SD card disabled - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

Hello ladies and gentlepeoples! Well, I just got hp Slate 7 extreme Special Beats Audio edition, already preloaded with 4.4.2 and you guessed it, I can't use my 32gb microSD card }=(
I've read all over that there is a fix for it, BUUUUUUT you need Root access...which this tablet is incapable of...veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery frustrated and angry at google...
I don't think hp is going to allow this tablet to fully update to 4.4.3 Is there any way around this?

[Q] Any Canadian OTA updates at all?

Is the 3.1 OTA release for Canadian Xooms out yet? I've seen plenty of talk that it was delayed back in may, but I have not read of anyone in Canada getting it yet. These HC updates are getting to be a royal PITA on several different tablets.
Rob
Noting official yet, Only Japan then China got it, they release it in Australia with major screw-ups then pulled it, I am starting to wonder if it will ever come out, rumors of Xoom 2, Google has released 3.2 and we don't even have 3.1. as soon as I know there is a safe way I am going to install the US version, Screw Motorola, good hardware **** support, will never buy another Motorola product,
I've been running the US version since the Xoom came out in Canada.

Sounds like a plan! I'll do a full backup of course beforehand so I can restore if I want to do OTA.
Rob
I didn't get the update as of yesterday. Finally got fed up with waiting and flashes to the US version and now running 3.2. In my opinion there's nothing to keep it in the Canadian version currently.

Besides your warranty of course, i doubt anything will go wrong but just in case. If i have to wait on motorola for ICS im rooting and flashing to US firmware right away.
Tired of waiting
Spent the past few weeks perched like a hawk in the Moto thread, hoping --nay, praying-- for the 3.1 update so that the Moto bluetooth keyboard issue with stuck keys (often the backspace key!) is fixed.
Finally said the hell with it on Friday and flashed the US "Google Experience" ROM, then got 3.1 and 3.2 in succession within about a half-hour. Keyboard works, SD works, it's a bit zippier, and I even have Google Videos and Books to boot. (Although I can't actually buy anything with them yet, just get the free books and play my own videos.)
Although the fact that I need to connect to my Windows to transfer files to the SD irks me a bit (I'm a Linux user), for the most part I'm pretty happy with the switchover.

Install an app called "USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG". I use that to mount my SD card in Ubuntu. I haven't tested it for 3.2 but it should work.
edit: looks like the 3.2 tiamat kernel may not yet support it.

So you flashed the 3.01 US WiFi rom and then you got the other updates OTA? Or did you manually flash those as well?
Rob
Just to follow up, I installed the US 3.01 stock image downloaded from the Motorolla dev site.
At first I tried to do the flashing from WinXP running in a VirtualBox VM, but that did not work. So I tried again with my Win7 laptop and that went a lot better. All the software to do this is a bit time consuming to install though... 3.1 and 3.2 updates came through OTA and my Xoom is now running 3.2.
I am disappointed there is no write ability to the sd card at this time.

Samsung ATIV |Smart PC Pro - opening the case

Has anyone managed to work out how to open the case on an ATIV. I would really like to upgrade the SSD from 64Gb to something that's actually usable for this machine. Any hints gratefully received. And yes I realise my warranty will be voided.
:good:
I haven't seen it done but as an interim solution: large SD card? external hard disk?
And doesnt the smart PC pro have 256gb not 64. Its the ativ tab that had 64gb I thought.

Mine has a 128gb with the pro.XE700T1C-A01US. just updated the OS to Win8 Pro via my technet key. I was surprised that it had standard win8 installed. also installed the Media center aid on.
Loving this Unit so Much.... Ebay has my Asus infinity now.. ... I could go on and on about it.. but I won't. To answer your question I did see a link from someone that opened it up. I will try and locate it. I was wondering the same thing and would like to put a 256 micro ssd.. think that is what you will need. Don't forget to remove all the bloatware from Samsung.. runs very fast now.
Cheers
It's the ATIV Smart PC Pro (which is a tablet) and it came with a 64Gb SSD. Long term, SD card or external HD are not the answer as I need a bigger system drive. I've found the link on opening the unit now:

I've ordered a new 256Gb mSATA SSD from Crucial and will be upgrading shortly. Happy days as from my perspective this was the only short coming of this device.

