Hi there, I'm new to the Galaxy S5 forum and don't actually own the device itself yet, but I'm planning on getting it in a few months so here goes my ? :
Since I've got around 300 apps on my current phone, I don't wanna download and update each apps's settings all over again when I get my new S5 and I was wondering if doing a nandroid backup of my S3 Mini containing just the "data" partition and restoring it on the S5 will work and all of my apps will be copied over with all of their settings untouched, BUT I also won't lose any of the preinstalled apps on the S5 itself?
Or maybe I can try this app and make flashable zips of my apps and then flash them on the GS5?
This has always been the main trouble I have had when switching phones before, though I never switched from Android to Android. Hope someone can shed some light on my question and make me buy the S5 sooner Good night all!!
P.S. I DON'T CARE ABOUT KNOX AND SUCH CRAP. THE FIRST DAY I GET MY PHONE IT'S GONNA BE ROOTED AND WITH TWRP INSTALLED.
Try Helium app from goggle --> „Helium - App Sync and Backup”

Will do, but will any of the methods I described work? I just don't wanna install an app if it is possible just with TWRP.
I have used titanium backup pro for 5 years and even more phones. I have never had a problem with any of the backups or restores.

+1 for Titanium backup.
Other method, google for nandroid manager (need root so).
Just copy your (previous) recovery backup on phone, and restore via nandroid manager all that you want.
Be aware of system apps not to restore of course.
Good luck

Won't this actually work just by hitting restore in TWRP and choosing only the "data" part of my backup (why an app)? Or maybe TWRP won't recognise my S3 Mini backup, because it's from another phone?

No, I don't think so.
AFAIK, restoring data will restore all data without restrictions, and it could be bad if you come from another phone or ROM.
With nandroid manager, you can choose what you want to restore (app or app+data) for user app or system app, for every app you want.
You have to copy your last backup from old phone to new one, choose it by nandroid manager then navigate for options of restore.
You can restore bluetooth-wifi pairings, sms, mms, call logs, and apps (app or app+data).
Google for a tuto on "how to", here's an exemple http://www.informationlord.com/how-to-restore-nandroid-backup-without-cwm/.
Good luck

I think that choosing Advanced Restore in TWRP settings gets you to this window and then you choose what to restore. It's the same with backing up, you choose backup and then select with "x" the partitions you wanna backup. I just didn't know if restoring just "data" will break my phone, but now I know it won't, because when the phone is new there aren't going to be any apps installed in the "data" partition (all are pre-installed in "system"). So I'll just have to go to TWRP, choose advanced restore and only select "data" with "x", then swipe to restore. If something goes wrong I can always go back to recovery and wipe "data" (I'll still have all of my system apps) or even flash a stock ROM with Odin

My S5 arrives next week I'm gonna use this app, because I don't want to restore all of my apps (gonna flash Alliance 5.6 so.. xD). Will report if it works, as promised
A word of caution.......
Your new S5 will be preinstalled with KK.
If your old phone has a different version of Android, be VERY cautious about installing app data.....There is a very good chance that doing so will cause instability and force closes of your apps.......
Restoring the apps themselves this way shouldn't cause any issue......you'll just see a message that says something like "android is upgrading.......1 of xx apps" before your phone starts.....but as I said, data *may* prove to be a whole other issue.......

Is there any chance to make fonts bigger? It's very difficult to read and too bat the big X5's screen to don't be used.
So with all the improvements what differences can we see in the real usage?

Very good work Geno! But is it supposed to look like this after a normal backup?
What's the difference between this and Perfect Recovery 4.0.0.5?
The backups that are produced by both recoveries are compatible?
it worked well ,excellent work and save the real vol button's using time

Clockwork does restore contacts, settings, sms, etc, in short, it makes a snapshot of your phone in any given time, and then, when you restore, your phone returns exactly how it was before. If contacts, settings and other stuff isn't being restored in your phone, when you use clockwork, then you're doing something wrong for sure...

HOW it's even possible to do something wrong if all you have to do to backup and restore-is click on 1 menu item in restore menu? STrange but for me it only restored apps, that's it no settings nothing.
Maybe it's a stupid question but anyway... I wonder where is a location of backup witch is made in CMW-based Recovery 4.0.1.5?
Because I am making a lot of backup's and upgrades these days so I'll have to clean up it some how.
Hi i have a question. Is there a way to perform complete system backup BEFORE rooting my phone. ...that i can have total system backup like the mobile came with? tnx for answers...
I can't remember for sure, as I've only ever seen it a couple of times, but I think you can backup and restore from the original recovery mode, just like in CWM recovery.
Turn the phone off and then press and hold volume up, home and power. Keep them held till the menu appears. If you can backup and restore from that menu then that's what you're looking for. If you can't then you're probably not gonna get anywhere until you get firmware with CWM flashed. Despite what other people will no doubt say, Titanium Backup will not backup and restore your whole ROM the way it currently is. It's perfect for apps and associated data, but not whole system backups.

yeah im not sure...i will try. But to have CWM you must have root...so again is rooted and not original...
you can't, all you can do is note the exact rom you are presently using and download it in case you need to go back.
When the phone is rooted and a custom recovery is installed, then you would have the ability to back-up your phone
Just root, install cwm and make a backup although the backup will have root you can just remove it if you ever need to restore the back up

