So, I have an Omnia 7 and am really happy with it, I think it's a great phone with a great operating system, even if it is a phone that was launched in 2010, I think it is still modern and up to date.
Now, I bought a Nokia N9 and really liked the display and finishing materials so
I started thinking what could be if WP had it, then imagine what could
be Lumia 800...
Well, comparing both phones i check that:
3G Network Frequencies:
Lumia 800: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
Omnia 7: HSDPA 900 / 2100
Dimensions and Weight:
Lumia 800: 116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm, 76.1 cc 142g
Omnia 7: 122.4 x 64.2 x 11 mm 138g
Display:
Lumia 800: AMOLED 16M colors 480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches (~252 ppi pixel density)
Omnia 7: Super AMOLED 16M colors 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (~233 ppi pixel density)
Camera:
Lumia 800: 8 MP, 3264x2448 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, dual-LED flash
Omnia 7: 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
Chipset, CPU and GPU:
Lumia 800: Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon 1.4 GHz Scorpion Adreno 205
Omnia 7: Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon 1 GHz Scorpion Adreno 200
Battery:
Lumia 800: Standard battery, Li-Ion 1450 mAh (BV-5JW)
Omnia 7: Standard battery, Li-Ion 1500 mAh
Well, i got this results and what i think that:
Lumia 800 wins in 3G network, camera and Chipset,CPU and GPU
Omnia 7 wins in display and battery
What u thinks guys? Does it worth changing? If anynone could help me with good facts, i really appreciate.
Thanks!
I have had an Omnia 7 since November 2010 - It's been great but I've had terrible network troubles since the Mango update.
I'm now due an upgrade and I think I will be going for the Lumia 800.
I was going to wait for the 900 but I really don't think I'd want anything bigger than the Omnia 7 which is already borderline in terms of size for me. The 800 is gorgeous in person and feels great in the hand. Plus Nokia seem to actually care about their users.

That's obviously a matter of personal preference and hand size.
I, for example, find 4.3 the ideal screen size, and some additional bulk does not bother me. Also, 900 does not use pentile, which is a big plus for me, since i read a lot on the phone.

I've never had an issue with the pentile display and I also read a lot on mine using the kindle app for example.

Well, it's not really THAT bad, but the text DOES look noticeably clearer on the RGB screen when you compare side by side.

Nokia Apps
I have omnia 7, too, and its great. I love the amoled display with its great colors, and that is the big difference entering the nokia and the samsung.
But Nokia provides some special apps like maps, drive and (new) public transport.
This might be an advantage if you dont plan to flash or unlock ur device...

Nokia Lumia also uses amoled.
Sorry @d.a.v.o.r , i meant to say super amoled, wich is Standing against a amoled Display in the Nokia lumia 800
Sent from my OMNIA7 using Board Express
the word upgrade for me should be if you buy a lumia 900 or htc titan
i don't even consider omnia W
I've just upgraded from Omnia 7 to Lumia 800.. the 3g issue finally got to me & then Samsung said 3 weeks to fix.. so purelygadgets had one at £340 (their service is great BTW & a UK spec as well).
The Lumia is a great upgrade I think..
Improvements:
the call quality is noticeably superior
Performance (90 vs 60 on WPBench);
the battery lasts 50-100% longer;
music (over BT at least)
Build quality
Camera - especially w/flash..
Nokia apps - Nokia Drive & Creative Studio especially.
Disadvantages
No Removable battery - sufficiently worried to go & buy an auxillary battery from Amazon for £20.
The screen is pretty equal - the better black of the Lumia vs the slightly bigger Sammy.
I have none of the reported issues - loose keys , poor battery poor Bass; perhaps that's because it's been out 6 months & they've sorted out the issues.
lastly its' obvious Nokia is much more committed to WP7 & phones in general - so will keep the phone updated with new features as they roll out..
Been struggling with this question since it was out...The specs are mediocre and standard. Nothing "flagshippy" about them. The cam is both a deal-maker and deal-breaker for some.
But wondering if there is anything I am not seein there...
You don't need better specs for WP8 it will run perfectly smooth on the Lumia 920! The screen is amazing. Why should the camera be a dealbreaker? The design is very nice! You got exclusiv Lumia Apps so there's a lot more special about the 920 than only the camera.
I don't understand what you said not flagshippy? Based on what specs is your assumption.. The screen is awesome, the S4 chip is one of the best, wireless charging, good camera, free nav and so on...

