) wanting to get the devices on shelves ASAP.
Does explain why mine didn't come with an app that every new Dutch SE phone would have. Probably a first batch thing indeed.

In many European countries, carriers are not allowed to SIM-Lock the phones unless they're sold with a pre-paid contract. If they're sold with a regular bill-pay contract, the carrier is not allowed to SIM-Lock them. This is the case in Belgium, I think the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Austria. (Altho there are some exceptions like the iPhone). Also, there are a lot of resellers like Carphone Warehouse over here that sell the phones without locks on many different networks. They are not locked because they use the same model for all their contract partners.
Generally, Sim-Locks are a lot more rare in Europe than they are in the US.
In the netherlands simlocks are quite normal. I used to have a simlocked on a phone that didn't come with a contract or anything.
In Belgium on the contrary it's illigal to have a simlock at all, and I believe the same counts for austria but I'm not sure. Belgium Iphones are always without simlock for example.
True, I live in Denmark and my phone is not SIM locked. Yet, it has locked bootloader, doesnt respond to fastboot. So, SIM Llocked is not the only factor deciding if bootloader is locked.

I got an imported i9505 in Japan the other day. I have a contract with Docomo, and had them set me up with a micro SIM card, and to switch to a Xi (LTE) plan. Unfortunately, the first day I went, the guy set me up with spmode, which puts you on an APN that filters and rejects providing network access to any non-Docomo phone. I had to go in again after I read up more, and request that they take me off of the spmode service (which provides things like a Docomo email address which I don't need), and to sign me up for Mopera (I think spmode costs 315yen/month and Mopera was like 525yen/month). Once signed up for Mopera, I could then freely connect to the open.mopera.net APN, and am able to connect to their 4g LTE Xi network.

Hi, I realize that this post is rather old, so I hope, you are still reading this.
I am interested in your experiences with your i9505 in Japan
Specifically, do you know, which LTE frequency bands are supported?
I know it says LTE 800Mhz, 850Mhz and so on, but are the docomo E-UTRA bands 1 and 19 supported? Also for UMTS?
Or do you experience reception problems where people with Japanese models have no problems?
I really tried to find this info, but nothing awailable about the specific bands. Does that mean that "of course" all bands in the 800Mhz range are supported?
This page here says, that there are hardly any base stations in the 1500Mhz band, so not having that should not be a big loss, and 700Mhz is sheduled from 2015 onwards, so no problem here either. http://www6.atwiki.jp/k-p/pages/219.html
Also, for the Japanese model, there is 1seg and NOTTV listed for features. I know neither, but it sounds like television. Do you miss that?
Do you miss Felica, or is there maybe an app for that?

1seg is the tv service in Japan. There is no FeLiCa except on the Japanese version of the phone (which lacks NFC). I am not to sure on the 800mhz bands 18 and 19 (although band 20 using roughly the same frequencies is supported). Band 1 and 3 both are supported so you can connect to DoCoMo's Xi, Softbank LTE and KDDI's AU networks on 2100mhz and emobile on 1800mhz.
That should be enough service, at least inside cities where most of the spectrum is used by bands 1 and 3.

Thanks alot for the info. Do you know anything about the legality of using the phone in japan?
I recently read a few pages where Japanese people talk about the subject of using international phones.
The argument I found goes roughly like this:
- A phone needs the approval of the japanese authorities (shown by some T like mark)
- foreign phones don't have it.
- There is provision in the law, that travellers can use their phones (temporarily) while roaming as long as they are approved by FEC or Europe or so. (the phone is taken as the unit of handset and SIM, I understand)
- However, as soon as you put a japanese SIM in there, you are not roaming anymore, and so it's illegal.
I tried reading the law in question. It says "may be illegal" but for what I know, that might just be the japanese way of saying that you won't get death sentence for doing it.
Now, I know that you can rent Japanese "traveller" SIM cards from Softbank (formerly Vodafone) but on one of these pages someone wrote, he asked Softbank about it and turned out, the guy responsible for the SIM rental program didn't know about those laws. So anyone who is bored enough could go to the police and report them any time.

