Hi mate,
It depends in what are you looking for.......if you are happy with your phone as it is ,no...but if you wish to clean bloatware , do some tweaking that is the way to go

I would say, use it without root for a week or so, and then see if there is anything that seems anoying/could be better in your opinion.
If yes, then do a search and there is (very probably) a fix for this, that might need root and/or custom rom flashing.
If no, then really it's not mendatory for sure

Actually I'm using my phone for more than a month and I find it ok

That's your answers of your question
And when you want to, you have every time the possibility to root it.

No need for Root!!!

Ok please dont start flaming me, its just my opinion after all
I received my first SGSII 6 weeks ago, and as flash addict (because of my previous sgs), I started to itch and I had mucsle cramps and my mouth drooling. this was 2 weeks after
From that moment I realised that I have to start over rooting my device & then flashing it (to get my daily fix). I did my homework for 2 days (thx to the great devs and the wonderful community here) & then rooted it. the experience is easy and straight forward.
2 days after I started flashing different awesome roms, all of them r great with very solid form factor. However, my phone front speaker was not clear and after asking here i found that I need to replaced it (special thanks to JJe who is dedicated to help)
My experience
After receiving a new phone and playing with it for around 2 wk now, I was able to realise that the advantages in rooting+flashing the awesome SGSII are very marginal, in contrast to the old sgs. In fact this device has cured my addiction, for now and im having a real life again
yes, I miss titanium, CWM, the beautiful theming of the new roms, file explorer, quick reboot, gps aids and few others. Nevertheless, the device is fast, snappy with crisp experience out of the box.
My advice
1- Dont listen to people who r *****ing about the phone all the time because this phone is almost perfect but not perfect though.
2- Dont, I repeat Dont root+/-flash ur device unless u reached the point of understanding the advantages of doing so
Disclaimer :
I held no responsible what so ever if I caused u any pain by reminding u with ur addiction

Second.
The stock Touchwiz UI has a LONG way to go to match the aesthetics and usability of MIUI or CM.

Generally pretty damn true.
But you forgot the best reason ever to root, because you can!
The advantages of rooting imho are: cwm, titanium backup, access to the conf files, adfree, and some more. I don't care about custom roms, the stock is good, you can freeze unnecessary stuff and instal other kernels or launchers.

Even still not that stable, but the usability still blows the stock ROM out of water, especially MIUI.

Root can be really nice if you know what you doing. I fully agree with the op. But again I'm sure the most people know what they are doing. My GSII is not rooted this is the first time I didn't modify the phone for my own needs.
The galaxy is perfect as it is. I miss titanium, cyanogenmod etc. Bug I have a solid os. I really don't need any root (atleast for now).
I read all the issues on xda and I must say I have none of them. No random boots I have great battery life 1 day heavy usage. I had no lag what so ever.
This phone is great as it is. I have nothing against rooting but I won't recommended to normal users

In some countries if you don't have root you can't use "market enabler" for you to update Google Maps.

this world is not about rooting only, tons of apps and upgrades r going on without the need for a root access.
however, rooting is a double edge weapon dont use it until u understand it+plus u need to watch what r installing on ur phone as they will have more access than u know

Galaxy note on its way

So.... today i dropped my phone (htc desire HD) and smashed the screen
and it really annoyed me for such a stupid mistake so i decided to cheer myself up and get another t mobile line out.
worst thing is my contract runs out in august so i only had a few months to wait.
but anyway.... i took the 2nd line and choose the galaxy note.
few questions.....
what will this start on? will it be 4.0.4 or will it be 3.2 something or other?
if its the 3.2 how hard is it for me to get straight onto 4.0.4?
will i need to root it?
I'm based in london, UK for anyone that might need to know.
note don't run on 3.x, most likely you will get a 2.3 phone. 4.03 was released few days ago in germany.
enjoy the wiki while you are waiting for the phone.

cheers mate, so i'll be stuck on 2.3 for now? any idea as to when the 4.0 will be available for me?
or would it be easier to root? only reason i'd root is for the 4.0 though so not sure its worth doing.
i cant believe im more angry with myself that i dropped my htc desire hd than i am happy that im getting the note.
im gonna have to just pay the remaining months line rental for a phone that will be stuck in the bedroom draw

