xoom youtube app buffering possible fix - Xoom General

After giving up on finding a fix for my sluggish YouTube appon my xoom. I started having problems with a sluggish android market app and downloaded app cache cleaner from the android market and ran it......it cleared an amazing 200mb of cache and the market now works fast again.....but the great part is that my YouTube app now works fast....no more waiting through endless buffering. I had tried clearing the YouTube cache in the past but it did nothing but since the cache cleaner wipes ALL cache it cleared up a huge amount that was probably clogging up the YouTube app. So far videos that were buffering non stop are now, after the full cache cleaning, loading fast as my PC browser.

Buffer problem is back....even with cache cleaner,oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for a YouTube update.

Why not just clear cache in app instead. And youtube buffer is a router issue. Get a n router and see how fast it goes then. I had to get an expensive one that could handle more than normal. Otherwise it's a crap shoot. If it's a high quality hd video it will buffer on the sub $100 , routers.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App

I tried clearing the youtube app cache alone and it didn't help.....then I cleared everything using the cache cleaner and it worked like a charm but now it's buffering again. Must have been a coincidence. The router can handle YouTube streaming on the Xoom browser and I can watch Netflix without a problem.

YouTube app calls for way less data to be loaded at start, so it falls behind.

You tube and browsing speeds -FIX (for me anyway)
Ok so since I got my XOOM a couple of weeks ago I was thinking there was a general problem with the wifi speeds. I had problems with the youtube app in particular. It would buffer for ages and then sometimes not even show the vid. I also saw problems with other streaming data such as game downloads and in general the wifi speed was really dissapointing. I searched all over the place for a fix and found a few things to try like clear the cache from the you tube app as well as upgrading to 3.1 but nothing seemed to work until today
I downloaded wifi analyzed from the market which is a free apo that does exactly what it says on the tin, after a quick scan of my access point it advised me to change my channel to 6 from 10 after doing that my XOOM now flies and I mean flies - everything fro. General browsing to the annoying buffer times on the you tube app are now gone!!!!!
I am not saying change your channel to 6 - this was just the best channel for me so grab yourself a wifi analyzer app and give it a go - I hope it helps someone out there because this has resolved the last of my problems I had with my lovely XOOM
This is a re post from another forum, all credit goes to kill3rvill3

The only thing that's made my YouTube app work great again is to disable the HD before I start watching a video.
Most videos are still at a good , so they all look very good regardless of the HD being off.

Youtube app buffering issues

Not sure if anyone else have encountered the same issue, but when I stream lengthy videos on Youtube app (>15mins), the buffering happens fine initially and the video kicks off. After say, 5 mins it stops all together and the video gets stuck. Im able to reproduce it everytime on my device. The workaround is to close the app, reopen it, get back to the same video, and get to the same point where it hung. Imagine my plight, when you need to watch an hours video on Youtube. I had buffering issues on the TF, where buffering was slow, but it never stuck indefinitely.
Anyone else facing similar issues and any ideas regardin how to fix this?

Testing it out now with a 20:00 minute video, couldn't find anything but the Milan Fashion Show in HD
Will let you know (have screen timeout set to 30 mins).
UPDATE: Watched the ladies march down the podium in full glory of HD for all 20 mins without any buffering issues.
Not sure if its a Youtube issue or issue with my Tab. The speed on my Wifi router is close to 25 Mbps download. But, lots of youtube videos take hell lot of time to buffer on my TF, Tab and in some cass, on my laptop too.

Most likely it is your ISP. Is it happening when you are connected to another wifi access point?

I've gotten some force close issues on youtube with some random videos, select it and then it starts to buffer and then freezes and force closes

Nexus 7 music stutter

When I play music on my nexus 7 while multi-tasking, the music stutters. Spurts
Thid problem is unbearable when I use the neutron music app.
It happens not as much on the play music app, but still happens.
The system as a whole also lags considerably when running music with the neutron music app.
I'm running 4.2
Anyone had this problem?

Anybody knows how to fix it?
Same problem with power amp (pa. 4.2).
Got a nexus 7 that shipped with 4.2 and had the same issue (music suddenly stuttering even without doing anything).
For now I seem to have gooten rid of the issue by doing a "wipe cache partition" in the recovery console (google for it).
The only thing which is left: if some heavy fullscreen animation is playing (i.e. returning to home screen or opening an app) the music _sometimes_ gets a little distorted (< 1 sec) but at least isn't interrupted.

