After giving up on finding a fix for my sluggish YouTube appon my xoom. I started having problems with a sluggish android market app and downloaded app cache cleaner from the android market and ran it......it cleared an amazing 200mb of cache and the market now works fast again.....but the great part is that my YouTube app now works fast....no more waiting through endless buffering. I had tried clearing the YouTube cache in the past but it did nothing but since the cache cleaner wipes ALL cache it cleared up a huge amount that was probably clogging up the YouTube app. So far videos that were buffering non stop are now, after the full cache cleaning, loading fast as my PC browser.
Buffer problem is back....even with cache cleaner,oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for a YouTube update.
Why not just clear cache in app instead. And youtube buffer is a router issue. Get a n router and see how fast it goes then. I had to get an expensive one that could handle more than normal. Otherwise it's a crap shoot. If it's a high quality hd video it will buffer on the sub $100 , routers.

I tried clearing the youtube app cache alone and it didn't help.....then I cleared everything using the cache cleaner and it worked like a charm but now it's buffering again. Must have been a coincidence. The router can handle YouTube streaming on the Xoom browser and I can watch Netflix without a problem.
YouTube app calls for way less data to be loaded at start, so it falls behind.

You tube and browsing speeds -FIX (for me anyway)
Ok so since I got my XOOM a couple of weeks ago I was thinking there was a general problem with the wifi speeds. I had problems with the youtube app in particular. It would buffer for ages and then sometimes not even show the vid. I also saw problems with other streaming data such as game downloads and in general the wifi speed was really dissapointing. I searched all over the place for a fix and found a few things to try like clear the cache from the you tube app as well as upgrading to 3.1 but nothing seemed to work until today
I downloaded wifi analyzed from the market which is a free apo that does exactly what it says on the tin, after a quick scan of my access point it advised me to change my channel to 6 from 10 after doing that my XOOM now flies and I mean flies - everything fro. General browsing to the annoying buffer times on the you tube app are now gone!!!!!
I am not saying change your channel to 6 - this was just the best channel for me so grab yourself a wifi analyzer app and give it a go - I hope it helps someone out there because this has resolved the last of my problems I had with my lovely XOOM
This is a re post from another forum, all credit goes to kill3rvill3
The only thing that's made my YouTube app work great again is to disable the HD before I start watching a video.
Most videos are still at a good , so they all look very good regardless of the HD being off.

Do you guys get video stuttering on Netflix? It's pretty bad on my tab 4 8.0 to the point of getting a headache. I've tried 2.4 & 5ghz but no change. Battery saver is off. This doesn't happen on any other android devices I own. Even my old tab 2 runs Netflix smoother. Any tips or is this how it is on all tab 4s?
Could someone try Netflix and let me know how it is on your tablet please.
Tested Netflix on my Tab4 8", no problems at all.
Do you experience this stuttering on any other video app?

Tab 7 here. I get a bit of stuttering but rebooted and plays smooth again.

I've tried out some other players like mxplayer and also stuff like YouTube and video playback is smooth. It seems to be just Netflix that is having this issue for me. I've restarted and all that but no luck. Netflix is the only one getting this stuttering every few seconds. Real annoying. Not sure why. I've never seen Netflix act like this on any of my devices and other tablets that I currently own.
Try clearing the cache, try reinstalling?
i have the same problem
what i have tried so far:
1. re install firmware using Kies.
2. format cache, factory reset from recovery
3. clear cache, restart app
4. disabled screen mirror, smart stay, palm motion , switched to nova launcher...
5. limit background process, check do not keep activities.
6. disabled power saving.
7. disabled multiwindow.
edit: also tried
8. clear all other apps cache.
9. Turned off all the bloatware.
10. installed task killers, show no process running since they are Turned off.
11 disabled rotation
12. enabled airplane mode
I also noticed movies in SD does not shutter. only the ones in super HD.
don't know what else to try, and i don't want to root and lose warranty.
playing 1080p 60Hz videos shutter a little bit, I'm starting to think that is just that the CPU cant cope with doing many things at the same time like using wireless an decoding video. since day 1, i noticed that while the updates were downloading and installing it became very laggy over all, and I was like, what are 4 cores there for then? its just that its a crappy tablet and that's all.
I've tried a lot of the things above to and Netflix is still having this micro stuttering. I noticed that if I lower the Netflix quality in my settings it will still stutter so it has nothing to do with the tablet not being able to handle high quality. It almost seems like there's a bug on the Netflix side with this tablet that is causing this or something. It's kinda sad that my old tab 2 7.0 Netflix stream is better than this new tab 4. I also have a shield tablet that just blows both these away but that's expected. My wife and daughter use this tab 4 and they watch allot of Netflix on it so I would really like to figure this out. Anyone else have any ideas on what to do or know if there's a bug that needs to be ironed out with Netflix and this tablet. Maybe there's a update from Netflix or Samsung to fix this problem in the future...if they know about it.

