Focus problem after rear camera replacement - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
Since I replaced the broken rear camera of my GT-I9505 the camera doesn't focus properly. First I thought it was a faulty replacement, but the replacement of the replacement as well as the camera from a different seller show the same behaviour:
The google drive widget for scanning docs focusses correctly, but none of the available camera apps work. As soon as the app tries to focus the focus goes into near mode and remains there with no further movement.
I have factory reset the phone, reinstalled all camera apps, flashed other roms, factory reset again, with no change.
Has anyone experienced this as well?
Thanks for any tips

Hello there
I also have this same problem and done all those same things to fix this. 12cam is now useless. Some1 help us out of our misery! :I

I just picked up the i9505 second hand (first smartphone). Same problem here. I went through 3 camera module parts off eBay... first one was the wrong part (i9500), and other two were supposedly i9505 - same results: camera never focuses. *Sometimes* it will temporarily focus if I moderately shake the phone, even then, only if the phone is tilted upright and not facing down.
Is the front camera unaffected for you guys?

[Q]Does I9500 Rear Camera Module Work on I9505 Model?

Just yesterday I have not been able to access my rear camera, thought it was the rom i was using, flashed a new rom and the problem is still there.
When i open any kind of app that uses the rear camera such as snapchat - it can't connect to the camera
Instagram Force closes
Samsung camera app is just black
I have also used the secret codes to get into the testing hardware area and it reports
data line failed
then repeatedly says Warning camera failed
caches wiped factory reset everything and still no joy
I have taken apart the phone and have checked the ribbon cables and all were in and secure (100% sure)
so this leaves me with the only thing left. faulty module
I can only seem to find a replacement for a i9500,
so would this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuin-Sa...ent-Part-/300932899978?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
work in my i9505?
thanks in advance
Most pieces work and I think both cameras too

[Q] Google Camera Photosphere & Panaroma mode not working

My Nexus 4 went thru some water damage 2 weeks back. I had to replace the power IC, the rear camera lens and the display to get it working. The flash isn't working anymore but I can live with that. However, I've been having issues using Google Camera's Photosphere and Panaroma modes. Every time I switch from Video / Camera mode / Lens Blur mode to Photosphere / Panaroma mode, the app just freezes. Attaching screenshots along with the post. Closing and restarting the app brings it back to the same limbo state and I have to force kill it every time to get back to Camera mode.
Is this an issue with the software or is the changing of lens causing this issue? I didn't get the repairing done at an LG store as it was very expensive and would've taken almost a week to get the phone started.
I'm currently on CyanogenMod 11. Please help. Thanks!
maybe dead gyroscope sensor ?

Seems so. Tried calibrating the Accelerometer with SensorTester app but it never finishes calibrating. Guess the sensors went bad due to water damage. Any idea how much would it cost to replace just the sensors?
where is placed Gyro + Accelerometer you can find here : https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+4+Teardown/11781

[Q] Back Facing Camera Replacement(Software error)

So to make a long story short I recently broke the back facing camera on my Note 3. The Lens is cracked and obviously pictures are extremely distorted and purple in color and such. Knowing my usual DIY nature I figured it would cost me about 20 bucks to get buy a new camera and install it myself... Not exactly the case. At this point I have had 2 different replacement cameras and installed them both correctly. Both cameras have resulted in the error message "Warning: Camera Failed" and clearing the Camera data and cache have not helped. Neither has factory resetting the device. I also know it is not a hardware problem because when I reconnect the original camera it opens no problem.
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue or has similar experience or if anyone knows if I can try another replacement camera? Any help is much appreciated because at this point I am out of ideas

Nope how in the hell u do that[emoji45]
Basically i got into an argument on the phone and I slammed the phone on the desk I was at. Hoping to avoid a screen crack I slammed it on the back(With a case on) and the next time i opened the camera it was destroyed

Well, you say you replaced them correctly so the obvious conclusion is the hardware is different.

