Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is some kind of trick or way to know when a newer firmware is out.
That's a good question. Besides finding out here in the forums, if there is a new official firmware will it download automagically?
One known source is www.samfirmware.com
It is not official and should be taken carefully but very useful.
There is a guy called Quattrofromagi who (we think) is a Samsung insider who posts details of new ROMs on Twitter, but if you're not experienced with flashing it's probably better to wait until one of the guys who know what they're looking at have a look and then post about it on here. A great many people got caught out with the signed bootloaders when JM6 came out because of rushing to flash from downloads from FUS or Samfirmware.
Well, if you are looking for stock ROMs or firmwares from Samsung, you can always connect via Samsung Kies to see if you have an update. But trust me its very very late/old and Kies is not really updated that often. Samsung thinks its too much work.
Samfirmware.com is more upto date with the latest official release of firmwares for each continent. However, because they are official releases they also contain the 'bootloader protection' gimmick that Samsung is pushing out. This was a headache at the start of 2011 but thanks to Chainfire and Rotohammer there is a solution to remove the bootloader lock now. Basically, they are locking down the bootloader so people can't install their own ROM unless they are from signed by Samsung and you get it from Kies. Obviously, this is due to carriers complaining (north american carriers) that people are activating the phone features of the tablet by updating their firmware to another continents' firmware, like Europe or Asia where they allow customers to make calls on their tablet.
Your best bet is to follow the forum here and look at what others are putting on. The best part is obviously, there are going to be a lot of posts about people testing the latest firmware, their experiences and how they worked out the kinks. I know it's daunting going through the posts but it can be quite informative in case you meet the same problems as others.
For your info, the best ROM right now that is stable and well tested is JMEv4 by Rotohammer.
The next ROM people are working on now is MoDaCo's kernel and ROM running ext4 filesystem because of its speed. And the overclocked 1.2Ghz kernel is also available for EURO tabs made by richardtrip to mix with any other ROM of your choice. These are currently still not stable but are working and will be ready very soon.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
Hey
I am with Vodafone Australia, recently got notified of an update... how ever have rooted my phone etc and diff firmware, so can no access it. Can anyone of vodafone tell me what it is and what are the benefits?
Cheers
I'm in the same shoe. Flashed mine already to custom rom.
Could it be the new KG firmware?? I highly doubt it thou.
Hi guys, I am with Vodafone Australia as well. I have been looking for a rooted kernel for DUKF2, but I can only see stock kernel for it. Which kernel do you use? Thank you guys, i am new for Android.
yo
just use the chainfire rooted kf2...
Before you do, goto KIES and look at what it is trying to upgrade your phone too and report back here what they are offering?
Cheers
OK, I will. The phone is updating. Will let you know. After update, I will root the phone with KF2. It is said on the Vodafone website: This update will improve its web browsing performance.
I never had any issues with web browsing before with stock, hmmm
But yeh I am running chainfire dkf2 and lighting rom now...
No big change, waiting for CM7 hopefully they bring that out soon!
Just finished update. The phone has the following status:
Baseband Version I9100DUKF
Build Number 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKF4
Gingerbread.DUKF4.
Just played with it for a while, can't see any difference as yet.
Should I now get any Rooted Kernel of KF4 to root? Any recommand Kernel I should use?
I am no expert but, I would flash over the top of that Chainfires KF4 rooted Kernel... but read up on it. thanks
Web browsing performance is better according to the voda website

Where u get the official? Leak?.. Where u found it
It may be based off Android 5.0, but it sure as hell isn't official. Sammobile does not have an Android 5.0 ROM in its database for the 9500, and the 9500 would be unlikely to receive an upgrade before the most common model, namely the 9505. This could be a leak, but even then it wouldn't be labeled as official. Official is reserved for releases, not internal test versions.
I'm sure someone will get duped into installing this, and then we can find out which ROM this actually is.
This is official leaked by Chinese operator released this version on a blog, I installed and verified.
Just flash via odin as PDA.

Please check it before calling it a dupe.
By calling it official you are duping everyone. This is a pre-release ROM, NOT an official one. Thus, the title of this thread and the name of the 7-zip file need to be changed to reflect that it is not official. That said, I can't check said ROM out, because I don't have an I9500. The screenshots look legit, but it's far too easy to fake a ROM. And we're talking the Chinese here, for whom counterfeiting phones has become an art form.
Until I see real, tangible evidence from a developer on this forum that this thing is real, I call shenanigans.

Al-Iraqi is one of the finest developer of i9500 community, if you believe developers so much.

people are downloading and using i couldnt post in i9500 b of being a new member.
I trust him more than I trust you. Your reasons for posting are irrelevant to the facts at hand, which are that your thread labels this ROM as official, when it isn't.
Remove the word "Official" from the title of this thread.

It truth. Official firmware leak (for china) and come with china bloatwares and only available in chinese, russian and korean language. Poor mahajanprashant3105
So I had an Ativ S Neo on Sprint before moving to the 1520 on ATT.
I was running 8.1 Dev Preview, and hadn't installed Sprint's update yet.
So I went and followed the instructions here: http://www.reddit.com/r/windowsphon...nt_samsung_ativ_s_neo_official_windows_phone/ today in an attempt to get the firmware update.
However Sprint doesn't allow you to download this update unless your phone is activated on their network.
So my question is: does anyone have the 8.1 update available to download so I can just flash that?

If I'm not mistaken, nobody has posted a dump of an signed 8.1 image yet for any device. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Seems legit. Just went to the user's OneDrive, he has everything for flashing the ROM. Maybe the ROM was leaked a while back, but never saw the light of day here.
Here's the OneDrive link for whoever wants to direct instead of messing with reddit.

Pretty sure that is an 8.0 ROM not an 8.1 ROM. If it's the same one that I've used in the past, after loading that ROM, I had to go through about 8 different patch cycles to get up to the latest 8.1 dev preview release.
I pointer for anyone doing this. If you were on 8.1 before this, don't sign into your live account when you do the initial image of this. Just go in as a "guest" and download all of the latest updates to the phone. Then do a reset of the phone from settings and sign in. That way you don't have to deal with tons of apps installing while you are just trying to update the phone. Makes the process _much_ faster.

Hello can someone explain a easy way to update my brand new phone BLU 5.0 C HD
im on version 4.4.2 kitkat which is old now.
blu lied about saying they would support there phones and update it to a new os
which now they said will not happen.
the phone is already rooted but not sure what is the next step i have to do
can someone explain how i can load the new Android - 5.0 Lollipop on to it
the phone is all ready rooted.
thank you
does anyone know how to get the new os onto the phone
or is this shady business selling phones that you can not updated
at this point i do not recommend ****ty blu phones
Here is a thread for a nice lollipop rom. Works best for global devices, as it does not include USA GSM bands, but there should be a post in the thread somewhere (probably by me) that tells how to fix that if you need to.
Most rom development for the studio 5.0 c hd was actually tied to its clones, wiko rainbow and micromax a120. You may be able to find some good stuff for this phone if you look up smokermanxda. I know he has posted a lot of roms to his blog, they just require you to flash the stock Wiko firmware first (non-USA).
In my opinion, more trouble than it's worth if you're in the US.
I do not recommend blu products throw away phones after a year.
total garbage
