I've had my LG V20 for over a year now... it has been working fine until this morning, when I've started getting a popup saying "lg ims has stopped", about every 10 seconds.
I've searched around Google for a solution to this, but cannot execute any of the solutions that they mention...
1. I have not installed any new apps on my phone in weeks now, so that's not the issue.
2. Many solutions say to call 277634#*# to open a config menu, then open 'IMS Settings' on this menu and change 'IP Version' to IPV4...
Unfortunately, while I can get to the config menu, if I open 'IMS Settings' menu, this error pops up, and switches me back to the previous menu...
This is nuts!!! Is there any way to actually fix this, other than factory reset, which I *really* don't want to do!!!!
Please Help??
I have the exact same problem. I just did a factory reset. Once I got to the part about adding recommended apps, the darn "Unfortunately, LG IMS has stopped" message started popping up again. So, from my experience, doing the factory reset does not help eliminate this problem. Now trying to figure out what to try next.

Did this just start, yesterday or today??
I'm wondering if LG has actually discontinued some service that the phone relies on??
I'm thinking of getting another V20 from ebay, because I *really* love this phone!! But I don't want to end up with another phone having the same issue...

A couple hours ago. As you have probably seen, the problem is not new. Would love to know why both of us were affected today.
I'm currently trying variations of what I've seen on this page:
What is LG IMS and How to Fix the “Unfortunately, LG IMS Has Stopped” issue? – The Shared Web
Okay, here's an update... I switched back to an old phone, then powered up my V20, and this error no longer occurred... I also was able finally to get to the 'IMS Settings' menu (after dialing 277634#*# as recommended at all sites for this issue)...
I tried each of these settings (recommended by various sources):
> set IP Version to IPV4V6 (default is IPV6V4)
> set IP Version to IPV6
> disable VoLTE
In each of these cases, once I inserted a valid SIM and rebooted, this error message began occurring again.
So my best guess at this point, is that LG has simply disabled something on the V20, and I just won't be able to use it any more, at least with MetroPCS/TMobile...
I replaced my 12 year old wireless access point this a few days ago. Thought maybe the new WAP with Wi-Fi 6 was causing the problem. Put my old WAP back. Reset the phone again. Message started again when I got to loading apps.
Found this video that was posted today about the problem. Already has almost 21k views. One of the commenters says he contacted LG and LG is supposedly working on it and will push out a fix in 24 to 48 hours.

Whoa !! Thanks for the update!! I sure hope this works...
I found this a few minutes ago. I also have a v20 and this worked for me, so hopefully it works for you as well. It says to put into airplane mode, which for me did not stop the pop ups. Removing the sim card works, but once I put it back in, the error occured until I re-followed these steps. So unfortunately, you will just have to put up with the pop-ups while doing this. It's been about 15 minutes and I haven't gotten the message, so it looks like I'm in the clear. Hopefully you will be, too.
Set your LG phone to airplane mode to prevent the error message from popping up over and over.
Head to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App info.
Tap the 3-dot menu in the top right corner and enable show system.
Look for com.lge.ims.rcsprovider in the list and tap it.
In the detailed overview for this app, hit the following three buttons in order: Clear cache, clear storage/data, and force stop. (Depending on the Android version on your phone, some of these three options may be found under storage information.)
You may have to repeat step 5 above multiple times for the problem to fix itself.
And the clear data/cache was under storage for me.

Just to save others some trouble, please note that this video, itself, just repeats the same non-working solutions that everyone else suggested, none of which work, including factory reset.
However, the comments *do* appear to have further useful discussions of this subject... so we now can be sure that this is an LG issue... hopefully we'll have a solution in a day or two...
Thank you again, @kcclark99, for finding and sharing this video with all of its comments!!

Just as a side note to this post: placing my phone in airplane mode did *not* prevent this message from repeatedly appearing... the only thing that worked was removing the sim card.

Same here. The only problem is that removing the sim card while doing the method that I found was pointless, as once I put the sim card back in, the problem came back. Though once O followed the method with the sim card in, it went away and has stayed away. For now, at least. I assume turning off the phone will reset whatever I did, and I may have to do it again.
Still no fix for this from T-Mobile or LG.