I'm an Android guy, but all these posts about the Lumia 920 being a disappointment confuse the heck out of me.
I just looked up a list of all Windows Phone devices, and here's what I gather about the 920 (compared to previous WP devices):
1 GB RAM, so far WP devices have had only 512 MB RAM tops
S4 SoC, a HUGE improvement over WP SoCs because after running through the entire list of WP devices the most advanced SoC so far has been the S2 Scorpion. I cannot even begin to explain how much of a gigantic leap the S4 is over the S2.
32 GB storage. Only ONE previous WP device has had 32 GB of storage.
EVERYTHING about the display. First 4.5" display on a WP device (not to say that it is the largest, as there have been 4.7" displays, but there has never been a 4.5" display on a WP device). 1280 x 768 resolution, a HUGE leap over the 480 x 800 resolution we have seen so far on WP devices. IPS display, so far the most advanced LCD display on a WP device has been SLCD. The display is just like the SoC: an absolutely gigantic leap over what we've seen so far in WP devices.
LTE support. So far it looks like only 3 WP devices have had LTE.
2000mAh battery. Previous record was 1830mAh.
Camera: let's get down to what's important and talk about something other than MP. Yes, it's 8.7 MP is nothing new, as the Titan II had a 16 MP rear camera. But anyone who knows anything about cameras knows it's about much more than just MP count. So: F/2.0 aperture, the lowest of any smartphone (to my knowledge the only other phone with such an f-stop is the One X), a 1/3 inch sensor (which is larger than the 1/3.2 inch sensor the iPhone 4S, One X, and GS3 all have, so effectively the largest sensor other than outliers like the 808 Pureview), backside illumination, and floating lens mechanical stabilization. BSI isn't new, but few WP phones have had it, and mechanical stabilization isn't new, but based on the video of it in action on a 920 (the actual footage Nokia released, not the ad), no company has ever developed such effective mechanical stabilization. Lastly, very high megapixel counts can actually decrease image quality for small sensor sizes, so it doesn't make much sense to stuff a 16+MP camera into smartphones when they have very small sensor sizes. Higher MP counts are important only when the sensor size correspondingly increases, and the increase from 8-8.7 MP seems like a good increase for a sensor size increase from 1/3.2 inches to 1/3 inches.
I'm not going to avoid the truth: the Lumia 920 represents a huge leap in WP hardware. I see almost nothing to complain about other than the lack of expandable storage. Previous WP phones ran damn smoothly with POS single-core S2 SoCs on earlier versions of WP, and now the Lumia 920 packs a dual-core S4 SoC running WP8. Goodness, if a GS3 runs smoothly with the S4 on ICS, how much of a performance beast will the 920 be given it has the S4 and runs the much faster WP8? The display is in every way a huge improvement over what WP devices have had. HUGE. Nokia claims it's the brightest smartphone display, to go along with all the other details about it that impress me. The camera should be downright impressive. Look up actual pictures the 920 has been demonstrated to take and it is very impressive, especially in low light.
My question: if the Lumia 920 is a disappointment to you, what exact changes would make it meet your hopes? An even larger battery? An even denser display? Quad-core processor? We all know the lack of removable storage is a bummer, but what other things were you hoping for that have let you down?

WOW you went ape sh*t with this response. Need more people like you around. Keep up the work

OS is top of the line, and ram is sufficient for now. 2 GB would have been better, but if you see people with iphones running out of memory, I dont think that will happen on windows phone either.

