Exynos or Snapdragon? Which is better? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hai guys,
I want to buy Samsung GALAXY Note 3. Im coming from S3 (with Exynos processor). I want to know which version is better? Exynos or Snapdragon? Samsung sellers say that Exynos is much better than Snapdragon, but from all other medias, such as internet and youtube, say Snapdragon is better. So im confused.. Please tell me the truth. Hope you will help me...
Thanks

Snapdragon
Buy the snapdragon one .
If u love custom roms and rooting stuff which I think you love ......
Otherwise you would be well off with either of them..

Thanks mate. How about the performance? Incase of laggy, or something like problems..?

Haven't had a Exynos device, but never had a problem with Snapdragon. Awesome processors.

Performance is smooth. Apps load up quick... Ram usage about 1.7 GB out of 2.3 GB even in the heavy load scenario..... Even the mighty touchwiz can't slow it down ....
Personally I have the Exynos one and I am crying because it has no custom rom...:crying:

What i've read, does Snapdragon version have some fast charging that Exynos doesn't, so you'll charge your phone a lot faster? At least my Snapdragon device really charges very fast with stock charger. Also what i've seen, Exynos development is much slower than Snapdragon on Sammy's phones / tablets.
And again, what I have read from the web, Exynos devices have had problems that Snapdragon doesnt, just can't name any of them. Lol.
[OT] Same thing with Note Pro 12.2 (which is basically Note 3 but bigger in size, or is it?). Snapdragon owners have had no problems while Exynos owners have some kind of BSOD, heating problems, screen problems and lags while gaming. [/OT]
So I'll never buy an Exynos one, but thats just me

[Q] Help Plz...........N9005(Snapdragon 800) or N9000(Exynos 5420)?

Hey guys finally the day has come when i will upgrade to a new smartphone and luckily as i am not short on budget i have decided to buy Galaxy Note 3 which i think is the best Android smartphone nowadays......the problem is that in my country both versions are available and i am not sure which version is better so thought what place would be better than XDA to ask this question......i hope you guys will help me in taking the right decision.
Btw N9000($605) is about 30 usd cheaper than N9005($635) which though doesn't matter but i thought i should share this as well with you guys.
(Both are 32 gb variants)
Regards..!!!
Just watch the N9005, trick little prick if the service provider you're using is on bands 7/17, however the 9005 is a little better hardware wise! I personally don't think you'll noticed the difference!
Go 9005.
Firstly, Exynos only excels more in graphics department and its barely any better then what Snapdragon offers. Also the SD model is more widely available & the carrier choice due to FDD-LTE, Which means better longterm rom support between the two models.
N900 has 2.66 GB of total RAM
N9005 has 2.38 GB of total RAM

n900 exynos doesn't support 4g LTE, hardware issue.
dont worry about the ram difference....they both have 3GB...its how each of the 2 versions reserves certain amounts for the gpu & other systems processes....(not sure of the EXACT things that do this....but i read it here in xda while deciding on the note 3 version myself).... but in my opinion i would suggest you go for the n9005....its a little better in terms of performance...as far as battery is concerned the snapdragon is better as my cousin owns a octa version & mine does considerably better....it has LTE & it has 4k video recording & playback support...something the octa version doesnt....so that means the n9005 is a bit more futureproof than the 9000 PLUS the n9005 has a more active developer support....
N900 is Exynos Variant which means the processor is developed by Samsung. The N9005 is Snapdragon Variant which means the processor is developed by Qualcomm. Overall I would prefer the Snapdragon 800 Variant as performance is much more excellent than Samsung's own Exynos.

The last line can be a deal breaker in favor of N9005 as it would be very difficult for me to go for the variant which has considerably less developer support.......so as of now i am leaning towards N9005!
Btw i read somewhere that Samsung might release a patch which will enable all the 8 cores on N9000......is this true can anyone please confirm this?
Most Exynos users including me are suffering from poor battery life. N9005 users seem to enjoy 9 hours of screen on time, while me and some other N900 users get 4-5 hours maximum. So I'd say go with N9005.

