[COMPARISON] HTC Desire 820 Vs HTC One (M8) - Desire 820 General

HTC Desire 820 Vs HTC One (M8)
Hey all
These two devices are aimed at different markets, one being a mid-range and one high, but i think its still worth comparing the HTC Desire 820 and HTC One (M8). Although the M8 has a significantly higher pixel density (5" 1080p), the Desire 820 has a larger but lower count screen (5.5" 720p) So it appears the M8 has the edge, but performance may be the key here, the Desire 820 has the first 64bit chipset, the Snapdragon 615, this chipset is less powerful than the one found in the M8 (Snapdragon 801) but will the lower screen resolution of the Desire 820 equate to similar overall performance? We also have the question over the camera, we have two very different takes, one the old school "more the better" the other HTC's newer "ultra pixel" technology, opinions? As for the exterior, the M8 will always have the edge with its premium metal, but would members take the reduced price and live with the plastic?
Feel free to comment on your thoughts, and why you would pick one over the other, but please keep posts sensible and to the point.

htc 8x available for preorder

didnt find a seperate device section for the htc 8x..so posting it here
the htc 8x is on demo at the dubai GITEX fest..and is available for pre order at 1999 aed( approx 550$)..the price for the 8s is not mentioned though.
550$ is quite a lot. You are better off getting Lumia 820 instead of this.
Anyway, I expect this to go down after the official release.
the 8x is worth the 550$ in my opinion and is almost equal to the 920 in comparison..but then i would get the lumia 920
Thats cheap, only 425EUR! Amazon (uk) preorder is currently at 500 EUR (or 645 USD) and Lumia 920 is starting at 599€ (or 770 USD) (Italy).. so yeah well worth it

yup it is..thought it was wrong but when you have htc sales reps telling you that you can preorder it there, should be true enough..surprisingly the 8s price wasnt revealed but they did suggest we leave our mobile nos for a price update on it.
If it had more mem or an sd slot the 920 could do one at that pricbut alas its only 16gb I cant tell you how much that upsets me I really wanted this phone. I wander if its worth waiting and seeing if you can open it up like older windows phones but I suspect its onboard.
Directly doing a currency conversion historically has almost never yielded you the actual retail prices (just the fact that regularly a phone has the same Dollar and Euro price is indicative of this).

yup it hasnt but its indicative of approximately how much the product could be bought for(unlocked) in most places..presently most phones cost almost the same in India and the middle east if you dont factor in the dealer discounts....

you do know that the 8x is the current high end phone from HTC while the 820 is the mid end phone from nokia???

it is high end because it is defined by HTC as high-end.
I for one, like to take a look at specs instead of just using a predefined opinion.

i would say its higher end when compared to the lumia 820..for example the rear 8.0 mp camera is better than the one in the 820, plus its got an image chip which i am sure will beat the lumia 920 in terms of operation speed..the fcc also sports a higher resolution than the one in the 820..for sound, there's an amp for better sound quality..and in terms of display, the 8x is better in pixel density and resolution...
now if you compare it to the 920, il agree the 920 trumps it in most features..i feel that lumia 920 >htc 8x >lumia 820

So what? Lumia 820 beats the HTC in other domains, like wirelress charging, design, storage space.
The two of them are pretty close together, which is why it is fair to compare the 820 with the 8x.
As i already said, the only real advantage the 8x has over 820 is the audio quality.
Others are more or less neglect-able, and some of them are double edged swords (like your pixel destiny, will increase the amount of RAM applications will eat compared to lumia 820)

wireless charging is an add on cover for the 820, while design is a personnel choice..i know alot of people who like the htc 8 series more than the lumias, storage space i agree non upgradeable is kinda not what i expected but then we should be calling the lumia 920 a fail too ...the pixel density is a major differentiator for a lot of people so is the resoultion(from what i heard the 820 display is not 720p) which can deter alot of people.
anyways all this boils down to personal choice..if i were to select between the 8x and the 820, i would go for the 8x...but if you throw in the 920, then you know my ans : 920
Lumia 820 has one serious minus point over 8X - only 800x480 resolution vs 1280x720 which is quite a staggering difference. Rest features are more or less matched with Lumia 820 triumphing heavily on exclusive apps.
Yes 8X has better camera but there's simply no beating Lumia camera settings and extras. With some setting tweaking, Lumia 820 stands a chance to beat 8X's camera. And hence, mcosmin222 is quite sensible for comparing 820 vs 8X.

