N9005 nandroid backup - CWM - Backup Size? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I've just made a nandroid backup from cwm recovery to my external sd card. I have the 32gb variant and the 16gb is used but my nandroid backup made by cwm is 3.8gb.. I've searched in the cwm menu for more options to backup my phone but i didnt see any. e.g. full backup etc. It only has backup and advanced restore? I think that the size of the backup would be 16gb.. Have I done something wrong?

Flash Philz you have more options than cwm but not sure that you can do it completely

Thank you for your advice. I will try Philz as soon as I can. I've customized my omega rom so much with xposed modules etc.. and it's the most beautiful customization I've ever done to my phone and I don't want to lose anything! It's my ideal customization! I've added some s5 features - icons etc and nova launcher with icon packs - played with dpi etc and it' very beautiful! Thank you even if it doesn't work. You've got +1 Thanks from me

If i understand you right, you want to make a backup of your sd card ? You can't do that with a recovery backup. And you don't need to. The rom isn't on the sd card. The 3.8 gb is just right, it made a backup of your rom, that's all you need. You can backup your card to your computer, if you want.
And btw, it's forbidden to bump up your thread in less than 24 hours. People are not just sitting here waiting to answer your questions. Patience.

If you are still unsure, the backup did backup everything (apps, settings, app settings...). It didn't backup your personal files (pictures, music, videos,...). That's not the purpose of recovery backups.
It makes an "image" of your current rom, your personal files it's best to backup them to your computer.

Hello,
nandroid is a backup tool. It is run from recovery mode, and makes a copy of the internal memory of the phone and saves it on the SD-card. It can also backup the apps installed on the SD-card in the same manner. It is often used when flashing new roms to the phone, since it provides a means to fully restore the phone to the previous state.
Br,
Henrik
So if i did a nandroid back up on my phone it would back up everything onto my sd card and then restore it to its original state (ie nothing).
J

Yes, the nandroid image on the SD card is an exact copy of the relevant parts of the phones internal storage, so when doing a restore everything will be back as it were before. If, however, you have apps installed on the SD card using Froyos apps2sd (which stores the applications on the ordinary fat32 partition of the SD card) those applications is not backed up. Nandroid includes functionality for backing up apps installed on a ext partition, though.
Personally I use Titanium backup to backup applications when I'm changing ROMs.
Br,
Henrik
Does Nandroid overwite previously made backups, or will it make a new backup every time? In case of the latter, can you choose from recovery wich backup you want to restore?
(Before I flashed my Hero, I made a Nandroidbackup of the original ROM. I don't want risk loosing this backup when I make another Nandroidbackup.)
I think it overwrites, but i'm not sure.
No, it doesn't overwrite the old backups. You can choose which image to restore.
Br,
Henrik
Tanks for your reply!

Cloning The Contents of One Nexus 4 Onto Another

I have a rooted Nexus 4 that is full of apps and files. I just received a new Nexus 4 (hardware rev_11) and I want to recreate my old Nexus' contents on the new one.
Do I have to do this manually with Titanium Backup, or is there an easier way to do this?

Do I need to root the new phone first before doing this? And do I need to install the same version of ClockWorkMod Recovery on the new one as well before I restore a Nandroid?
yes root the new phone. Get CWM on it then restore your back up. and unroot old phone and lock boot loader and ship it back

Yes, you do need to root the new phone as well. The same version of CWM is not necessary, however.

1. Does a Nandroid backup/restore also include the contents of the internal SDcard? I have folders with pdfs, music files, etc...
2. I'm on rooted version of the stock rom. How exactly do I revert to stock? Is there a toolkit that includes the stock image?

No, nandroid doesn't backup the SD card partition. Back that up yourself. As for reverting to stock, refer to this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312

Internal sd card can easily be backed up by plugging into your computer as mtp. Make sure you have your drivers installed if using windows. For mac i think you download an app called Android File Transfer.

So Nandroid doesn't back up the Android and data folders as well as other app folders? The Android and data folders appear in the same main drive with many other folders...? Do I back them up and restore them as well?

A nandroid backs up everything but the SD card. That is the only thing you have to manually backup.

