how do you get past a lock screen? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a new razr m today or really you could say I "swapped" a razr m for another razr m + cash
And I guess it came locked with a program I've never seen before where you combine all these dots? (basically it's passworded with some app)
So I have no idea what version of software is on it cause I can't get in (if I had to guess it's 4.4.2 update)
I assume I can flash it through bptools and all that.. well I think? (but I prefer not too)
And also I forgot to double check if the phone was blacklisted with verizion...... (I use att so not super important)
I would call the person who I've never met before (for the password) but ahh, I gave them my phone that had the number/log and also I'm using a type of temp sim so getting their number from the carrier-reseller seems tough.. not impossible....

You'll forgive me if I mention that this entire story, as related, seems somewhat sketchy. For instance, who in their right mind would give someone else a Razr M and money in exchange for the other person's Razr M? And you don't know this person, so you can't call them abd you have some sort of "temp" SIM? Pardon me while I raise my eyebrows in doubt.

the reason why they gave me money cause their not a XDA'er as in mine was unlocked for gsm and there's wasn't. and because I sell these standard for about $150 and suggested I'd take trade-in's.. so at $75 + another razr.. that's why I reduced my price...
supposedly red pocket my sim provider is going to email all the calls I made in the last 15 days.. soon.......... so I believe that will fix the problem (maybe)
obviously I'm not such a good phone dealer/seller or I would not have let them left without that code............... (which it's not really a code it's a sequence of some sort)

If you every start selling phones.. you would probably start to understand more
I only deal exclusively in the razr m and now m505.. hence a large portion of my xda posts are in here.. I haven't quite perfected the software or all my techniques.. but gsm unlock is (mostly) easy.. clearing out all the **** included programs.. hmm.. not quite yet.. and bootloader unlock is pretty easy with 4.4.2

You could try this I don't know if it works... Just been keeping that post handy as my wife forgets hers all the time...
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.

cool, thanks
I'm gonna hold out for my phone records even if so far "red pocket" is f#@^%$%& incompetent about getting my phone records
Then I'll try that.. I have to assume the bootloader is not unlocked so I probably can't do sh#t until I get into the normal menus.... cept the adb stuff :good:

Cool "red pocket" finally gave me the call logs.. got her number and got the tic-tac-toe pattern so it no longer has a lock on it also has 4.1.2 on it

Well that's good news! Sorry I was skeptical, but the way you related things did make it sound suspicious. I hope you are able to complete the unlock and whatever else you have in mind.
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

yep, getting ready to sim unlock it.. then I'll sell to the next person (eventually)
I really like the razr m/xt907 it's why it's the only phone I use/sell that and the m550 lg optimus f6 is quite the bargain costs $75 brand NEW which is about the average price of a used razr m
The only difference is the phone loses .3 ghz per core.. has a bigger screen (which also makes it bigger in the hand or against the perfect or near perfect size of the m) has 400 maH bigger battery too and replaceable and maybe has a cheaper plastic case.. also in addition unlike the razr m.. this ***** requires removal of the battery to swap sim's and not for the sd.. I love the m's ability to get to sim/sd fast and in addition the optimus f6 loses carrier verizion vs. the m.. which can do 3 carriers.. but it also gains full LTE at least with tmobile not sure about att? I think verizon's LTE is super-expensive so there's no loss of that on the m
Ohh, one other factor in my experience besides for the optimus f6 software (not so good!) and neither is verizon's either without some tweaking
The speaker phone on the m550 is sh*t compared to razr m/xt907 it's speakerphone is superior!

