I own the BlueAnt Z9. I had a Cardo before that which didn't last long as I didn't really like it.
Both of these headsets advertise noise-cancellation.
I have noticed when I am outside on a slightly windy day (caveat: I do live in Chicago ), it is very difficult to use my BT.
Microsoft Voice Command won't even hear my commands at all and so I can't dial a call (this is not an issue with MSVC, for as soon as I step inside and there is no wind, it picks up just fine).
My callers complain that I am very hard to hear (even with noise cancellation set to max).
It is hard to hear my callers (i know this is partly due to the Z9's headset which doesn't fit too deep into the ear canal and this is the last of my concerns).
Am I expecting too much here? Shouldn't these noise-cancellation headsets be able to ignore the ambient whooshing of wind? Again, I'm not standing in a hurricane...just an average Chicago day.
I need to set my expectations. I obviously don't expect to be able to have a conversation at Wrigley Field...I can barely hear my cellphone there... but what are the current limits one can expect from these newer headsets?
I have read mixed reviews between the Z9 and the Jawbone, and don't really expect the Jawbone is going to be significantly better.... so in total, can someone give some examples of the upper limits that I might expect from these things?
thanks

Noise and Wind are 2 totaly different things and as far as Im aware noise cancellation on any headset will not filter out Wind.
From my understanding of the Z9 is it uses 1 mic to capture your voice and the other is used to capture the background noise and then overlays both signals to remove your voice and sends that signal only. Now if the wind is hitting both mics then the Z9 will not be able to tell what it should be filtering out and what it shouldnt be.

Thanks for your input. If this is the case, is anyone aware of any headsets that offer better "wind" cancellation. I was under the impression that the Jawbone and Z9 were the top headsets out there right now...but maybe there is something better.
Of course my first goal is to have everything work like I want... but short of that I wanted to ensure that my experience it typical of other user's experiences.
A Z9i is forthcoming...sometime in May. http://www.myblueant.com/z9i_black_headset.htm
I have a new Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo (European). When I started using it with my Bose QuietComfort headphones, there is a considerable amount of noise when the noise cancelling function is turned on. On my unit, it is not a constant static noise, but varying. It can be noted clearly by just turning the volume up/down with the headphones plugged in and noise cancelling turned on. You hear the "beep" confirmation of volume changed, and then a couple of seconds of varying static, like that heard from an old style LP player when there is dust on the needle or the track is damaged.
I have tried with another pair of the same headphones, and noise cancelling headphones from PSB and an active conferance room speaker from Sehnheiser. In all of these units there is considerable noise. Tried on various people, all hear it, and depending on the person they categorize it as "unbearable" to "minor". I tried to live with it, but when music volume is low, the noise is really audible.
I also tried the headphones on various other phones, Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Nexus 5X, Sony. No problem found on any other phone.
I tried the headphones on two other individuals of Galaxy S5 Neo. The variable, really bad static noise was not present, but there was clearly a louder background noise, constant, than on other phones. The audio works fine on all passive headphones, like the ones included with the phone and several others. Including the Bose QC25 when noise cancelling is turned off. My phone has been on repair twice with no improvement.
Does anyone else notice noise/static problems using "active" headphones, like noise cancelling headphones with the Galaxy S5 neo?
I have exactly the same problem when I connect the s5 neo with my sennheisser HD 598. When I connect my old S3 I never had a problem. It's really a big annoyance.
That is strange, that model does not seem to have any active amplifying. Does not seem to be exactly the same problem, although the symptoms are the same.
Regarding my problem I just want to say that after sending it in for repair three times, the third time they changed the right part, and now it works like a charm! They changed something called "A/S ASSY-PBA- MAIN".
got the same problem here ...
no problem on simple sony headphones, but amplified audio in car and at home stereo has pretty bad static background noises.
so it looks like there is an answer already ...
ASSY-PBA-MAIN seems to be the whole motherboard of the S5...
I have exactly the same issue with my S5 Neo and Quiet Comfort headphones. In fact with low volume tracks the static can ruin the music. I also get a LOT of interference when I hook it up to my Roland amplifier.
I am very disappointed with this as my phone is my primary source of music. Now I guess I'm stuck with this for the next couple of years.
what about warranty? I am just waiting for the right time, then I am gonna send it in / let it be replaced.
(at least there is a 48hrs promise to exchange the phone be O2 here in Germany
Called O2 Business Hotline - tomorrow i get an exchange mobile (new or "as new") - let´s see if its gonna work
yep - new mobile is here - static and crackling noise is gone -
I contacted Samsung support and they sent me back a standard reply - disable WiFi and GPS, perform factory reset etc....
I (reluctantly) did all of that and it made no difference. So just mailed them back to ask for a replacement. I'll be interested to see their response. I bought the phone from a Pixmania seller, so going down that route for a replacement could be time consuming and painful.