And i thought that due to those 4 power saving A7 cores N9000 will have the better battery life lol...........thanks mate for telling me about battery life coz this is one of the primary things which i look for when choosing a smartphone..!!!
On my personal usage I had both snapdragon and exynos and eventually end up with keeping exynos for myself and gave snapdragon to my sis as exynos felt a bit snappier overall to me but in few games snapdragon had a slight advantage but the exynos was no less in some games exynos was better, and yes battery sucks with latest firmware update was excellent before so you can expect battery to be fixed with updates and if you have LTE in your country go with snapdragon, exynos makes no sense if you got LTE in your region and better development also goes to snapdragon, also today Samsung might announce something about their exynos processor @Ces and my guess is they will release the hmp which enables all 8 cores, though nothing sure keep an eye, so decide what you need, but in terms of performance pick either of them you wouldn't regret
sorry but the HMP patch to run all 8cores have been scraped a while back...so performance wise snapdragon is better...plus i have 2 exynos variants of samsung products at home...an s4 octa & a note 3 octa....dont know the reason why...but they started to bog down after a few weeks of usage....there arent many apps installed on either device, both rooted by me & debloated & running almost the same setup as my n9005...but mine is still as snappy as it was the day i got it :/ ....the current 5410 & 20 were experiments if you ask me.... i'd say the n9005 is the nobrainer choice when buying note 3
The devil's advocate
I'm surprised No one's mentioned how hot the snapdragon version gets under stress! I've never had a handheld device get so hot! No exaggeration, I sometimes worry if I should stop what im doing to allow the phone to cool. My friends exynos note 2 doesnt even get warm. I can attest to the battery life, atm I get 10hrs screen on time which includes reading rss feeds, music and light to medium web browsing. I was always under the impression the exynos version was better on battery, but some users seem to suggest otherwise. I bought the n9005 instead of n9000 because: 1. It was cheaper in my region.
2. To use LTE.
I dont regret buying the snapdragon version, but the performance difference between the two is negligible and the heat
issue really bothers me, so i must vote for the exynos, providing that the battery life isnt noticeably worse.
oh one more thing.. 3g+ is still quite fast and 4g lte is a battery hog, though the speeds are impressive.

Go and have a [email protected] on Twitter, and you'll find something as #UnlockExynos which as assumed can be related to HMP, also if there's no HMP I wouldn't really care, I find the 5420 still great, and yeah galaxy s4 5410 that was a serious fail, I threw it out in 2 days of usage coz that 5410 processor was such a bullshi* but that isn't the case with 5420 but still it's own preference and way to think which is good or bad.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_and_note_3_wont_get_true_octacore_update-news-6908.php there mate....that unlockexynos thing that you speak of is probably the processor teaser for S5 which could be 64bit processor.....& S4 octa processor is the absolute pits.....the note 3's octa is a slight improvement...but i would still say the snapdragon is a better overall package....& thus a slightly better choice

Should I get this Note 4?

I want a Exynos version of note 4, snapdragon 805 was kind of a disappointment.

This is on eBay right now, should I get it?
Questions:
1, Will there be a English option?
2, Will the phone be any different from the USA version?
3, If Android L come out, can I update it directly from the phone, or I have to do it manually?
4, Would I get 4g on Simple Mobile?(Simple Mobile is basically like T-mobile, they use T-mobile tower)
5, Do you recommend buying a Korean version?

Well, is octa-core and 64 bit.
Saw a benchmark test between those two, exynos score a little higher.

It's really never octal-core or 64bit. It mostly runs in quad core "mode" and is never in 64bit. Yes, it's capable of 64bit, but think of it like installing the 32bit version of windows on a 64bit machine. It's useless. Benchmarks don't matter. The exynos version is optimized for benchmarks, so it scores high in them, but is actually slower in real world use. Get the snapdragon.
From the benchmarks I saw, some of the exynos tests come up slower than Note3, some are faster than snapdragon note4, but IMO the biggest advantage could be 64 bit mode on Exynos. On the other hand who knows how is this 64bit Android going to work and when? Also make sure that radio is compatible with frequncies used in your area, what good is the phone if you get stuck on edge or have trouble making calls because half of the frequencies are missing? When I bought galaxy s3 couple years ago, it supposed to have LTE, but later it came out it didn't, there might be some similar surprises with Note 4 in the future as well.

Such dumb replies. The S805 is great already.
Kitkat is not 64bit capable so its not using this feature now. Android L will be.

First of all, You shouldn't tell opinions as True Statements...
Have you ever had any phone to compare by yourself ???
Samsung sttoped "cheating" in benchmarks since the Note 3, and it was mostly done in the QUALCOMM VERSION.

I never said they cheated anything. Its just optimized for benchmarks so people think its faster than it is (runs all 8 cores at one, but never does that in real use). I have used it BTW. I have a galaxy tab with an exynos processor that lags a lot pushing a 1440p display...same as the note 4. I tried a snapdragon one out in best buy and it didn't lag at all.
It is a true statement. That's like saying a Ferrari being faster than a civic is an opinion.

It is not, Samsung doesn't change at all their CPU from the "stock" ARM desings. So it is a pure Cortex AX. They don't this kind of things, Anandtech searched for that.
The Exynos 5420 has a weaker GPU compared to Snapdragon 800mso it normal. But don't say that the Note 4 lags as well becausw your tablet lags...

I said it would be slower, not lag. This is based on 3 generations of Samsung processors before. If they finally changed it to actually be competitive, good for them.
All of my other points are fully valid though.