Unlike android, windows phone does not require as much resources, because windows phone is optimized to run on standardized hardware (just like the iPhone, even though the hardware varies more on WP). You can look at android as the jack of all trades, master of none.
The amount of functionality these new windows phones can achieve is stunning. They can offer the same and much more compared to android due to their excellent hardware optimization, the awesome developing tools (present in 7.5, now they got even better), top of the line sensors and chipsets, and much, much more.
Hell, you can even play computer games on them.
It has lamborghini yellow. That trumps EVERYTHING.

Ok....Firstly, a sincere thanks. Secondly, I admit I was quick to react as, yes, you said it, a quad core, more RAM and a slighlt higher MP cam would have been better.
What I overlooked was the fact that WP DOESN'T need a monster of a hardware backing. YEs. That IS true. I have used HTC HD7 and it was as fast on the last day as it was on first. And that too on the specs it ran on at that time.
Today, to be very very honest, my RaZr does lag sometimes. It all depends, on day one of flashing a new ROM, everything is fast and snappy. But the moment it settles down a bit, slow...lag..
So...I have to admit, the Lumia IS top of the line HW with of course amazing OS.
Thanks all you guys for your replies.

Higher MP count camera: I already pointed out that more MP can actually decrease image quality for cameras with small sensors, and camera phones represent virtually the smallest sensor sizes in the camera world. Do some research and you will find out that the extra MP in phone cameras like the Titan II only result in extra noise in the image. Again, the 920 has a slightly larger sensor size than the next biggest sensor sizes in other top phones (GS3, iPhone 4S, One X), and it makes sense to slightly increase MP count from 8-8.7 MP. Image quality in the end is all that matters, and if 8.7 MP truly is the sweet spot for this camera, then by all means don't give us more MP Nokia.
More RAM: I hardly see this as a point to complain about because the majority of new phones even today still just have 1 MB RAM. Only the very newest Android phones are starting to be released with 2 GB RAM. So, the 920 is doubling the RAM WP devices have (from 512 MB to 1 GB) just like the newest Android phones are doubling from 1 GB to 2 GB. Furthermore, a lot of people are arguing quite convincingly that it's virtually impossible to tell if 2 GB RAM is actually having a noticeable impact on performance of their devices. 1 GB really is sufficient RAM even for an Android. And what's sufficient for an Android phone is overkill for a WP8 device, as much as I hate to admit that as an Android guy.
Quad-core: there are several reasons it's pointless as of right now to hope for quad-core in a WP8 device. First is the fact that very few devices, even Androids, are releasing with quad-cores. Second is the fact that the devices that are being released with quad-cores have quad-cores that aren't worth your time, such as Tegra 3 and Exynos 4412. They're both last gen Cortex-A9 processors. The only quad-core on the near horizon worth your time is the S4 Pro with Adreno 320. I'll say it again: if you really want a quad-core device, the processor you should be waiting for is the S4 Pro. And it's unreasonable to expect it right now because the ONLY phone that has been announced with it so far has been the LG Optimus G. AND on top of that the S4 Pro is expected to be in very limited supply. So it's unreasonable to expect S4 Pro on ANY device released in the next few months (save for the LG, who probably pulled more string than a puppeteer to get them), and EVEN MORE unreasonable to expect it on a WP8 device on which it would be total overkill. If you expect Nokia to give you S4 Pro on the 920 they'll say fine, you can twiddle your thumbs as the release gets pushed back to somewhere in 2013.
Edit: there's something else on top of everything else I just said. I don't know much about WP, but it's entirely possible that WP8 is specifically optimized for dual-core processors. Android's multi-core support is designed to work well with both dual-cores and quad-cores (and theoretically what's beyond), but with MS's tighter grip on the standards for hardware being produced for WP, it is definitely possible that they designed WP8 to be a beast specifically with dual-cores. There's the S4 right now, and there will soon be Cortex-A15 dual-cores coming out in the Exynos and OMAP lines, so if MS did design for dual-core the manufacturers will have a nice selection of next gen dual-cores to work with.

