[Q] Verizon S5 Wont enable LTE - Ideas? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought a barely used S5 off ebay which supposedly was working fine. Everything else seems fine except it only connects in 3G and never LTE, and I live in NYC so it's not a coverage issue. Have gone through the network settings, restore, reset, took to Verizon store and they swapped in 2 different LTE SIMS. Nothing seems to make it want to do LTE. Is there a diagnostic tool or mode for a Verizon model? Seems they have locked out the internal diagnostic screens for the Verizon phones so none of the #* menus come up. Would like to try to get this one fixed rather than return it to the seller as it is a very clean and unblemished phone, but not sure where to start. Verizon store had no idea and since it was bought 2nd hand they couldn't do anything for me. Any ideas where to begin or how to access either a software tool or internal tool to test the radio?

Regarding diagnostic screen, you can use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app or Shortcut Master app, open Menu > 'Secret Codes' and scroll down to these secret codes to launch:
- 27663368378: Service Main Menu
- 197328640: Debug Screen
- 2263: Band Selection
Note: ROOT is required to launch the secret codes. It is due to Samsung security policy.

[Q] How do I reset my RTN info?

Phone: L720T (Sprint's 'Triband' version of the S4)
Carrier: FreedomPop
I tried asking this in the L720T-specific thread but I didn't get much help; hopefully a more "general" thread will be more productive. Anyway, onto the meat and potatoes...
I bought a phone via Swappa to use with FreedomPop's BYOD program. With their "unlimited everything" service I get 1GB of 4G and then unlimited unthrottled 3G after that. I picked up a SIM card from a local Sprint store as instructed and I was off to the races. Long story short, my LTE is fantastic (30mb/s... I have a tower right on top of my apartment) but once the gig is used and I'm on 3G I only get a trickle of data at less than 50kbps. FreedomPop's offshore ESL tech support is scripted and pretty much useless as far as actual tech support goes, so I've been trying to figure things out myself for the past month and a half; I think I might have identified the issue, but I don't know how to fix it. One of FreedomPop's setup steps is to dial ##786# (to enter the RTN menu) and enter the MSL to do a reset. Obviously, none of the RTN info (like the phone number) is actually mine since I'm not the original owner of the phone.
The problem is that when I try the RTN reset the phone just does a factory reset and none of the RTN info is changed. ##72786# doesn't change it either. Every single wipe-and-reset procedure, from the settings menu to the recovery, won't touch it. I even Odin'd the correct stock firmware properly and tried various resets. Still nothing. My theory is that this is what's causing the issue with FreedomPop's service; my speedtests when connected via LTE correctly connect to servers less than 100 miles away, while my 3G connection seems to be "confused" and wants to connect to places like Houston, Tampa, Washington D.C., etc... I'm in the midwest. I think that because the phone number listed in the RTN is a (566) number and it's not in service it's causing some kind of conflict.
I was wondering if you kind folks could help me actually reset the RTN info so that I can properly setup my phone.
Also, not sure if this is related but it might be since it's a "phone not TOTALLY resetting" issue... Prior to reflashing the stock firmware, the phone was rooted (stock). I had installed xposed framework and some mods which did things like changing loading bar gfx and removing the "high volume" notification. Even after all of the resets and reflashing the stock firmware, these two changes seem to be persisting. Possibly others, but these are the only two I can identify without re-rooting and reinstalling xposed and Galaxy Tools. Not that I mind; I like the mods, but it's indicative that something's not resetting for some reason.
You are being throttled. Pretty sure there's nothing you can do about it.

Service Menu/Engineer Mode?

Hello to the community!
I need assistance getting the Service Menu to work.
I followed the S6 instructions:
Goto /efs/carrier/hiddenmenu
Change to ON
Save and reboot
Dial *#0011#
Now a menu does come up, but it's blank (see attached pic). Am I missing something? Please help!
P.S. I've tried Phone Info app, doesn't help a bit
No one ever answered this so I will. I am 99% sure the Verizon version has to be rooted to access the diagnostic menu functions. It can still perform some of the single test dial codes, but I couldn't tell you there.
I am rooted and was at the time of posting. Doesn't really matter for me now, have an S8+.
This is the code for the service menu for Verizon phones

not on galaxy J737V it dont
Not all verizon phone come with Enginnering mode on them, I have worked for Sprint as Engineer contract for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile. Verizon is in class of it own, i just pruchased two SM-G30V one came with Engineering mode on it the other no engineering mode. Verizon's Engineer or Cell Technicians actually have software to push to the phone Via USB cable. Rooting a Sprint, Tmobile, AT&T all for it makes test easy with out cables, But verizon is not worth rooting and usually has side effects that i had and had to use the verizon Software to repair. Hope this helps.

