I had a very strange wifi problem with my GT-N5110 and it went on for months. I'm running 4.4.2 .
Symptoms: whenever my battery level dropped below 70% my wifi connection would become unstable, regardless og which wifi network I connected to and regardless of powersettings etc. The behaviour was, that it would be connected for up to 20 seconds and then spontanously disconnect. It would automatically reconnect when entering the wifi settings menu. When I charged the battery to 70% or above, wifi would function normaly.
The way I fixed it was to uninstall an update for the Allshare cast dongle (I belive that's the way it was called) and reset the version back to the factory version, immidiately after the uninstallation wifi came back on (at battey level 52%) and have been fast and stable ever since. I hope that this will be usefull for someone if they have the same problem, and I apologize if this is posted in the wrong session of the forum.

Hi there,
With my BlueAngel I could leave the WiFi on all night as when the phone was switched off it did not eat up the battery - when the phone was switched on it would spend a couple of seconds reconnecting to the wireless point.
The Universal seems to behave in the same way, yet it eats up all the battery overnight even when I have switched the phone off and it is not connected to the WiFi access point.
Is there some setting or registry key I can alter to fix this?
Cheers,
Quilty
@Qulity, if you don't close PIE I have found the battery can be drained. I assume overnight you are using Flight Mode.
Are you closing the flip and presuming that the device gets turned off or have you actually set your device to turn off after a fixed period of inactivity in the power settings?
If it is the former, then the device actually does not turn off if there is any activity in the background like active GPRS or WiFi etc. A simple solution to this would be to press the hard-ware on/off button once you are done irrespective of whether wfi is active or not in the background.
Try it out and post your results here.
My device is set to turn off after 2 mins on battery power, but I made a special point of turning it off with the hardware button before testing last night. As I said before my BlueAngel never behaved like this.
my jasjar was turned off yesterday, and every 5min i heard sound for new wifi network!! same problem, i solved it with turnig wifi off!! any other solutions?
I set up the WiFi standby rules to "never", so wifi should be always on even when my device is in standby mode.
This worked very good at the beginning, but since some days WiFi is NOT kept alive. As soon as the device is going into sleep mode i will lose WiFi connection. The WiFi standbye rule is still correctly set to "never".
Thats really lame because i use locale to update my RSS Feeds at home over WiFi on certain time slots. But i get no updates since wifi is not active when the device is sleeping.
Anybody an idea what the problem is? As i said it worked for 2 weeks and suddenly its not working anymore.
Won't that drain the battery to Kingdom Come if you do leave it on on standby? I used to do that on the Tytn II I used to have, and the battery died after 2 hours!

