New to Note 3 - Some questions please - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
I just bought a Note 3 9005 (LTE) version.
I would like to root it, install a custom recovery and flash a custom rom or keep the stock if I like it in the meantime.
==> What should I know? What is that Knox? How to root? flash CWM/TWRP? etc...
The phone is used and doesn't have any warranty so I don't care about software Knox counter or anything similar in case it DOESN'T affect anything hardware in the phone or doesn't hinder the usage of the phone!
Note: BTW what S5 rom would you recommend me?
Thank you!

Damn 78 views and no single reply... that's really sad!
I thought you would welcome me and help me!

You have many posts to read how to root....and for 5S you have 2 roms...

Because spoon feeding sucks.
What you are asking, is answered on the web in the millions. And besides, it won't hurt you if you do some reading on your own. Stop being lazy.

As you don't care about Knox, you can use CF-Auto Root. It is considered a easy way to root. I personally use CWM recovery.
Regarding custom ROM I have no idea.

- Hey
- Welcome!
- Then do just that
- You will trip KNOX - KNOX is a warranty counter than allows the phone to use Samsung KNOX services as well as your warranty status - Flash TWRP in recovery and let it root your phone.
- If you don't care about warranty you don't have to care for KNOX. You can happily flash any kernels and ROMs without hesitation.
- Use RC-Elite's S5 port, others are not supported by the devs anymore.
- You're welcome!

Just flash any rom (I prefer MultiX) and enjoy all the beauty of android

At the moment yes, as it is new... but custom roms are going to be released without upgrading bootloader so if you have stock rom without knox you can upgrade to newer roms without knox

Do some more search u will know what to do.
1st u have to know ur built#. If it is mj3 above, no way u can have an untrip knox after rooting, even if u use urdlv mentioned on above post.
Even if u have lower than mj3, if u decide to flash custom recovery and rom, it will trip ur knox.
Even if let's say u have lower than mj3, u just do rooting with urdlv, when u want to upgrade to kitkat, ur root will be gone, and if u re root again, it will trip.
Conclusion : make up ur mind to throw the flag to enjoy note 3.
Before u decide to trip knox, test all the note 3 issue on ur device first, at least before knox trip, if anything wrong with ur device u can still claim warranty.
Cheers.

If you want to flash, do so on the premise that you will lose your warranty. I've flashed hundreds of times and never bricked once. Just read. Then read again. Just when you thought your brain might implode. Read AGAIN!!
For your first time pick a rom that's used by the majority. Chances are any issues you come across have been dealt with. Also once a Rom has moved onto a high version number. Eg. Omega rom for note 3 it's on v12, they are just tweaking small things, so it's good to go with these. .

[Q] CWM recovery removal with out tripping Knox Counter??

I recently purchased a SM-N900W8. Love this device, just retired my S2 which i messed around with for a few years and never had issues...
I neglected to do research on XDA (Big mistake) before rooting it and had no idea about the repercussions of this KNOX issue.
I used this method to root it (http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-3/)
I successfully installed CWM recovery and SuperSu and the phone is rooted. I had no intentions of installing Custom Roms just yet just wanted to be able to use some of my favorite apps that require rooting. The phones Current Binary and Phone status have both been tagged custom but my KNOX Warranty Void is still tagged at 0X0. Needless to say maybe I got lucky?
I was hoping to Revert to Stock and Unroot so I could follow this method instead (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498850)
Is there anyways to Accomplish this without tripping the KNOX counter? I've been scouring the forums for several hours trying to find a concrete answer but cannot.
I have downloaded my stock firmware (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=26653)
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have included a screenshot of my device info. I apologize in advance if this issue has already been addressed.
Thanks,
-Rob
For device info and Knox warranty status, you can use my app Phone INFO ★Samsung★ to get more detailed info.
Download link in my signature.
Why did you even install CWM if you didn't need it ?
Why do you want to remove it ? Don't fix it if it ain't broken. De la vega will trip Knox in 4.4, so leave it as it is.

Will do. Was just worried about official updates and warranty if phone still says custom but knox is not tripped. But bell outsources another company for repairs and doesn't send back to Samsung directly so I probably don't need to worry to much..
I used CWM because I've used it for a couple years with my S2 and enjoyed the features so when I saw cwm was avaliable for note 3 I jumped on it.
But there is no way to revert to stock without tripping count?
Thanks.

Flashing stock using odin should rever everything back to stock and possibly not trip knox counte, I am saying possibly cuz nobody has tried to flash stock recovery and try to keep knox cool as custom recoveries have tripped everyone's knox AFAIK. But your phone FW or maybe something else might make your device an exception.

