Hello,
I have my Z3C for a few days now and I think it is great!
I haven't drop it (yet) so everything is alright. Still I found a possible weak screen spot.
I was tapping the screen a litte big rough and I noticed some colours changed. You know, the regular changing of colours when performing force on a LCD screen.
It is just right of the text "slide to unlock" on the lock screen and doesn't take much force.
I applied some force to every part of the screen and noticed that the same spot showed those weird colours.
Is anyone else noticing this and might this be a weak spot?

All OK on mine just checked.
<deleted>
Any pictures of this?
I tested mine and it seems fine.
Just dropped it a few minutes ago, it is more slippery as sope.
I just added a picture of the possible weak spot.(i.imgur.com/bHWrCzM.jpg)
I noticed the same sort of problem.
I have had my handset for about a week now (pre-ordered on Sony store, received it on Oct. 7th), it's an orange D5803, production labeled as 14W37.
Last weekend, a few days after owning it, I spotted at first a brighter spot at the bottom of the screen. As I left on the original protecting plastic foil, at first I thought some air just got trapped underneath it. After removing the protection layer for applying a proper plastic protection, I figured it actually was a screen bright spot.
Investigating further this issue, I noticed than by touching at the bottom of the front glass, "color waves" typical of suffering LCD displays appear up to the spot all along a vertical line, which I figured being an internal reinforcement or otherwise part of the inner structure.

As I tried to render with this "3D scan" of the front glass surface (both the phone and the light source were fixed, the point of view for the camera moving in order to perform a full swipe), the screen seems to be "pushed up" from the inside of the phone, just underneath the bright spot.

EDIT: As I turned off the device, I had the opportunity to check a theory I had formulated in these days: the SIM tray appears to end up exactly underneath the bright spot, thus its supporting structure (faulty design tolerances/incorrect assembly?) may be involved in "pushing up" the screen from the inside.
I will contact the support service tomorrow, just to avoid ending up with a damaged screen in a few months of use.
i think i have a similar issue with my z3c. A strange dark spot appeared near the middle of the screen. I'm going to contact support tomorrow.

Can you test this by starting up your phone without the sim card?
I also see a sort of yellowish tint. Is that also there in reality or just in the picture?
And have you been putting a lot of excessive pressure on your screen while doing tests?

In fact (sorry I did not document that), I turned the device on without the SIM card tray, both checking my hypothesis on its geometry (superimposing the tray to the screen) and the screen behavior.
Whereas the geometry was compliant to my idea, the bright spot was still there - perhaps because the screen is damaged already? - and the behavior on touching the glass bottom was the same. But for the latter I was not surprised, as the vertical line has apparently nothing to do with the SIM card tray alone.

If for the "yellowish tint" you are referring to the two diagnostics (whole screen) pictures, I am afraid it's more of a "color aliasing" issue with the camera I used, as to the bare eye the white color is absolutely uniform at every lighting level, except for that infamous spot.

I wouldn't say so. The "tests" I did barely went beyond noticing the issue, in fact the "touch" picture was taken with the finger pushing very lightly on the glass. You just can see that spot all the time on a white / light background. I usually carry my phone in the front pocket, but that shouldn't apply any excess or continuous pressure on the screen glass.
i had to edit the picture because I have taken the picture with low light conditions. It's just to have an idea of what I'm talking about

I had my Universal in my back pocket when I sat on the car's seat. I felt it there right away so I got off the car and checked on the Universal, the screen'd gonr white with some colored lines! The phone was fully functional except for the screen.
Today I check the coxial cable but got nothing. Tried to play around just doing things with no luck.
I was hopeless, thought I'd pay loads for the screen. I went nuts and started to smack it on my desk. Guess what happened, it worked again!
I was like shocked and happy to see the screen back on ! I'm gonna check on it now, rotate the screen and so, lets see if it stays alive.
Cheers.
Try it again mate. If it works, we can add it to the wiki
good job!, I know a story like this!
my friend was playing with his Universal while breathing some fresh air out
then suddenly...ooooooooooooooooo
the Universal made its way down from the 2nd floor...
ofcourse after collecting its pieces (SD card, Battery cover, Battery, SIM, Stylus)...
going up and turn it on and its working! but with the same problem (white screen with color lines)....
my friend was pissed off..so he began to hit the desk near the device and the screen re-worked again!
and the device never went to the service until now...
this happened 6 months before!
the only things that left..some scratches and the broken cover!
strong Universal

If you take a look at the Lcd screen on a universal there are connectors around the corners of the screen (probably find a pic on ebay).
My universal had a problem with a blue tint on the screen but with a squeeze near the upper left of the screen i heard a click and the problem went away.
chances are a swift bang may be resitting the connectors. you might want to try squeezing the corners either side of the screen before resulting to more extreme techniques.
Of course you could remove the covers and be sure of getting good connections

Just don't squeeze the corner too hard. I'm now looking for a new screen as I've got the dreaded 'bleeding ink' across the right-hand corner of mine.
Anyone know of a supplier of new screens?