My Experience with Replacing the Nexus

Hi all,
This is not so much of a ranting thread (although I am really frustrated), but just a gentle reminder to please check your screen for dust, as well as any other known issues BEFORE rooting. Thankfully, I did that, and my phone had dust under the screen UPON arrival. I got it at 2pm, and returned it to HTC by 5pm.
The other problem is, do remember Google takes no responsibility with hardware related issues. As much as I hate it, find HTC. I had a horrible experience with them, and I just want to share it with the rest of you. Also, I'm from Singapore, just in case.
I got my phone at 2PM from DHL, and was really happy about it (who wouldn't)? I opened it, booted it, and it was really fast. Then I checked the screen. There was not one speck, but at least 5 specks of dust under the screen. I immediately called HTC Singapore's hotline, and it was outsourced to another country (I'm guessing China, cause when they called me back it was +86). I can speak Mandarin, but only barely, and it was really difficult trying to tell them my problem in English. They really tried to help, but the communication barrier proved to be very frustrating. In the end, I was told to go down to HTC Care (at Keppel Bay Tower) to return the phone.
At this point in time, I didn't really want to make a huge fuss or anything. **** happens, I can accept that. All I want now is my phone replaced, as quickly as possible. I reached HTC Care around 4.15PM, but was only served at 5PM. Even worse, the staff at HTC Care Singapore had NO idea what to do with the Nexus One. They told me it was dealt differently from other HTC phones. As a consumer, I seriously do not care. I just want my phone fixed/replaced/whatever. I then waited for 20 minutes while they tried to log into the Nexus One system of theirs or something.
As though that was not bad enough, they had no idea what to collect from me. Some of them said I should return only the phone, while others said the entire box set. In the end, I returned the entire box set. They did not even bother to check the contents inside. Also, the courier service used this time is M3 express instead of DHL, and I was not given any tracking number despite them telling me the order has already been placed.
Also, there were other discrepancies. The phone staff told me to expect it within 3 working days, while HTC Care staff said to expect it within 3 to 5 working days. To be fair to the HTC Care staff, I doubt they were even briefed on what to do with Nexus Ones.
Below is the email I've sent to HTC, although at this point in time I doubt the response will be good:
To whom it may concern:
I placed my order for Nexus One with Google on January 9, and finally got it today, January 15, at 2pm. I understand that weekends are not considered work days, so effectively it took 5 working days to reach, which is reasonable to me.
I opened the Nexus One only to find dust under the screen. Doing a quick search on Google shows that it is a common problem. In fact, I read on some posts that it is considered to be a DOA problem by HTC, as seen from http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=29bc1e80107f01f7&hl=en. The first thing I did was to call the Singapore HTC helpline. I had a hard time communicating with them, but they did their best to help. I was told to go down to HTC Care (Singapore) at Keppel Bay Tower. The person on the phone had also opened a ticket for me.
I reached Keppel Bay Tower at 4.15PM, and was only served at 5pm. The service staff were polite but very unsure of what to do with the Nexus One. Apparently, Nexus Ones are dealt with differently from other HTC phones, though I do not see the point of them informing me of that. I have already accepted that there is dust under the phone and instead of making a big fuss, my main aim is to get my phone replaced on a one-to-one basis since I am still within the 14 days.
Once the staff managed to retrieve my information using the ticket number given to me earlier by the person over the phone, I was told I had to return the phone, but they were unsure whether to collect the phone, or the entire box set. In the end, they collected the entire box set. I had been told to expect it within 3 days by the person over the hotline, but the staff at HTC Care informed me that it was 3 - 5 days.
I am now requesting that you replace the entire box set, and deliver it to me within 3 days. In addition, I would like to know why the courier service used
is M3 Express instead of DHL (which was used when I first got my Nexus One). Moreover, I was not given any tracking number to track the status of my delivery, despite the service staff telling me that the order has already been placed.
I find it disappointing that the service staff had no idea what to do with Nexus One cases. It seems to me that HTC does not care because it is not really HTC's phone and more like Google's phone in this case. I hope you understand where I am coming from. It is my first time dealing with HTC's service, and the experience has been a let down. I have always thought highly of HTC's products since my previous HTC phones were all well-built, and I never had to visit the service centre.
I will appreciate if you could get back to me by Monday.
My ticket number, as well as product serial number are as follows:
Ticket No.:
Phone S/N:
Thank you.
Regards,