I have tried all versions from newest to oldest , one by one, the lastest one that works is 1.8.1,
you can find it here if you want:

disable automatic opdate for it.
Hi All,
I am running stock Samsung Kitkat with no root or anything.
Whenever I watch Youtube videos it works fine until I change the quality to 720p or 1080p. I get freezing and stuttering and the videos are unwatchable.
I turned on force GPU rendering and 720p was fine but 1080p still freezes and stutters.
Its not my internet connection and I get 70mb via wifi and 50ish via 4G.
Any ideas as far as I am aware this shouldn't be happening? didn't happen on my S4.
Thanks

Is power save on? Power save slows down ur phone by limiting cpu power .check if that's on and if it is switch it off.if that doesn't work then update YouTube or just try getting another version of YouTube.that should help [emoji106]
Update -
Issue is resolved. Call Tmobile and have them disable the Binge On feature from you plan and have them reset your cell connection. I have done this and can confirm the issue is fixed.
So, flashing the Pure Nexus Rom has given me some proof on some shady stuff going on the Tmobile network, thanks to the feature which shows your real time data speed in the notification bar.
I am an unlimited data customer, and as of a few days ago, I cannot watch an HD video on Youtube without lag, which is weird because Tmobile in Dallas is very fast, like 50+ mbps. I have always watched 2k video without any issues.
I noticed that whenever I run any video app like Hulu, Netflix, or YouTube... the download speed will not go above 1.5 mbps. Whenever I do anything else, like download an app or run a speed test, it goes much faster.
Look that these screenshots... this is some serious BS going on! I can confirm that the 1.5mpbs speed cap is also happening on Netflix and Hulu, but I cannot take screenshots in those apps because the apps block that.
Anyone else on the Tmobile unlimited data plan experiencing this BS?
Wonder if it's related..
http://www.theverge.com/2015/11/24/9792126/t-mobile-uncarrier-unwrapped-free-unlimited-data
When I talk to customer service... They give me some bs that they cannot accept my problem because my Nexus 6p is not a tmobile phone. I hit them back with the fact that my brother has a tmo galaxy s5 and it's doing the same crap to him. We are on the same plan.
It could be binge on. It detects that you're streaming and does some tmo magic maybe throttle to "optimized streaming video" they said there was a way to request to have it disabled. I didn't think YouTube was part of binge on though.
That's what I think also. But I remember that youtube was part of the Binge

It's actually not part of the binge on program, it's something that they said they were trying to work with Google on.
It could just simply be you went past your monthly 'unthrottled' limit and are now deprioritized when streaming video, possibly.

I called and they confirmed that I have not gone past my limit and that I should not be throttled in any way
I've used only 11gb so far, and throttling occurs at around 20gb
I was just in Hawaii, where T-Mobile isn't that great and had no issues streaming the TWC app. It would lag and stutter initially, but would be fine after a few seconds. This was on my Note 4 before I got my 6P though. I was getting about 20mbps down on LTE.
I would check your settings on your T-Mobile account. Binge On was turned on automatically for all customers, so log onto your account, go to profile, turn off the setting and see if that helps. I attached a screen shot so you can see what the settings look like.
Welcome to the uncarrier, who decides how you use your data...
Try to go through a VPN, then stream your video again. If it changes then you know it's a throttling issue. But don't just try it in one area, sometimes there is congestion.

Thanks for this tip!
I changed the setting. Now let's see if it fixes my issue.
Just turn Binge On off on your account. It's enabled by default, and it "optimizes" your video so you use less data, but it means the quality suffers. Only certain services don't count against your data, but all video is optimized with Binge On enabled.
On VZW UDP... I've noticed that (what seems to be in the last few months) when on cellular, YouTube automatically defaults to very low resolution video... Like 144p or 240p. I have to click the options and manually change the resolution. It looks like you've done your homework, just figured I'd throw this out there or at least share that I'm experiencing something similar with VZW.

I think that is just the youtube app. I always have to change mine to 1080 or 1440 when my data works just fine.

I never have to change mine. Sometimes/most times It starts off a low resolution but after a bit it changes automatically. Other times it just starts off at 1080p.
I resolved the issue!
I called tmobile, they confirmed that the binge on feature has been disabled on my account, and they reset my connection. When it came back up, this is the speed I'm getting o youtube.
Looks like YouTube is also on the binge on feature.
Thanks all for this, trying this setting change now.
OP updated with the resolution info

As I said above, YouTube can be optimized with Binge On for reduced data use, but it's not part of the free streaming.
Hi everyone,
I am facing a problem where almost any media (Youtube, Spotify, Default Player, VLC) I have kept randomly pausing in the foreground as well as in the background. I have tried tweaking a lot of optimization and battery setting but no results from that. I also cleared cache from the recovery.
If anyone has a solution to this problem, that would be great!
Thank you in Advance.
I've noticed this issue as well. Figured it was just me. I haven't found a fix for it yet.

Go to Settings-Device care-Battery-Settings(Top Right Side)-Sleeping Apps
Now Remove All The Apps From Sleeping Apps Which You Use Often, Example Spotify or Any Media Player
Now Close All Apps And Try. Everything Will Work Without any Hassle :good:

Same this started for me after the March update
I also have this issues with Google play music... but soon after I uninstall and reinstall it back then problem fixed. Tested with other music player also fine now. Hope this helps
Only a patch would make it work! Nothing helps

I had the same issue. Reset my settings and even wiped my cache partition again.
Updating Device Care to 10.0.01.0 somehow fixed that and some new battery draining issues I encountered after the ASD3 update
Remove the apps from sleeping apps and also from optimize for battery not just sleeping apps
I had the same with what's app audio voice notes and solved this way
Have not seen this on both S10E and S10+ devices here.
Granted, the S10E doesn't get the (media) use as the S10+ but I've watched long youtube videos as well as full feature movies (Plex) and never once have I experienced a drop out or pause. I use Youtube Vanced because youtube ads suck.
I have the 1TB 12GB Ceramic S10+ if that makes any difference.

This only happens when you are playing something and turn of the display as normal so the phone should be in standby mode
YouTube and videos are normally playing as the phone is already in active mode and screen is on

Hmmm not sure why I would turn off the display while watching a video.
Now if you're talking about streaming music, then I have not tried that. (That would make more sense?)
This happens to me when i disable background usage for google play music, it randomly stops after couple of seconds.