well i wouldn't say 2 hours, should be more than that. But i'm only activating wifi at home, and at nights my device is plugged to ac adaptor. So battery is not an issue in my case, and i want to use the better bandwidth at home. I just dont know why is suddenly stopped working...
Settings > Wireless controls > Wi-Fi Settings > Menu > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy. When finished press Menu and then Save. Done.
The "Menu Button to save" Hint did it! thanks!
I always chose the option, but forgot to save via menu button and pressed the back button.
The strange thing here is: when i was coming back to this menu later it would still show the correct setting (WiFi always on), even though i hadn't saved it via menu button. But it wouldn't work, because wifi would be deactivated.
The back button will save your last selection, but won't activate the option!
This is really one of Androids problems: you just don't have one standard way of interacting with the system on many levels. Sometimes "back" button is enough (or the only way) to store your data, other times you have to press hardware buttons to save...
hmm the problem seems to be elsewhere: today in the morning the connection was lost again when i took the phone out of sleep mode. i could see the wifi icon, but the apps couldnt connect to the net (my rss feeds hadn't been updated).
Seems like each time i deactivate wifi manually (when leaving home) the wifi rules settings will be lost, and i have to change the wifi rules again and save the settings. Otherwise wifi won't be kept alive...that's really annoying.
maybe i have to download the "keep wifi alive" app after all from the market...
What make and model is your AP?
it's a netgear router, i will check the exact model today and post it here.
hmm i forgot to check the model, but i changed my router settings yesterday.
the router was set to disconnect after 60 minutes, when the connected device is not using the connection.
i changed that, so the connection is not reset at all, but still as soon as my device goes to sleep mode the wifi connection is basically dead.
After taking the phone out of sleep mode, i can see the "wifi connected" icon still there, but no app has any internet connection.
I always have had my tab set to turn off wifi when screen goes off,
and it has performed flawlessly.
Now - after the 3.2 update - When the screen goes blank,
the wifi does not turn off and it stays connected.
Does anyone else have this problem ? is there a fix ?
My issue is the tablet is set to turn wifi off when screen turns off.
Always worked perfectly.
Now after 3.2 when you wake it the wifi does not turn on, says out of range.
You have to click wifi on/off to reconnect.
Fix one thing and break another.
Stock tablet.
confirmed.
My tab is also set to turn off wifi when screen is off.
Same deal, it does not reconnect. Sometimes it does reconnect but he status bar says no internet connection.
Had the same problem after updating to KMM and now again with the new KMM (KMN).
But since wifi standby consumes almost no battery, I just leave wifi on "always on" (network notification switched off). It's only a workaround but with no real drawbacks.
I'm on Task 6.1 rom and its all good no wifi issues.
Question? How do u know if it turns off or not.
network scan
Same problem here.
After I turn on my tab, it does not reconnect immediately. Have to wait 1-2 minutes, then it reconnected.
Faster is to manually turn wifi off and on again.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Same here. Just upgraded the other day, have to leave wifi on or manually switch it off and on. Nice update samsung
Yep. Same issue here. I'm thinking of leaving wifi on all the time and checking the difference in battery life.
3.2 has had issues with wifi since day one. Use one of the custom rom, I use Task 6.1 and the problem went away. You can always revert to 3.1
I've noticed for the past few days that when i look at my phone in the morning, the wifi is disabled (greyed out). I usually leave the phone on streaming spotify while charging. I can't remember off the top of my head whether this happened when I first had it but I definitely know it has been doing this for the past week. I'm using the Canadian version of the Samsung 7 Edge. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Any advice would be appreciated since i'm trying to figure out whether this is a software bug or whether something is wrong with my wifi chip. Thanks in advance.
5GHz
I Had similar issues it was because i was connected to 5GHz on my Asus router, I had constant disconnects the the wifi icon was greyed out. I had to switch to 2.4GHz and everything is working smooth. Don't know if it's just me having issues with 5GHz.
At work, I have it connected to 5Ghz for at least 8 hrs a day and leave it on streaming music and wifi never disables itself. I tested the phone last night again but instead of having it plugged in, i just left it on battery, connected to wifi and streaming music. This morning when I woke up, wifi was still on and connected. I've come to a possible conclusion that in my specific case, it could be the fact that it is getting too hot while charging so it turns off the service perhaps ? Does anyone know whether this is a normal behavior ?
Do you have Keep Wifi on during sleep turned off?

That option is most definitely have that option on. I suppose it could be the router I'm using as it is also an Asus model but that a bit of a stretch. I have since factory resetted it and the issue still persists.
Hello, I will forward my message to Motorola support here about the issue and hopefully somebody will be able to help. I already did several factory resets with no success and I can't make Motorola support let me send my phone to them to US from Canada for a repair unless I have an american address to send the phone from.

My wifi, bluetooth and wifi tethering & portable hotspot stopped working completely(NFC still works). Whenever I am trying to turn them on, the switch just always goes back to off from on, although wifi is always present on battery use as if it was on. All of the features stopped working after few days of my phone acting strange. My phone started draining battery from 100% to 0% in like 40 minutes while it was just laying in my pocket, it would sometimes randomly turn off and lose about 50-70% of battery when I would turn it back on. All of that was followed by crazy overheating. After another random turn off at 6% of remaining battery, I charged it up and turned it on and wifi, BT and hotspot didn't work at all after that. Mobile internet still works fine and battery is fine now. I tried doing factory reset twice but it didn't do anything. Also it all happened when I went on vacation to Ukraine and started using Lifecell operator (I was using it before during vacations in Ukraine and it was fine, but it was first time using Moto X Pure Edition with it). I hope you can help me with my problem.