Excellent post, the 920 will definitely be my next phone (unless HTC produce a very special rabbit from a hat!)
I am currently using SGS III (my 7th high end droid over the years), and in all probability it will be my last android phone. Mainly because, over the years I have never found a single droid which was stable / solid performer day in/day out. The issues I faced ranges from un-explainable reboots, hang ups, slow downs/sluggishness etc. etc. So from my experience I'd say most droids have excellent hardware, but extremely crappy OS, which also have iOS's copycat UI (only inferior), but that is just my personal opinion.
To sum up android (thanks to user on another forum):
"Android suffers the Linux** disease of being really interesting for a little while, followed by tears of boredom. When all that's left to talk about is the hardware (read: almost every Android vs. Others comparison is purely hardware-focused), it's clear the OS has lost its charm."
So long and the short of it, I was thinking about going back to iPhone, but then I got my hands on Lumia 800, and having tried it for 2+ months, I think WP is the most efficient*, responsive, and stable mobile OS (I don't really use too many apps, so I don't really care about lower number in WP app store). So I will be getting either Samsung ATIV S or Nokia Lumia 920 (most likely I'll go with 920, as Nokia updates/rolles out new stuff for its phones much quicker compared to Samsung).
* Lumia 800 easily defeated my older droids ie SGS2/Sensation in performance as well.
** I am a Windows 7+Win8x64/Linux user myself.
I currently switch between an HTC One X and an HTC Titan, android has its plus points, but it can be a real pain in the arse, for example sometimes the onex will load up some medoa server thing which eats the battery in about 45 minutes, sometimes the home screen will freeze on loading, if I go too long without rebooting the whole phone slows down and becomes sluggish. No such problems with my Titan! I will be getting me a Lumia 920 as soon as they are released, the Titan will be my spare phone and the onex is going on ebay....

A lot of what you said is how I feel. Android is a lot of fun and I love flashing new ROMs on my Sensation, but it really fails to be something that performs consistently all the time. It is a strange OS that has a ton of quirks and above all else is the least efficient major mobile OS. iOS and WP don't require the same hardware Android does in order to perform well. I was absolutely shocked when I found that the top range WP devices so far have been using an outdated, single-core S2 Snapdragon processor. My Sensation, with a dual-core S3 Snapdragon, and with custom ROMs and overclocked, still lags, stutters, gets hung up trying to leave an app or switch apps, and overall is a less than pleasant experience. Meanwhile, WP devices are blazing smooth on hardware that is several notches below what even midrange Androids have.
To be fair, Jelly Bean is a really good improvement to Android and I think it has established Android as a legitimate player against the next iPhone and WP8. I have yet to try a JB ROM (we have a CM10 ROM and AOKP JB that are both beta-quality), but if it really does eliminate lag I'll be impressed, because I'm not expecting that it will be able to eliminate all the hiccups that my phone tends to have.
WP8 appeals to me as something that will work out of the box, be a steady and powerful performer, offer something different, and I like the idea of having Windows 8 on my laptop and a WP8 phone. I'm like you, I don't use very many apps at all. Give me a good calendar, browser, note app, FB/Instagram, map/nav app, mail app, music apps, news apps, office apps (which is where I would imagine WP would excel lol), and other useful things like banking apps and I'm good to go. Otherwise, my Sensation is filled with games I don't play much and aren't necessary, recovery and backup apps for flashing ROMs, random benchmarks which aren't necessary, performance apps that monitor battery and CPU and stuff that aren't necessary, and other fluff I can do without.
You guys can make that 3.
I too hold a "flagship" Droid right now. But does it lag? Sure. Do I get lost in finding what I want to in the heaps and heaps of apps...? Sure. Do I have tons of games on my SD card which I don't play? Sure.
Is my SD card clogged with more ROMs than pics of my lovely wife? Yes.
Do I spend more time flashing those ROMs than be with my loved ones? Absolutely. Do I open my "app drawer" and just forget what I came here for? Yes...YES YES!
Am I scared with the security this OS gives me for my data? Yes.
Sent from my DROID RaZr.
Lol. I'm not for sure going to switch to WP8, because I still have a bit less than a year of my contract with my Sensation, and I only have very limited actual experience with WP8. By the time march-april rolls around next year, though, there better either be a new amazing Nexus or rumors of an upcoming amazing Nexus with Key Lime Pie or else I'll probably end up with the best WP8 device T-Mobile has to offer. And realistically I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see things like quad-core processors in WP8 devices by that time, so they should be pretty amazing.