That is your opinion (which you are entitled to) and your experience. I have S7edge, Verizon, been rooted for about 2 years now with ZERO issues. I also have access to this Engineering (Service) Mode- not that I have any use for it.
If you had to use Verizon's "software repair tool" then you had a separate issue.
YMMV

yea dude was selling it as a way to unlock the phone. It works half ass, but I ended up getting sprint to UICC unlock my phone so it was a waste of money for me. my phone is unlocked now, just got to root it so can get it to show like Verizon,or what ever service I end up using. well got to flash the rom of what ever carrier I am going to use

That's terrible. Report sellers that do that.
But You can't do what your wanting to do. You can't put that phone on Verizon, it doesn't work that way. Unlocked means it will work on AT&T, T-Mobile or any other GSM carrier in the USA or outside the USA.
2. I don't think there is root for the sprint model.
3. You can't flash other carrier firmwares. You can ONLY use the firmware that's on the device. If you flash a different carriers firmware you'll brick your device..

If there's root available for your model yes. But if not then no. UICC unlock won't have anything to do with being able to root or not.

I can still root cause has not updated. already asked me2151. it will work on Verizon, had my sim card from Verizon in it and worked just fine except not showing Verizon symbol in the service corner, its a unlocked phone now, I don't think it will work on gsm cause of it being a cdma phone. I mean worst case scenario I will use on boost mobile.

Verizon doesn't officially support non Verizon devices meaning non LTE data may not work or work correctly.
It working on Verizon doesn't mean it's unlocked. Unlocking a phone relates to GSM not CDMA. Also if you use that apk your phone will work perfectly fine on AT&T or T-Mobile. Just like the Sprint G5 does.

I have that app plus my phone is sim unlocked, it was paid for in full so I had them uicc/sim unlock it. that is what I was trying to say idk if I misconstrued that.
OK first problem I want to sort on my V20 is Tethering shutting down after 20 seconds, every single time it's switched on.
I'm in the UK and have the H990ds Taiwan variant.
When trying to change APN settings some options are not there when I compare to the settings on my Z2, and some other options that are there cannot be edited.
So this thread looked hopeful but I've installed the apk from the OP link and this is what I get when I open the app -

This thread of for specifically making a US carrier device be network unlocked. This that most likely won't be of any use to your model.
That's a very strange issue. Settings with your APN won't make your hotspot shut off. You can turn on hotspot even if data is not working.
Seems more like a software issue or hardware issue.

Thanks. But so far after much googling APN settings are what everything has led me to believe is the problem. So I'm trying whatever I can.
Back to the drawing board....

Very interesting post. As mentioned, this App is unfortunately intended to be used in the states only. Should it be possible to help us switch the bands for different carriers in different countries, would it be great!
@hyelton
The problem was down to a Sony app that I inadvertently installed when setting up my V20.
Thanks for your help.

Urgent : Unlocked at&t s7 No Signal at all; sim slot/antennae fine

Hi guys,
Been into android modification since 7 years but gave up since my last 2 phones. So i got this unlocked at&t galaxy s7 in uae and it worked like charm, the network and coverage. I then started usingthe phone in pakistan too and it worked well even here. So one day i connected to gear vr so that i can initiate the oculus data installation as first time setup but the gear vr kept on disconnecting automatically. I have used it before too but never had problem. Then i rebooted the phone and i find that i have no signals at all even though my sim contacts are being displayed and there is no “no sim” message on statusbar even. But dont have any signals at all. I then inserted my sim to iphone and it was working perfect. Then i inserted different carriers sims to s7 but yet they werent working even. I then cleared the cache, factory reset, cleaned the sim slot and the sim , but no success. I left ky ohone turned off for days andeven drained battery 100% many times to calibrate and perform hardware reset but no success. I then sent the phone back to uae for repairing from my friend as i thought that the antennae were the one’s responsible but before he even thought of disassembling the ohone, he inserted uae sim and it worked perfectly. Call and data were working perfectly. Any idea what is the problem? Kindly let me know pleaseeee. Is there any problem with frequency? Like gsm or cdma? But the phone worked before. I tried to enter the settings of manually selecting networks but there was error popup “No service and signal”. Signal strength 0asu -113dvm

