Hello,
recently I spilled some water on the back of the phone. somehow the USB socket got the worst of it and stopped functioning correctly (only charging using a specific charger worked, no PC connection).
I bought a replacment USB socket from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121421147473?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649
yesterday I followed the video guides to open the nexus, and replaced the usb socket.
now, after closing it, a gap appears in the housing in such way, that socket is not perfectly alligned, so when I connect the micro usb cable, it doesn't go straight in, I have to give it a certain angle.
it looks like this:
from inside the phone, the usb socket sits perfectly good. I just can't get the clips in the housing in the usb socket area to close.
anyone knows how to deal with this?
also, since replacing my usb socket (the usb socket has the LED on it too), the LED configuration is not the same.
what happens is the wrong color is flashing. I tried "Light Flow" and "LED Color Tester".
for example, I choose Yellow, and Magenta is flashing.
what going on?
thanks!
The same is happening to me. I replaced the usb flex (bought from ebay) a couple of weeks ago and the LED only shows magenta, even when I choose a different color. :crying:
I have all the colors available, not only Magenta.
the problem is the written color is not the same as the color that actually flashes..
anyone?
I have the same issue. I seem to have all the colors but when I choose red it's blue and blue it's red and so on. I contacted the seller I bought it from and they said it was a problem with the main board and to look there. I am at a loss as to what to do next. I was thinking about taking it all apart and cleaning all the boards with alcohol to see if that does anything.
I was given the phone non working and there seemed to be water damage on that board. I replaced the battery and I have to order the volume buttons for a third time because the first set never showed and the second time I got 20 screen protectors for a galaxy tab.

So I had my xoom connected to my friend's big tv at his apartment yesterday, and his room mate tripped over the cable, and broke it. Like, he pulled the metal micro hdmi part out of it's plastic housing and it was bent at an angle. Also all the contacts are messed up.
The port on the xoom looks fine. I went to radioshack today to test it with a cable there while I wait for another 10 footer from Monoprice, and I'm not sure about the results.
I dont know if it was the cable they had, the tv I was using it on, or the xoom, but this is what was happening. When pushed fully hard in, it seemed ok for the most part. Some times when I pushed down on the cable (the same way it was ripped out) the audio would crackle and the screen would turn green. It also had to be fully all the way in for anything to display. I put on Die Hard and moved around with my xoom and it kept the image and audio fine.
With my old cable, sometimes it would (somewhat randomly?) lose the connection and I'd have to fidget with the cable. I dont know if that's carrying over here and getting amplified because I'm using a worse cable and tv.
How durable are micro hdmi ports? I know the link cable prots on the game boy advances were VERY easy to snap off (i've done it) and micro usb and other similar ports are easily broken if you drop the device while it's plugged in or something.
I have had several full size HDMI ports fail on me on other devices in the past and the behavior you are describing sounds like the port and not the cable. My guess is that it was damaged when the room mate tripped over it. To be honest though, if you were having problems before, you probably had a bad port to begin with. I would it take back and get it replaced if you are still able. Just omit the tripping story hehe.
yeah i got another one. it's charging now. I had a problem with the charging indicator not changing from white to green on my last one, seeing if this has the same issue.
1. After changing the USB Charging Flex Ribbon, the notification LED lights constantly green after switching on.
2. My battery drain is also dramatic (max. 7 h before empty). I guess thats another problem though (Android OS/System).
3. The Phone is only charging with USB power, though its connected to different chargers which deliver up to 2A.
I had to change the Flex Ribbon, because the microphone stopped working after getting a hot tee shower. Though the micro is still barely usable because one can understand me very bad.
Is it possible to change only the microphone?
Thanks for any tips.
PS: Im using CM 11 (updating nearly every day)
It could be a faulty part, but water damage causes weird stuff like that too..
Open it up and check your connections, and also inspect the board for any sediment or corrosion deposits. It might be what's causing the short that's keeping your LED on and the USB only accepting a single form of charging. If you find some, clean it with a little isopropyl.
Hi guys,
So after 2 years of owning my nexus 4 the charging port had become extremely loose.
I ordered a replacement which I believe to be a genuine part.
While removing the battery to take the charging port out I made a "rookie error" and accidentally tore the ribbon connector on the battery.
So I ordered a genuine LG replacement battery through amazon. I put everything back together after installing the new battery and port.
