[Q] Backup/Restore to new phone - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
What's the best way to backup everything on my S4 to my new S4.
I can't use Kies as it won't restore apps to the new phone and I don't have have ROOT so now Titanium Backup
Cheers

App Backup & Restore OR G-Data Cloud Back are your best options.

I am using Helium - App Sync and Backup. No need to be rooted

thanks guys

If rooted, Titanium Backup is a good option which backup apps to the core

an
I usually stick with Titanium Backup

Does it work without root?

In theory it shouldn't be a problem although bear in mind that you will need to have root access and superuser before you can use Titanium on your SGS2
I have just backed up all my apps from my HTC Hero.
Currently downloading all my SMS with SMS Backup + but after that's done I'll be attempting to restore some apps. will let you know how it goes

Backup GS2

Hi guys,
I want to back up contacts, sms and apps with there data. Backup and restore be simple
Is there any solution to do this with out rooting?
I think you might need to root for a full backup of all your data. But if you want to backup only contacts and smses, there are apps for that. Alternatively you might be able to save into your SIM card.
Rooting allows greater access to system files so as to do a full backup, with nandroid or titanium.

Rooting your phone is the best way to back up apps n data using any of these apps
1. My backup pro
2.titanium backup
For SMS backup use Backup n restore SMS app
For contact best thing to do is Google sync it

which app to use..??!!

hey i need to backup each and everything on my phone.. which is everythng from messages to apps+data....which app can i use..?? my phone is rooted..
Titanium backup for app+data and sms backup restore for sms
+1 for Titanium Bkp, but MyBackupPro used for sms / call log / etc..
titanium backup for apps and data....contacts my phone explorer
Must say Titanium backup
Titanium by a long shot. Though I must say that by restoring system apps and data is playing with fire and asking for issues with your new rom.
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using XDA App.
Titanium Backup + mybackup = Flawless combo.

[Q] Best way to backup everything before flashing?

Hi, What apps do you guys use to backup up your SMS, Contacts, Apps etc before you wipe everything and install a new rom.
Im looking for one that has a restore feature that can easily be used without there being any problems where I'm left with all my data lost
Cheers!

Nandroid backup via CWM or Titanium Backup with rooted device.
Export to xml in titanium backup for sms
Google looks after contracts
Titanium backup for apps
Make a nandroid before you try a new Rom incase you want to go back or forget to backup something

There is also Helium which doesn't require root if you run it plugged into USB on your computer.
Hi guys!
Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for the suggestions!
Titanium backup looks too complicated :L I'm using TWRP atm so a Nandroid backup isn't an option for me I don't think..?
Helium seems to appeal for me, so I will try it out

I would advise you to make at least an EFS backup. You can use the backup function in TWRP for that.
Otherwise, Titanium backup has no real competitor, and is not complicated at all. Try it. You'll thank me later.

Easiest way to restore apps and associated data

Hi folks
A galaxy s4 user here. I have a rooted device and play around with many Roms but am finding my way of installing a new ROM and then restoring my data to be long winded and tedious and am looking for a better way.
Currently I run nightly backups using titanium backup and online nandroid backup.
I am finding though when I restore apps and data using nandroid backup then it all cases its only restoring the app and not the data.
If I use titanium backup I can restore both app and data but the process of restoring my missing items using the batch feature is still messy.
What I want to do is install a new ROM from scratch, connect to google and then use google to restore the apps (as it can only do that anyway) this way I know I am running latest version of app and then use some other restore utility to identify all the users app I have installed and identify the respective data to be resorted.
Is there an app out there that intelligently talks with play store and is able to restore just the data?
Appreciate any help on this. MODs if there is a better forum to put this in my apologises but feel free to move it.