Oppo Unveils World's First 1080p Smartphone
12:00 AM - September 12, 2012 by Tuan Mai - source: Phonearena
Chinese manufacturer to release 5-inch smartphone with a whopping 441 PPI screen.
ZoomWhen you think of smartphone titans the first company that comes to mind may be Samsung or Apple. But despite their record high smartphone sales, neither company has achieved what Chinese phone company Oppo has. After releasing the world's thinnest smartphone and the world's thinnest quad core smartphone, the company is back again with the world's first 1080p smartphone.
Dubbed the Oppo Find 5, the 5-inch smartphone features a whopping 441 pixels per inch (PPI), making the iPhone's 326 PPI retina display look like an Etch A Sketch toy from the 60s. Resulting in a crisp 1920 x 1080 display, the Oppo Find 5 knocks the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2 out of the water. Even better, the Oppo Find 5 has just as much beauty on the inside as it does on the surface.
The device is going to ship with Android 4.1 on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor. To get an idea of how powerful this chip is, the APQ8064 easily beats the Exynos 4412-based Galaxy S III and Tegra 3-based Nexus 7 on a number of benchmarks. Other rumored specs include 2GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera, 16GB or 32GB of storage and a 2,500mAh battery pack.
No word on pricing or a release date just yet, but we'll keep you posted. Until then, we'll just have to hope for a global release so we can all enjoy this promising smartphone.

I`am also interested in the Huawei Ascend Quad D and it`s successsors.
Lets hope 2013 will be the start of a revived playing field and many new players joining so we can have more to choose from at reasonable prices
They used quadrant, how qualified do you think they are to say that the S4 quadcore is "Better" than the Exynos 4412???

As i`am beeing a longtime Samsung user and most of the time satiesfied, it is exciting and more important necessary that when more parties are entering with good smartphones that is good for us consumers. It might keeps the big three (Samsung, Apple and HTC) pushing the envelope and produce even better and maybe more price fiendly smartphones. So this is not only related to the S3 forum but for all android devices forums. I as a consumer want the best in quality/price related phone. That doesn`t have to be a Samsung, HTC or any other device per se.
It's harder to sue a Chinese company for patent theft so the way things are going the Chinese companies might be the only real chance to risk some future innovation.

So years of hard work by major players are not worth considering if a new mobile with a killer spec arrives? Releasing a mobile is one part, reliability and software support is another part.
If these Chinese players can do then I'm sure samsung or any other major players can do the very same
1080p sounds jaw dropping, I really doubt the performance of graphics with that resolution. Do exynos5 or adreno 320 has enough power to do so.? Considering the iPad with powervr graphics I think it might be possible.

Useless
Himan eye can't distinguish above 300 ppi.
It's an overkill.
Plus it will take an impact on battery.
Um the actual human eye can distinguish up to 1400dpi at smaller distances, don't fall for the urban myth.

High End mali will be of t-658 which can push 2560x for sure. It's suitable only for tablets . Also I don't think 300 ppi will be a restriction for human eye

Chinese stuff tends to sound good on specs but often usability is terrible....
If these specs are true, the oppo find will probably have better specs than the galaxy S4
I remember looking at the Oppo Find 3 around the time of the SGS2, it was a nice looking phone with good specs, but it was more expensive than the SGS2.

And it will cost more money then Sammy SGS3
Who knows about quality of Camera, sound, dynamic?
Will see! For now all China phones half a crap
Won't have good dev support= no good
Made in China= everything falls apart when you look at it
Simples!
The problem with the Chinese devices is that they use an annoying version of android like miui, lewa etc. If they just use AOSP with added features and theme they could blow samsung away!