Well, this *sort of* works with mine... however, every time I reboot the phone, I have to go through this sequence again...
That is not entirely a desirable solution !!
Later note: okay, I didn't read the original post clearly enough... @Arthilios already noted this issue...
Oh well, I can probably live with that!!
Putting the phone in airplane mode renders the phone basically useless. As soon as you turn on Wifi while in airplane mode, the error message pops back up. Can't switch to AT&T either because the T-Mobile's V20 doesn't work on AT&T anymore since AT&T turn off 3G service back in Feb 2022 even though the V20 is VoLTE capable. Another solution is pull the sim card out and just use it like a phone with blacklisted IMEI. LG said they're working on it but I doubt they're gonna push out an update for this 7 year old phone. Maybe they can make an app to take care of this. I think it's time to throw in the towel on LG and get other brands.

I want a phone that I can swap in a charged battery. When I looked at what was available two years ago, I found the V20 was still the best available, IMO. Current phones with that ability were low end models.

How do I resolve this? Am I creating a problem or?

I never booked marked it, just signed into my live.com account clicked on "Devices" from the top left when you hover the mouse over "Windows Live" and it should show up there. But this is what the site shows up to me as now:

Is it possible that when I check how it works ( ring, lock, or erase your phone ) that I messed something and now you can not use that option.
in order for this picture when I go to Change Windows Phone 7 setting of switch me to that previous file
Oops...
Something went wrong and we can not show you this page right now.
Go to windowsphone.com
Is it possible that I am something in the phone or in checks or something messed up...
Oh, right. You do have to enable it on your phone first.
Settings > Find My Phone
You also have to have a live (ie hotmail or msn) account on the phone.
But you also might need to re-add it on the live.devices.com. I know after I flashed it, it didn't recognize my phone so I just hit "add a phone" on the devices page. It sends a text to the phone and then you should be good.
Hey, after I installed Rataplan v6.0 and tried to activate "Find my phone" in settings > find my phone, it says "Re're still setting up Find My Phone. This will take another moment or two to finish. Come back later to make sure it's been set up, then visit windowsphone.com to use it." It's been saying this since I installed the ROM. What should I do?
EDIT: Found the solution
"Long back story:
Here's what I was previously experiencing:
In Settings, it would list find my phone and have the subtitle "Setup Needed." When I tapped this, it would take me to the find my phone options and immediately display a modal dialog that said it would take a few more minutes to set everything up. When I hit OK, it would back me out of the find my phone settings. This left me completely stuck and no amount of rebooting or fiddling seemed to fix it.
Just now, while I was grabbing another phone to take a picture of the dialog to post here, my phone went to sleep. When I woke it up, the dialog was dismissed and I was in the find my phone options. I checked the first option, Connect to these features faster (may use more battery). I then hit back and the subtitle under find my phone reported connected. I logged into windowsphone.com and my phone is now listed. I simultaneously also received an email from windowsphone.com welcoming me to my new phone. There must be a bug that results in that dialog being dismissed when the phone goes to sleep, and that bug allowed me to toggle the first option, which re-attempted connecting my phone to windowsphone.com.
Anyway, long story short, if you are stuck in this boat, try these steps to work around them:
Set your lock screen timeout to the shortest available duration (1 min?)
Go to settings and tap find my phone.
When the dialog pops up telling you to hold on, set your phone down and leave it be until the screen turns off and the phone goes to sleep.
Turn your phone back on. You should be in the find my phone options now.
Check the first setting, Connect to these features faster (may use more battery).
Back out and verify it says connected and login to windowsphone.com and verify your phone is listed." - found this on windowsphone site, posted by someone. Not my solution.
Hello. I'm getting this notification that won't disappear on my Galaxy S5 even if I tap it or try to swipe it that says "Checking device status... Please wait...". It's just there, and it has been ever since I started the phone after my sister gave it a factory reset about 3-4 days ago. I found out that it's the samsung dm service so I disabled it, but when I restart the phone it reappears. I tried to find the location with the root explorer but I can't seem to find it. Any help please?