I'm a big fan of the HTC One and can see myself using it for quite a while, even without seeing necessarily everything of its main upcoming contenders. It's a device which amazingly is built to the kind of specifications I'd want from a device — huge emphasis on camera, all metal construction with actively tuned antennas, and a powerful SoC inside.

yes i will. I will get a review unit in the next few weeks from htc as well so i can give you some early impressions as well
Most other retailers also mention the 15th of march. It's probably just a PR thingy for Vodafone - I don't expect them to sell many devices, it's just to create some buzz. But I'm not sure whether the info is correct as they seem to be the only ones doing it, which is strange. However, it seems that the information comes from Vodafone directly.
On a different note, I have a question regarding the speakers:
Consider being on a call, talking, when suddenly you receive an SMS with maxed out volume. Wouldn't that make your head explode as one of the speakers is directly at your ear?!?!
HTC Flagship - HTC One - Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 600 - Mega Information Thread
Just saw your post on Hamdir's thread. I will follow his thread regularly and from now I follow this too.
I will get the device as soon as it was released, thinking of my one x, whether to keep it or sell it. If the price was <700 usd, I will keep my one x. Just now OneX development is getting better and the device is so smooth after JB, so can't sell it.

I am worried about it, too... It was like that on a mobile phone I once had. However I guess HTC will use the proximity sensor to turn down the volume to a safe level.

I just hope they thought about it (this would be the perfect solution actually - just turn off the upper speaker completely).

Of course it is active on the One X. I'm not 100% sure if it is the case for SMS, as I rarely use SMS anyways, but it is certainly true for GMail.
Where's Hamdir?
Anyway I hope we will see reviews very soon,I am very curious about the stereo speakers, screen under sunlight and camera performances

Well, that's details - I'm talking about messaging tones in general, regardless of the source. It happens definitely with my One X for various types of notifications.

Then it would be suggestible to use a headset for calls. It's good for health too.
Just kidding.

HTC One M8 coming soon!

The HTC One's successor packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and 4MP Ultrapixel camera
HTC M8 specs show Snapdragon 800 chip and 4MP Ultrapixel camera
Reports emerged earlier this week of a device thought to be the HTC M8, the successor model to the HTC One (M7), clocking up an impressive 36,000 score in AnTuTu.
Further investigation by AnTuTu's creators has revealed that this is indeed the work of a Snapdragon 800 chip.
While the HTC 0P6B120 doesn't use the HTC M8 name directly, it does seem pretty likely that it is the rumoured device as it uses a software build labelled "htc_m8-userdebug|4.4|KRT160".
The HTC M8 now seems to have a pretty well-rounded spec sheet thanks to the work of AnTuTu's team.
The spec line-up includes Android 4.4 KitKat, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AB chip with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 graphics processor (GPU), 16GB of onboard storage and a 5-inch full HD 1080p display.
Also listed is a 2.1-megapixel primary camera and a 4-megapixel secondary. While no specific mention of HTC's Ultrapixel technology is made, the fact that it's rated at 4-megapixels suggests it is the very same hardware which appeared in the HTC One, which also packed optical image stabilisation (OIS).
It's a bit of a shame, as we noted in our HTC One review, the Ultrapixel tech would probably generate more impressive results were it associated with a higher megapixel rating of around 8-megapixels.
Still, HTC's implementation of the higher-rated Snapdragon chip looks to be a suitable boost all round on performance, if AnTuTu's bar charts are anything to go by.
Mysterious HTC device could be M8
The device has scored 36,532, a score to rival the LG G2 and the Sony Xperia Z1, on benchmarking software AnTuTu.
The result is higher than any other HTC-made smartphone and all we know at the moment is the model number which is HTC 0P6B120.
Blog of Mobile uploaded a screenshot of the benchmarking software result. With that kind of score its very likely the device includes a Snapdragon 800 chip meaning it must be HTC’s mightiest device.
The HTC One is now dating fast so the M8 successor must be near. Rumours still seem to point toward an early-2014 release date for the M8 and will most likely feature Android’s 4.4 KitKat OS.
@evleaks believes the M8 will have a 5-inch screen compared to the HTC One’s 4.7-inch panel.
HTC M8 Specs & Images leaked
So we already knew what HTC M8 – the successor to the HTC One – looks like. Now, thanks to @evleaks, we know more about its specs. According to them:
If they’re right, that means when HTC’s next flagship phone becomes official it’ll be the first HTC running a Snapdragon 800 chipset. But as GSMarena points out, while the specs look good now HTC could end up a “generation late”, as happened with the HTC One Max, “because Samsung is already developing its next-gen 64-bit processors for the Galaxy S5.”
Other leaked information suggests it'll launch with Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box along with HTC Sense 6.0, the next-generation of software which would be placed over the top of Android.
While this isn’t the first we’ve heard of the HTC M8 not much else is known about the handset. The one thing we can draw from it though, assuming that name is correct, is that it’ll be the direct successor to the HTC One flagship, which was dubbed the M7 while under development.
The images below appeared via Chinese leak source ePrice and only show the rear cover for the handset. It’s not clear whether the phone will sport a removable back panel like the HTC One Max or if it will be assembled as a sealed unit like the HTC One and HTC One Mini.
One confusing part of the design is a small round hole above the camera port. This can’t be the camera flash, as we can see a small flash port next to the main camera port. There’s no indication of what its purpose could be but it’s unlikely that it’s a fingerprint scanner as the HTC One Max featured a square design underneath the camera port.
Assuming that it’s not a fingerprint scanner it would appear HTC has ditched the digit scanning tech for its next flagship, which is just as well in our view as it was a bit naff on the One Max.
There’s been a lot of talk recently about eye scanners, particularly as Samsung is rumoured to be working on this kind of tech. Could this be what we’re looking at? Existing rumours suggest we could see a display between 5-inches and 5.2-inches, which would likely use HTC’s favourite SLCD technology and is thought to have a 2K resolution.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip has been fingered, which makes sense, and it’s believed HTC could pull a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 by opting for 3GB of RAM.
Quite what version of Android will be onboard is unknown but it’s either going to be 4.3 Jelly Bean or the brand new 4.4 KitKat, and it’s said there will be a new HTC Sense 6 UI overlay.
Almost as important – what the heck is it going to be called? We’ve had the HTC One, HTC One Max and HTC One Mini, but let’s not forget the old HTC One X, HTC One S, HTC One V, HTC One X+ and HTC One XL, just to take up a few more possible names. Where does that leave us? HTC Two? HTC One Plus? Your guess is as good as ours. There’s no clue as to when the HTC M8 will precisely arrive but a launch in 2014 seems a certainty.