Bout to get my nexus 4, will be dropped off by UPS tomorow. And i have a few questions, if anyone will be kind enough to answer.
Would it be a smart idea to unlock the bootloader and root it with TWRP recovery like the second i take it out of the box so that way i dont have to back anything up?
And then, when i decide to switch to a non stock ROM i will just need Titanium backup to backup my stuff and then im good to go?
Also, one more question, since nexus's dont have SD cards, wont my titanium backups get wiped when i flash a rom?
Thanks
1) Yes it would probably be a good idea to unlock and root right away. That's what I done with my Nexus 7. I didn't install recovery though because I wasn't interested in custom ROMs. If you're going to be flashing things right away then yes install the recovery aswell.
2) Titanium Backup will do that perfectly for you but you could always just make the backup through recovery. As you said you'll be using TWRP it means you can restore data separately from a backup anyway.
3) You don't need to worry about backups being wiped because they're stored in the internal SD. It's essentially just space to make sure important things can still be safe even if you factory reset.
Hope that helps

Btw I would recommend Helium instead of Titanium Backup for backing up your stuff. Works much more efficiently, at least for me. Helium backs up everything, apps and app data, launcher, WiFi settings, user dictionary, launcher setup, and all your SMS data. I really like it and I've fully replaced Titanium Backup with it.

After you root & unlock the device I strongly suggest you play around with the phone for a few days and see how battery is and its performance as well. After those few days if you want you could just install any rom or kernel you want. You'll thank me later. Lol

I just got my Nexus 4 today, and I flashed CM 10.2 on it. So I transfer all of my backups from the SD card of my Galaxy S4(yes, I'm switching from an S4 for the full Nexus experience). I go in Titanium to restore my apps, but it just gets stuck restoring the first app and does nothing at all. I've tried creating a .zip of the apps, but the restore of them fails. Anyone know how I can fix this?

If you have backed your apps from the S4 and trying to restore them on Nexus 4 it won't restore as S4 is tochwiz and they have different frameworks.. In this case you will have to manually install the apps.
Or there might be ROOT issues, did you flash SuperSu v1.51??
Enable the option for root = app+adb
NOob ans, have checked the box to install unknown sources in settings??
Try going into tibu's preferences and look for an option that says backup folder location go into that and at the top of the window you'll see a detect button, press that and you see two options to look for backup location one should say "SD card" and the other "whole device" press either and the location you should select when two options come up is pick the pathway that has "legacy" in it when you get back to first window then select "use this folder" at the bottom and you should be back in business. Hope this helps.

Looks to be similar to my problem.
I'm on some unofficial CM10.2 and it has superuser integrated, so there's neither Superuser nor SuperSU app.
First I tried to restore backups I had on my Desire HD which was running CM10.1 - this failed horribly and resulted in every restored app crashing before even starting.
I thought there could be some problems restoring apps from another device but I've read it here: it shouldn't.
Even worse: backups that I make now on Nexus 4 result in the same disaster: after restoring data the app refuses to work, it just crashes over and over again. I do have SuperSU as flashable zip on my Nexus 4, but for this ROM I have not flashed it since there was superuser integrated :/
Should I better change the ROM? I don't even know where I found this unofficial CM10.2
And while we're at it: I've seen some "radios" for Nexus 4 and I suppose mine is still the one that came with JOP40C - is it necessary to flash a newer one? So far I haven't noticed any misbehaviour.
And to let it all out: on this unofficial CM10.2 I tried to change the "Minimum CPU frequence" because it seemed to me that 1026MHz is a little bit high for minimum. However, I change it and as soon as I leave the menu and return to it, the frequencies and the governor as well are the same as before.
What to do?

Latest superSU is 1.60 http://download.chainfire.eu/350/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.60.zip. User apps and data should easily be restored with TB. Maybe try to change the backup location to /storage/emulated//legacy/TitaniumBackup.
Any one have any suggestions on doing backups on the phone? I had titanium backup as a root option, but I do not know of anything for non rooted phones. Thoughts?

Does it do a full backup? And to where, PC? The only reason I'm thinking of installing TWRP is to allow system/data full backup, in case boot failures happen (like it occasionally did w/ my previous N4). Hope there's a way w/ stock.
Helium backup used to do a full backup without root but it hasn't been updated in a couple of years now.

Can it do a backup to PC, aside from to SD Card? Currently have no need for a new SD Card, and my existing lacks space.
Saw an app SynciOS but haven't tried it yet.
I used helium for backing up and restoring data. It works. For some reason it did not restore the apk's which you can restore from smart switch or google, or just manually. Then Helium can restore the data after the app is installed.
Without root there is NO option to backup app data as titanium does. Helium only backups the data of a FEW apps, but even then it doesnt work 100%
sadly smart switch doesnt backup app data
so if you want to 100% backup all of ur app data, ur gonna need to root and install titanium

You need to download smartswitch app for your PC as well as the Samsung usb drivers I believe as a prerequisite.
You're basically going to use the PC version , not the phone version to backup to PC.