SD card refers to /mnt/sdcard, not an actual SD card. The nandroid backs up your device's entire hard drive, except /mnt/sdcard. The nandroid is saved here. This means you should manually backup /mnt/sdcard.

if you watch a nandroid backup, it looks like it only backs up /system and /data. your whole internal sdcard doesnt get backed up in a nandroid as far as i know.
just manually transfer your files (music, pictures, files, etc) with your computer.

i think they are in /media/data/0/clockwordmod/backup
you will have to use a file manager (root explorer or whatever your choice) to move the backup into 0 folder so you can access it from your computer to save onto the harddrive.

I'm getting the idea that you guys have left out some crucial details here. I relocked the bootloader, unrooted and removed CWM. Then I flashed the Google Factory Stock Rom, and I'm getting an incomplete OS. It's missing the Dialer and it has Awesome Beats!
Can someone advise me what to do? I'm supposed to deliver the phone in stock condition in 40 minutes! I'm using the Nexus 4 Toolkit!
I did this with my replacement from a rev_10 to another rev_10, worked fine.
I did it from a rev_10 to a rev_11, broke root and some apps that use SD including screenshots. Fixed root with reflash but i still can't screenshot. Guess I'll start from scratch

Weird. What do you mean it has "Awesome Beats!"?
Meanwhile, you can try this link: http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-4/occam/ , but I'm pretty sure that the file I posted earlier is the same one.

How do I bring back the stock recovery?

If you mean restoring a Titianium backup of users apps and data, then yes. If you mean restoring TB backup of system apps and data or a CWM/TWRP nandroid backup then NO.

Copy the Titanium backup file from the pc to the phones`d sd card. Install TB from Play, open it and you can restore the user apps and data.
I recommend carbon. Made it very painless to move over everything when I exchanged my defective nexus 4

No, TB needs root. Carbon doesn`t need root. Maybe something to think about for the future. It is quite new but it works well.
First time hear of carbon. I've used TB for 2 years. Is this carbon as powerful as TB?

No it doesn`t have as many options and settings as TB (yet), but there is no root required for Carbon. It backups apps and data or just the data and stores it in the cloud (Dropbox or Google Drive) or on the sdcard (you`re choice). Look in Google Play for more info.
But without root, how will it able to restore the WIFI access point? As I know, only able to access WIFI with rooting

internal storage recovery tool needed

hey guys,
i have a very serious problem and im already searching the internet for a solution since hours.
i had to make a factory reset and lost all my fpse savedata.i was playing many hours of FF8(70+) and these savegames are really important for me.
i made a nandroid backup which is broken and restored the fpse app with titanium backup with no luck.
does anyone know a file recovery program which works with the s4s mtp protocol?
most recovery programs on windows don´t recognize the s4s storage
would be very thankful for any help
thanks

What do you mean by broken nandroid? If possible, try to view the nandroid backup and manually extract the savedata. This can be done by using Nandroid manager.
If you want to get back your data forensically, it would be very troublesome. I know as I'm currently studying digital forensic for my course. You might also not be able to recover the files if the data had been overwritten.
Tried hexamob bit it doesn't work with the internal storage,my problem with my nandroid backup is that i can't restore it using CWM.
Nandroid manager sounds good but i don't think that my savefiles are included cause they are stored on sdcard/.fpse im not sure but i guess the nandroid backup doesn't include the internal sdcard?

Depending on what recovery you used and how you did your nandroid backup.
If you did a custom/advanced backup and selected specific partition to backup, there's a high chances that you might not have backed up internal sdcard partition.
If you chose the 'backup to external sdcard' option, there's probably a high chance that internal sdcard is backup too.
You should really try out the Nandroid Manager to see if your backup has internal sdcard partition.

[Q] Wipe data & Titanium Backup

Hey there. I have what I bet is a silly question for most here. Anyhow, here goes:
I have my user apps and data backed up with Titanium Backup. Am on stock Lollipop, but will flash CM12 eventually. As it requires a data wipe, my question is how to "save" backed up data in TIBackup so that I can restore everything I need after flashing?
Is everything stored in some specific file/folder that I need to copy to my PC and copy it back on my SD card after flashing CM? Or is it something else?
Thanks in advance.