Where do you think the iPhone is made and 65% of Samsung Galaxy, anything can be manufactured in China to quality standards, if the customer pays the correct cost, pushing down the cost to have it cheaper means lower quality parts.
I didn't make this video. I wanted to share it since I found that the video shows the true potential of the Xperia X series.
Display is a lot better than the normal Xperia Z5(fhd).
You will see a difference in the camera quality as well.

Credits to mobile geeks.de for making such a good comparison between Z5 and Xperia X series. :fingers-crossed:
Really looks like an exciting device. Just about the same size as the N5, but a little heavier...metal back and general Sony goodness. I love it - sold.
Would be nice if it was available sometime before 2017 though. In the US. With regular software security updates.

Source? I still believe there will be a Z6 as the 2016 sony flagship at the end of the year.
The Z5 is still very new as it's only been out for a few months right? I believe Sony stated that they will only release 1 flagship phone instead of the usual 2 per year. Also i believe the X series are being advertised as "mid-ranged" phones (Besides the Xperia X performance ofc)

I wouldn't count that as a reliable source. But if that is true then the xperia x performance is pretty much an xperia z6 in disguise.
Why would they make a Z6 if they have the XP? Lol. XP is the new flagship.
I hope the X is only around $400. I've always just wanted a mid-range phone with a high end camera. Only thing that stopped me from getting the Nexus 5X was no sd-card and my Z3 is still good.
imho sony really messed up the pricing on this ones :| 599eur for the x with a 1080p 5" screen , snapdragon 650 and 2600mah battery???? what are they thinking?
699eur for the x performance sounds a little better with the snapdragon 820 but spending 700eur to upgrade from my z2 to this is not worth it for me unless a z6 is announced with better specs my next phone probably won't be a sony :crying:

But they announced X series just as a threat to the competitions.

Sony just lost me as a customer.... x series brings nothing new, the prices are crazy and since Z series is dead that's it for me.
My next device will probably be a xiaomi mi5 pro or the lg g5. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade my z2 (still a great phone 2 years later) so i'll wait until the mi5 and g5 are released to see how the xda community reacts to them i need to be sure their bootloaders can be unlocked and custom roms are available before i consider any of them.

So a LETTER was what you chose Sony for in the first place. Wow.
The smoothness of the OS, the camera, the great Aosp support of existing devices nor even the water/dust rating with almost a decade legacy of doing this in their phones, nor even the quality audio and accessories being innovative.
Sure go a ahead and deal with the competition. Personally it would be smarter to stick with Sony getting the Z line even 6 months from now as support under warranty will still continue until all sales of that device stopped.
Where do you kids think life and products are about? Change is inevitable! Get over the letter "X" drove huge success for Sony 6yrs ago why not try to repeat that.
It's a VRRY crowded market and consolidation the screen size is smart. Making the phones interact with us as humans is genius because looking down at my phone for a total of 3hrs combined a day feels unnatural in my neck - I do body build!
I want real world performance not a spec sheet that doesn't perform!!
I just bought a Z5 full retail and I'm very happy. I'll get the Z5C as a backup especially when travelling. I'll see the upgrade to the Xperia X Performance or whatever Sony brings next year. Not going to cry over spilt milk cause they made a very conscious and rational change in their product lineup.
Grow up.

AHAH do you work at sony marketing and you got offended by my opinion? Cause your post makes no sense otherwise... When i bought my z2 almost 2 years ago it was THE top notch device. 3GB RAM, snapdragon 801, great screen, comfortable size, nice front stereo speakers, waterproof, huge battery, the best camera at the time, etc. It was very easy to justify it's flagship price and i still love the damn phone almost two years later.
Obviously i don't care about letters, naming or brands, i care about specs, functionality and price. That's were the X series fails for me because it brings nothing new to the table except slightly upgraded hardware. my biggest problem with the X series is the price range sony is placing the devices at giving it's specs, nothing else. I don't feel like an X performance is worth 700eur to upgrade from my Z2 (i would get a better cpu and camera, nothing else...i can get a z5p for less than 600eur and it still feels like a better option than the x for me).
IF you feel like it's worth it buy it, enjoy it, and stop criticizing other people opinions. I don't have a sentimental attachment to any brand so it's easy for me to choose the device that fits my needs for the best price am i not free to do that?
Honestly if i change to another brand the only thing i'll miss it's the great dev community sony has here at xda. and that doesn't include you obviously