How have you gotten on with the upgrade?

Are 16GB enough for you?

I'd buy a Samsung Note 2014 but in my country only 16GB is available (like many others european countries)...
Do you recommend this tablet to me also with its memory size? How much memory does it have on out of the box?
I'm a little scared about apps I could install on it.. Because also if it has microSD i know it's not possibile to install apps on microsd.. :crying:

I only had the 16gb original Note10.1, and I never had any problems with space, as I installed everything that wasnt an app onto a 64gb external SD Card.
And so I didnt think twice about getting the 16gb Note10.1(2014), cos I knew I'd end up using the same apps, and the same SD Card in fact lol.
By the way, if you're thinking of rooting, you might as well just get the 16gb one because:
1) You can install apps onto the external SD Card then anyway (least you can on other devices, I assume it would work on this one too)
and
2) At the moment the knox thing means you get no warranty, so you might as well go for the cheapest device just in case.
If you arent rooting (I'm not at the moment, until knox is sorted out) then it depends on how many apps you plan to install. I only use my tablet for drawing, writing, and reading, and browsing, and these apps dont take up huge amounts of space (the biggest space is taken up by my sketchbook pro picture files), everything else (books, comics, videos) are all on external storage.
Games are your only issue, but I only occasionally get a couple games on there, and I uninstall them when i finish with them.
Hope this has been vaguely helpful anyway!

Thanks for your answer. Isn't it possible to root with root de la vega and maintain warranty? Did you try it?

Thats only for the LTE Snapdragon version, which as far as I know isnt even for sale over here yet, and is more expensive anyway (and a waste of money but anyway).
The normal WiFi version doesnt have a proper root yet. There was a pledge to get one done, but the person who took the money only gave a basic root which trips knox, so its pretty much worthless.
I dont think people are going to put up another pledge either, unfortunatly. Bit of a shame really, if it doesnt get sorted out then this device may die a slow developmental death.
Fingers crossed though, that something may get transferred over from another device someday.
Edit: I should say "Worthless to me", as I know some people were happy with losing their warranties. Not sure why, but to each their own.
I agree with everything @nirurin has said apart from " I didnt think twice about getting the 16gb"
I was stressing on getting the 32GB and like you my country isn't selling the 32GB so in the end I decided to just live with the 16GB and tbh its the best decision I made and saved loads of money. I have about 9GB free and this is after pretty much all my major apps have been installed. I have a few movies and TV shows which are all on my 64GB external SDcard but I have no games installed on my Note yet. But I'm positive that even with games I shall have plenty of space available.
But you have to bear in mind everyone uses their tablets completely differently some people on here have nearly filled their 32GB and some (Like me) will be more than happy with 16GB - Best of luck.
I also got the 16gb. I did consider getting the 32gb from Expansy (when it was only £450) but I figured a 2 year warranty was more important. I also came from the original galaxy note 10.1 tablet and that was also a 16gb. However, I felt it was a substantial amount for me as I had a 32gb micro sd card. I just store all my videos, etc onto there. I'm not fussed about rooting in all honesty although maybe I'll consider it in the future. For me though, I'm personally happy with the amount of storage. But I guess think realistically what you'd use your tablet for and how long it would take for roms to be made for this tablet.

We paid the developer for root, with or without tripping, he earned his money. And we all paid after it was done, so everybody knew about knox counter problem.
I paid $90 for 3rd party warranty for 3 or 4 years (I'm sure I won't keep this tablet that long) and they cover rooted devices too. Not worthless for many of us.
You need to be careful as in some apps like bbc iplayer and Skygo download internally and not to the sd card.

Installing Android 8 on a Z300M?