To end it, please remember to check before rooting!
bro sad to hear this from you.
I also got my nexus one today and i notice the screen's bottom left and right corners are making loose noise when pressed with some pressure..
so i used some pressure on the problemic areas for 20secs and so far, no more loose noise..
Hopefully it will prevent my unit from dust..
I have been consistantly checking mine as well. This sucks

From what I understand, this is still a problem with a small minority of phones.
People who do not have this problem (as you might have noticed) are not going to be very vocal about not having it.
For the record, I have an N1 and have had zero problems whatsoever, screen or otherwise.

Mine doesn't have it either. If you can't see it, then why is it bothering you? Mine doesn't have jam (jelly if you're in the USA) in it either but I'm not going to keep checking for jam.

its bothering me because I REALLY want to root but REALLY will go out of my mind if I see this problem after rooting (because my warranty will then be long in the void ). So I want to track this problem down now and some how be 100% sure that my phone is safe.
Wow, this dust problem is become quite large. Small quantities doesn't sound like a good enough example of the problem. I don't have my Nexus One yet, but I do hope - that when I get it soon - the newer models (if they are starting to correct the issue) doesn't have this problem.

Well, you either wait for the warranty to expire or you root it before.
If you're really that worried power it off and check it with a magnifying glass. TBH Right now there are 1001 reasons not to root it and only a couple of reasons to root it. Unless there's something you really need/want root for you may as well wait.

I know, I am waiting for now, probably until Cyanogen Mod comes out for N1. However I do not want to wait a year

exactly i think one of the main reason i root my G1 was to apps2sd....and then some themes...but with this much RAM on the N1 i do not see a reason to root...

Theres more to root than apps2sd. For example, Internet tethering is a feature I really want and only possible through root.
Since we're talking about rooting here, I just wanna root to upgrade to un-released Android firmwares, themes, changing things inside the phone that aren't possible stocked. There are lots of reasons to root in my eyes, and I really don't care about the negatives.

Same here. Zero problems with mine.
Also I don't plan to root until the S-ON/S-OFF issue is either resolved or root without unlock is discovered.

There are always alternative. Although not as elegant of a solution, PDAnet allows you to connect your phone to your computer so it can use your data connection. Works pretty well.
as someone who had to unroot and use the warranty on my rooted G1 like 11 months after I got it, I definitely will not root my N1 when I get it unless there is a way to revert to the full factory settings. I'm not a dev but I have faith they will figure it out though.
I woke up to find this thread now has 3 pages of useless conversation :|.
Anyway, if you take a torch and shine it it'll be obvious if there's dust on it.
I need root cause of Market Enabler and internet tethering. Will update this thread when I get a response from HTC.
That's a truly depressing story!
The warranty situation is the main reason I use to keep myself from buying this phone. Since I had a hardware issue with my G1 that needed to be replaced (stopped accepting USB input, so it wouldn't charge or transfer data), this is kind of a deal-breaker for me.
Not repairing hardware defects because of a software issue is complete bull****.
My contract comes due in November, hopefully by then, HTC will have changed their policy. If not, the phone I buy definitely won't be unsubsidized! I've had good luck just contacting tmobile and saying the phone broke. Since it doesn't work, I'll have to cancel my contract and pay the ETF.....in the past they've given me a good price on a replacement. This probably wouldn't work if I wasn't on contract with them.
I agree and some of these pointless posts have been reported, so please keep this thread on topic.
I have cleaned this thread up so please refrain from from spamming and flaming. (and will continue to do so!)
Greetz.
i may be sending mine in for a repair soon, i have a stuck/dead baby blue pixel.

[Q] ROOT?

I love my Evo. Main reason? Personalization, flashing custom roms, flashing fonts, etc. My knowledge of development ain't that great though and I'm wondering from those "in the know": Do you think we'll access root and be able to flash custom roms?
For me, this is the best tablet b/c it runs android. I don't mind the price, I just want to be able to do what I want to the device Opinions?
I wouldn't doubt it. In fact, I expect it. I don't think there are any android devices that haven't been rooted. Just have to give it time once it's released.