Well I had good speriences with Exynos SOCs.
And my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 with a Snapdragon 800 lags either.

Going to buy it, need clarification

I am going to buy Note 4 soon but before I make final decision I must to know:
Camera in both versions - Exynos and Snapdragon are the same, right?
Battery life is marginally better on Exynos, right?
Exynos means less community support - example problem of getting CyanogenMod. But does it mean I cannot install any other ROM? Or I can't only those without TouchWiz? To be honest I always install ROMS based on TouchWiz, those without, example Cyanogen are crap for me.

Exynos better because of
1- the Wolfson DAC built-in a dedicated audio chip that makes a huge difference in audio output and it's compatible with iRig devices if you want to record instruments on your Note and it's the first and the only Android phone that supports it.
2- 64-bit capability the 5433 has Arm cortex A53/A57 cores so that is pretty damn better than the old a15/a17 (I think) Don't forget that the Exynos is built on the "new" 20nm process that is very powerful and power efficient.
3-If you care about benchmarks the Exynos destroy the SD 805 44000 vs 55000 on geekbench
That's from a personal experience I own a Exynos-powered Note 4 and I'm in love with it!

If you want to use the Gear VR - only Snapdragon runs smooth because of the better GPU
Not my oppinion but an official statement
go for exynos..this time snapdragon batter life is not good and exnos is good all the way even in benchmark
Unfortunately in States we dont have much choice. Only Snapdragon phones fully support available LTE bands.

Not an easy answer sadly.
If your a rom flasher go with the snapdragon as it seems to be easier to work with in that way and there are more Roms. I guess it's more of a known quantity in the 805 and a good solid common cpu. Likely the most popular cpu is the 805.
Exynos from what I've seen has better benchmark scores (I have C variant and have been close to 60k) better ram performance and 8 core so that can help. Also the Exynos cpu has the possibility to unlock 64bit, far as I know this will never be possible on the sd805.
Exynos also has incoming CM12.1 which should open up the rom gates to all AOSP and help catch up the snapdragon versions in that area.
I'm gonna say go for the Exynos it has a lot of potential and overall performance very solid.
But I'm a bit biased as I own that device.
Hope that helps you bro

910F , better ROMs, better compatibility and more widely used.
The exynos may have its advantages on paper but in real usage its down to what you can use and how it feels.
If it were me I'd get what I'd already have which is the 910F.
If I were buying a new phone now. It'd probably be the HTC M9.

It's not that the Snapdragon 805 doesn't perform as well as the Exynos 5433 SOC. They both are excellent performing SOCs. It's just that the Snapdragon 805 has a bad habit of overheating very easily, which is a common problem among Qualcomm's Snapdragon series of SOCs.

I've been happily using the Snapdragon 805 variant since launch week and it runs just fine. Battery is great, I get around 6.5h SOT if I do try push it (usually going to bed by the time it hits 4h).
Both variants are great, and you should have a similar experience on both on Android 6.0.1.

OK thanks guys but is real that adreno is better than mali gpu in gaming? Does the exynos lag with heavy games? And what about rom support? Do u think the exynos will ever get a stable nougat with working fingerprint and irblaster?

Exynos plays games like iPhone. See YouTube videos of Real Racing 3 & Nova 3 on N4 Exynos, N4 Spapdragon and then iPhone 6s.
That'll show you the difference right there.
My Exynos is super smooth and does not overheat ever + gets 7 hour screen on time
What more can you ask for?

The Mali T-760MP6 is a excellent GPU and will run any game you throw it's way like nothing. While the Adreno maybe slightly better. The Mali T-760 isn't a slouch in the gaming department either. I use my N910C for gaming all the time and I can literally play any game I want on it. Even République, which is quite a heavy 3D intensive game and my N910C runs it like it was nothing!

ROM Support seems good.
Check out the Exynos Development Section
Snapdragon for gaming, media, and vr. Exynos for multitasking and background processing. From what I've read, both are fairly comparable but exynos may have better chance of seeing nougat update since it's more widely used internationally.
Actually, I have used both of them.
The Exynos wins, at least in terms of a battery life (+30 min of SoT compared to the SnapDragon) and earbuds sound quality. Moreover, it heats up less than the Snap.
the n910c seems to be better in every aspect
Guys I had the snapdragon variant and I just got the exynos model now... Huge difference! The exynos hands down wins! By far better...
Sent from my SM-N910C using XDA-Developers mobile app
Lol I have 2 phone right now i i say that exinos in way back after snapdragon. Snap is better in every way. More powerfull cpu, ram., all test win snapdragon
Actually if you care about performance, go with snapdragon, but if you use it as daily phone and you concern about battery life, heating problem then exynos. BTW, exynos on galaxy note 4 has 64 bit processor, which means, it is a newer version of processor!!
