Titanium backup should work, but don't restore any system apps. If you want pics, music etc copy then to your pc and copy then back to your new device

You can also use Helium Backup, it will backup everything including contacts and Apps

If it is set up to do so, once you enter your Google account credentials it will automatically download your apps to the device. Otherwise you can go into the play store under your apps and download them.

Once you logged in with Google account in new tablet every app will be installed automatically from play store.

I recommend backing up using Titanium Backup, copy the backup file to the Nexus 7 and restore. This way, your data is also restored. Useful for games or apps that do not have backup capabilities. I.e. Generate data file.

Thanks. But I'll need to be rooted otherwise I'll have to do 1 app at a time, correct?

If your titanium backup backups are stored on Google Drive you won't have to transfer any files. If there not then do so now

If you're not rooted you can't backup with titanium and the 1 app at a time is only for restoring with the free version of titanium.

well I was hoping not to have to root on day 1 it looks like I'm going to you. thanks everyone

well, that also means we have to be rooted when trying to restore to Nexus7 right?
Yes, Titanium Backup requires root to function in any capacity.
Is there anyway for Titanium Backup Pro (or another Play Store app) to create app+data .apk files that an un-rooted Nexus 7 could install?
ADB backup, perhaps...

download DataSync in the play store...you can transfer apps and data over wifi.
I personally just sync with AppBrain app market. That allows you to automate the process of downloading some what. Not as nice as titanium, buy it is an option that won't force you to root day 1.

Restoring apps with titanium backup doesn't restore game save for Bard's Tale?

As stated above, restoring my apps and data with titanium backup doesn't work on bard's tale. It makes me start the game over. Is this normal? Any fixes? Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You can copy the save game file in the future. If you have access to your old bards tale game with the good save info you can access it with a file explorer and transfer it to a jump drive or dropbox...or even email it to yourself. Its a very small file.

Thank you, I still have the backup info from titanium backup, would I be able to find it in one of those files somehow? I see the three files titled bards tale, but obviously they are files that titanium backup uses and not like what I see in the normal file system.
I also have an old backup that I made using wugs toolkit, is there anyway to pull it from there without having to restore the whole backup to my nexus 7? Thanks

I'm not that saavy yet...still learning. I did something similar and restored my old nandroid, pulled the save file, then restored my new nandroid and replaced the file. Sorry

TB backs up app data only up to 100mb by default. If app data is over 100mb it doesn't backup at all. You can change this in the settings to whatever size you want.
Thanks I think found it, you have to set " backup app external data" to Enabled Always. Thanks for the heads up. Please let me know if you are referring to a different setting, although I'm pretty sure that's it....

[Q] Noob root question ab out backup

I am planning on using WugFresh's tool to root my Nexus 7 32 gig. Do the backup and restore tools put back all the apps and data or do the apps have to be reinstalled? I just want to be sure I don't lose anything and it would be really nice if I could root and have everything right like it is on the device.
Thanks in advance!
Just use the tool to backup if you don't know how to backup manually.

ya did that

Copy the whatsapp folder from oldphone and put it into your note 3 internal sd under same folder name. Then install whatsapp and will ask you if you want to restore. ... You say yes and get all your files and messages back. ..

Before that. Make sure on your old phone that you go on Whatsapp. Then to the settings>chat settings>backup now. Then you will have the latest backup, copy whatsapp/databases to your new phone in the same DIR and then restore.

[Q] how to do a full complete backup without root?

can you guys tell me how I can do a full backup with this phone without rooting it? im looking to do a backup like I can on my iphone and be able to restore everything from pics to apps to settings and messages, would prefer to be able to do it over a cloud with a email but its not mandatory.
im looking to do a backup in a sense where if I lose my device I can just get a new phone and be able to restore completely.
thanks

Kies 3 should provide a usable PC-oriented backup, also for some Google programs a backup can be done on Google servers and now there is a Samsung Cloud option.
That being said I believe none of the options above is as good as having a rooted device and Titanium Backup
You could try Helium.
I think the Samsung cloud option is the best way

so will samung cloud work as well as icloud does in terms of backing up and restoring A FULL BACKUP
I don't think it backs up the memory card

Use MyPhoneExplorer pc-app. You can backup pretty much everything. This + Kies, you cannot lose much

Helium also did the trick to me fine
