Ok every guide I looked at said you can easily flash something to gain root again well in order to flash anything you have to have root so it doesn't make any sense and I didn't see any guides on this or related posts and I'm running 4.2.2
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package.
What is so complicated about that?
you dont need root to flash something, you need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery.....
i swear the word root has lost all meaning these days. everyone wants it, but it seems so very few actually understand what it is.
Pretty sure you just need to fastboot flash a custom recovery, then you can flash the superuser binaries by chainsdd (Google the package), then install superuser or superSU from the market.
Not familiar with nexus 7, but this is how I rooted a galaxy nexus. There should be a sticky in your device specific forum with links to the process and files.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
I went to fastboot but when I go into recovery I get an error

Dude,
As the guides tell you, and I lined out above, you need to FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY
unless you are already rooted, then downloading ROM Manager or 'recovery manager' from the app store doesnt do any good....
you need a computer to do this in fastboot mode.
Damn I was hoping I could avoid using my friends very slow comp lol

I'm in the similar situation - I upgraded rooted 4.2.1 via modified OTA (original OTA was failing because of one apk) and now I have 4.2.2, but even though I had SuperSU which was ticked to "survival mode" (should keep the root), it apparently didn't. I don't have TWRP anymore, when I press power+vol dn I get the standard "start" screen (original recovery). Also, when I turn N7 on, it is displaying keychain that is OPEN, that means my bootloader is unlocked?
So my question(s)... my bootloader is probably unlocked? If I do the steps:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package
will I loose all data/apps? I ask because when I first rooted with toolkit, I lost all apps/data.
Also, where to find supersu.zip ? That is different to the installed SuperSU.apk, right?
Damn I can't make ADB work... I tried 2 computers.... Damn google for making this so [email protected]#[email protected]$ .... Constant problems, nothing else. Any clues? I ofcourse, tried kill-server and start-server, no matter what my device is showing offline....
Just checked with my phone (SGNII) and it is working just fine... no clue why Nexus is showing as offline..

Did you try to Uninstall/Install the Supersu in Playstore sir? Can you please do that first and Then try to go on Phone setting > More> App > Supersu >Clear cache > Disable > then enable again. If you wanna install the su binary you need to flash Either philz Recovery or any custom recovery you want in odin. then boot into recovery. (Hold and press Power+Volumeup
When trying to install supersu from Plaistow it says cannot install to the default location

Hi, i recently rooted my Nexus 4 on 4.4.3 and i am experiencing some issues :
After installing the driver, and successfully unlocked the bootloader via Fastboot, i then installed ClockworkMod 6.0.2.3,
and then installed SuperSU 0.99 and tried to upgrade the binaries with SuperSU 1.99
When launching SuperSU, it tells me that my binaries aren't up to date and that i have to re-root my Nexus manually.
What should i try next ? Thanks in advance for your help.
Setup :
Nexus 4 16GB Black
Android 4.4.3
Google supersu zip and download a newer version to your phone and flash that in your recovery. You're using a very old version

(outdated Link removed) download SuperSU here and flash the zip via CWM
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 here you can get the newest SuperSu. (Posted after problem was solved but to help anyone who will come across this post in about 534 years)

Hi, thank you for your answer.
I downloaded and flashed the SuperSU in the link you mentioned above, but that didn't make any difference. I heard SuperSU was supposed to take over on boot and ask for something, but my phone boots up just like it usually does, and when i try to open SuperSU, it tells me "there is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem". Anybody knows what's next ? I'm completely lost ahah. Thanks again everyone for your help.

How do you uninstall it ? The option doesn't show up when doing a long press on the icon, and it doesn't offer to update either (although there is an update available on the play store)

Open the app and go to settings, full unroot. Don't worry, it's not permanent, I just did it on my device to make sure and I'm rerooted.

I can't even do that : when i open it, i get "there is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem". I can only press "OK" and it closes the app right away.

Download the factory image, Google nexus 4 factory image. Download the same version you're currently on, 4.4.2 or 4.4.3?
Extract the download using 7-zip or winrar. Inside is another zip file, extract it too. In there you'll find the system.img.
In fastboot run
fastboot flash system system.img
It won't delete anything on your phone

I followed all your steps, installed SuperSU going through the recovery mode. It seemed like everything was going ok, but when i tried to open SuperSU, the same message appeared :"There is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem." and shut down right away. So, back to square one, i guess...

Man, you're having a heck of a time with this. It shouldn't be this hard. I had something similar a while back and I think I had to reflash the factory image and start all over again. not sure if you want to go that far as it will wipe the entire device

Recently, I have been trying to install 5.0.1 update, as my phone is rooted, but every time I see "adb is out of date... killing...". I have been trying many times to update using nexus root toolkit and manual way but it doesn't work. Everything else work like putting and taking files from my phone. My phone is on LRX21T, rooted and with custom recovery (TWRP). If there is no way to fix the problem, can someone give me LRX22C flashable zip to flash the update using TWRP?

You'll get rid of the message if you kill "adb.exe" using Task Manager. But to flash the factory images manually you don't really need ADB. Just power it off, boot into fastboot (hold Vol- while starting it) and follow steps C and D from this guide

Download the factory image from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images. Extract it using 7-zip or winrar. You'll find the radio.img file and a zip file. Extract the zip file too. In there is system and boot images.
Open a command window in the first folder, the one where the radio image files is. Then
fastboot flash radio radio.img. (note user the full name of the radio image file
Then open a command window in the folder the boot and system images are in. Then
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
You'll be updated to 5.0.1
