Here's what happens... if I have just GPS enabled (no Wi-Fi), and I tell it to locate my position while I'm at home, it tells me I'm about 5-10 kilometers away. It's in the correct town, but isn't near where I actually am, and I'm standing right in the open, no buildings or anything.
Now, if I enable GPS and Wi-Fi, it tells me I'm currently where I USED to live, which is about 50km away from my real position. The place it tells me I am is actually right near my gym and where I used to live, but I haven't lived there for close to two years but I still frequent the gym.
Anyway, I'm totally confused. I could understand that if I enabled my Wi-Fi and it's telling me that I'm near where I used to live, it could have something to do with having the name of my wireless router cached at that location, even though it hasn't actually existed at that location for two years. What leads me to believe that this is some sort of caching issue is that if I am at work and use the GPS (or anywhere else I don't frequent for that matter) it locates me fine, instantly.
So... what can I do?
Anybody have any idea? This is awfully frustrating...
You could try using GPS status from the market to reset and download your AGPS data?
That fails i would backup data and factory reset as symptoms are of faulty settings . You could also replace the modem .
jje
I'm also having issues, "GPS Status" app sees 10 satellites but never locks. This is outdoors.
With your Wifi location issue, I think that's because the google vehicles collecting street view data recorded your wifi SSID to be at your old house, which is why it thinks you're there.
EDIT: I should also mention, mine worked fine before rooting, then I used Chainfire's kernel to root and I have the issues that we're seeing (JP_XSG_KG2 and ZS_OZS_KG2).
One of the reasons I'm waiting on a proper Canadian Kernel to use.... too many unknowns.
Fixed!
Using a different kernel and ROM (XXKG6, Android 2.3.4):

GPS locks within about 5 seconds outside and network speeds seem to be the normal for Rogers.
Do you have a working 3G connection?
So, I downloaded that GPS app and did everything that it had available... nothing really helped. When I'm anywhere but my house, the GPS locks fairly fast, but can still be somewhat slow.
I believe I was having no issues as well before rooting, and I used CF Root as well. I obviously agree regarding updated firmware from Samsung/Virgin... I'm sure it could very well resolve this and some other issues.
I have a 3G connection... it's always listed as H+ though.

Yep! It indicates 3G when idle, and when I'm using the data connection it switches to H+. Rogers download speeds of ~4Mbps.
I have had GPS stability issues ever since upgrade to Kitkat, namely I get a GPS lock then after 5-10 it looses connection and then takes a few minutes to get connection again.
This process seems to repeat over and over again, making it difficult to reliably use this device for navigation as it drops out so regularly.
I've tried the USSD dialer solution but no joy. My friend has also flashed several ROM and pretty much same result.
So I'm running Stock AU build and wanted to know if anyone has had any traction reporting this to Samsung??
or has any ROM proven to be 100% reliable for GPS navigation etc..

that's not the rom you must change but the modem but always efs backup before flashing modem
So any confirmed modems which absolutely fix the issue?
Nf2 is good modem
I thought the Modem firmware was just related to Cellular radio eg 3G/4G voice and data
Hello!
I have LG Spirit 4G LTE H440N
Location is not working, when I turn off data or not being registered in any network after update to v6.0.1. With v5.0.1 things were kind of fine, laggy sometimes, but overall it was working and now with the same apps with preloaded maps it doesn't work at all. Here's what I've done:
- GPS test app locates good amount of satellites "In View" instantly, but it's always 0 "In Use" with no fix;
- This phone was already two times in warranty repairs (both only because of the problem described here), both times HW was changed. First time they changed some part, don't know what that was, but second time it was mainboard, I have a different IMEI now. Warranty is still ON.
- Tried to use GPS in offline with Samsung Galaxy phone, and it works there on Marshmallow.
Can anyone suggest a solution?
Hi,
I have another issue after the OS upgrade to Mashmallow 6.0.1, it loses the GPS signal every now and then for no reason, so I wasn't able to navigate using google map or waze or other location based Apps. I have to turn the Location setting off and on again a few times, sometimes it took a while, before I get back the GPS.
There is no lack of GPS signals in the area as my other devices are functioning properly. I have been using the phone for more than a year without such issues, started with kitkat then Lollipop, but as soon as I upgrade to Mashmallow the 2 major issues surfaced!
Any advice on how to fix this?
Same for me on my A3 2016 (6.0.1) On A310FXXU2BPG6
GPS signal is lost shortly after starting Google maps or Waze
:crying:
From few days ago my phone started to lose GPS signal, now with every GPS test apps I can see the satellites but it didn't connect to any. I tried different ROMs, came back to MIUI but nothing changed. Is there a way to restore connectivity as I think it's a software problem because I can see satellites, so the antennas work but don't connect?
Have a similar issue, started losing connection to GPS satellites, while using in the car.

Same thing here .
Tried everything
Going to replace the phone
Update:
After one day GPS started working again without doing anything. Maybe it could be related to Android auto as I'm not using it for 2 days and my problems started when I was using it
I am currently on Atom OS and have that issue of not working GPS every time I reoot. Have to disable location service (in quick settings) and reenable them for it to work, This is probably already solved in an updated version of my ROM, but hey, it's a quick try.
I have a similar problem, but I already have several months with my redmi note 7 and after moving to miui 11, the GPS works irregularly. I have seen many comments about problems with the GPS, but I have not seen any explanation from xiaomi

the GPS stopped working properly as if there was not enough signal,
how did you solve it? I see the satellites but a small signal and disappearing.
hardware repair - how?
or software? (goes downgrade miui?)
After update to Miui 11 i hve similar problem with my gps. I'm using app from Play stone - GPS FIX/OPTIMIZER and work fine. If i have problem with gps, run the app and restart.

thank you, the signal is better but still not good. In the woods I used to run when I had my cell phone in my pocket and the signal was OK, now the signal is lost

I'm looking for, but I can't find anywhere, even google didn't help me much
I do not have smart lock in setup / password and security
where it should be in RN7, miui 11
I'm on Cdroid and i find smart lock under security. I had MIUI before and i Remember i had Smart lock too. When you connect a new bluetooth device system should ask you about Smart lock. Try ti search in options
Hi guys
I was having the same problem with the gps connection. after changing my region settings from Brazil to Argentina, the gps returned to work correctly. test by changing the region and always restarting with each change.
My rom: V11.0.5.0.PFGMIXM (MIUI11)
I tried everything
also unlocked the bootloader and tried other rom
fix is not a problem, but the signal is still weak (large inaccuracy), with most satellites up to 20snr
a month ago there was no problem, I suspect the gps antenna, but I do not recall any phone crash, etc.
unfortunately I find nowhere manual, video, where the antenna and how to fix it

try to change the region, restart your smartphone and check for any improvement in the gps signal.
I tried everything, fix is no problem, I catch 12 sometimes more satellites (in open area), but all with low signal. Just go under the edge of the tree, and the signal is very weak and very inaccurate.