Well after months of dealing with Samsung, two trips to their support centre, endless calls and emails, I've been told that the Samsung S5 Neo only guarantees compatibility with Samsung products! Honestly, that's their line. Even though they heard the static and acknowledged it, even though they used the same headphones with another S5 in store, and didn't get static, their line is that their warranty only holds up for Samsung branded headphones. I spoke to managers in the Samsung support centre by phone - they gave me this same line.
So all you audiophiles out there, forget your Sennheiser and Bose headphones and get yourself a set of Samsung earbuds......... or maybe just go for a decent phone with a guarantee which is worth the paper it's written on.

Hey Jymbo,
you could try one more round of complaints .... but this time you tell them that the static noise can be heard whenever you connect your phone to any amplified stereo ... i think they may have a hard time arguing, that the hifi system must be a samsung one ... it is not about compability with highly sophisticated headphones, it´s about a multimedia tool, that has a non-working audio line out and it doesn´t matter which amplifier you take, it just gives out static noise on any amplifier ...

Thanks, hainfelder, yes - I may try that - I have a Samsung TV so I may also try connecting to the audio inputs on it as well to prove the point. But I have to say they are wearing me down! Tempted to just sell it on ebay and buy a HTC! One way or another I won't be buying Samsung again. They may have raised their profile in the field of mobile and TV but they are still bargain-bucket when it comes to after sales support.

that´s what they are trying to. Don´t let them. If you get the same problem with the Samsung TV, then they are toasted.
btw: there is a thanks! button, if you would like to thank in this forum. You can find it on any post.
I noticed that when making phone calls, when people talk, background noises become loud.
I have done tests using LePro3/iPhone, and LePro3/LePro3, iPhone/iPhone and LePro3/LePro3(CDLA).
The LePro3/LePro3 pair gave me the worse experience, loud background noise.
Tests from iPhone/iPhone and LePro3/LePro3(CDLA) returned very high quality voice calls.
I guess it could be some issues with mic/speak of the phone itself, could be hardware or just software problem.
Anyone of you has the same feeling?
i got electric noises on the back, just get used to it
i have similar issues on both the Pro3 and S3. odd mic issues that are super exacerbated when doing video calls on hangouts or duo
I just got a new X compact, I am extremely happy with it overall (especially with its responsiveness) except for call quality (which is one of the main function of a phone!). All the firmware and software are updated, its running Android 7.1.1
When I tried to make calls I can hear static noises and the other party couldn't hear me at first telling me the line sounds bad. This was with 2 different person in the same day at different time and different locations. Is this a known issue with X compact? Is there a way to solve this or am I stuck with it? Is my phone faulty?
I am in Australia btw, imported it from UK but it shouldn't be an issue as it supports the LTE band of my provider.
This is not normal. It's possible that your device is faulty. People should ear your voice cleary and you should also ear them clearly. Only complain some people are saying is about the volume. Even at max volume, it can be hard to ear in a loud area but I didn't notice that myself either.
Hi,
People on the other end of the line always 'complain' about background noise on my side. Even the slightest noise in the room can be heard over the phone.
When I make a call on a train station the background noise is also very loud. I'm not used to these complaints with previous phones. My old Nexus 5 for example never recorded background noise or at least filtered it out perfectly. What is your experience? And is there anything I can do to improve noise cancellation?