Whats the deal with the locked bootloader on some Moto devices? I hear the term but I'm not familiar with what it means (EVO owner). I assumed it had to do with not being able flash ROM's and/or root. Can anybody explain?

That's about all it is. They shut down any access to the loader which means you can get around to install anything. Most of motos new phones are this way. Its a kick in the nards but it protects their hardware from stuff like overclocking and burning out stuff. And of course the occasional brick.
I hate it but I see the point. And I can see the xoom being locked....little expensive for them to have to keep taking back because a new rooter f'ed theirs up.
Hmmm. Though I don't see custom ROMs being as necessary, that actually gives me a touch of pause. I don't like to think that the life of the device can't be extended if Motorola created a XOOM 2 or something.

I don't think the hardware spec as is will get outdated anytime soon.
Well..outdated yes, regress into unusable for web, video and apps.. certainly not.
The device per the data sheet will still run things quite well as we know them now for a very long time.
Only thing yet to be really proven is how teg2 can handle intensive 3d functions in 'real world' scenarios.. and if you think Crysis will be better played on a tablet I have a bridge for sale.

I know the hardware won't be outdated, I'm talking about all the obsolete android phones because their OEMs abandoned them and they never got FroYo. I think if it ends up being locked down I might have to utilize Best Buy's new return policy on the 28th day.
The Atrix has already been rooted:

I wouldn't be shock if Motorola backs off the boot loader block. Pretty funny huh. I was talking to the guys in best buy mobile and they claimed it was verizon that was locking down the boot loaders. Of course these are the same guys who were shocked when I told them I had a OC nook color w/ froyo and honeycomb.

Shame on you for talking to BB employees about anything technical. No hate, but most of them are morons.
It just makes me laugh when I talk to people like that. Being an electronics technician I do it sometimes just to see what chunks of stupid come out of their mouths.
Since the Xoom is intended to be the reference development tablet platform by Google, it should be easy to root and has an easy to unlock bootloader, just like the Nexus One and Nexus S.
That being said, Motorola is Motorola... so they may do their usual Motorola thing and encrypt everything up. But I think the chance that the Xoom is easy to mess around with is pretty high.

Same with me. Infact im not even sure im going to get the damn thing. They were so unorganized and unprepared. I NEVER go on websites and do the ratings but for this i did. It was a horrible experience trying to get this thing pre ordered. 3 of the techs had to talk to each other to figure out what i was asking for. I didnt think the statement "i would like to pre order the motorola xoom" was all that confusing. I never shop at best buy but being as inpatient as i am i took the risk to get my hands on this thing as fast as possible. I just hope i get a call once they come in. As it looked im going to be the only call they have to make.
Did anyone else get a copy of their preorder or just a receipt?

Also praying for no locked bootloader. Hoping to be rooted within the first few days
All I got was the receipt and the gift card as well. Got to our BB ~1300 to place the order and was the first to actually place an order, as opposed to people asking questions about it. Course our BB is in a town of ~50,000 (metro area ~150,000) so I was a little concerned they would even get any in for Thursday, they say they are indeed due in this week.
Did see the preorder paperwork she filled out.
Like above, they didn't know what they were looking for. The girl found it without too much wait though.

Fascinate user moving on.....

Couldn't resist the offer for a free upgrade to the Charge and 4G was just switched on this week in my area, so it was a sign.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone, devs and anyone else who helped make this device much nicer. Been running stock ED04 for 24 hours now and coming from CM7 boy can I say...this phone was a complete turd before you guys did your wizardry. Its been a long journey from launch...boy did we get far...
I am sure some of you will be making changes as well, but I wanted to say thanks either way, hopefully will see you on the other side.
Did you get a replacement over the phone? Mailed out to you? Verizon said I can get replacement mailed to me when in stock. Followed up after not hearing back and was told now that the only way to get replacement is by checking with Verizon stores in the area if they have the replacement Charge kit in stock. Blasted!!!