On an old PDA, I had one of them WiFi SD card thingies.
It was so temperamental and I thought it might have been the contacts or something.
Anyway, I took the WiFi SD apart and put the bare circuit board in the slot, it kinda got stuck, but that also made funny colours come on the screen.

Hi, I also have this on mine. I had one spot, but now it have been split into two smaller spots. I'm not sure what it is, seems like some kind of liquid??. When I press my finger on it, it floats around. I'll be happy if anyone can explain what this is. Maybe my dear Trinity needs a service ?.
i sent an email to the htc support with the photo of the problem...waiting for an answer!
It looks like liquid between the digitizer and the LCD.
you need send Trinity to assistance... your lcd screen need to be changed
little bit of advice, send it via the retailer you purchased from. Not direct to HTC. Retailers (in my experience) can get a little funny if you bypass them.
but,it comes an goes randomly...for example, yesterday night it was there and from this morning until now there's nothing...
could be the magnet of htc case
you can explain better?
my english isn't good, but the clip magnet of the case have a little attraction also inside the case... so maybe a magnet a little bit more "power" **** your touchscreen... pda should put into case always with touchscreen beside magnet because battery take a good shield and you haven't problems... but in your case it's late. I think it's the magnet of case that broke your touchscreen... check if direction of touchscreen problem is the same of Clip
here the answer of the htc team:
"Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe support.
With regards to your query, it is a possible fault with the handset. I would advise that you contact your retailer. However if they are unable to assist please respond and we will assist you further."
I dont know to express right in english, but i try: If you go from a warm humid place to a cold place water in the air is condensing (!?)) on surface (like in winter on thin windows) that could explain why this happens only sometimes.

Moisture is the possible problem. I had a SonyEricsson P800 that I dropped in the lake. It had the same type of discoloration, only worse because it was IN the lake. It finally dried out and even worked but there were always little bubbles (minerals) in between the plastic touch membrane and the LCD screen. Try putting your phone in a slightly warm dry place overnight.
Ok,thank you.
This morning i have put the P3600 in a packing with 4 envelop of "silican gel",anti-moisture.... what you think about this?

probably best to stick it in the airing cupboard. That would be nice n warm.
At my work, our engineers keep getting pentablets wet (when it rains - they use them as an umbrella), I advise them to stick it in the airing cupboard, and it works a treat.
Hi guys,
I have this phone for more than a month and I have exaclty the same problem.
I went back to my retailer and when I showed the screen there was nothing !!
Yes it is definitively random.
But I am not sure this is not linked to the protection. I noticed this problem after I put the protection and even if there is still the problem when you put off the protection, it seems to disappear after a while.
So my question is : is there a guy having this issue and who has never used a protection ? And if you remove your protection, is it totally disappearing or not after a while ?
One last thing, when you have the problem have you try to remove partially the protection ? On my screen the shadow becomes bigger !!
EDIT : I Have a new case (noreve) with a magnet button at the bottom (so not on the screen) and I still have the problem
hi!
well, i start to think that there's a link with the screen protector (i have a brando ultra clear). Could be that the the screen protector with his electrostatic power attracts too much the "touch screen" creating separation from the lcd screen?
Because thinking about, there was no problem until i try to install the screen protector...we should try to uninstall the screen protector for some days, and look if the problem comes back...
This is my protection :
http://www.covertecstore.com/fr/t-s...00-t-mobile-mda-compact-screen-protector.html
I think there was two kind of protection, one ultra clear and the other ultra ....
You can do the test to remove the screen protection for few days and check if you still have the problem.

