I'm looking for a program that log the gps position with time info and save everything to a file.
the ideal would be choose the sampling rate (like every 10 seconds or so), that can swap GPS signal with TomTom and.. Freeware.
I've tried some but they don't save info about time, just the track.
I need time becouse then I can merge this log file with exif in the pictures taken with my camera and automatically position the pics on panoramio or flickr.
More or less the same with the included trinity camera, the difference is that I use a Nikon D200
There is an accessory from sony (GPS-CS1) that does it but... hey, I've spent 550 euros for trinity! It's something that even my commodore64 could do!
I think you can not do it with TomTom since it doesn't keep a log.
but you can use BeeLineGPS (http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/) and export the trak in GPX.
than you just need a program to combine the data into your pictures, I use Downloader Pro 2 (http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm)
but there are others, even the new canon software does it!
I hope this helps
NoniGPSPlot is free software and can export the logged track as a GPX file that has the times in it.
I currently use this software on my Trinity, and it works good.

You just dated yourself big time!!!
could please somebody publish the GPS full config that is working on the HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris)?
Thanks in advance.
- Use a registry editor and go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/P9.
- Set Enable from 0 to 1
- Soft reset your device
- start the camera and at the top left corner you can switch between photo, video, ..... You will see that there is a GPS option added also now.
Thats it.
Nice tweak!
Works like a charm...
Cool, once you have a GPS photo, then what can you do with it? What programs work with the GPS tag (Picasa, etc)?
u gotta have your gps on like tomtom for gps photo to work after u have config... it. because without your gps active the gps foto wont work. so what u do is while using your gps go to gps foto and take your pics

That's not true, when you select GPS Photo, it will initialise the GPS automatically, no need for TomTom or other external GPS software, well at least that what it does on mine. Also, I've just noticed, the GPS camera (whilst having a GPS fix) moves 'normal', more fluid, not like the normal camera option.

texarcana, thanks for the reply.
I have configure it following you procedure, have now the GPS photo as an option on the camera, the icon is showing GPS coverage with several green bars, take the photo, stored in 'My POI' as GPS_00X.jpg, open the folder and picture but NO GPS info written on it..!?!
Please help.
Thanks again.
and once you have a photo with GPS data in what you can use it for?
All the GPS Photo could be used in other softwares (like as PicasaWeb, Google Earth, Google Maps).
If you open a GPS photo you can not notice the difference...the only difference is visible with software that show you the EXIF information of a picture.
yeah, just like bonobox said. It is useful too, when for example you want to tag a place for your friends to find you. ie; you take a GPS photo of a key location, upload that to your friend, he looks it up on google earth, and he gets the exact coordinates of where you are.

The gps info is hidden (written) in the picture itself.
The whole meaning of the gps photo is geotagging. Making pictures that you upload to an application like google earth, flickr, .... so that you can share it with other people.
Maybe this article will make it better to understand
But can u use it with tomtom.
example: i am on the beach and i dont have a streetname so i take a GPSphoto of the place. can i use the tomtom for bringing me to that point?
thanks
If you can extract the Exif header information then you could enter the nav to using Lat/ Long in TTN6 but this is a lot of messing around, also if your lat/ long were a considerable distance from the nearest road the Naviagation software will fail to compute a route.
The best application for me to view pictures is Panorado Flyer from http://www.panorado.com/en/index.htm Assuming you use Google Earth you can open a Geo-tagged picture and it will show you where you were stood on the planet when you took it - Mike
Is there a hidden option to increase the "resolution" of the GPS data? I noticed that, when I opened a picture in Photoshop Elements, the GPS data only went to whole numbered seconds. When I stuck that rounded-off LatLong into Google Earth, it is off by a couple hundred feet.
I know greater accuracy is there, though, because both TomTom and Garmin report degrees to 5 decimal places.