But going by your own logic there, the Xperia X is a worthy flagship, no?
It has the fastest cpu,
It has the fastest ram
It has improved screen,
It has stereo speakers
And the improved camera.
Take it from me, I have no intention in buying X, because I have Z5p. But come IFA, the letter won't mean jack if the specs match my expectations of a flagship.
Sent from my E6853 using Tapatalk
@corallus
It has the fastest cpu --> check (x performance only)
It has the fastest ram --> only 3gb, benchmarks not available yet so not sure it'll be the fastest ram available.
It has improved screen --> maybe be improved color wise but it's smaller and the same technology.
It has stereo speakers --> check (and if i go to another brand i'll definitively miss the front stereo speakers a LOT )
And the improved camera --> somewhat, will have to see after the device is released
For a sony 2016 flagship i think it's missing usb 3.0 connectivity (deal breaker for me in 2016) , a bigger battery, 4gb of ram and at the very least 64gb of FAST internal storage. Wireless charging and an ir blaster would be an welcome bonus but not a deal breaker.
The screen size drop to 5.0" makes no sense to me either especially given the 68.1% screen-to-body ratio. 5.2 or 5.5" as in z5p would be fine.
AGAIN i'll have to reinforce I NEVER said the x series is a sh*t device (quote me if a did), i'm just stating my personal opinion that it doesn't feel like a true flagship, especially for the 700eur price.
Anyway this will be the last post i'll make on this thread. I have only stated MY opinion, i've not been aggressive/stupid and i did not make any personal attack against anyone. I don't know why some people are turning this into a personal war, and i do have better stuff to do with my time so i'm out.

Spoken like a true child.
My post makes perfect sense but I see already you're beginning to backpedal from someone whom just quoted you. I'll break it down for you.
1. only a child on forums (cliché of the last 4yrs) claims someone who doesn't agree with their opinion about a brand works for said brand (first bold quote above). Hence why I said grow up!
2. When i bought my z2 almost 2 years ago it was THE top notch device
^ I stated that sales are affecting Sony's decision here to consolidate screen size and the specs along with shipping times and the brand sub-model here. SPECIFICATIONS like Skills or knowledge means nothing. It's sales to a company that continues to be a going-concern (accounting term) to make revenues that turn into profits and when sales don't go in that regard changes are inevitable for good or for worse, get used to this regardless if you don't like or do like the device ... change is here and in perfect timing. And like skills or knowledge both mean nothing without the means and the will to act ... using them (like drawing talent in a child that doesn't wish to pursue a career in that regard, drawing or visual arts is a useless skill).
3. great screen, comfortable size, nice front stereo speakers, waterproof, huge battery
Xperia Z5 Premium boasted the best screen (at least in terms of resolution and ppi).
The LG G Pro also released in April 2014 as teh Z2 had Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g_pro_2-6052.php
having a huge battery ... means nothing if the cpu, screen, storage and ram guzzles. Battery consumption efficiency and recharging efficiency is KEY because it's all about using the device.
4. Price ... this is a HUGE concern for what you get. No disagreements here from me ... BUT I did specifically state it's about getting more sales but more profits (the key) for Sony.
3 phones all sharing 5" LCD displays and resolution
All have the same storage options - consolidating and benefiting on economies of scale.
what you get vs what you loose in bold below. I've left out the battery because nobody knows the talk-time (continuous) standby time or continuous video/music playback times between the two on a production phone BUT if it increases you may reconsider.