I know what it is. These instructions are for those who use their s5 without cellular service and could not get a successful activation after reset because there is no network carrier responding to status inquiries.
Samsung s5 tries to launch "no touch activation" and "system update" after a factory reset. To put a stop to this, go to settings > system update (under the system tab) and uncheck auto-update. You are half-way there! Now go to settings > application manager. You will be on the "downloaded" tab, move to the "all" tab. Find! "Software Update" 696k and disable it. Now restart if you want to test it! That was for Galaxy s5 SM-G900P or similar models that get stuck in activation loop or are unable to complete activation because of a bad config and you are on an unlocked phone with a valid SIM card or other CDMA configuration and If you are getting this error while trying to activate or sim/uicc unlock and you believe it is a bad config, you will need to configure the "Service Mode" menu first. Root the phone. Open /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu and modify its content from OFF to ON. Reboot. Open dialer and input *#0011# to enter "Service Mode" menu. Wait for at least 10 seconds and look for the three dots icon in the upper right. Press it and select "back" from the drop-down menu (not on the bottom of the phone.) Now wait ten seconds and press the three dots and select "Key Input" and enter the letter uppercase "Q" and press "ok". Wait at least three econds and go key input and enter six zeros, "000000" and press Ok on the seventh flash of the cursor. Wait up to 30 seconds for the secret menu to appear. If it does not, enter Airplane Mode, reboot, and retry. If by chance you are seeing a blank page, reboot and try again and if still blank, root your phone and start over. Still blank, you're done. Something's wrong with your phone. It ain't going to work for you. Once inside the menu, click item 2 "UE Setting", then inside that menu, click menu item "setting", then once inside that menu click "protocol", then once inside that menu click "[8] mscdma" and you'll see "1". Go to the menu in the corner and use option "Select" and it will ask for a row number. Type "0" and press Ok. Then press key input and enter "0". If you want to simunlock while you are in the menu (pointless on a CDMA model, those slots are for UICC cards not SIM cards but you may have success on GSM models but might be to get SSU to finish the job on 4.4.2 KK phones. This method works on 5.0 Marshmallow to use LTE from another carrier on the phone to get data and use Google Hangouts Dialer for a phone, etc. ) Redo all of these steps again to get to the menu where tmscdma was and click [9] uicc lock instead. Use the menu to toggle the On switch to Off. If you do not see the menu item, your phone is a CDMA and the slot is not a SIM locked slot, it's an unlocked UICC slot for LTE reception. Your slot is unlocked already, you are good to go. Whoever makes it this far should not be seeing the hands-free activation messages any longer. I hope hope this helps.

This worked perfectly out of the box but recently has stopped working. Not sure if it has to do with the QD9 update or maybe some other crap that installed. I can set the location fine and it clearly shows me inside the boundary but every time I get to the locks screen it still doesn't unlock automatically.
Anyone else have the same issue?

The problem with Trusted Place is that it’s very spotty! It only works for a day or two then fails to unlock the device. I’ve set two different locations, one for home and another using the latitude and longitude location. Only way to get it working is to reboot the device. Regrettably, it only works for a day before reverting back to my lock screen method again.
this not related to the galaxy s8. even my nexuw 6p and pixel. had this problem. it works when u set it up the. it jist stoppwd working after a few days. a restart or setting it uo again does work but same issue will happen next oe a few days after. bluetooth trusted device works but location is a problem. related to nougat.
Yep can agree with everything said here seems to work sometimes then other times not...Also I can't believe that google won't allow your home wifi network to be used as a trusted device.

need to do a "Wipe Cache":
* Turn off phone
* Press Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press the Power key
* When the logo appears, release all keys
* Press the Volume down key several time to highlight "wipe cache partition"
* Press the Power key to restart phone
Another way that does not require to go into recovery mode but seems to fix the problem for shorter time :
* Settings -> Apps -> Google Play Services -> Delete cache
* Reboot
I've also added bunch of points in all corners around my house in the Trusted Places settings
Hi, I've been using the essential phone for several days. I've installed lots of apps and other than a random glitch now and then, thinks have worked well. The system seems to be considerably faster than a Galaxy S8.
Two problems have recently surfaced. Smart lock is totally messed up (It was working for a while.) Now, when I get to the point in Security settings where I enter my pin, I get a blank screen. I've tried all sorts of things save a system reset. Smart Lock itself doesn't work any longer.
The other issue is intermittent freezes that last several seconds. Whatever the system is doing, it isn't responding at all. If I wait for a while, it proceeds to work fine.
Has anyone seen similar behaviors? Any suggestions short of a hard reset?
Thanks

For smart lock goto settings -> security - >trust agents
Toggle smart lock off, return to settings, go back and toggle it back on. Smartlock is back to normal, atleast this did the trick for me.
Thanks to both of you for ideas. I disabled two device administrators, both related to Lookout. I also deleted my fingerprints and all security. When I re-entered everything, all seemed fine. I will see if it behaves and then narrow it down.

Ok, so it seems like the same issue is showing up for OnePlus devices since recently: https://forums.oneplus.net/search/13954406/?q=smart+lock&o=date&c[title_only]=1
I can get mine to freeze consistently by using chrome and browsing to flipboard.com. After I login the whole phone will freeze, not even the power button doesn't do anything. I've tested it out on a few other devices and I get the same response from my Nexus 9, also running 7.1.1. In this case at least I don't believe it's the phone but something to do with Android itself.
I'm getting the freeze as well but my power button works, when I turn off the screen and turn it back on it works for a few seconds and then freezes again

You had the Smart Lock issue too?! I did a Factory Reset to fix it here, no amount of powering off/on the device, toggling Smart Lock in "Trust Agents" did the trick, it just...was blank one day. I've had the freezes as well, haven't noticed those after the Factory Reset now that I think about that.