But this is for rooted users yes????
I'm more than happy to root my new note, as i've rooted all my other devices in the past, (htc desire HD) (archos 101 g9)
but not sure if its worth the root just for the 4.0

note is great but i would recommend u to go for S3! Note is just a multimedia master, all time champ, throw any thing and it will F*** that in less than u can blink ur eye but S3 is also a good phone..... lols
any ways on the serious i would recommend u to go to S3 cause it is better in terms of software than Note. samsung is not giving a **** about Software of Note. only one official rom and that also full of bricky ****.... Go for S3! it has more bright future!

reason i went for note was....
I have a phone and a tablet, when im out i use my phone (htc desire HD)
indoors i use my tablet, so i thought i'd get something that can do what my tablet does, thats why i chose the note.
I do like the look of the s3, BUT... i want a bigger screen and the note is perfect for what im after.
all i want now is a link to where i can get this 4.0 from? as once the note arrives to me on tuesday, i really dont want the 2.3 crap that comes on it.
So can anyone guide me to the right thread/place ect, so i can update my new galaxy note to 4.0 ???

Nope, running CyanogenMod9 with no problems at all! Gotta be careful though, be sure to read the warning sticky before doing any flashing. It is a bit of reading, but it can very well prevent you from hardbricking/superbricking your shiny new Note.

Sure can. I did. Just use PC Odin to flash the german ICS stock rom.
So where do I get this PC Odin and also the German ics?
And is there any downside to doing this? Like problems with the ics ?

You can, but the official ICS update contains an unsafe kernel that has already claimed Notes (don't know the details, but it's related to doing stuff in recovery). I wouldn't recommend official ICS if you plan on rooting/flashing.

[Q] Should i buy i9300 or i9305 ?? Pls HELP :D

I know that i9305 has 1GB more of RAM and has LTE but im confused about developer support. Everyone says that it has almost none developer support. Does that mean that even Samsung wont develope new updates and it will have less features than i9300, or it means that it wont have as much custom ROMs as i9300 has ?
If i9305 has the same updates and the same features that come with those as i9300, then ill go for i9305 for sure
And BTW i dont need LTE
Hope someone will answer fast
Thanks in advance!!
You're better off buying another device, perhaps a Nexus 5 or even the newer SGS if money is not a problem.

Well i kinda dont have money for better device And i find S3 the best phone for me right now but that developer support for i9305 bothers me
And also do i really need that extra 1GB of RAM ? I saw videos on youtube and only difference i noticed was that i9300 needs to reopen apps after it consumes too much RAM and that makes him a bit slower than i9305 everything else seemes exact same

depending on where you live/LTE coverage. there isnt too much of a difference between the 2 devices. i used my i9300 and my uncles i9305 and couldnt notice much if anything. so if you dont need LTE save yourself some money and buy a good case or something

Get the i9305. Even without the dev support, you'll still be able to find one or two decent roms. And these days everything is achieved by Xposed anyways. The newer updates from 4.3 on will really need the extra ram.

Well the dev support is great with 9300, also i don't see ram as an issue too. It depends upon whether he's a heavy multi-task user or lowe multi-task user? I'm pretty happy with 200-300mb ram free always

If we get stock 4.4 on our I9300, won't it be supposed to consume less ram than stock 4.3 ? After all the whole point of KitKat was less ram consumption.
I'm actually expecting when samsung releases 4.4 for our device it will greatly improve multitasking... hope I'm not wrong.

Possible to port Samsung Galaxy S4 lollipop to Nexus 4?

Hello All,
Samsung has started rolling out Lollipop on Galaxy S4. I would like to know if it is possible to port that ROM to Nexus 4?

I thought the same exact thing when I saw the title but it the spirit of xda, yes it could be ported but the s3 would probably be easier if there was one which there probably isn't.
All depends on how much effort you wanna put into it though

Truthfully all my porting skills are in my head and I never followed any links to do so.
The s4 has a 801 processor which would be a very good difference from what is in the n4 so matching up a touchwiz ROM init filed on kit Kat would be my starting place to see what the differences are from there.
Then from there it comes down to figuring out the differences in lib since most touchwiz changed are in the frameworks.
In the end, you would end up with more mako then s4 which is what you want

Thanks! I also compared S3, S4 and mako. And as you said S3 is much closer to mako. So I'll start searching while keeping S3 in mind :good:
I just sold my S5 as TW ram so damn horrible on LP, a phone of that spec ran slower than a Moto G, why would you want that crap anywhere near a nexus device?