I will leave as is for now until more info on the subject surfaces. As much as I want to try to flash back to stock recovery and test your theory I will hold out and not mess around with CWM or mess with apps requiring root to much incase it decides to trip the counter.
Thanks.

Cricket S4

I have the Cricket Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C and was just wondering which subforum applies to me? IE to root, custom recovery, and flash ROMs from? I usually deal with Sprint/VZW phones (mainly Nexus devices) so I've never had to decypher by model numbers. Thanks for the help.

You can search for "jfltecri" because that's the "Name" for your phone. But there aren't special forums on xda

Flash this in Odin: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/jfltecri/philz_touch_6.15.4-jfltecri.tar.md5
Or what do you want to do excatly?
@Tkkg1994 So here's what I've done:
Use TowelRoot to root my device. It is currently on 4.4.2.
I have booted into download and saw these, so I know I'm good here:
Knox Kernel Status: 0x0
Knox Warranty Status: 0x0
I would like to install a custom recovery on my device as well as custom ROM.
1. I saw CyanogenMod's guide (here) to installing a custom recovery then custom ROM. Will this guide trip the Knox flag for the recovery OR the ROM?
2. (Knox, as I understand it, is for warranty purposes only, correct?)
3. If that guide will trip Knox than are there any you know I should follow for a custom recovery and custom ROM?
4. Also, which subsection of S4 would I be able to install ROMs from? I've seen the jfltespr lump in the jfltecri a bunch when I search. Would most sprint ROMs work for the Cricket S4?
5. And lastly, if I do not care about Knox, does it matter how I go about installing the recovery and ROM? (I know what I'm doing flashing wise, I've owned a GNex, Nexus 5, few tablets, etc) Just pushing the recovery.img via adb then flashing a ROM? Cricket does not offer warranties and if I ever flashed it to sprint I wouldn't get a warranty so does warranty really matter?
Thanks for the help and sorry for being long winded. If you do decide to GRACIOUSLY answer, could you kinda format them like mine so I can follow along? Thanks!
@Tkkg1994 got an answer for me bro? Sorry to bother. And thanks.

1. Yes it will trip your knox, because you don't have the original firmware on your phone, it only can be tripped once. For both things.
2. Yes, you're right there.
3. Question is, have you got a problem when your knox will be tripped?
4. The Sprint ones should work fine. I would make a backup in the recovery and try a sprint rom.
5. If you don't care about it, it's don't really matter how you do it. I would flash Philz Touch through Odin3.09 and than install your custom rom in the recovery
Sorry that I answered that late, didn't saw your post before. Sorry again!

[Help] Install 4.4.2 Custom ROM without Knox Tripping

Sorry, for question, I am coming from Nokia Lumia and HTC worlds. So, I still don't have a lot of experience regarding Knox issues. I have searched a lot and find nothing specific for my case.
My N9005 is on Android 4.3 MJ7 version, currently I have 4.4.2 OTA upgrade downloaded and ready to be installed. I want to install any rom 4.4.2 or above without tripping my knox. Already rooted using Kingo method and installed MOP.
The question is if I upgraded my device, does MOP still capable to install the custom ROM without tripping Knox, and how to backup my current nand without installing custom recovery?
I think that I can also install custom recovery via MOP without tripping the Knox, right?
Thank you very much in advance

Last I checked there wasn't a clear cut method, it could be done. And since you're still on 4.3 it may be easier.
Have a look around and check the threads, there was some workarounds posted a few months back. It's not easy but it was doable. Using Mobile Odin Pro (still possible AFAIK)
I personally like a lot of others just tripped KNOX as it was a lot easier. However this isn't a viable option for everyone.
So in my opinion and my personal advice, weigh up the pros and cons of potentially tripping KNOX.
If you wanna flash custom ROMs, kernels without any headaches. Aren't too worried about your warranty (especially if you've had your device a while and are in the EU)
CONS: while you may be able to get things flashed and not trip KNOX, you may accidentally trip it with something so trivial, you'll always be trying to not trip it by avoiding different things.
Really, and ultimately only you can decide. No one is gonna judge you if you decide it's best for you to not trip and go the workaround methods.
Either way, whatever you decide, the forum is here to help if you have any questions or get into any difficulty. Good luck in your choice.

Thank you very much friends for your help.
I have tripped my device already , and I am happy, I can flash any rom I want. That's more more easier than worrying about a make no difference digit change in the download mode screen.
