I'm starting this thread because it's obvious these problems exist, but they don't seem to have been addressed, or at least not in depth.
I upgraded to the Alltel 3.35.671.9 Rom, and have regretted it ever since.
Problems so far:
1. Phone locks for no reason. At first I had not set a password at all, but still got locked out. Removing the battery got around this. So I set a password and phone still locks randomly for no reason. Now the password I set worked for the first 2-3 times, but today it did not work, and i was forced to remove the battery again.
2. Memory Leak coming from nowhere. Occasionally I will bring the phone out of sleep mode, only to find the screen at 10% brightness. When I check memory, there are NO running programs, yet there is a memory allocation bar that shows 0% allocated for storage, and -122 Megs available for running programs. Only a soft-reset fixes this issue. I have disabled X-button completely (as I have heard there is a memory issue with 2.0) but since it came native to this Rom, i cannot Uninstall it.
3. Activesync keeps coming back on, draining my battery. Now I know there used to be a trick to this, but for some reason nothing I have found so far keeps activesync from restarting.
Loaded programs since Clean Upgrade:
1. Magic Button ( don't leave home without it )
2. HTC Home Plugin 2.10
3. HTC Home Customizer
4. Advance Configuration Tool
5. Sprite Backup (need that one)
6. PocketCM
7. Google maps
8. GooSync
blah blah blah..
Anyone have any ideas I'm all ears.
alltel
I have updated mine to the new rom and works perfect
i got it all working including the GPS.
I have had no lock ups, no issues at all.
Screen stays at 100%, sync works fine both in cradle and over the air
Sound is great, alarms work fine
Cant see any issues
I will be updating my daughters tomorrow and will report back if any issues but i have a ton stuff loaded on mine and all is good and she is a basic user so I am sure it iwll all be good on hers to

Thanks. Althought that doesn't "Seem" to have ANYTHING to do with activesync, I'll take your word for it. I remember with the old rom Activesync would come on after a soft-reset, but close it once and it stayed closed.
As for some of the other issues, I did find out i was using a "hermes" version of HTC Home. After installing the correct version my phone runs MUCH better.
Issues Still Present:
1. I got locked out of my phone TWICE today. I have NOT set a password (Start > Settings > Lock ... "prompt if device is unused for... " is UNchecked.)
2. I have not yet been able to get GPS working with google maps.
--Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Location Settings is set to ON.
What other software can I test GPS with.. I rarely use anything else anyway.
Thanks for the info.
Today's Report:
My phone only locked up on me (by "locked up" I mean 10% screen brightness, unresponsive app apctivation... start menu still works, but no buttons launch. After a few minutes I can activate memory usage only to find out -122Mb allocated with non left for any apps).
I thought it odd tho.. 1st lockup was at 2:15pm 2nd Lockup was at 5:15pm (3 hour coincidence).. I expected the next at 8:15 but it didn't show till 9:00 (or there abouts because I wasn't paying attention.
I DID however notice that it happened today while the phone was charging, but it HAS done this directly out of my holster, so I don't think this is a clue. This seems to be a timing issue with an application somewhere.
Good news! I only got locked out of my phone once!! So I set a password and set it to 24 hours, something that will probably NEVER happen. If I get locked out again.... I'm going to looking for a Kitchen Rom. Can't be much worse.
I've tried TopNTP though GPS still won't find my location and if it does it takes over 10 mins.
I've just rooted my phone today so hoping I can get this fixed.

Yes I have been searching and most of them lead to TopNTP
Assuming your location is on/high accuracy and the map program you are using has permission to use gps, search for NV factory reset. You need to enter service mode, *#197328640#, and then get to NV rebuild option which is kind of convoluted, so best to follow instructions to the letter in this forums. I think another way to get there is using *#0011# but also tricky by hitting menu, entering q, then 0000, then going through the menus, which I don't remember offhand. That should rebuild your NV and fix the GPS.
I have not tried it since my GPS works fine but it seems to help others with issues.
GPS FIX