Thanks a lot, that actually works (wipe cache and dalvik in recovery)
Btw it works with bluetooth headphones
It happened to me once or twice so I installed AVG Antivirus and GO Taskmanager then kept cleaning RAM regularly then the glitch got fixed somehow.
Here we go again...
This is driving me nuts...
Using my Nexus 7 the past few days, the music lags/distortions slowly reappeared.
I tried to pay attention when they happen. So far I noticed most of them while:
Opening a new tab in Chrome, switching between apps (fullscreen animation), having heavy disk I/O (i.e. installing/uninstalling apps). But sometimes they just appear out of nowhere, even when not doing anything at all, though.
Here's a collection of things I tried so far to eliminate the issue:
- Cache partition wipe: like mentioned helped at first but soon the issue reappeared.
I also wiped the cache partition again yesterday and the issue actually got worse afterwards this time...
- Keeping RAM clean: tried numerous apps to close unnecessary background apps and free RAM. Seems to reduce the issue a bit.
- Turning off 'click' sounds: in the sound menu there's a toggle for sounds when touching the screen (i.e. clicking on an element within an app). Turning it off actually helped a bit, because the music lags at least won't happen at times when the click sound would be played, anymore. (Which happened often to me before)
- Using Poweramp: this music player app allows you to increase the audio engine's buffer size and process priority. I tried tweaking these settings to no avail. It seemed fine at first but the lags reappeared quickly despite having increased process priority and buffer size. Other third-party players I tried have the same lag issue as well.
I looked around the net and also through the Android bug tracker. Despite of this thread I rarely found any related report so I begin to wonder if other Nexus 7 owners aren't noticing or simply ignoring this issue or if my device is faulty.
I somehow doubt the latter though, because everything else is mostly completely smooth including video playback, Android GUI, scrolling in Chrome etc.
To me it seems more like a multithreading issue (which would be ridiculous having a quad-core processor) or a memory/disk access bottleneck.
I have this issue too, though it's like a 100ms stutter or something quick. I'm using headphones with no issues on desktop or Galaxy Nexus. I've noticed it the most in Netflix and YouTube, but also get it in Google Music and Pandora.
I get it also, even just listening when everything else is idle. It makes me afraid that a device has *more* processing power than my Gnex plays music worse than it. The Gnex is just about flawless with music and multitasking.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
A friend of mine is also having this issue on d2vzw (Verizon Galaxy S III) on cm 10.1 and not 10. I will check back here now and then and see if anyone has come up with anything and any updates on his side.

[Q] Netflix video problem with 8.0 help

Do you guys get video stuttering on Netflix? It's pretty bad on my tab 4 8.0 to the point of getting a headache. I've tried 2.4 & 5ghz but no change. Battery saver is off. This doesn't happen on any other android devices I own. Even my old tab 2 runs Netflix smoother. Any tips or is this how it is on all tab 4s?
Could someone try Netflix and let me know how it is on your tablet please.
Tested Netflix on my Tab4 8", no problems at all.
Do you experience this stuttering on any other video app?

Tab 7 here. I get a bit of stuttering but rebooted and plays smooth again.
Sent from my SM-T230NU using XDA Free mobile app
I've tried out some other players like mxplayer and also stuff like YouTube and video playback is smooth. It seems to be just Netflix that is having this issue for me. I've restarted and all that but no luck. Netflix is the only one getting this stuttering every few seconds. Real annoying. Not sure why. I've never seen Netflix act like this on any of my devices and other tablets that I currently own.
Try clearing the cache, try reinstalling?
i have the same problem
what i have tried so far:
1. re install firmware using Kies.
2. format cache, factory reset from recovery
3. clear cache, restart app
4. disabled screen mirror, smart stay, palm motion , switched to nova launcher...
5. limit background process, check do not keep activities.
6. disabled power saving.
7. disabled multiwindow.
edit: also tried
8. clear all other apps cache.
9. Turned off all the bloatware.
10. installed task killers, show no process running since they are Turned off.
11 disabled rotation
12. enabled airplane mode
I also noticed movies in SD does not shutter. only the ones in super HD.
don't know what else to try, and i don't want to root and lose warranty.
playing 1080p 60Hz videos shutter a little bit, I'm starting to think that is just that the CPU cant cope with doing many things at the same time like using wireless an decoding video. since day 1, i noticed that while the updates were downloading and installing it became very laggy over all, and I was like, what are 4 cores there for then? its just that its a crappy tablet and that's all.
I've tried a lot of the things above to and Netflix is still having this micro stuttering. I noticed that if I lower the Netflix quality in my settings it will still stutter so it has nothing to do with the tablet not being able to handle high quality. It almost seems like there's a bug on the Netflix side with this tablet that is causing this or something. It's kinda sad that my old tab 2 7.0 Netflix stream is better than this new tab 4. I also have a shield tablet that just blows both these away but that's expected. My wife and daughter use this tab 4 and they watch allot of Netflix on it so I would really like to figure this out. Anyone else have any ideas on what to do or know if there's a bug that needs to be ironed out with Netflix and this tablet. Maybe there's a update from Netflix or Samsung to fix this problem in the future...if they know about it.

Google is finally turning on 1080p in YouTube!

Yesterday for the first time I noticed that YouTube was buffering at home, checked the settings and I now have a 1080p option. The setting is not always sticking after restarting the app but I would imagine it will be more stable sometime soon. Clearing the data in the app from Settings/Apps did help. Not a huge difference when compared to 720p but it does look better! Also working on my N5! Woop! Woop!