I'm testing what you said...tomorrow i will tell you what has happened...
did you try to remove che screen protection for few days???
News:
without screen protector, there isn't the problem...
so,i think there are two possible options:
1)the screen protector ,with his electrostatic power, attracts too much the "touch screen" creating a little separation from the touch screen and the lcd screen;
2)when I removed the screen protector with the scotch,i involuntarily raise the touch screen from the lcd favoring the exit of the moisture that probably had entered some time before.
What you think?Did you try to uninstall the screen protector?
Hi,
New G1 today - With the screen slid open it feels almost loose (Eg, I can wiggle the screen about backwards and forwards [NOT slide it back into device]).
I do not find this problem when the G1 is in its PDair case however this is most probably because the leather strap that goes around the top of the phone removes any slack that it seems the G1 has.
I do not really want to return the phone as this is my 3rd handset (First 2 were faulty) and would be able to cope for it if this is a known thing that many have however if this is a significant problem I'd have no option...
Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers.
My Dev phone has a fair amount of flex. I thought about trying to take it apart and tighten it up, but I think I'll let it get a little wear and tear before I go messing around with it like that. The only thing I am really worried about is if I ever drop it with the screen open which could result in it snapping all the way off, but in normal usage it isn't too terribly bad.

It's normal and due to the relatively weak construction of the sliding arm design. Basically the entire screen swings and is held in place on all axes by one thin metal arm.

Thanks for such brilliant replies - The photo inparticular is very interesting.
Only thing is reading back my description I'm not sure if I was clear.
Imagine holding the keyboard still and lifting the screen into and out of the photo... The screen has some give or flex in this axis.
Even now I'm not sure I've explained it well... Can you please confirm you understood correctly before and this behaviour is normal for a G1?
Thanks!
Basically there is no axis that the screen does not have a bit of give in, if you give enough force. Of course if the screen is just flopping around loose then that's probably a defect. But it's normal to be able to lift the screen away from the rest of the body when the screen is closed. Hopefully the next iteration will have a more robust design that attaches with atleast two points on the main body.
My above issue is when the screen is open (As in fully slid out)... I wouldn't say it is completely floppy but requires very little force to move. I don't mind if this is a design "flaw" but want to know so that I know if I need to return my G1 or not.
Thank you very much for all of your help - If you could confirm regarding my issue being when the screen is open (Fully slid out) that would be great.
Thanks again!
yea this is happening to me too, and i know its not normal bc my phones brand new and it didnt do this until the other day, and my other friends phones dont do it either
Not that this is what you want to hear....
I'd get another one.
HTC needs to get their crappy work back. I mean, I love what they do, but they don't exactly prioritize doing it well. If we keep sucking it up, they'll keep doing crappy work.
I'd say unless the screen unit is moving 1.0+ millimeters away from the casing then forget about exchanging. Some devices have looser screens than others. If your device has play in the lower left corner more than a millimeter then it is beyond the average. However, you should keep in mind that you might get a refurb in return and it could be worse or have other defects.
Hi all,
So I made this pretty embarrassing and stupid mistake. I had to take out my sd card but accidentally pushed the SIM ejector tool through the microphone hole on the top of the phone. Didn't realize it momentarily and pushed even further until I felt like I just penetrated something. Now, the microphone still works, I was able to test that using the built in sound recorder's interview mode but I'm really concerned that I may have compromised the water resistance of the device. I'd really like to hear you guys technical opinion on this. There are, unfortunately, no images I could find that show the secondary microphone.
you need to check device internal pressure if compromised or not by the hole u probably made... in other words device is sealed tight(( this method is originally used to check waterproofness without puting phone in water... ))) let's start:
open Phone app dialer
Type “*#0*#” (without the quotation marks) on the Galaxy S7 dial pad.
Once you are in the service mode screen, tap on “sensors” and check BAROMETER and do a self test --pic--