And man, did I miss the reception, call quality, and build quality of a Moto phone.
Should get my Charge today. Been on a stock build for about two days and its horrible. Really makes you appreciate all the work you guys have done.
I too will be receiving my charge today I believe. Its been an enjoyable 5 months flashing this phone but time to move on.

you have to have a legit issue...this isnt a freebie as a way to get a new phone...although im sure some less than honorable people are using it as such
Er, duh. I understand that nitsuj. I have the issues I mentioned in my previous reply. I didn't actually believe that vzw would go so far as to send out better devices to compensate for, what I thought are, "acceptable issues". By acceptable, i am referring to issues that can be caused and justified by loss of signal reception, or aging hardware.
If vzw considers that to be a valid excuse to send me a new device, count me in. Like I said, I've got another year with this phone. I can't afford to miss calls from my wife who is at home with our special needs child, or the facilities that I manage.
I hope this reply is "adequate" enouph for you. Or feel free to jump to conclusions about my personal needs to have a quality device that I pay hard earned money to enjoy, and quite honestly need to keep Dr. visits/appointments in check.
End rant.

Mine was having issues with missing calls, not getting messages, and I was having trouble hearing people and they were having trouble hearing me. And this was whether I was stock or on ComRom or CM7/MIUI, no matter which radio, and no matter how much signal strength I had. I missed a few important texts in an area where I had a full bars and signal strength at around -70dbm.
Thank you for your input GoogleAndroid. I can't believe this is such a widespread issue. The best thing about this is hopefully I won't need to use my wife's upgrade to get a decent phone. Win win me thinks. The ;-)

if you have a legit reason then i was in no way meaning any offense...your post i quoted listed no issues that you were having (if they were in previous posts, my bad) and lets face it...at this point everyone is hoping they have issues to get free phones out of it
id hazard a guess that half of the root community on xda has switched because they heard it was a possibility so they went looking for a problem...my issue was hardware related (and not related to whatever else had)
my point was just that your post made it look like u were itching for a new phone a year early...since ur saying thats not the case ill take you at your word
Fascinated
well, my daughter finally, and reluctantly, traded in her Fascinate for a Charge, after four dysfunctional Fascinates. Hers was the missed call problem. I still have the Fascinate, running CM7 since the demise of GB CommROM - and I have zero interest in the Charge, DX2 or Dinc2. The modded Fascinate (thank you devs!) is in my opinion the best smartphone available. That is, until...

What I am waiting to use my upgrade for is the Fascinate 2, coming soon to a Verizon near you. Unless the Nexus Prime release is announced soon.

Hello and Goodbye

Hi guys....still fighting the good fight? I havent been around much lately I know. I was away for awhile for our ceramonies and when I got home my continuum was dead! No boot, no recovery, no download mode and it doesnt seem to be charging at all. So now Im stuck in dialup hell again hahaha. And even though it was used when I bought it didnt have any problems so Im almost certain my little brother had everything to do with it hehe :-| Since I have a Verizon prepay monthly account I got no insurance so unless a miracle happens I will probably be buying another phone and leaving you fine people. I just hope I can activate a different phone and still keep my unlimted data???
Sorry to hear that buddy. Happy trails wherever it takes you