Best kodi settings on nexus player?

Just want to get some input on what settings, etc that you have set for the best possible experience with kodi on the nexus player. For me it was running flawless until got the message cache full or something like that, so I started digging and found this http://androidpcreview.com/fix-kodi-buffering-problems-heres-how-to-modify-the-kodi-cache/2611/
And had the message go away but starting having shutter problems, so I enabled expert mode on kodi and set video to match monitor refresh rate and so far so good. Too early to tell. Also I disabled logging. Any other input would be greatly appreciated!

I've read that the zero cache tweak will wear out your flash memory, which will render your device useless. Due to that I've never tried it. I only get buffering issues on 1080p content though.

Any buffering issues with 1080p content?? My ISP is Comcast and I get 75 Mbps down. Haven't tested the speed on the NP cause I don't know how, but I would think that is a fast enough connection to not get buffering like I do. I also have it on a 5Ghz connection.

A lot of it depends on the source. If you get a good 1080p stream it will run fine.

Noticed on there it says read buffer factor 20, think it would totally freeze the nexus player, though from reading lil more might bump mine from 1.5 to 2. Some streams run well, while some I have had shuttering video, def keeping my eyes on which sources have been good, I've had 1080p run like a champ with some and 720 run choppy

It's not recommended to use zero cache for small box devices as they are very limited on storage. I've experience 100% storage used when using it on Amazon Fire Tv box, reset setup again and worked a week or two then bam 100% storage used again. whats worse in aftv if this happens only way to recover is to reset. after doing this the second time and setting things up i DID NOT use the script running perfect no issues!!
also have the NP i have read around other places that zero cache is not to be used on these devices!! for the same results 100% storage usage.
zero cache is to download whatever file is streamed so if the file is 3 GB your more then likely screwed. regular settings download much much less at a time thus not surpassing storage space
also zero cache works more for pausing a stream as it will continue to download x file with no limits these little boxes need limits vs setting limits when paused for extended times the stream will break due to cache filling up, this is the only reason to use zero cache settings to pause for extended periods of time. this is why for most people you can only pause for very short periods without the stream breaking
a side note this is also the reason when watching something and it just stops, its because you got a fast link and cache fills up thus breaking the link.
if your experiencing buffering then likely its a very slow link, and sometimes your ISP however more than likely the link. nothing is wrong with original settings in kodi
if your streaming your media within your network and are having buffering issues you have network issues within your own equipment/network.
good luck

Thanks for the info, ya havnt paused for long periods with zero cache enabled, with the standard setting in kodi I was getting cache full error messages after the first few days of use, it was working perfect up until that point..... Maybe with standard setting, every few days enter maintenance menu add-on and manually clear cache, think I might try that. If that works, than I'll just make a tasker profile that launches kodi and enters the menu and clears the cache, every morning g at lime 4am lol

the cache full should not be an error msg, its letting you know the set cache limit has been reached,
meaning usually if paused or buffering etc.
i experience this with more sd links starting out slow, it buffers, get cache full message video resumes, sometimes it will repeat, sometimes the video just stops, again if the link is going alot faster than you are streaming the cache fills thus breaking the link in turn video just stops. this would be another reason to use zero cache settings, however if you do not have storage expanded on the device its not a good idea to use zero settings. much less if you are streaming HD content links
i have noticed that some files streamed stay hung in the cache, from my understanding the cache of the file should auto dump, in cases in zero cache settings this does not happen, the reason the file's link for whatever reason broke thus not completing, so it stays in storage and not dumping.. this was the case with my aftv and the outcome of 100% storage used, also clearing/using the supposed cache script after these events did not work, so i do not know where the file/files where being stored and aftv does not like 100% storage used period. Can not say how the NP reacts to 100% storage used as i do not use the zero cache settings on this device
to many people are confused what zero cache settings does and what its for
also in zero cache you will never get cache full message as there is no limit.
Exactly. Using the clear cache tools inside of kodi doesn't work for me either. Every week or so, I'll go into nexus settings/apps/kodi/force stop and clear cache. Never had a problem.
Its strange sometimes the player is good sometimes it has troubles buffering, I've also used kodi on my computer that is in the same room. Also on WiFi and picked the exact same link and source and it was buffering like a damn champ..... I find rebooting the nexus player seems to clear things up, I'm suspecting that since we don't really have a recent apps screen that when my kids go play games etc on the nexus player, its being stored in the background eating up the precious ram space thus creating very little room for buffer when not using zero cache. Might try taking off zero cache and create a tasker profile that will kill certain apps (all the games, YouTube etc.) Upon launch on kodi...... I'll report back how it goes
fwiw kodi 16 jarvis is finalized and the GNP running android 6.0.1 can still benefit from loading this xml file.
I put it on my google drive, then copied it over to local storage on the player using es file explorer.
I stream local 1080p content over a 5ghz N connection and the router is in the same room as the player.
