[Q] Manually insert paths or locations into maps - Java for Android App Development

Hi !
How can I manually insert paths or locations into maps for example Google maps or some other source maps. Which API can be used for this purpose.? And how can it be implemented while there is no internet access means how can these maps be accessed in offline mode.?
Your suggestions will be heartily appreciated.
Best Regards
Shah Rukh Khan

Hi,
I dont know for the offline mode, but for online you have the Gmap API for android. its very simple to use and there is documeentation with samples.
With it, you can easily put a marker on the map etc...

gps city walk application with movies and photos

Hi,
Probably this is a bit off topic but I have no idea where else to post it.
( so if you have suggestions)
Ok, I'm looking for an windows mobile application that can help me with making a city walk that must be viewable by regular computers and most recent mobiles.
So e.g. a camera application that add gps coordinates to the photo , a gps application with which I can add photo's and movies to the route ...
The complete system must in the end be able to interact with google maps. I understand that there will be a lot of extra programming work but I'm now busy with a first orientation . Anybody has any idea's ??

nokia maps equivalent?

Guys I'm looking for a Nokia Maps equivalent for my XperiaX1.
I need something simple, don't need voice guidance, I just need to see where I am on a roadmap. I also need the ability to trace and store a route.
I also need the ability to add maps for different countries, via a PC based map management program.
All this stuff is free and easy to use on my NokiaE90, but finding something as good for WM is proving tricky.
What solutions would you guys advise?
And of course I don't mind paying for the right commercial solution.
Martyn.
--- forgot to add that I need maps stored on card, not downloaded over air because I often have no data connection. So google maps isn't suitable ------
Well
Have you tried Google maps? It does all you need and uses GPS too. I always preferred it to Nokia Maps. Failing that, there are several commercial solutions ranging from TomTom to Route 66, Navigon, then there is Wayfinder which I believe is shipped with the Xperia? (I saw it written on the CD, but couldn't seem to find the software)
Thanks alias_neo.
Google maps won't work for me because I often don't have data connection.
Wayfinder trial did come with the X1, but the Wayfinder maploader destroyed my Vista installation, a known issue I think.
I tried GarminXT but there seems to be no easy maploader solution for getting alternative maps onto the card.
So still looking......
Haven't tried Garmin myself, but as long as I was thinking of doing it, I'll take your experience as an starting point, however, have you tried Ozi_Explorer?
It cannot make a lot of things, but, many people use it for geocatching, hiking, biking, etc.
Also, has a very neat ability, you can use any graphic file as a map (certain files types only), all you have to do is "calibrate" it, plus is compatible also with several vector file maps.
I know that there are several free programs that do the thing yo're looking for, I use to have at least one, I'll try to look for them -no promises here-.

[GPS] Best Maps software for the HD2 ?

What is the best maps software available for the HTC HD2 ?
I know the google maps is really good, but one thing I dislike about is that it doesnt have a built in compass.
Nokia maps had a built in compass that rotates according to your position. ( the whole map rotates as well showing what direction you're facing)
Is there such program for the HTC ?
the new google maps support the built-in compass. It doesn't rotate or change the orientation of the map, but it gives you an arrow of which direction your car is heading.
Do I need to download that google maps or is it in the version that came with the HTC ? (going to check that now)
---EDIT
Nope its not in my current version, where can I get the new one ?
---EDIT
Okay I followed : http://www.google.com/gmm
Ill see if that downloads the newest version
---EDIT
It seems I have 3.2.1 .. the newest version stated by that site is 3.3.1
Maybe that will work
Thanks for pointing out the new version, ill reply back here once I finish downloading

And true, in the new version, the blue dot becomes an arrow and points towards what you are facing, Cool !!
Thanks
If for some reason you don't want to use Google Maps AND you live in the UK, Mapyx Quo seems to be pretty good. Check it out here: http://www.mapyx.com/
Isnt that a computer software ?
Have you seen nonigps?
It takes a track and you can set up waypoints which you can export in various formats.
It has an inbuilt compass which points to your next waypoints and also has a few dashboards to choose from
