[Q] The touch screen goes crazy and lag - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a G2 LG D805.
I notice that sometimes the notification bar operated without being tagged, and after a while the screen does not react; I have to fix that lock and unlock the screen.
I upgraded to Kitkat and ROM changed him, to no avail.
I can not be so, is there any solution to this? Thank you

I don't want to sound pessimist, but I think that what you are seeing is a common LG G2 touchscreen defect.
Some of the problems reported are:
1. Ghost touches
2. Over-sensitive touchscreens
3. Some specific area of the touchscreen does not respond to touch. Most commonly close to the top of the screen.
Unfortunately LG has not addressed these issues at all and there seems to be no permanent fix to any of those symptoms.
Some people have managed to fix some of the above with certain ROM/Kernel combinations, some have gone great lengths to even replace the whole screen/digitizer assembly only to find the problem returning after a few weeks or months.
I just read on Reddit that some user is on his 7th LG G2, so it's not just a "bad batch" with problems but a very common one.
I am experiencing the sudden touchscreen malfunction on the top part of the screen.
Good luck!

Thank you

i have gone through 2 digitizer assemblys and the problem still occurs.

Mine developed the bad touch area and phantom touches. The jerk at the local Verizon store told me he talked with "an expert" and that I had dropped my phone, after he told me it was a known problem. Told me to file a claim on insurance, which they turned down. Called Verizon's toll free number and lady was upset on how I had been treated and promptly overnighted me a replacement.

did you find any solution?
same problem with my lg g2 d802

[Q] Portion of Touchscreen not responding

Has anyone had an issue like this? My LG G2 on Sprint has lost touch sensitivity on a bar for about... 12% of the screen? It starts about a fifth of the way down the screen. Knock on no longer works, and I can't hit certain buttons (like install in the play store) in default orientation. I'm not sure why this happened, as I haven't dropped it or gotten it wet. I've turned it off and on several times since it started and I am going to try doing a hard reset next. I first noticed that my knock on wasn't working, then I went to play a little bit of bejeweled and realized I couldn't touch a certain row. I am very sad right now
Just a little bump, looking for some help.
yep same thing happened to me on my first G2. VS980. Now i'm on my second. just send it in for a warranty repair man.
According to vzw it's a common issue. On my 3rd G2 now, both previous devices had the same issue. Infurating.

Alright, thanks. Hopefully sprint will be of some help to me.... I doubt it though.
Same problem I had on my Verizon version. Send it in for warranty.
I have the same problem with mine. Should I contact LG directly or go talk to someone at the Verizon store?
Contact lg directly for repair under warranty so that you won't be sent a refurb device.
Yep, Sprint is no help, so I need to send it to LG. Now I just need to figure out what to do for a phone in the mean time.
Sprint sucks!! I have had my g2 replaced 3 times since January!! Or is it LG?? SO ANNOYED

I have same experience with my Sprint G2 LS980.
On receiving my G2 i noticed i had issues pulling the notification shade but i realised the problem clearly with first time play store setup. "install/update" button was not working as it was in that unresponsive area. I had not dropped it or anything and handset was received defective, but many people have reported sudden appearance of issue after some usage too. Cloudy also has mentioned it.
This does not seem to be a rare problem and has been reported by many. Got the set replaced from my ebay vender who was kind enough to change it.
Try to get replacement from your vendor. Else get the digitizer and main board changed in aftermarket shops. screen replacement only does not seem to be permanent fix for this.
Cheers

Phone went nuts! Only long-pressing touches on my G2!

For a few weeks my G2 was showing some very weird touchscreen issues, like ghost touches and dead spots where touching wouldn't do any good. Although the former problem seems to have been gone, the latter looks kinda permanent. But yesterday another problem showed up: my cellphone will only recognize touches if I long-press the screen for like three seconds. Eventually if I'm typing some password the touchscreen will work as well as ever but only for a short time, then I'll have to press the screen for three seconds for every touch I want to be registered by the device. Anyone has had this before or heard about this? Is there a fix? I looked at lots of threads before and none of them seemed to sympathize with my issues.
It looks hardware failure. My advise would be try and go into service menu and then settings and update touch firmware. You never know it might work