M7 vs M8 mini

Hi,
i have an htc desire at the moment. I want to get a new one, and thought about the HTC One serie.
Yesterday i had a look at the HTC One M8, but it's too big i think. So i thought on getting the M8 mini. But it's not much cheaper than the normal m8 and has an lower camera, lower prozessor,....
So i thought what about the old One (M7).
Would you take the M7 or M8 mini??
what about the video/picture quality of the M7 are you contented with it??
without reading all of the text, buy the flagship m7 and not mini series...always better to get a flagship or go direct to m8

I would go for M7 as it is only .2 inches bigger @ 4.7 Inches vs the 4.5 Inch screen on the Mini 2 and 1080p screen with 469ppi on the M7 vs 720p screen with 326 ppi. The camera though will be very similar with both phones. The processor on the M7 is far better with 4 x Krait-300 Cores vs 4 x Cortex-A7 cores on the Mini 2. The price on Amazon for a new M7 is €465 whereas the Mini 2 costs €440, both are sold by Amazon themselves. So go for the M7 because of the better value for your money.
I would suggest the original M7 as well.
But if that's still too big, I would pick the Moto G over both mini phones.
Please no phone comparison threads

Adreno 430 vs play station 3?

Hi all.
I must say I am from android more than ios, and I tell you the truth, from the adreno 200 nexus one of google I've gone through all the adreno and snapdragon processor, now I have my new HTC one M9 which has a snapdragon 810 and graph adreno 430.
Well, my question is whether the adreno 430 gpu snapdragon 810 really is comparable or exceeds the raw power of the play station 3 to 8 years, and have been looking for information about floating point calculations, gigaflops the calls, the adreno 430 mp6 at 600 mhz 2 on the lg flex 2 gives 388 gigaflops while the play station 3 gives about 240 gigaflops ... so in theory is already outdated, but we know not all the gigaflops hehe.
Someone who knows more than I could give me a orientacion¿? It is already the adreno 430 comparable to the top consoles seven years ago as the play station 3 or xbox 360¿? is that even higher in android is difficult to see games as well as the graphical detail of the consoles, maybe in 2 years...
greetings and hope to answer

Games run very smoothly on the HTC One M9, a consequence of improving the processor while keeping the screen resolution the same as last year. The Boomsound speakers bring audio to life too, making this feel - at times - like a genuine console experience.

There's an Adreno 430 graphics processor thrown into the mix also, and 3GB of RAM rounding off the picture. The numbers speak for themselves in our benchmarks, and expectedly its 3D performance in games stands up comfortably against this year's other flagship releases.
The M9 is blessed with a fearsome arsenal of tech, but it has attracted some negative attention for generating excessive amounts of heat. It's true that when engaged in a particularly taxing activity the phone's casing becomes noticeably warm, but no more so than many of its cutting-edge rivals, and we suspect the reason it's more immediately obvious here is because the aluminium casing is channelling the heat more effectively. During our review we felt we pushed HTC's device to the limit, and it never got uncomfortably hot - something which was claimed in many early hands-on previews by other sites.