Maybe you already did this - if so, apologies. TopNTP will not install automatically on the Note 3, the gps. config file must be pushed manually to system/etc with rw-r-r permissions. If you don't install it like this the stock gps. config file won't be overwritten and the stock file is unchanged.
I've been having this issue on Note3 (9005 International Version) since upgrading to KitKat.
Before KitKat, it would lock in matter of seconds.
I tried everything. I mean, I even changed ROM's.
The *#0011# solution didn't really work. But, it kinda changed something.
Before, it would get stuck on 4-5 satellites. Not it gets stuck on 7-9. And, sometimes it gets a lock. A little, little better than before.
It's strange with my phone that it wouldn't lock only on my home country, SouthEastern Europe.
It would lock on neighbouring countries in matter of seconds. I get a lock in other parts of Europe as well.
In States, it takes 4-5 seconds to get a lock. In all these countries, I never loose a lock or nothing during navigation.
I get back home, I don't get a lock.
And it's frustrating . . .
Hello all,
so,
I have a samsung galaxy note 3 n9005, but one thing does not work, the GPS ...:crying:
- Google MAP, with wifi or 3G / 4G I have approximate positioning.
without WiFi or mobile data, no GPS signal, but the GPS icon appears in the notification bar
I tried everything I've seen on the web, flash a new ROM, Kernel, Modem ... nothing to do.:crying::crying:
It worked very well under the official rom SFR, but nothing since. and can not go back
Currently, I can not change a Modem
It always strikes me: N9005XXUGNG1
Thank you for your help

The common fix is, rollback to stock, enable GPS, install custom rom, it'll lock...
But you're saying you can't go back!
I'm on stock though
On dialer you type in * # 0011 # this USSD
Press the menu key> press back
Press the menu key> press the key input> Q
Press the menu key> press the key input> 0000
Wait for a few seconds and the screen will change options
Press on UMTS

GPS should work fine now
Recommend to use GPS STATUS app to reset and download AGPS Date
It should not be your ROM, I mean the chance is very minimal.
As I said previously, Note 3, for whatever reason depends on A-GPS data a lot. So it's actually normal that you are not getting a lock when there's no data. Do one thing, keep the data enabled, go outside, get a strong lock. Then disable data, and see. I think it should work. Assisted GPS data doesn't stay on device for long as far as I know. I think it gets cleared up at every reboot.
Download app GPS Status. By default the A-GPS download data I think is set at 12 hours interval or something, just set it to 6 hours or something.
PS: One more thing, I found a bug while using Google Maps, I saw that the GPS icon (in status bar) kept blinking as if my GPS was still trying to get a lock. Yet in practicality the phone already got a lock! I understood that by seeing Endomondo Pro (a fitness app which I use to track my walking and cycling) was showing as "GPS excellent", while that icon kept flashing on status bar. From that day I don't believe that notification any more. I only depend on apps like GPS Status from now.
My situation is that GPS doen't work in ANY S5 port.
It works in Lollipop as well as othes kitat rom thogh. :crying:
Any idea?
Hello, I'm new to this forum and I want to know is there anyway to fix my Samsung note 3 GPS? I'm having trouble with my GPS that constantly keeps on showing "Searching using GPS". For some reason it doesn't lock my GPS to "Location is set", The Specs on my Phone is Samsung note 3 (SM-N9005), Unlocked, Region from Greece, and my android version is Lollipop. I did the most following method from researching my Note 3 issues lately and still no solution to get it fix. The result on my GPS Status&tools shows the result that my GPS shows fix 0/17 Sats.
Heres the list of what I've done.
1. opening up the back of my phone unplug my GPS and re-plug it to the mainboard
2.tighten the screws on the backside to get the 2 pins to be contacted
3.updated my phone to lollipop and I still get the same result with no GPS fixes
4.location has been set to high accuracy and already set a google location history checked.
5.Rooted my phone to fix the GPS, still no solution.
6.Disabled the mock location on developer menu.
7.Downloaded GPS Status& Tools and reset my A-GPS or download.
8.Same issue along with Kitkat update.
9.Open Google Maps as a background app
10. Updated google play services and still doesn't work.
That's all I've done. Any solution to get this fix? My carrier is T-mobile. I can still text, call, use mobile data, other than GPS.
P.S. I've been playing Pokemon GO with it. Every time I drive to a main event, my character doesn't move all it does is jump to a different street.
Thank you.

You may need to be on a stock ROM for this to work, but this is what fixed it for my N900W8 (gleaned from this thread):
1. Open the Dialer.
2. Enter *#0011# (hit the call button if nothing happens automatically)
3. Menu key -> "Back"
4. Menu key -> "Key input" -> enter Q
5. Menu key -> "Key input" -> enter 0000
Now, if you have an "UMTS" option:
6a. Tap "UMTS"
7a. Tap "NV Rebuild"
8a. Tap "NV Rebuild" again
9a. Tap "System, Protocol, GPS, IMS"
10a. Wait a minute, then reboot
If you DON'T have an UMTS option:
6b. Tap "UE settings and info"
7b. Tap "SETTING"
8b. Tap "SYSTEM"
9b. Tap "NV REBUILD"
10b. Tap "PROTOCOL, GPS, IMS"
11b. Wait a minute, then reboot
After that, GPS should work again! Note: If you're not on a stock ROM and that doesn't work, make a TWRP backup, then wipe everything but internal storage and SD, install a stock ROM (preferably not an Odin one that will overwrite recovery), follow that guide, then restore your backup but DO NOT restore EFS or Modem. Worked for me.
Reads like hardware or kernel as GPS is a kernel function .