There are 3 components to the NFC-A/Felica system: secure element (which is only necessary for doing secure transactions), radio hardware, and antenna.
Antenna is in the battery (shared between Felica and NFC-A)
Radio Hardware is in the phone body (shared between Felica and NFC-A)
Felica SE is in the phone body, NFC-A SE may be in the sim (in the case that a pink sim is used).
The phone without a pink sim is perfectly capable of reading and writing NFC-A tags, and reading the non-encrypted areas of biometric passports, japanese drivers licenses, and zairyu cards (all of which are NFC-A).

Can you tell me what ROM/Modem version you used on yout i9505? I have the same, but cannot connect to Docomo here in Japan.
Can anyone with experience of the Note series tell me if it's usually a hassle to Sim Unlock them? Also, is there usually much of a delay between general release of the phone and the paid unlock codes becoming available?
Due to contract complications I'll be getting the Note 4 with 1 provider and using with another from day 1 (hopefully).
Thanks!
If you're ready to pay for it, http://www.cellunlocker.net/unlock-samsung-galaxy-note-4.php
I don't know if it's up, but it will soon enough.
That is who I plan on using but one more question?
Since I preordered the Note 4 I had to get with it a new sim card and plan. I plan on being overseas for several weeks at the end of the month. I plan to cancel my
plan and simply use my current sim card on my current $30 per month plan. Now ,in order to avoid region locking they say first activate the phone in the US first. If I just pop in my current old sim card will that count as having activated the phone or do I need to put in the new sim card? When I preordered the phone the lady I Talked to charged me the full price for the phone but the $40 plan she put me on is not yet charged to me, presumably that gets activated when I activate the phone. Can I just ignore that $40 plan and go merrily along with my old plan. By the way the only reason I pre ordered the Note 4 was to get the $200 Samsung rebate deal, otherwise I would have prefered getting it in the store. Best Buy sounds like they have a better rebate deal in a way but they do not handle T Mobile pre order deals. I am glad to know the phone will be quickly unlockable when it comes out.
Bill
Found out today that the phone comes unlocked when purchased through mobiles.co.uk so that's that problem solved!
Thanks for the rellies.
I'd also like info on this. But i guess i'll have to wait until more people get the note 4. Mine comes monday. and the website mentioned above says "note 4" but then later on it refers to it as " note 3." hopefully it gets updated with in a day or two of people receiving the phone. Or other websites pop up.
Are there any new info in this?

It might be a little too late for you but I've had the worst luck with cellunlocker. I use swiftunlocks.com and they have the best customer service. They answer your emails and keep you posted unlike cellunlocker that just disappears for days when they actually say it takes 1 - 5 hours.

Yes , it should work. Check your phone package, which region it has and use simcard from that ragion.(Make factory reset first,if you did try another ragion's sim) put ragion's simcard in,Make a call , Call for 5 mins or more. It should unlocked after that.

To keep it short:
1. The international version of MT7-TL10 still does not support FDD B4, aka AWS, NA specific LTE for T-Mobile, ATT, Verizon, etc.
2. There is no release date for NA, due to CPU. Hisilicon Kirin CPU is prohibited entering the NA market.
3. The international model MT7-L09 supports AWS network.
We will have no further news about Mate 7 for NA xda members in the future. If you are looking for L09, we can bring that to NA if you are interested in.
The most accurate resource to check the compatibility here:
FCC LTE Dashboard
I just wanted to make sure I understood, so you're saying the 3Gb RAM models will not work on the AWS bands?
The MT7-L09 only seems to the 2Gb model.
@H. Clarkson
We got the international MT7-TL10 already. that comes with the identical frequency bands as that of Chinese version.
It seems that only the L09 will work in NA.

This is a special order we exclusively have from HUAWEI (it is not supposed to be sold in China). Since we are not positive how many USA and Canada xda members would order from us, we only book 5 units for the initial dispachment. The Obsidain Black unit (only one unit) has already been booked by a xda developer member here. The Moonlight Silver unit is ready to be booked. The shipment will arrive at our store on Tuesday and we can ship it on Wednesday. If you are a T-Mobile user, L09 is ready to fly! If you are a ATT user, it is fine as well, we think, since it covers AWS LTE.
Our business is based in China and therefore foreign buyers do not pay sales tax to our Government. The special price in our store is set for USA and Canada members, DHL Express included. It takes no more than 4 business days to arrive at USA.
What is the difference between L09 and L10? Thanks.