Interestingly, the pauses and stuttering disappeared at the same time. It is exceedingly difficult to convert these anecdotal comments into a meaningful diagnosis.

Same problem with smart lock here and only solution seems to disable it, restart the phone and re-enable it...
Weird

You should be able to disable it in the trust agents settings, back up one menu the enable it again without needing to restart the phone. Someone else pointed this it out a few posts back and it's always worked for me.

Toggle smart lock off, return to settings, go back and toggle it back on. Smartlock is back to normal, at least this did the trick for me.

1. Turn off all Smartlock agents that are on the list.
2. Reboot.
3. Turn them back on.
I have experienced a few freezes. Only after the phone sits for an extended period of time and it goes to sleep and after a restart. I actually haven't had this happen lately, seems like things some how worked themselves out. As far as smart lock I haven't had any such issue. I do have a question regarding smart lock. Do you guess have an option for enabling it when it is connected to a specific Bluetooth device?

All the on/off tinkering with trust agents has worked for me, but the fix has always been temporary. Smart Lock will be OK for a day or so before returning to its broken state/blank screen in the settings. Wish there was someone (a company) who knew what this was about and could fix it.
AS OF JUL 19 THIS HAS STOPPED WORKING
I apologize if you did not get your bootloader unlocking!
At the moment, there is no information if the classic exploit will return, if it has worked for you, please make a post about it on this thread!
We will go back to work to ensure pixels will get unlocked. I do not know how long it may take, it could be a few days, a few months or a few years. For this reason I'd respectfully ask you for no ETAs on the development on the exploit.
I may keep this thread open if people are willing to crack on something or need help.
Thanks for understanding.
----
I wanted to make a new thread to clean things up as the correct answer is buried so far into the VZW thread and I don't believe people have time to dig down that far to do something so simple.
Please give @RaspberryPiBen a thanks by going to his quote for finalizing my rant and making it into doable steps.
The work by the community is absolutely incredible.

Here is what worked for me:
Prerequisites:
No SIM card in the phone
ADB and Platform Tools installed on a computer (https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/)
The latest OTA image downloaded to the computer (https://developers.google.com/android/ota#sailfish for the Pixel or https://developers.google.com/android/ota#marlin for the Pixel XL)
The phone connected to the computer with USB
Learn how to use ADB and Fastboot on your computer as it can differ.
Steps:
1. On the phone, open Settings>System>Reset Options and factory reset the phone. It should say "Restarting" or something similar.
2. When the screen goes black, press and hold the Volume Down key until you get into the Bootloader mode. Use the volume keys to navigate to "Recovery Mode" and select it with the power button.
3. Hold the Volume Down key for about a minute (while it resets) until you see an android lying down.
4. Hold the Power button then press the Volume Up button once. It should give you a menu.
5. Use the volume and power buttons to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and confirm the reset.
6. Once it finishes, select an option that is something like "Sideload OTA"
7. Go to your computer and type in 'adb sideload sailfish-ota-qp1a.191005.007.a3-394b5899.zip' (without quotes) for the Pixel or 'adb sideload marlin-ota-qp1a.191005.007.a3-23002a57.zip' for the Pixel XL OR you may drag the zip file into the command prompt after typing "adb sideload", either way it should look similar.
8. Factory reset again from recovery mode
9. Reboot to system
10. While it just shows the G, press the power button until the phone restarts
11. Once it boots up, skip all of the steps but disable the options for sending information to Google.
12. Enable Developer Options by tapping "Build Number" seven times
13. In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging
14. On your computer, run 'adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.phone'
15. Reboot twice
16. Connect to WiFi
17. Open google.com in Chrome
18. Check Developer Options to see if you can enable OEM unlocking
19. If you can't, swipe away Settings from the Recents menu and go back to Chrome
20. In Chrome, open a bunch of websites. After opening each one, check the OEM Unlocking option again and close Settings afterward.
21. Once you can enable it, do so! Now you can unlock the bootloader.
Unlocking the bootloader:
-Reboot and press the Volume Down key when the screen goes black
-On the computer, type 'fastboot flashing unlock'
You just unlocked the bootloader!