Just recently followed your method and its not locking GPS location to set by. I am in Stock ROM, its just that I don't want to take risk of rooting my phone. Is it possible to root the phone and use the app called "Faster GPS" just to get a better GPS locking?

Strange, then. Try downloading GPS Locker, it'll show you a chart of signal strengths for each satellite. Do you get any signal to any satellite? The problem I had that my method fixed was that it was seeing the satellites, and getting green bars, but not locking on to them. If you're not getting any bars, you might need to take it apart and check on those pins again - they should be bent upward so they make good contact. Faster GPS is also good for speeding up, but I don't think it'll fix it if something's broken.

Try using FasterGPS, but if that doesn't work, you may need to check the antenna again. If you're outside with a clear view of the sky and you're getting that poor of a signal, it seems like the hardware could be your problem.
In case you're using metal case, remove it.

Well... I tried FasterGPS today and well... I still cannot get a locked Gps signal. *sigh* I guess its just my hardware then... Well thank you for the help Jaitsu. No worry, I can live without the GPS as long I can use my phone as a hotspot for my other GPS devices. Will replacing the mainboard resolved everything?
Hey guys, just posted in rom section, but i will ask here also.
I have same problem with GPS. My phone finds like 25 sattelites but doasen't lock for a very long time (if it do it locks to 2 MAX 3 sattelites)
I tryed everything, screweing the screws open the back and put the antena out, i tryed with different modems, latest i flashed it's POK2...
When runned on 6.0.1 phrorensis 1.0v rom i did as i wote before, and the GPS worked great, realy in a coupple of sec. it locked 1'0-13 satelites... but than suddenly it stoped. I don't know its a rom problem, it's my phone... I also tryed variuous Kernels... always the same
So mate Try lo tie the screws, try, to open the pack and "put out" the antena "pins" if that doasent work, try to upgrade ur modem and try different kernel.
So try this ( the video is for s3 but i's simmilar for n3 )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZKlsQF4LE8
if not try flashing new modem
https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/firmware/
POK2. the newest is hlte_SM-N9005ZS/ ( well for my n9005)
At least you're seeing satellites... Which is more than I've got.
The latest Google Play Services has completely destroyed my GPS. It won't detect any satellites at all, and Google Play keeps scanning for Location even when every possible location setting is disabled.
Only way I can get satellites in view at all is to reboot with GPS off, then ONLY turn on the GPS. The second I select High Accuracy or Power Saving, it won't detect anything until I reboot. The seconds I open the Play Store, with or without location on, GPS is dead.
Thought it was my device dying (well, it is 3 years old), but my NotePro is doing the exact same thing since the exact same update. (It also won't detect 4G anymore, which, thankfully, isn't plaguing my Note 3....)
GPS problems - i solved it 4 me
So facing GPS problems?
I was facing it to, i tryed various things to fix it, i'did evrything i wrote down here
- Check ur csc version if it's not right you need to change it
i used https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...honeinfo&hl=sl
- try this app "FasterGPS" and insert ur location / country NEED REBOOT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...=org.fastergps
-Try to update modem and bootloader

-Try different Kernels , here is the link to DL kernels (now im using Lss3.3

- if still doasent work try to open ur phone and fix the "antenas"

I did all of these things than I let the GPS turned on. It locked the sattelites now its working like a charm it locks the sattelites in a few seconds.

Okay... I've done using fasterGPS and reboot to the exact location where I'm at, already opened the Antena, but now updating the modem and boatloader for my models seems to be lost. I haven't update it yet, but which SM-n9005 do I have to update with? Turns out mine is N9005XXUGB06 for the modem or bootloader. Btw, updating Kernel from Dark lord... Which version should I go for? Because I want to stay at official lollipop update instead of rooting it along with the update. I was thinking about maybe 1.6 - 5.1?

I've had my LG V20 for over a year now... it has been working fine until this morning, when I've started getting a popup saying "lg ims has stopped", about every 10 seconds.
I've searched around Google for a solution to this, but cannot execute any of the solutions that they mention...
1. I have not installed any new apps on my phone in weeks now, so that's not the issue.
2. Many solutions say to call 277634#*# to open a config menu, then open 'IMS Settings' on this menu and change 'IP Version' to IPV4...
Unfortunately, while I can get to the config menu, if I open 'IMS Settings' menu, this error pops up, and switches me back to the previous menu...
This is nuts!!! Is there any way to actually fix this, other than factory reset, which I *really* don't want to do!!!!
Please Help??
I have the exact same problem. I just did a factory reset. Once I got to the part about adding recommended apps, the darn "Unfortunately, LG IMS has stopped" message started popping up again. So, from my experience, doing the factory reset does not help eliminate this problem. Now trying to figure out what to try next.