At the end of the day your opinions are yours to make ... just stop being so childish about it and realize you can VOTE with your hard earned cheddar! Seems you didn't get this the first time around.
Why the fight?
I agree with @ptmaniac that its a decent phone; but its targeted for mid-rangers because the price is definitely a deal-breaker for specs like that of mid-2015.
Sony has made VERY GOOD phones in the past but coming up with X series with little to no improvements - puts the deal off. (4gb RAM, AMOLED Screen, at-least Better photo Quality on your phones when you use the same sensor you distribute to others) (My Note5, costing lesser, will defeat XP on all grounds. Wait till the phone comes in market and check out the comparison people do).
I myself have been a user of Z1 Compact (A true mini flagship) for 1.5 years, but NOW Sony doesn't feel like they are giving any value-for-money devices.
+1 on the support for Sony devices on xda. Kudos to every1 on that.
Its a personal opinion in the end. You want to buy, please go ahead and enjoy
We just dont feel like spending 700 for a mid-ranger specd phone.
Don't say we when you mean you. Again its a difference of opinion and view. Not a fight. We've already worked out our views in PM. No need to investigate.
The Z5compact is also a true small form flagship device: none has the same 810 CPU with 2GB ram and 32GB internal storage! None.
Since you're talking about a 3generation old phone you haven't seen value for the dollar in almost 3yrs not sure how you're even mentioning about this product. You mention awaiting for comparison but state camera should be better? Conundrum?

no improvement - 6.44" (1080x1920 pixels)
no improvement - 12MP (2160p)
good improvement - 6GB RAM (Snapdragon 626)
slight imprvement - 5000mAh (Li-Ion)
The SOC feels like a downgrade

big improvement - NFC
Some rumors about a SD 660 chipset. Otherwise I dont know how the 626 compares to 650. Is the camera alot better I might be interested anyway. My wife can get my mi max 1 then
The camera will be a great improvement (Sony imx 378)

Yeah, if that really is the SoC with 3 year old A53-s, its a downgrade.
Keep the price at around $300 for the 128gb version and it will be a steal even with a slightly better soc and camera.
SD626 isn't as good as SD652/3 but it has best endurance. With proper optimization, it may lead this area. SD626+5000mAh is definitely much much better.
Also these guys are downgrading SOC to keep costs same. See the way Redmi Note series did.

It's not about price, it's about supply... Xiaomi is too nobady to get on the 660 wagon. Even bigger and more reputable players on the market have hard times to secure 660 from Qualcomm in quantities they need.
Yes! That's the biggest point, true.
The topper here is SD625+5000mAh phone.
The 626 will get better battery life at the expense of performance, like the Redmi Note 3 vs Note 4 Snapdragon variants. I guess most people won't be able to tell the performance difference but they can definitely tell battery life changes.
The great thing about the 650/652 is that it could be really fast if you wanted it or really efficient. The 615 and 626 don't have that ability because they don't have powerful A72 cores. The 660 would be the best but I doubt that will make it into a lot of phones as it could jeopardize flagship sales... Who needs the latest 8xx SoC when a 66x at half the price is good enough?
I have the 650 soc Max, using it as a mini tablet at home. If the Max 2 have richer duel speakers; better contrast screen and 660 soc. I will likely upgrade, otherwise the current Max is good enough.
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has been released.
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Smartphone Main Features:
Display: 6.44 Inch, 1920 x 1080
CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core
RAM + ROM: 4GB RAM + 128GB/64GB ROM
Camera: 5.0MP front camera + 12.0MP 5 element lens, f/2.0 aperture back camera
No Snapdragon 660, only 625
Battery is 5300mAh

i can't believe it, snapdragon 650 to 625 is an upgrade???
it's a huge mistake and very disappointing
also i hoped for a better LCD which is the same
Look at the bright side... No need to upgrade....

Absolutely true Buddy! Let's upgrade next year when Max3 with possibly SD770 will be out.
Beat to attract new comers to huge screen phones not for an upgrade.

Relieved to read the specs of this phone. No need to upgrade if you own a Max. On the contrary, buy one when the priced fall a bit as the Max 2 is released. It has a better SoC.
