[Q] Flashing Packages to Stock OS? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I'm on stock Samsung software on my SM-G900V. The current update is NI2, and I was just wondering if there were any packages that I could flash to improve the functionality or just to add some cool stuff to my software experience. Perhaps something to increase battery life, or to add additional settings. I just didn't know if that were possible without flashing any custom ROMs and if so could you include links? Thanks in advance
Edit: Here's a screens hot for reference.

[Q] Deodexed recent ROM ? (XXMC2)

Hello,
I've tried to search the forum, but I only found customed ROM. It seems the latest ROM is XXCM2 (Changelist 1230243) for Europeans: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-S5360
I'd like someone skilled to apply the basic stuff to this ROM. I guess the base is to deodex the ROM and make it a CWM package. Maybe it will need a % Battery mod too.
After that, everyone would be able to customize the ROM (remove bloatware with applications like link2sd or Root App Delete/uninstaller).
For now, on forum I see only custom ROM without stock UI (often ugly) and often it's not precised on which official ROM it is based, and it seems that most of these developers/cookers don't use the latest Samsung firmware as base...
If someone skilled can help, thanks in advance, else I'll give up with this phone.

only if you want to edit smali files you need to deodex, and for removing stock bloatware it isn't needed.

[Q] Customization with DEodexed ROMS

I have read a bit on the topic of ROMs, but I have never rooted or installed a custom ROM until now. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I am just trying to figure out the whole odexed/deodexed deal.
From what I've gathered, deodexed ROMs were originally used to be able to edit things such as status bar colors (clock, notification icons, etc) and even the icons themselves. They boot 'slower' but after the initial boot it is not that recognizable as newer hardware more than compensates for this issue. (I have a Galaxy S5 G900P)
So I have flashed a deodexed ROM onto my phone (R.D.D.T.). Now, this ROM also has an odexed version as well. I assumed that having the deodexed version would allow me to edit icons, colors, etc. However, I'm not quite sure how I can do it.
I have seen and read about people installing custom, deodexed ROMs onto their phones, and many of them (Alliance, X-Note) will come with either an app pre-installed on the ROM, or a ROM-specific menu in Settings. This menu lets them customize things in the way I would like to be able to. The problem is that, at this time, the G900P (Sprint) version of the Galaxy S5 is not supported by either of those ROMs, or many other popular ROMs for that matter. R.D.D.T. (and R.O.D.T as well as the Mystery Build) was one of the only ROMs I could find that explicitly supports the G900P. I like the concept of this ROM, as it seems like a good, no BS bloat-less ROM that is otherwise very close to stock Android. But, I do not believe it came with any ROM-specific way of editing colors, themes, icons, etc. So my question is a few parts I guess:
-Is there still a way (downloadable app, editing files, etc) for me to be able to edit colors on the S5 with this ROM?
-In a situation like this, what is the benefit of having a deodexed ROM installed?
-Are there other ROMs similar to R.D.D.T. that currently support the G900P S5 which additionally offer customization?
-What is it with the Galaxy S5 that is causing so many ROMs to not officially support it?
Sorry for the long post, but my primary aim here is to learn everything that I can about this.

[Q] Opinion/Advice question

I just got two of these phones for my wife and kid. Since I'm a Note 3 owner and have been on 4.4.4 Biggins ROM cause I love the customization and the Xposed modules, the Lollipop roms are kinda new territory for me. So - that being said - what are some things I need to know with rom'ing and rooting an S5? Both phones came with 5.0 and I am not sure if I should downgrade them to a 4.4.4 rom so I can use Xposed (from what I understand, Xposed doesn't work on Lollipop), but here's the questions I need help/advice with:
1. Is there a version of Xposed that works with Lollipop
2. What do I lose besides Material if I downgrade from Lollipop to KK
3. Are the radios for KK better or worse than the Lollipop ones
4. What's the most customizable (battery icon, tether, network speed indicators, status bar mods, themes, etc.) Lollipop ROM? Which is the most developer active ROM for LP & KK?
5. Which offers the best battery life? LP or KK
I could use some advice from you, the XDA community since I'm not a noob but don't feel like "experimenting" with unstable features since these aren't my daily phones.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Nice double post by the way
1) not for touchwiz based ROMs
2) You're flashing an old ROM over a new ROM, you lose your system and data
3) some say the L kernel has better battery life, most say it's worse. It's probably a toss up
4) You need to determine that for yourself. They are all basically the same due to locked bootloader, only TW based ROMs will work, which severely limits things
5) see 3
Pretty much the same thing ldeveraux said, except for the radios they are basically the same if you mean cell service. I notice no difference. Also, for a ROM that is most customizable I would say either MOAR or Alliance. MOAR has lots of user customized things while Alliance has themes.
Thanks for the replies. I realized based on your responses, how I might have been a little more vague than I intended, but either way, the answer I was looking for most was pretty much addressed. I've decided that I'm going to downgrade firmware to the latest KK MOAR rom since both phones have no other data and a wipe won't disturb anything. I have TiBu backups of the apps, settings, etc so I'll just reload them both. Also, since theming is less important to me than customization, MOAR is the way I'm leaning, but I was wondering what the daily driver experience has been like for both. Has anyone run both MOAR and Alliance long enough to see general battery life comparisons, speed, features? Like, for example, are either roms having issues with common functions, like screen sharing, GPS, MMS, tethering, KNOX, etc? Since I mostly run Xposed with the modules I like, out-of-the-box tweaked interface is less of a priority since I'll just tailor the functionality afterwards.
As always - BIG THANKS for taking a look at my post and taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

SM-G900F - Picking up tomorrow, recommend me a ROM!

Hi guys,
Finally upgrading my i9300 after 4 years of constant reflashing, rom and kernel fiddling and lots of fun, but its s5 SM-G900F time.
What I'm looking for:
Stability - I need all barebone stock features to work 100% - Camera, Phone, Cell Data, Wifi, GPS etc, the standard hardware stuff. No crashing and force closing and other problems associated with highly custom roms.
Performance - I'm looking for a performance upgrade over stock
Debloat - A ROM that comes without all the bull****. Stripped down to barebones where I can choose what I want.
Some of my favourites for my s3 have been Slimbean, Archidroid, CM11, and many others over the years that have been focused on my requirements above. I dont need anything fancy and feature packed, just fast, stable and consistent. Preferably lollipop but MM might be ok too, unsure of performance at this point..
I've tried researching but there are really just so many ROMs out there. A couple that have interested me are XtreSto Lite, SlightRom and Sixperiance, but i'm really hoping you guys can steer me in a more focused direction. Hope you can help!
Thanks!
Run a debloat script on the stock ROM for improved battery, performance, and no crapware
Lose camera quality on non TW ROMs too

Works with Lollipop too
Flash from custom recovery

why not custom roms?

I'm quite happy with the hardware of this mobile although the software is not so elegant.
After every update I've did, a bunch of new problems were appeared.
Latest loaded rom is 360, oreo manual update.
As my previous mobile was an one plus two, I'm wondering what is wrong with this mobile or with huawei, in general, which is causing the lack of custom roms?
Really from the whole bloatware loaded maybe only the IR remote app could be retained if I could install a custom ROM.
Could you advice where I can find custom roms? what is available? detailed explanation with custom treble?
Thanks in advance!
IDK why 44 views and no reply?
is this a sensitive matter? if no chance to have a custom rom I want to know it!
No active developers with this phone apparently.
The kernel source is out, so you can build your own custom rom.
But I don't think you will get the camera working properly with a custom rom.
