N9005 AU GPS stability issues with 4.4.2 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had GPS stability issues ever since upgrade to Kitkat, namely I get a GPS lock then after 5-10 it looses connection and then takes a few minutes to get connection again.
This process seems to repeat over and over again, making it difficult to reliably use this device for navigation as it drops out so regularly.
I've tried the USSD dialer solution but no joy. My friend has also flashed several ROM and pretty much same result.
So I'm running Stock AU build and wanted to know if anyone has had any traction reporting this to Samsung??
or has any ROM proven to be 100% reliable for GPS navigation etc..

that's not the rom you must change but the modem but always efs backup before flashing modem

So any confirmed modems which absolutely fix the issue?

Nf2 is good modem

I thought the Modem firmware was just related to Cellular radio eg 3G/4G voice and data

[Q] Spica GPS problems

Hi all,
I am trying to find out how widespread the GPS locking problems are with this model. I am talking about non-assisted GPS, which can be tested using the "GPS Test" application on the market.
So, how is the GPS on your phone performing using GPS Test? Please give some detailed information like lock time, number of sattelites, urban/countryside location, and if possible firmware version of your phone.
---
My Spica cannot get a lock at all, will see up to 11 satellites but most of them with signal strength bars at zero. Firmware versions tested (all same result)
1.5 (XEJB2)
2.1 (XXJD1, XXJD4, XXJF2, XXJC3)
Same pb with my wife's spica. Samdroid version with FE7.
Can't lock withour assistance. What a pitty.
Go to your Settings -> Date & Time -> Uncheck Automatic and see if it helps
Or you can try this (need root)
http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/gps-speedup-1262/
http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/fasterfix-1747/ <-- same but easier
i can get a fix under 2 minutes if I stay still...moving, it can take an eternity

i just don't bother with that any more...I might do it again after a month without wiping any data
rooting is like breathing to me ... as it would be to most of the people here
Anyone found a solution yet?
My spica wont connect via gps either. It just keeps blinking and nothing happens...not even after 30min.
I've tried GPStest and it reports that 12 satellites are in view but non in use, and there is no bars everything is at 0...not picking any signal at all :S
I tried my friend's one too and he gets a signal imediatley and a lock after about 10-30seconds.
Any solution to this? Is it a software problem or hardware problem?

I installed the alpha CyanogenMod 2.2 and GPS is working like a charm!
Problem was with the wrong libraries being used in many of the custom roms found at SamdroidMod. Devs found out about this issue and fixed it in this 2.2 release.
I'm running original firmwire which i got on the phone. (XXJE4)
I'm not willing to install alpha cyanogen of froyo yet...Is there really no other solution? I've had a chance to compare my spica to another one with original firmwire (JE4 too) ant that other spica worked while my gps had no lock. Also i had the chance to try one with samdroid on and it worked too.
Mine works from time to time. at the moment it works, earlier today it wouldn't get a lock no matter how long i waited.
First thing-delete /data/xtra.bin- this is data for agps which seems to cause gps locking problem. You can do it with RootExplorer/SUFBS or any file manager with root rights. Or use GPS Status and Reset agps data from setting. You can also try to swap libsec-ril.so, JF2 version works best for me. If you want I can provide update packages for libsec-ril.so
i have installed cyanogenmod 7.1 on mine, and can get a lock under 1min30s outside or under 3min in the bus near the window.
I have a rooted spica with android version: 2.2.2, baseband version: i570EXXJC1, kernel version:2.6.29 and Mod version:SamdroidMod-2.2.2-a9.
When I go to google maps app and click set location I always get an error saying: location temporary unavailable ! I checked the option on Settings->Location and security->Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites. And my phone is connected to the internet.
I just bought the phone last week, and its really embarrassing not getting this to work.

thanks for the useful info, you saved my life by this post.
i thought my gps is wrong in my spica then it was just a bug in the cooked rom. cyanogen mod is cool and gps is working now perfectly.
thanks again!
With spicagenmod + hp/yonip kernel gps work very well.

I9020t on stock 2.3.6 GPS not working.

On Google Navigation, GPS Essentials, GPS Status, it can never get a fix. Everything needed is enabled, tried multiple reboots, etc, still not working. Left it there for like a hour and after still no fix. GPS Essentials doesn't even see any satellites while trying to get a fix.
Any fixes for me or is this just a hardware issue?
Are you testing in a big open area? That's where I would test first. Is your 3G data working? With 3G data, it locks significantly faster than without it.
Tested in both outdoors and indoors by a window, doesn't even see 1 satellite.
3G data is enabled.
Might be a HW thing. Try flashing stock 2.3.4.
Hi , i had this problem but after several weeks and many searches this thread helped me to solve:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260079
hope to help you too
Hmm, what exactly did you do? I've already cleared the Gps cache multiple times.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
everything has expressed there...
Can you explain what you did step by step? In the other thread you just said how it just worked after a month...
Thanks,

it's definitely a hardware issue, have the same problems.
SNR values stay below 30! Insufficient to get a good fix.
Tested many gps fix apps, all not able to solve.
Fixed my problem by using an external Bluetooth GPS Antenna (old Nokia) and GPS Bluetooth app from the Market. Now GPS fix in seconds, SNR values above 40.. constant fix never looses signal etcetc...
Antenna on device is to weak!

of course ,see the post no.9 in that thread
i did that by using XXKD1 radio ,now i'm on XXKF1 and think it has weaker GPS config....
edit : dont forget to turn on GPS and WiFi for downloading data

Optimus 7 GPS issue - Which firmware to use?

Hi guys, I have a Optimus 7 from germany (which is sim unlocked and comes with the vodafone DE firmware)
I am updated to mango and unfortunately my GPS does not work. The phone is unable to get a lock and the accuracy is stuck at 350m (which AFAIK, is the phone getting the location from a cell tower/mobile network)
I have read on a few topics that the GPS issue is vodafone DE firmware specific. What is the reccomended firmware that has a fully functioning GPS lock and has the full wifi tethering ability?
BTW: I have tried a few fixes in regards to this issue (i.e. going into the registry) but they never worked GPS was working fine pre mango.
Thanks!
...i had same issue ,wich is resolved by starting maps while driving for 5 mins.
After i had gps reception ( maps are more accurate ) i never turned it off (gps reciver) wich has no impact on battery life.Maybe ull need to start application several times while driving.
-First off all, i rebooted phone...
Thanks for your reply. I flashed my phone with the Open firmware using the guide on the hacking page and it seemed to have done its trick
Np...that guide made me do all those things that i rply-ed to you

Note 3 GPS fix trouble. [custom room]

I've been runningrunning custom roms from day 1 on my device, but I every one I try has trouble when trying to find a stable gps signal, most gos dependant apps will work fluidly for little more than a minute or two, and then just complain the gps signal is unsuitable for navigation or pinpointing my location.
I have this problem on many roms, both tw and cyano based, and i haar al relevant options enabled.
what can i do to guarantee a sable GPS connection? (btw i live in Spain)
Very common known issue i did hear someone using crom and a fresh clean install ie no restore worked, so you could try factory reset first

Ok, I'll give it a factory reset. I changed my gps.conf by the way, now it's better but the signal is pretty weak. How can I keep my gps.conf updated

i9500 GPS issues

Hi.
I've recently upgraded my i9500 to 4.4.2 (stock XXUFNC2).
Everything works since the update except for GPS. I've tried plenty of "solutions"; AGPS Data, resetting it, etc. I'm positive I'm on the correct server for my region. The issue is the awful satellite signal I'm receiving. It "freezes" and loses signal every 2 seconds or so and I'm unable to drive with that. What do you guys suggest?