That was my first bet. It didn't help much.
I had the same problem and it comes back with random conditions. I had the digitizer replaced (not the complete LCD panel) which had my problem fixed for almost six seven months until the problem showed up again but the dead zone moved Much lower than before. I have not gone for LCD replacement because i don't know if it will fix my problem. There are numerous threads here. Go try them Maybe they will work out for you.

advice on lg v20 screen burn in

hello, i have a LG V20 (H910) and i owned it for around a couple of months before this happened. my phone randomly over heated, rebooted itself and then the screen turned colours; eventually, the screen lost it's functionality. all the buttons and such work, and registers very few taps; however, a while back, i went to a shop to have it inspected. the shopkeeper said it needed a screen and i had to pay upfront + useless information; albeit, with no proper 'inspection'. i think it's screen retention. it ghosts very badly, and gets a bit hot to the touch. at this point, the screen is completely useless.
can i get any recommendations on how to fix this, or replacement ideas?
and an explanation would be appreciated as well,
thank you

Are you using a kennel with kcal support? Also have you considered changing the thermal paste? Couple of posts here about it.
It sounds like your issue is not the same as I have seen, but both V10 and the V20 have this curious "faux screen burn in/image retention" issue. I say "faux" because the particular issue I have seen can't be burn in. Burn in is permanent, it's literally an image burned into the effected pixels. But the issue with LG's is that there is an "after-image", often of icons on the notification bar, and it actually will change, fade away, or just be there for a while only to just suddenly disappear. I really don't know what could cause this, it happens often on my current V20, but also randomly and with no apparent reason or cause.
FYI some people have said this worked for them to fix the above-mentioned issue, but it requires root. I have not personally tried it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/lg-v20-screen-burn-fixed-t3661631

LG G6 random screen flickering on top 3mm stripe

Hi All,
I've just bought a brand new LG G6 yesterday, and in the first 2 minutes a random, rainbowish 3mm stripe just started flickering on the top of the screen. The issue seems to be fully random, I could not identify the trigger nor reacts to phisycal strain. I also ran a quick LCD check which did not show any visible defects of the LCD panel.
Video about the issue: please search for "LG G6 random screen flickering issue" (since I am not allowed to post links yet)
Is this an already identified (or even solved) issue or is fully unique and I shall send it back immediately for replacement?
Thanks in advance for any help.

No, YOU ARE SPECIAL Get the replacement.

Screen responds to 'touches' you didn't actually make - like, there is a ghost touching your screen
oh, well i dont know how to fix that sorry. But maybe you touched the edge of the screen accidentally?
i have the same problem for about a week now! did you find any fixes?
me too
Me to. I have tried every possible solution. Eventually whole screen has been replaced on warranty.
No guys i dont find any solution. And now? How we can resolve it?

replacing the display is the only solution
i have the same problem, ghost touches in the upper side, near clock.. specially when phone is hot or i press the top of the phone
Im so angry ??? bc we have this phone not usable!!
It's a hardware failure. Faulty display. If you suffer from "ghost touches" you should back up the data you want to keep, and return your Device to where you have bought it from as it might still fall under warranty (depends op what the cause is, and where you live). This can also get worse over time making the screen partially unusable (which was in my case). contact the seller, or contact customer service from Xiaomi.
I suffered ghost touches at the beginning of December (owned the Device for at least a month). Tried every software options i found around internet that could resolve it, but it was to no avail. I proceeded to unlocking the bootloader, install TWRP, flash a custom rom... For a couple of days i was fine. After those few days the top part of the screen (the part with the status bar) rendered unusable, on custom rom and stock miui. Tested it and it seemed that the area increased and also decreased from now and then, which is strange. After contacting my seller they agreed on sending it back including screenshot and the tests i ran. 1 day after they received my device they contacted me to say that it cannot be fixed (or at least they didn't seem to bother as the phone's pricerange is low) and i am receiving a complete new one (this was in the weekend btw). After that weekend on monday i received the new one and it's running better then ever, even the fingerprint is much faster.
Now just as a warning, I don't say you still have warranty. i live in the Netherlands where unlocking, rooting and all that does not void warranty, and returning a product is very easy to do. But in other parts of the world the companies can screw you over so you'll have to check that.
For those who are asking what is it, juste have a look at mine in dev mode to show the touch : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZApYI9otJI
This happens to me only when I'm charging the phone, still annoying, , I think it's something to do with the voltage and could be fixed with a software update.