everyone has a different barometer-pressure- value so check your value... for example you have 995hPa
so to check
slightly compress the phone using your thumb and index finger by pressing on the display and back
SLIGHT PRESSURE. No Berserker mode please! This is not a crush-your-phone contest!
--> if all seals are intact the pressure value seen (exemple 995pHa)if rise by 2 to 4 values Your phone with intact seals is a closed system. If you compress the volume the pressure goes up as a result. If any of the seals is compromised pressure will not rise.
thats it
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
@Perfectdevil Holy... Thank you. I think it is compromised. Normal pressure sits around 1005.7 hPa. Pressing the screen increases the pressure to 1006.7 hPa but it quickly drops back 1005.7 hPa. Does this indicate a broken water seal?
to be extra sure download app from play store name -- BAROMETER-pressure gauge.... and check with it
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
@Perfectdevil Just did. Same thing. Pressure goes up and then slowly falls back to normal. Using the service menu, I covered the microphone hole with my finger an applied pressure, expecting it to stay at the same value. But, again, pressure decreased after a few seconds as it does without me covering the microphone hole. But using the App, pressure stays unchanged when I cover the hole.
Thing is, I have no control subject to compare it to. Would you mind sharing your results?
ok.... my normal values is 1002.3 when i press it goes to 1004-1005 and i long as I'm applying pressure on my phone it stayes at the high pressure value when i release it goes back to stock
in your case when u apply pressure don't release immediatly keep pressing if pressure go up and stayed until u release you are still intact.... if return to first value after going up while u are pressing that means you mobile is comprised
try again and report
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
Yeah, just did that. Pressure goes up only 1 - 1.3 hPa from 1005.6 to 1006.8 and falls back to 1005.6 within three seconds, even when I keep applying pressure on it. Thank you, @Perfectdevil. I really appreciate your help!
Update: Just did the Barometer Self Test. It passes the self test. Do you know what that means?
Update 2: Had the chance to do the Barometer Test on an S7. Interestingly enough, upon applying pressure, the hPa value didn't change at all. I'd love to hear more test results to compare it to.
The only thing I'd worry about isnt breaking it, is that if you poked hard enough to remove the SMD microphone from the taped location, its held there by water resistant double sided tapes.
The easiest way to fix it is to remove the back glass (buy some water resistant adhesive before hand), reseat the mic with water resistant adhesive, then put the glass back on.
I'm really confused now. Started a survey in the XDA community on G+. https://plus.google.com/+MuhammedAltin/posts/Q6DkBJBnTqv
The results are unexpected. Most people don't experience any change in pressure using the barometer test.

The barometer pressure must change if the phone is OK when you press the screen. The thing is, in my case only decimal points changes when I'm doing the test. I use my phone at pool and get it wet every week. Never had any problem.
You must use an app that is very fast at updating when it reads the barometer value.
I use this one and it makes the trick very good:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beanie.shaker
And the hpa increase and then decrease. The phone is not made to hold the pressure I believe. Remember that it is just ip68

Hello guys. I want to talk with you about screen burn on u-ultra.
Last month I realized this problem on the sides of the screen. It appears usually after 15 secons of using my phone screen ( especially when I have more white color on the screen). It took a little space on screen at the begining, but now its just getting worse , like 2cm from each sides of the screen. It appears like red (sometimes green ) color. And I only can see it when I have something on gray color on screen.
So, here is my questions, do you have screen burns too ? Most importantly, how can I fix it( Its getting worse) ? Does HTC universal guarantee includes to fix this ?
If you can help me please write it down , I will be so glad
Thank you

It's not burn-in, burn-in is permanent while this is temporary, this is first mobile i have seen facing issue like this, Nothing can be done, it's hardware related, Settings the color temperature to cold used it fix this while on nougat, but not on Oreo, some custom kernel with K-Cal support will definitely help but i don't think that'll happen.
I have same porblem on my Htc U ultra (indiea verseion).. Its bug me alot.. I will ask for screen repairment. Is that will solve my problem or the new screen will ghosting again?

Yeah, Every U Ultra will have screen burn issue. Replace screen can not fix it forever, it will happen again.
Gorilla Glass 5 still need protect like older version (sand, keys,... will scratch it like usual)
so how can fix this ??? i see the homescreen icons in transprant when screen dim by black shadow....like pulldown notification bar or power menu
I noticed the appearance of this spot on the screen Mobily .. And then emerged the problem of the screen .. What is This spot? .. No exposure to any pressure on the screen or any damage .. Is it possible to be moisture?
And what to do ? Mobily put the rice and did not succeed .. Is there a solution?

U Ultra has many display problems
1. Hot Spot or light leakage. Light visible on the side of the display especially on black patterns.
2. Image sticking. When you keep for long time same image on the display, after you change to different image, shadow of previous image is still visible. This image sticking is not permanent damage and will disappear after you keep the display On with a white image.
3. Image burning. This is a permanent damage visible on almost all images. Can have multiple root cause, but most of the cases the problem is generated by to much heat from not properly designed components inside the phone.
Conclusion:
You have to ask for a product replacement because of design and execution flaws.
Just FYI this is not a universal problem, I've had no issues with my device at all.