Did this just start, yesterday or today??
I'm wondering if LG has actually discontinued some service that the phone relies on??
I'm thinking of getting another V20 from ebay, because I *really* love this phone!! But I don't want to end up with another phone having the same issue...

A couple hours ago. As you have probably seen, the problem is not new. Would love to know why both of us were affected today.
I'm currently trying variations of what I've seen on this page:
What is LG IMS and How to Fix the “Unfortunately, LG IMS Has Stopped” issue? – The Shared Web
Okay, here's an update... I switched back to an old phone, then powered up my V20, and this error no longer occurred... I also was able finally to get to the 'IMS Settings' menu (after dialing 277634#*# as recommended at all sites for this issue)...
I tried each of these settings (recommended by various sources):
> set IP Version to IPV4V6 (default is IPV6V4)
> set IP Version to IPV6
> disable VoLTE
In each of these cases, once I inserted a valid SIM and rebooted, this error message began occurring again.
So my best guess at this point, is that LG has simply disabled something on the V20, and I just won't be able to use it any more, at least with MetroPCS/TMobile...
I replaced my 12 year old wireless access point this a few days ago. Thought maybe the new WAP with Wi-Fi 6 was causing the problem. Put my old WAP back. Reset the phone again. Message started again when I got to loading apps.
Found this video that was posted today about the problem. Already has almost 21k views. One of the commenters says he contacted LG and LG is supposedly working on it and will push out a fix in 24 to 48 hours.

Whoa !! Thanks for the update!! I sure hope this works...
I found this a few minutes ago. I also have a v20 and this worked for me, so hopefully it works for you as well. It says to put into airplane mode, which for me did not stop the pop ups. Removing the sim card works, but once I put it back in, the error occured until I re-followed these steps. So unfortunately, you will just have to put up with the pop-ups while doing this. It's been about 15 minutes and I haven't gotten the message, so it looks like I'm in the clear. Hopefully you will be, too.
Set your LG phone to airplane mode to prevent the error message from popping up over and over.
Head to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App info.
Tap the 3-dot menu in the top right corner and enable show system.
Look for com.lge.ims.rcsprovider in the list and tap it.
In the detailed overview for this app, hit the following three buttons in order: Clear cache, clear storage/data, and force stop. (Depending on the Android version on your phone, some of these three options may be found under storage information.)
You may have to repeat step 5 above multiple times for the problem to fix itself.
And the clear data/cache was under storage for me.

Just to save others some trouble, please note that this video, itself, just repeats the same non-working solutions that everyone else suggested, none of which work, including factory reset.
However, the comments *do* appear to have further useful discussions of this subject... so we now can be sure that this is an LG issue... hopefully we'll have a solution in a day or two...
Thank you again, @kcclark99, for finding and sharing this video with all of its comments!!

Just as a side note to this post: placing my phone in airplane mode did *not* prevent this message from repeatedly appearing... the only thing that worked was removing the sim card.

Same here. The only problem is that removing the sim card while doing the method that I found was pointless, as once I put the sim card back in, the problem came back. Though once O followed the method with the sim card in, it went away and has stayed away. For now, at least. I assume turning off the phone will reset whatever I did, and I may have to do it again.
Still no fix for this from T-Mobile or LG.

Well, all we can do now is wait...

I should have added not to pay attention to the actual video. Thanks for correcting my oversight.

Works for me. I did only once. About 30 minutes, no pop-ups! Thank you.

Well, this *sort of* works with mine... however, every time I reboot the phone, I have to go through this sequence again...
That is not entirely a desirable solution !!
Later note: okay, I didn't read the original post clearly enough... @Arthilios already noted this issue...
Oh well, I can probably live with that!!
Putting the phone in airplane mode renders the phone basically useless. As soon as you turn on Wifi while in airplane mode, the error message pops back up. Can't switch to AT&T either because the T-Mobile's V20 doesn't work on AT&T anymore since AT&T turn off 3G service back in Feb 2022 even though the V20 is VoLTE capable. Another solution is pull the sim card out and just use it like a phone with blacklisted IMEI. LG said they're working on it but I doubt they're gonna push out an update for this 7 year old phone. Maybe they can make an app to take care of this. I think it's time to throw in the towel on LG and get other brands.

I want a phone that I can swap in a charged battery. When I looked at what was available two years ago, I found the V20 was still the best available, IMO. Current phones with that ability were low end models.
