Hi,
Probably this is a bit off topic but I have no idea where else to post it.
( so if you have suggestions)
Ok, I'm looking for an windows mobile application that can help me with making a city walk that must be viewable by regular computers and most recent mobiles.
So e.g. a camera application that add gps coordinates to the photo , a gps application with which I can add photo's and movies to the route ...
The complete system must in the end be able to interact with google maps. I understand that there will be a lot of extra programming work but I'm now busy with a first orientation . Anybody has any idea's ??
Rgds,

Hi people
A quick question regarding navigation software. I know Tomtom and Navigon are good for driving and for walking round towns and cities but is there any software for off-road walking ?
I love walking and climbing on the fells in the Lake District etc. and it would be handy to be able to fire up the GPS just to check that I am where I think I am
I use oziexplorer for geocaching, so it should be fine for your purpose.
I know that you can download maps for other parts of the world from their website, but I never have ... so I can't say how good they are.
That having been said there are utilities on the site to convert other map formats to be used by oziexplorer.
The site is http://www.oziexplorer.com/
I'm also using OziExplorer for now. Before I go walking / geocaching I scan a paper map and convert the map with the tools that you can get on that site.
If you are using a SirfStar III GPS make sure you turn off static navigation otherwise, if you are walking slower than 4km/h, your map won't update until you have walked about 50 meters.
memory map is my preference, uses OS maps of all kinds as well as allowing adding in your own if you set up the long/lat of a fixed point on it, although ive found it better just to get the electronic os version as the image is far superior, the ahard work is done for you and you can search via place names etc.
also the "3d" images and "fly throughs" make for fun evenings*
*(yes i am a mapping anorak )
Yep, memory map is superb
Always fun to download your recorded route back onto your PC and view it in 3D
GPS2Google
There´s a very nice tool called GPS2Google.
It just records your GPS- data, which you can upload to googleEarth later on.
Here you have 3D . way description.
Very geek an easy tool.
Its not fpr navigating, but you can use it while using your standard navigation-programm thru a virtual - comport-doubler.
Have a look here http://www.s-gps.com/

Try Tracky at www.trackthisout.com
I've been in talks with the author and he has now put in the British Grid co-ordinates and the OSGB36 Map datum which means you can use it with Ordnace Survey maps (a big plus in this country)
Tracks can be recorded, overlayed on a scanned in section map and analyzed later.
Great UI too. I am not affiliated
Thanks for the input everybody. I tried OziExplorer but had problems with memory (not got big storage installed so it ran out of memory). Tried Memory Map but found I had downloaded the OS version which doesnt allow you to calibrate your own maps ! Seems I must get a copy from the US site that doesnt have these restrictions.
Not tried Tracky yet, just about to download.
Thanks once again everyone, its nice to know there are people out there who get out of the car once in a while At least I have some idea of whats out there.
Hello friends...
so exist googlemaps api and stuff... many people knows how to use it (not me =/) so i was thinking.. would some one make one program that do something like this:
http://www.nseries.com/index.html?l...diaries#l=campaigns,n82,urbanistadiaries,home
i mean, every now and then you upload the position of your mobile google maps and it tracks your path thru the world....
something like this .....you want the basic version which is free. and a little How-to here
there is also trackme, produced by the good folk here that does the same thing

Thank you guys...im giving a try in each one...
just a last question... i was hopping that any of theese programs use the google maps triangulation position for localization... this happens?
i dont have a gps system.... =/
Anyone interested in doing some joint development on a program ??
It's in VS2005 and C#
The program will take the data (3G) from the COMPASS system and use the GPS on your phone to show you the camera photos and traffic flow data as you travel on the highways (eg to find the closest camera, and traffic events)..
I have a lot of the info I need already, but my time is limited.. I was looking for someone(s) who want to help out..
let me know..
Hi all
I want to use my Touch HD as a GPS logger when im on vacation and taking photos.
I want it to log my destination and then when i come home i want to be able to put these geocodes in the photos so i can remember exactly where every photo was shot.
Can anyone help me how to do it?
Not sure if this is what your after I downloaded HD Tweak which in the camera setting you can activate GPS camera then your photos will have that info embedded I tried this and uploaded them to Panoramio and it worked well.
Sorry dont have HD Tweak Cab but its easy to find through search.
Hope that helps
By the way if you select your SD card as the save destination in camera settings it is usually saved in My Documents/My POI

I am taking pictures with my digital camera and then i want to syncronise my pictures (taken with my digital camera) with the destination from the GPS in my phone.
GPS Utilities does the trick
I'm using Efficasoft's GPS Utilities (http://www.efficasoft.com/gpsutilities/index_wm_sp.html) to log my track which works great.
Also, if you're in the UK and have OS Landranger maps on CD/DVD they come with a Pocket PC mapping software from Memory Map (http://www.memory-map.co.uk/pda_mobile.htm) which also logs your tracks (and shows them on a map, too).
You can use GPSCycleComputer to log your track with .gpx format,
which is free.
http://code.google.com/p/gccv2/
I use both on my biketrips.
- GPS Photo (needs a change in the registry). GPS data is saved to the EXIF info of the JPG file. Can be used with e.g. flickr.com
- GPX route, recorded with iGO8.3. You can watch your route in e.g. google earth.
What is the best maps software available for the HTC HD2 ?
I know the google maps is really good, but one thing I dislike about is that it doesnt have a built in compass.
Nokia maps had a built in compass that rotates according to your position. ( the whole map rotates as well showing what direction you're facing)
Is there such program for the HTC ?
the new google maps support the built-in compass. It doesn't rotate or change the orientation of the map, but it gives you an arrow of which direction your car is heading.
Do I need to download that google maps or is it in the version that came with the HTC ? (going to check that now)
---EDIT
Nope its not in my current version, where can I get the new one ?
---EDIT
Okay I followed : http://www.google.com/gmm
Ill see if that downloads the newest version
---EDIT
It seems I have 3.2.1 .. the newest version stated by that site is 3.3.1
Maybe that will work
Thanks for pointing out the new version, ill reply back here once I finish downloading

Thanks for the link ^^ Already got it though
And true, in the new version, the blue dot becomes an arrow and points towards what you are facing, Cool !!
Thanks
If for some reason you don't want to use Google Maps AND you live in the UK, Mapyx Quo seems to be pretty good. Check it out here: http://www.mapyx.com/
Isnt that a computer software ?
Have you seen nonigps?
It takes a track and you can set up waypoints which you can export in various formats.
It has an inbuilt compass which points to your next waypoints and also has a few dashboards to choose from