Hello, I own an ASUS Z300M with Android 7 installed, and as ASUS hasn't updated it officially since 2017, I don't think there are going to be any new updates to this one. So, I was thinking about downloading Oreo somewhere and installing it on the tablet myself.
I know next to nothing about the technical side of android tablets, and not only do I not know how to go about finding an oreo rom and installing it on this Z300M, I don't even know if it's possible. *Is* it possible? I know that there are homebrew OSes like Lineage, but I really enjoy using the gmail app and the google play store, and I don't know if you can use that with lineage. So, I am holding out hope that I can possibly be able to install the official oreo on the tablet.
Thus far I have installed adb and used it (with cmd) to turn a micro sd card into an internal storage (I really hate that this asus tablet only came with 16gb storage, and a lot of that is filled with bloatware). That's pretty much it as far as my prowess goes. In other words I am pretty much as big of a newbie as it gets with this sort of thing. Is any of what I am wanting possible, and even more importantly, is any of it in the grasp of a novice like myself?
I'd like to know also, if you find something !
Given that the security patch is a year old, I doubt we'll see any more updates on Asus tablets. There's not a large enough user base to warrant development of an update.
I'd like to know also, if you find something !

advent tegra note 7 upgrade to 5.1?

hi , i have an advent tegra note 7 tablet ( tegranote-P1640). for some strange reason it wont even ask me to update to the lolipop. it has andriod 4.4.2 on it and it says that the system is up to date. but i see alot of guys saying that they received the 5.1 update. i think the tablet is from uk. i see that it has superu on it and i installed a root checker and it said that it was rooted. i was wondering if i could manually upgrade this to 5.1 and whats the process and where to get the rom files etc? thanks
I just got one of these. It was new in the box and being an Nvidia fan , I simply had to . I have read that Lollipop was really bad on this device . This thing has a better battery than my K1 Tablet and if I can get it up to Lollipop I can run Nvidia games on it and kinda have a shield tablet again . If anyone can help by providing TWRP and the OTA for the Advent Vega Note 7 it would be awesome !
Update :
I got this upgraded to 5.1 this evening lol . It was quite an undertaking as it's an old device now and most resources are dated. Big thanks to Root Junky ( if you are reading this ) I am going to play around with this some more , see if I can get it up to 6.0 Linenage or similar . It's a nice little tablet and a nice edition to my Nvidia collection .
Good tablet but held back by 1gb ram. If only it had 2gb ram this thing would still hold its own today

Yep , It's amazing how well built Nvidia devices where . My Shield portable is actually more impressive than my K1 Tablet even though it's not as powerful .

Hey moonhop, all of the original links to RootJunky files seem to be broken - I have an unlocked bootloader and am trying to upgrade to 5.1, but OTA updates dont seem to be working anymore, any chance you could upload the files/provide instructions please? Many thanks.
In such cases, I downloaded the firmware and installed it manually.

Wish I'd never installed 5.1 :-(
Was an ace tablet, not anymore. Have had a go at sorting it then tried factory reset. No luck, takes age to boot then again to open any app. Got hold of another tablet now & just cant be bothered to attempt to root it yet again.
In future will not update ANYTHING until I see on the forums its safe to do so.

Yeah , it's too bad that L runs so poorly on this . Nvidia is probably one of the best companies I've seen for legacy support - I'm suprised they did not resolve the issues like they did with the K1 , and portable . This tablet could be salvaged with a decent rom despite having 1 GB of ram . Today I actually started it up and nothing ran on KitKat . This tablet is easily as good as the Nexus 7 2013 - which despite it's still runs and looks beautiful!

Glad to hear you were able to recover this. I would really like to see a Linenage build for these despite the low ram as the battery is still pretty good and the Tegra chip can still handle some older games. These devices also still have pretty good speakers. Google is still supporting KitKat but the clock is ticking. So many great Nvidia builds that are starting to become obsolete, I hope some developers can revisit some of these.
Talking of needing a decent size sd card, just discovered the 64Gb one in my 'Googlyfied' Amazon Fire 9 a dead'un.... so that'll be x2 I'll need. Wonder if SanDisk will make good on its warranty?