2 vs 3 GB RAM and 16 vs. 32 GB ROM. The RAM makes a difference for heavy users, and L10 will soon support two independent Android systems.
So another 5 units (all black) are arriving this Friday.
mate 7 from amazon US legit?
This 3rd party seller is selling on Amazon US and claims LTE should work on AT&T with these LTE bands:
LTE FDD Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28 (Aphase) LTE TDD Band 40 UMTS 850/900/1900/2100/AWS MHZ .
Is this legit? If phone does have these bands, does that mean it should work on Tmobile USA also?

The fact that you don't have to deal with customs and the high shipping rates is enough for me.. I ordered one today and will have it Wednesday.. If it doesn't work with at&t lte I'll send it back.. $549 flat is a chance I'll take..

Hi, getmobilephone. I made an order through your LeHarbour website, but need to cancel my order. It's not going to ship until Wednesday. Thank you.

We have refunded you the full amount.
@l81tlons If that third party seller labels the model (for instance, L09) that will clear the question you have. From what we see on their page, we guess that is L09. That is a "small family owned" (their own description) company but that worth a try if you get the Amazon protection.
We just want to mention that, if any business company is to bring over 20+ phones to USA for commercial sales, a commercial importation tax is unavoidable and that company has to voluntarily report to USA customs. At that price offered from that third party seller, we can only think the commercial importation tax is avoided by some "unconventional" means, of which we cannot do and will not do in the future. Please forgive us for the "high", or regular, price. We run legal business for over 14 years.
For ATT network, if you consider HSPA+ as a part of LTE, yes you will get it. However, it depends on the region, and in some regions, you get full LTE and in some, drop to HSPA+, which is still fast. Give that third party seller a minute, not returning the phone if you cannot receive LTE in your region. We have sort of sympathy for them.
If USA and Canada xda members have further questions, please leave your comments here and @ us. We will check and answer periodically.
Have a nice day everyone here!

Thank you. :good:
I'm planning on using this phone on Wind Mobile here in Canada (if I can decide between this and another phone).
Wind Mobile runs on UMTS IV frequency band (HSPA/HSPA+ AWS frequency 1700/2100). But if this phone runs on T-Mobile then it's guaranteed to run on Wind also.
I'm also seeing one seller on Amazon Canada but it's only for the 16GB MT7-UL00.
Will I get "4G" with any model, or is this phone bound to 3G on the AWS band? If the better model you're offering can do 4G here then I'm interested in a 32GB ROM/3GB RAM version also, but I won't be buying one for a couple weeks yet, have to sell my Note3. Cheers!

We have sold an unit to Canada, and it is guaranteed to work with LTE there.
If it is UL00, it does NOT support LTE, even 3G, in Canada. You have to buy the L09 model, L09 we repeat. You can purchase from us (readily available) or from Amazon USA, whichever you trust and/or more convenient for you.
We had the international TL10 (3/32) but it does not support AWS. Therefore, if you are to purchase a fully functional Mate 7, then L09 model is the only choice for you.
The Amazon seller posted above does list the device as the L09. I lost interest for a while because Huawei couldn't seem to get their act together and actually sell the phone. But that is a good price from that Amazon seller, so I may just pull the trigger.
I bought samsung s7 edge from UK amazon and shipped to INDIA.But the phone is region locked.

You could try to obtain a NCK for your phone, as far as I know some online services provide these (for a fee)

I don't know.
You would need to place a 5 minute call in one of the supported regions (with a sim that supports one of those regions too).
Alternatively, if you root it, you can try an app called RegionLock Away v1.3 (download on second post) - Please note that this app was developed and tested on the Note 3 and although it has been known to work on other Samsung devices, it has not been tested on the S7 Edge.
I believe the supported regions are:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Croatia, Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Serbia and Vatican City
Do anyone faced this issue before?