For example Zoner Photo studio has a function which navigate you through Google maps to the point of snap

Hi All,
I have been using the new version of TomTom and as some of you may know there is an option to use Navigate To... Picture.
Now here is my Problem: When I take a picture in GPS Mode. (After enabling it in Advanced Config), the photo get's saved in \Internal Storage\My Documents\My Pictures\My POI
However TomTom only picks up photos that are stored in a root folder of the storage card called GEO-PHOTOS.
Is there some way you can change the default location of photos taken in GPS mode to be saved in this Folder? Otherwise you need to always move the pictures around!?
I assume there is a registry entry somewhere but I haven't found it yet. Will keep looking.
Or can you change TomTom to pick it up from a different folder? (I am using TomTom v7.915)
I think this would be useful for a lot of people
Okay I found the registry value.
But all it lets me change is the Folder name within My Pictures, but not the actual location of the folder.
I just seaarched for "My Poi" in the registry editor.
Anyone has an idea how to do this
I'm just going out on a limb here but on Windows sometimes the program confuses links and actual folders. Therefore, you could try copying the folder where your images are stored and paste a shortcut to that folder in the root of your storage. Then rename the shortcut to the name that TomTom wants.
It might help/work
Cheers I'll give that a try.
Is anyone else finding that the location embedded in GPS photos taken on these phones is consistently about 10 miles to the east of the actual location? I've Googled it and it is a problem that affects a number of HTC phones, but I can't find a solution...

Haven't checked that
.
Tried to fool TomTom into using a link to the My POI folder (in My Documents) but that didn't work.
Anyone else has another idea?
I will try telling Windows to save the gps photo in a link to the root TomTom folder: GEO-PHOTOS rather than in the My POI Folder. will let you know tomorrow
I tried to get into geotagging my pictures and I have to say that I'm very disappointed by the Footprints software.
What's with the resolution of the pictures taken by Footprints? There are only thumbnails in the AppData/HTC/HTCFootprints/thumbnails folder. Why doesn't the software take the pictures at full resolution like the camera? Or are they stored elsewhere? This was the only place where I could find pictures.
I copied them to my PC only to see that the pictures don't contain any GPS info. Apparently they are only saved in the Footprints database and not in the pictures themselves (EXIF...)! That is completely useless!
Is there a way to use the normal camera to add geotagging?
Sure, there is a "GPS Photo" mode in camera settings. Just hit the camera icon and chose the propper mode.
hmm u can open ur camera
click the middle icon for capture mode and click next
there a mode call GPS photo..
maybe that will help u
Oh, thanks, that explains a lot.
Nevertheless I agree with the author, this is stupid not to have a full resolution version of the pictures taken with footprint. You basically need to take 2 pictures : one for footprint and another one for your PC ! this is insane and i'm sure it would not required a lot of modifications to get this thing work properly.
I think, that footprint was originaly intended as fast mobile service, how to inform your friends, where you are. Therefore taken pictures are small, ideal for MMS and e-mail.
Hello there,
I'm playing around with the Iolite for a few hours now, trying to find out, from which folder TTnav can read geotagged photos so that they're usable in 'Navigate to...' > 'Picture' within TTnav
Navigating to a geo-photo works in TouchFlo2D using the footprints tab, so I assume it's only a problem of wrong folder being used in some registry key or so.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
I think, that "Navigate to Picture" feature in TomTom and navigation from Footprints have nothing in common. Footprint probably use TomTom API to pass GPS location from image directly to TomTom. While TomTom itself might use some own way.
But one important thing. I am not totally sure, but I think, that Footprints don't store GPS info in pictures, but in own DB, so they can't be used directly in TomTom.
Anyway, I found some procedures, how to import geotagged image into TomTom, but none of them worked. I will update this post, if I will found something...
Well, here is it. I found it in FAQ on TomTom website (surprisingly )
To use picture navigation you need geo-tagged pictures.
The geo-tagged pictures should be stored in one of the following locations:
\My Documents\My POI\
\Storage Card\My Documents\My POI\
You can take geo-tagged pictures with your device by setting the capture mode to GPS Photo.