S4 i9506 both cameras not working (tried everything i could find)

Hello there to all.
I´m newly registered to the forum, although i´ve been using it to search, learn and use roms in my Samsung s3 for some time now.
I´ve bought recently a used S4 i9506. At the time i tested several key points of the device to check if it was all working, however (and don´t ask me why because i cant explain it), i completely forgot to test the cameras.
My problem is the following. Everytime i try to access the camera it says that camera failed or something like server connection failed. I´ve tried every single resolution i could find on the internet and so far all failed to solve it. The problem seems to be in both cameras, i think, because when i try the code *#0*# both Mega cam and front cam give error. Here´s what i tried so far:
- Soft Reset/Hard Reset/factory reset;
- Cleared cache both from boot and manually erasing cache from com.sec.android.gallery3d;
- Tried 3rd party camera apps from GooglePlay;
- Tried the RestartCamera.apk;
- Tried 3 different firmwares for i9506;
- Tried rooting it and then flashed several different roms;
- Switched the rear camera with a new i9506 rear camera module that i bought;
- I cant also test the cameras, because when i use the code *#34971539# they bring a menu on which i can´t use almost every option (see image);
http : / / rghost.net/6Zby4zXFD/image . png
Anyone have any other possible resolution?
I´m thinking on maybe buying a front camera module. Could that do the trick? Could the front facing camera not working properly make the rear camera fail as well?
Thank you for the attention to all who took the time to read.
So far 60 people read and nobody answered. ... is it because you don´t know what else i can do? I´ve been reading the problem may be from the motherboard. What can i do on the motherboard to make things right?
Thanks again
Be patient my friend someone will answer soon
Hi,
I've got the same problem with my s4mini. Both cameras aren't working and all the solutions you explained don't solve it.
I'm thinking about buying another S4mini with broken Display in order to change the motherboard. This might be the only possibility to solve this......
Greetings from Germany

Hey there m8.
I know the feeling, right?!
The thing is that for a faulty i9506 model i could almost buy myself another motherboard and mount it, but i was hoping to find some other solution, maybe even some electronics expert opinion on what i could do in the motherboard to make it work again. There are some videos on youtube that teaches how to change some components on the motherboard to solve problems like dead smartphone or constant auto reboots. Also, finding a faulty i9506 model isn´t as easy as finding a regular S4. :crying:
Thx for sharing the problem and for the opinions,
and greetings from Portugal
Today i've changed the mainboard aaaaaaand -> cameras still not working
So i started to change the front cramera and the ear-brightness-sensor from the old s4 mini with the broken screen into my working one. And now both cameras are working again!:good:
I think the cause is most likely the brightness sensor which is combined with the ear speaker. This could explain why both cameras are not working.
I'm not completely sure due to i changed the front camera also. However changing the main camera did not do anything as mentioned above.
Maybe i should mention: A few weeks ago i've changed the earspeaker-brightness-unit because the speaker wasn't working anymore. Right after this both cameras stopped working.

Thank you for the update on your situation m8. That could be some relevant information there. Can anyone confirm if the sensor is the same for all s4 models? If so i could find more easily one from another s4 model and try it, for the sake of desperation.
cheers

Rear camera issues/not detected

Hello Team,
I've had my Essential Ph-1 for several years and loved it. Recently I replaced the battery with no issues. However, I notice that since replacing the battery, the stock camera app would not launch with an error initializing the camera, and it said to restart the phone. Rebooting the phone made no difference.
I opened the device back up and carefully checked all the wires and connections, and they're all tight and nothing looks cut, cracked, or disconnected. I tried a third party camera app (OpenCamera), and it worked fine on the front facing camera, but the rear camera was in black and white only. Since then I have tried factory resetting and re-flashing the firmware, and now the front camera works (in third party app) but the rear camera is not even recognized and I don't get an option to swap cameras.
Any suggestions? Is there anything I can check to troubleshoot this further?
TIA!

As it's happened at the same time as battery replacement you'd have to think the two are related. Possible try a "simulated battery pull" to ensure camera is powered down, that is a force restart, press power button & vol driven together for 15secs (I think). If this doesn't work try disconnect/reconnect any components related to camera. Only other thing I can think of is the camera or related component has received ESD damage form static electricity (most likely a diode or small IC), maybe you can find a cheap bricked or damaged phone for spares, if camera module expensive, assuming it's the camera.
Appreciate the response. I think you're right. I've forced restarted and flashed it back to stock, and while the stock camera doesn't work, I found that if I use a third party app (such as OpenCamera) the rear camera works in Greyscale only (not in Color).

hummmm ... Yes, hard to say for sure boat seems like some hardware issue on the color camera, hope you can find a simple fix.
Appreciate the followup. After looking farther. I see there is a hairline crack in the camera. I bought a parts EssentialPH1 off of eBay for ~$50 and will give swapping them a shot.