Settings>connections>mobile networks> apn settings or access point names
Manually enter your carriers information you'll have to ask them or look it up online sure its easy to find they might even help you in store
Its not good for you to buy these US phones outside of the US because changing CSC to INS/INU/PAK could prove to be difficult being it was never supported by snapdragon G930A model but only exynos G930F although it's not impossible
/system/csc/others.xml is where your answers are waiting for you unless you update to oreo then it'll be in /system/omc/cscfeature.xml and cscfeature_network.xml
You will need a root file manger to be able to see what I'm talking about then you will have to figure out what those "strings" mean
Unless you want to mod and figure out make your phone awesome just flash other US firmware that uses gsm network only i think ATT only uses gsm and you can root to debloat ect.
Here's a method for rooting
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-s7-s7edge-oreo-nougat-t3819616/amp/
I'm sure there's people in your surrounding area that are into androids and rooting that understand and can help you figure things out if you know any one woth a G930F/G935F INS/INU/PAK thatd be awesome. If your imei number is truly gone from your phone its should still be on the back of the phone
I know this isn't the best help but you aren't the first post I've seen of Pakistanian with US S7 tryjng to figure it out.. idk if he ever did but if you learn you can help others as well
*note: when I say change csc I don't mean flashing firmware in odin, that is impossible. I mean porting it yourself with root like in the link below this one
*another note: I am not saying use the link below as anything other than an example because again that link was developed for Eynos phones and not your snapdragon so it probably wouldn't work but just so you have an idea of csc

S10+ Cellular Connection Failure

I have a new S10+ and the phone can no longer connect to my carriers cellular network. I bought the phone directly from Samsung but put in on the TELUS (Canadian) network. It worked fine until yesterday when I noticed I had no network connection. I rebooted the phone and still no network. I took it to TELUS and they replaced the SIM card and it connected for about 10 minutes and then dropped the connection again. I tried the SIM in my old Note and it seems to work fine. I factory reset my S10+ and this did not solve the issue. Tried to submit a warranty claim to Samsung only to have their web page refuse the request, keep getting and OOPS, something went wrong message!!??
So,,, Everyone listen to this. My brand new S10+ worked for a total of 2 weeks and then wouldn't connect to any carrier network. I called Samsung and they gave me a place to take it to see if it could be repaired. I was told the phone needs a new motherboard. I said no, I need a new phone. You are not selling me a repaired phone for $1800 when it was only two weeks old. They said there was nothing I could do about and on top of that, it would take two weeks before they could repair it. I called Samsung back to discuss and was told that's the way it works, you don't get a new phone just because it doesn't work. Nice customer service SAMSUNG!!!

If you are on Sprint, this will fix it until a real fix comes:
You must disable Band 41 AND Band 25!. Enter Data Programming Mode: ##3282# Edit -> Enter MSL: 000000 -> OK -> LTE -> Band41 Enabled -> Deselect -> Band25 Enabled - Deselect then Reboot. So far seems to fix the issue. Again, you must disable both Band41 and Band25! Works like a charm Smiley Happy

Thanks for this. I sent this link to the shop that is supposed to repair my phone and they said this isn't the same issue as my phone is experiencing. I am not sure how they can say it because it sounds exactly like what my phone is doing. I did try the SIM from my work phone which is on a different carriers network and it wouldn't work either. It would connect at times, at least it would display it was connected but then you wouldn't be able to connect to anything. It even said it was connected once when we had removed the SIM???

Any idea on how to do this for US Cellular?
So this experience turned into one of the worst I have ever had with any consumer product. I tried calling Samsung to see if I could get a new phone and felt like I was talking to some kid in his basement. He had no idea what I was talking about and just kept saying Sorry, I can't do anything about that. So, I let the recommended service center handle the repair of my phone. After having my phone for a week they called and said come get it. When I got there, the tech said, and I quote "Your phone is conditionally fixed". So what does that mean?? He said they put a new motherboard in it, but they put the wrong one in. The one they put in only had 128 gig and was for the non ceramic versions. He asked me if that was ok???? I told him to fix it properly!! So my phone stayed another week with these guys and I finally got it back this past weekend. First thing I noticed was I have all this bloatware from Rogers on my phone. Big problem because I use TELUS, not Rogers, so they loaded the wrong software on my phone and I can't seem to remove it, I can hide it but not remove it. Also, about twice per day, my phone randomly reboots. I start wondering why I am not getting any calls or texts and find my phone rebooted and wants me to type my pin in to enable apps.
So, I called Samsung today to complain again, and I swear I got the same immature brat on the phone again. He told me to take it back to the service guys again. I told him I was going to buy a new phone and it wouldn't be a Samsung. I will file a claim in small claims court to recoup my money I paid for this phone ($1851 CDN).