I left the phone to charge for a few hours and went to turn it on and nothing happened.
I have noticed a few things:
When i use the old usb port with the new battery, the instant the charger is plugged in a red light flashes once.
When i use the new usb port with the new battery, the instant the charger is plugged in a green light flashes once.
If i hold down the power and volume down button then plug the charger in it takes me to the "android robot" menu but before i can select any options it automatically selects start and goes to the "Google" screen.
Once at the "Google" screen the google logo shows for a maximum of 3seconds and the phone shuts down the led light blinks once.
I realise I could just replace the phone but i have a lot of important data, files and photos that i need to recover urgently.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Please be aware that all 'genuine' usb charging ports in ebay, aliexpress have notification light soldered in wrong way so green light is red and red is green (not sure if that applies in opposite but definitely the colors are wrong).
There's workaround for this issue: using custom rom with notification light set-up (Chroma, Pure Nexus, etc).
Then you can go to this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/major-discovery-regarding-battery-red-t2128392
Usually, you could change the port without messing up with the battery at all
Hi,
I recently bought a Blackberry Priv whose touch wasn't working and it had a black spot with a vertical and horizontal red and green line lit up ...
I wanted to access the phone through a OTG, i was able to briefly get the mouse cursor, but turned out the OTG had a loose contact, and the cursor wouldn't show up anymore, so i ripped my OTG cable and set out to rebuild it as a DIY project ... after much trial and error i think i was able to successfully build one.
I connected my DIY OTG and the cursor was back on the screen, however when i tried to operate it on the screen it left a trail of pixels when swiped on the screen ... scared thinking i may have damaged the screen i immediately rebooted the phone ... on reboot the trial of pixels weren't there anymore ... THIS WAS PROBABLY MY WARNING ... HAD I HEEDED ... i wouldn't be here writing this thread ... but i guess whats meant to be will happen anyways.
The mistake is that i wanted to check the voltage on the OTG cable when it was connected to the device ... i took a multimeter and touched the Ground and Vcc points on the OTG USB side to get a voltage reading ... poof the PRIV went DAAAAAAAARK ... aka ... DEAD ???
i don't know ...
Is that the end of my device ?
is there any safeguard build in android phones at the micro USB charging port end, something like a fuse(an IC, transistor, some component that will bear the brunt of a faulty charging wire/data cable) that will protect the sensitive and critical parts of the device ?
If i have to proceed the hard way ... is there a circuit diagram available for Blackberry Priv so that i can track back the components which might have been fried as a result of the STUNT (of touching Vcc & GND on the OTG cable) i pulled ?

Hi,
Please can anyone tell me whether the little connector on the vibration motor is supposed to be soldered to the motherboard or does it just touch at a certain place?
I've already posted another thread about having replaced the battery but it doesn't seem to charge.
Without going into details all over again, a local repair shop replaced the charging port last week - my phone was returned in seemingly working order but they had assured me a bulging battery was OK. I charged my phone but the battery was draining quickly, which was what led me to research a bit more and discovered how dangerous it can be so I ordered a new one.
In the process of fitting the new battery, I discovered half the screws in my phone missing, no copper tape, plus there is no black rubber cover over the charging port & vibration motor as is shown on the guide for replacing the battery on the fixit.com website.
So I'm wondering if the small square 'connecctor' (?) part of the vibration motor ought to be soldered to the motherboard or is it just normally held in place by the black rubber cover? In my phone now, the 'connector' doesn't stay touching motherboard so I'm not sure if this would affect the phone and stop it from functioning or would it just mean the vibration wouldn't work?
Would this affect whether the battery could charge or not?
(Incidentally, I discovered that the the battery connector was upside down compared to the pictures in the ifixit.com guide (the red wire was nearest to the battery instead of the black wire being nearest) so I was hopeful that by correcting it to match the picture, I would have solved the problem but unfortunately, it didn't make any difference. When I connect a wall charger, the screen just flashes and when I connect it to my laptop, it just gets a blinking white led but nothing more. It seems strange to me that it wouldn't make a difference - is it like a usb-c cable in that it can go either way round?)
The battery seller asked for photos of the new battery in my phone and has now offered to replace it - is this likely to make a difference or is the vibration motor not being attached to the motherboard the cause of the problem?
I'll be so grateful for some help.