Hey guys. After 5 months of my purchase I finally achieved bootloader unlocking. Basically I am a user that has never updated to latest, I don't know if it makes it a variable if you're already on latest and try this. (I was coming from Sept 2019). So what I did was factory reset from the system menus. Then as soon as the screen went black, I did bootloader combos and straight to recovery. I factory resetted as prep, flashed DECEMBER patch, then after that finished, factory resetted again. Essentially, I followed the classic ADB exploit that has "never worked since Sept-Oct 2019" And yes I do have the VZW_001 CID and "_VZ" in GL website. Know when yours is bootlooping as soon as you reboot it, just hard reboot so it boots up quicker, I don't know what it does for it to take so long. Anyways when you get in, just setup like we'd always do, NO google account, turn off all setting requests (Data location, wallpapers, etc). Then as soon as I got in, I turned on debugging, ran the classic adb pm command, rebooted TWO times. This means as soon as I booted, i swiped to go to home, then rebooted a second time. As soon as I did that, I loaded up my wifi connection, I don't know if it matters but Im using the 5G wifi, then I load up google.com. Immediately, I already notice something strange. Google.com doesn't have a "valid SSL certificate" I thought it was weird, so I went to google.com on my PC and look certified SSL. As I knew that was weird, I was clicking around and I thought that was enough. so I went to the dev menu. OEM lock still grayed out. I went back to chrome and simply typed in "youtube" Let it load up. Then I clicked on the site. I went back to the dev menu. Still grayed out. I exited settings app and relaunched it to the dev menu. OEM unlock lit up in flying colors. I could not believe it. I instantly ticked it with 0 hesitation and rebooted immediately to the bootloader. The unlock command worked! I am now unlocked sailfish! I thank the community so much for all the hard work. I, only motivated the community to their potential. Thank you again!
Generally there are some kinds of factors.
Users have stated before if you OTA'd from menus to Latest patch, it would say "October", even though it's really december. This may make the unlocking procedure impossible. I have also not seen any marlin users report back to me yet about this method. You can still try flashing from googles site if you're already on "October = Dec".
Enjoy guys. We proved WE own these phones, and not VZW.

I hope you enjoy this guys. Regarding it, I do not know how long it will stay for so I suggest to do it now. At the moment, I do not know if this will work for pixel 2 and so on. You may try it but if you have issues you must go to your device board. Thanks.
I Can Confirm it works on Sailfish... unlock my phone on the day its discovered (July 15 ).
Big Thanks
Can this method apply for pixel 2 XL Verizon with July patch 2020???

How long does it usually take for people to get the option active? I followed the steps 3 times and tried loading a bunch of websites but no luck unfortunately Maybe just need to keep trying?

How much websites did you try to load? Did you go online only after uninstalling android.phone? Cheers.
Not sure, but I was at it for around 5 minutes with no luck.
And yes I only did wifi after uninstalling the android.phone like in the steps

Try a reboot and clear data of the settings app and visit various sites. Let me know how that goes. Cheers.
Tried that and still no luck.
Oh well, I'll probably keep trying tomorrow or something, not a huge fuss as I've since bought a new phone, but would've been nice to play around with custom ROMs on this pixel.
I went to check the IMEI number for my phone but it says "Unknown" in the settings now? Not sure if that contributes to it

So I tried following the bootloader unlock instructions 3 times but still couldn't get my oem unlock button to activate om the night of July 18. @djared704 What do you mean by clear data of the settings app, just like clear the app from recents?
Hi! Please, remember that the button may be greyed out, but it may be toggable anyway. So try to toggle it even though it's greyed out. Good luck!

Your IMEI is either unknown due to uninstalling android.phone, or actual corrupted/blacklisted EFS. If true, nothing can be done about that.
When you reset the device, did you flash December Android 10, and in the setup process, disable all the requests (data location, wallpapers, etc).
Is there a sim card in the phone?
Cheers.

I just retried the instructions and tried the toggle even though it was greyed out and it doesn't look like it worked. It wouldn't flip to "on" no matter how many websites I tried.

This was literally my 4th time trying. I bought my phone off eBay so I'm honestly not sure if it's a verizon variant. I tried a checking my IMEI on the Verizon and Google website, neither of them actually indicate that it's a Verizon phone. But if it's a Google phone I expected to be able to unlock my bootloader already... idk Maybe it came from Canada or somewhere else like the UK.

If you can gather enough evidence that your device is a Google store device, you can go here.
To get a 50% chance of displaying actual correct device, you can download Simple CID Getter on the Play store.
Cheers. Let me know how it goes.