Well, that's hell. Reminds me how nice it was to be an only child. Peek in occasionally and wave. But, to answer your question: You should. Data is tied to the number, not the phone it'self.
Maybe see if VZW will send you a replacement battery, or take it into a store and they may be able to help? You could also contact Samsung as the phone hasn't been out for more than a year, so it should still be covered under the factory warranty as well, they may be able to fix it for you.
I believe Imnuts is right. I have seen two Continuums replaced for free by way of Samsung's one-year warranty. The Verizon agents didn't seem to know or care that I had replaced one already by way of manufacturer's warranty
Yeah, you should be able to get it fixed that way. Not saying you want to keep the Continuum, but I'd at least try that as it should be cheaper than buying a new phone.
Hi guys! Im finally back....good thing I got lotsa sibs...my brother just got DROID 3 so he gave me his old X...have a droid 1, devour, bionic, pro, 2 X's, an incredible, fascinate, continuum, and a play between all of us and I've rooted all of em except the Sony (once my phone died I had to play with sump haha)...anyway wanted to say thanks to all who helped me. You guys are the heart and soul of the continuum. I will still chekin and try to lend a hand when I can....by the way seems like alot of new owners bricking their continuums... I love the population growth and jus wanna tell the noobs to be patient, research, learn from your mistakes, and soon you wont be noobs anymore...much love and see you guys later

Story of my Atrix

Well, this is the story of the rise and death of my Atrix.
Bought this wonderful phone on the 6th of August 2011, after reading reviews of it online, for a cheap price of $146 with dock and a 2 year contract.
Lots of exciting moment, especially when the 2.3 update came, and again with the CM9.
However, I had LOTS of issues with the touch screen, and had to send it in for repair 5 times.
Well, all was fine till about 15 days ago, when I dropped my phone, and the digitizer shattered. Well, its fine, I told myself, I'll just buy one from ebay, well, it is easy to install after all.
Yeah, well the item arrived AFTER my warranty was over, but i was like "meh, I won't need it anyway"
Replacing the digitizer was very easy, however, after I replaced it, I realised part of the digitizer was not working =(
Yeah, ****. Well what choice do I have? I sent it to Motorola for repair.
Well, I went there and they were friendly and nice, as usual, but when they scanned my serial number, all hell broke lose.
"Uh, well you phone is out of warranty, including the 3 months grace period"
"Um, yes, well I know that"
"There will be an evaluation charge of $25"
"About how much will it cost?"
"Well, the parts about $150"
"So a total of $175?"
"Uh, yes, would you like to reconsider"
(I would love to, but I can't. My carrier is screwing with me, and I cannot cancel this plan. I am paying $30 for 12GB, and if I renew the plan, it will drop to 2GB. I have no choice but to keep my atrix)
"Um, not really. Just send it in"
Well, two days pass and I was in school when I received a call. (Yeah, I'm a student, still in secondary school actually)
Obviously I can't pick up, so I just let it ring...
Well, I tried to call back, but no one answers. (Dear Motorola, answer your phone PLEASE)
This goes on for a few days, but one day, I was lucky enough to pick up.
A little tired here, its 12.54AM and I have school tomorrow, so I'll cut it short.
In short, after consulting with their managers, Motorola decided they will not fix my atrix. Instead, they will replace it with a BRAND NEW atrix 2
Obviously, I'm chuffed to bits. Is the atrix 2 better? Not really. However, I do really appreciate the service shown here. Is it google at work here?
I have no idea. However, Motorola has just won a loyal customer.
The whole point of this post is simple.
1. Motorola, please don't allow flaws like the Atrix digitizer and wifi+bluetooth to get pass QC
2. Motorola, please pick up your phones. You are a phone company. Doesn't reflect well if your phones are useless
3. Motorola, thanks for being such a good company. You are really setting a good example here. I cannot describe how much I really appreciate your efforts here.
4. Goodbye Atrix forum. You all have been really nice, and I am sure this phone will continue to exceed your expectations, and I am sad I won't be here to witness this.
Lucky American.
Why no one is ready to pick up my Atrix and swap it with anything non-nVidia crap based?
They're seriously allowed to do that? Replace your phone with a completely different one that's largely accepted as being worse?

1. The warranty is over. They are not bound to do anything.
2. I agreed. I would not want a phone that has no warranty that has failed every 2 months anyway.

nVidia makes all of their SoCs closed-source. It shouldn't matter if you run stock, but it makes it makes it much harder for devs to work their magic.
