[Q] Google Camera Photosphere & Panaroma mode not working - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus 4 went thru some water damage 2 weeks back. I had to replace the power IC, the rear camera lens and the display to get it working. The flash isn't working anymore but I can live with that. However, I've been having issues using Google Camera's Photosphere and Panaroma modes. Every time I switch from Video / Camera mode / Lens Blur mode to Photosphere / Panaroma mode, the app just freezes. Attaching screenshots along with the post. Closing and restarting the app brings it back to the same limbo state and I have to force kill it every time to get back to Camera mode.
Is this an issue with the software or is the changing of lens causing this issue? I didn't get the repairing done at an LG store as it was very expensive and would've taken almost a week to get the phone started.
I'm currently on CyanogenMod 11. Please help. Thanks!

Seems so. Tried calibrating the Accelerometer with SensorTester app but it never finishes calibrating. Guess the sensors went bad due to water damage. Any idea how much would it cost to replace just the sensors?

where is placed Gyro + Accelerometer you can find here : https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+4+Teardown/11781

[Q] disconnecting dead 5M camera from A501

so... my 5MP back camera died today, 2 month after end of warranty... i get green blinking for 5 seconds then the app crashes... then 30secs later android reboots by itself.
i was wondering if there is anyway to disconnect that camera, either hardware or software fix, maybe rerouting android's requests to my front camera thats still working ?
would it be easy to pry open the tablet and remove the camera module ? maybe that would prevent the system from rebooting ?
not a major annoyance but that would prevent accidental reboots from apps that reset the default camera.
edit: nvm, found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25138666&postcount=3
and followed instructions camera fixed with a bit of tape

Focus problem after rear camera replacement

Hello everyone!
Since I replaced the broken rear camera of my GT-I9505 the camera doesn't focus properly. First I thought it was a faulty replacement, but the replacement of the replacement as well as the camera from a different seller show the same behaviour:
The google drive widget for scanning docs focusses correctly, but none of the available camera apps work. As soon as the app tries to focus the focus goes into near mode and remains there with no further movement.
I have factory reset the phone, reinstalled all camera apps, flashed other roms, factory reset again, with no change.
Has anyone experienced this as well?
Thanks for any tips

So little rear camera replacements? I guess I am the only fool that managed to crack it

Hello there
I also have this same problem and done all those same things to fix this. 12cam is now useless. Some1 help us out of our misery! :I
I just picked up the i9505 second hand (first smartphone). Same problem here. I went through 3 camera module parts off eBay... first one was the wrong part (i9500), and other two were supposedly i9505 - same results: camera never focuses. *Sometimes* it will temporarily focus if I moderately shake the phone, even then, only if the phone is tilted upright and not facing down.
Is the front camera unaffected for you guys?

[SOLVED] Cameras don't work after teardown

I successfully revived my phone after a brick - had to take it apart at that. I disconnected the camera module when doing so. After finishing and reassembling it, I noticed that the photos from the back camera were no more than 3 or 4 megapixels. i thought it was badly connected or something (which seemed odd since it still shot somewhat nice pictures, i would expect artifacts) and went ahead and took the device apart, then unplugged and replugged both cameras. After booting, I opened the default camera app. The rear camera snapped into place with OIS but the app didn't show image. Tried switching to the front cam, nothing. After some time it simply crashed. OpenCamera says it can't start it and it might be in use by other app (after closing the stock camera).
Now I connected it again after that and it still doesn't want to work. I might've damaged something, which is kinda unlikely since it worked worse, but still worked after the first teardown.
Maybe it is a software issue? There's some camera firmware I've heard of, might be that too. Or I just trashed the cam, possible too. But what's weird is that the front camera also doesn't work...
Edit: it was the BeastMode kernel... Says it is made for A2017U's and my thing is a G
Lol it was BeastMode Kernel. Thanks for all the help

LG Camera error 'camera not available'

I sent the camera to LG for a broken screen repair. Now I've it back with a factory reset, and the LG camera app is not working! When I start it it freezes in a black screen (with shooter/video buttons) for a 3-4 seconds and then throws the error: "Error de càmera - La càmera no està disponible" (translated to English: "Camera error - The camera is not available")
I tried the cstark app and it works (but I can't access settings, it forces closing)
Is it possible to reinstall the original apk? What can I do?
That sounds more like a hardware issue (i.e. they forgot to plug the camera module back in). I'd contact the guys who replaced the screen.
By "it works" do you mean: the front and back camera work, but the settings in the app cause the app to close? Is the modded gcam app for your model?
If both cameras work in Google Cam try this:

If not, back to LG

Yes, I used the cstark27 mod and at least the back cameras worked, I didn't tested front ups

Hi, has anyone found a solution for this problem? I bought used lg g6 with "camera not available" message when opening lg cam. But interesting is fact, that wide angle and main cam works, when im using other apps, or even stock, when im holding stock cam icon and choosing selfie camera. To sum up, selfie cam not work at all (even when replaced for new one), main cam works time to time (i don't know why, sometimes works fine, other phone gets a massive lag), wide cam works always. Is there a possibilty that selfie cam is somehow connected to main cam, and the main cam is causing this problem?

If a factory reset or kdz won't fix it. Send it back. Hopefully you haven't had it long.
Maybe it's rooted with some broken camera mod?
Personally I'd try returning it over trying kdz.
Unfortunately, i have no varranty card (it is used phone). Kdz didn't helped at all same as mounting brand new camera. Sadly, I don't know the history of this phone. Anyway, thanks for reply!
Unfortunately,My phone gets into water even its water proof but after sometimes camera cannot work as if black screen (camera error, camera is not available) but if i am using gcam app then both cameras are working properly. But again there is a problem in connecting social site , front camera is not working only back one is operatable. So please give me some solutions for this.

Rear camera issues/not detected

Hello Team,
I've had my Essential Ph-1 for several years and loved it. Recently I replaced the battery with no issues. However, I notice that since replacing the battery, the stock camera app would not launch with an error initializing the camera, and it said to restart the phone. Rebooting the phone made no difference.
I opened the device back up and carefully checked all the wires and connections, and they're all tight and nothing looks cut, cracked, or disconnected. I tried a third party camera app (OpenCamera), and it worked fine on the front facing camera, but the rear camera was in black and white only. Since then I have tried factory resetting and re-flashing the firmware, and now the front camera works (in third party app) but the rear camera is not even recognized and I don't get an option to swap cameras.
Any suggestions? Is there anything I can check to troubleshoot this further?
TIA!

As it's happened at the same time as battery replacement you'd have to think the two are related. Possible try a "simulated battery pull" to ensure camera is powered down, that is a force restart, press power button & vol driven together for 15secs (I think). If this doesn't work try disconnect/reconnect any components related to camera. Only other thing I can think of is the camera or related component has received ESD damage form static electricity (most likely a diode or small IC), maybe you can find a cheap bricked or damaged phone for spares, if camera module expensive, assuming it's the camera.
Appreciate the response. I think you're right. I've forced restarted and flashed it back to stock, and while the stock camera doesn't work, I found that if I use a third party app (such as OpenCamera) the rear camera works in Greyscale only (not in Color).

hummmm ... Yes, hard to say for sure boat seems like some hardware issue on the color camera, hope you can find a simple fix.
Appreciate the followup. After looking farther. I see there is a hairline crack in the camera. I bought a parts EssentialPH1 off of eBay for ~$50 and will give swapping them a shot.
