Hello, i switched on my dual this morning to find the screen mirrored, it seemed to be working fine, just that all the text and graphics were as though it were viewed in a mirror.
A reset solved this. I have not installed any new software on the device. Its a ordinary Orange UK rom. Its been working fine since end of November when i bought it and this is the first time this has happened.
Any idea what happened to it?
Cheers
No idea mate, but it happened to me once last week.
I was rushing out the door trying to load the MP3 player, a text came in and I assumed it was because I had mashed too many onscreen buttons at once. Obviously not, going by what you've just said.
Like you though, a soft reset righted the screen and it hasn't happened since. My other thought was that it might be hardware-related - loose connection or something similar
Sounds cool
Never had this issue though.
I had exactly the same problem! It's obvious that it is a common failure, so I hope we'll get a patch soon to solve all these issues.
Hi, new to posting here but I've found great help reading before, so I thought I'd ask as I can't see anything elsewhere...
I seem to have a problem with my phone. When I get an incoming call, the white popup which is supposed to notify me of my call appears off the screen. I get the top of the notification, which says O2 - UK (network) and I get the top couple pixels of any images I have for users on the right, but everything else is below the bottom of the screen.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
It seems to sort itself out when I reboot the device, but then (and I have spent hours unsuccessfully trying to pin down when) it starts occurring again. I can't work out what I do to make it go wrong. I've tried uninstalling themes/programs all to no avail.
The other solution (which I've not had any luck finding yet) would be some software which gave an alternative call notification. Does anyone know of any of these?
Thanks
Andrew
Help! after an hour outside i wanted to use my phone and it returned the message "missing SIM" with the missing sim symbol in the top bar.
this has happened before, and the phone also shuts off by itself. it went of to a "repair" shop(for 4 wks), only to return with the message: OS reloaded.
Now it happend again, and in the meantime i received a link from a friend for this website.
i have tried soft and hard reset, it did not help. has anyone else got experience with this problem? was it due to moisture collection in the phone? (cold outside, phone was shielded) or too much temp. difference?
Thanks
It's a done deal
Well just had news from the shop, they now replaced the main board, and last repair they replaced the front and screen... short of the back that makes a whole new phone doesn't it?
a saw thru the many reply's that it is a common fault..
Soon i will put my hands to work on a new ROM load. lets see if that works
CASE CLOSED.
Been using mine for a couple of weeks, but just now the touch screen has been acting up. Sometimes it responds sluggishly and sometimes not at all.
At first I thought it was one of my apps running in the background, but even after a soft-reset, the touch screen still doesn't work. Can't even enter the PIN to my sim card.
Found that if I gave the screen a few solid taps here and there, the screen would start working again.
This happen to anyone else?
I've got the same issue. I can't find any reliable way of getting the screen to respond apart from to get someone to call me and then after some bashing on the screen it starts working again. I've even updated to the latest ROM in the hope it would cure the problem - but it didn't. I contacted HTC support they offered to repair the device...

Yep, that happened to me plus the screen started jittering with some weird actions. I sold the device and ordered a new one, to be delivered dec.19.

I've contacted Handtec about the issue, my phone's just marginally inside their 28 day replacement policy so hopefully I can get a new one out of them.
I tried a hard-reset before, didn't fix it. And I've found that if I place my entire palm over the screen and give it a bit of a squeeze then that restores life to the screen for hours or days at a time

Sounds like the connectors under the screen came loose, either because it was dropped or just shouldn't have passed QA. Definitely a candidate for repair/replacement.
By the way, if this happened even after 28 days you would still be covered by warranty...no matter what some dodgy resellers say

Oh of course, but the regular warranty process is to repair the phone. Being so new, I'd want a replacement.
For what it's worth, I posted a message asking about this same fault a couple of weeks ago but with no replies. I emailed HTC and they said it was probably a hardware fault and to either send it to them for repair or contact my supplier (O2). I spoke to O2 and they suggested that it might be because my SIM card is a few years old and suggested trying a new one. I thought this was worth a go so they sent me a new card but the screen still becomes unresponsive and the fault also survives a reset. In fairness to O2, they are now sending me a replacement unit which should arrive on Monday.

The same thing happened to me. I think it was because I left it in my hot car. HTC fixed the problem, for free, inside warranty, and just sent me back my phone 2 days ago. It's even got a brand new screen. NO SCRATCHES>

I sent my back and the first time it came back and worked for a week and then stopped working completely. I sent it back a second time, they paid for shipping and ordered a new screen and replaced the old. Nice thing, I bought the phone used and the warranty was still intact.
Hey there, i have a problem with my HTC Magic. I have had it in about 2 months, where it worked fine. Suddenly it couldn't get a signal to a network. When i try to connect to my network it says "Your sim-card dosen't allow a connection to this network" can anyone help me out with this? I've got HTC Sense on my mobile.
Same issue with stock Donut
I too experienced the same problem when traveling through Atlanta airport. This was a stock MyTouch Donut. After arriving at my next destination my phone worked once again.
I have initially rooted my phone today with Cyanogen latest. I am looking for the fastest ROM I can find without all the bells and whistles. After finding said such, I will be updating my radio.
I have had other strange issues with the radio on this phone. T-MO support suggested replacing the phone. However, I don't think the phone is the problem it's their lack of bug fixes.
I've got the same problem, 2 different sim cards on 2 different networks and both are showing no service and not finding any networks, but both are working in my old Nokia E65. Strangest thing, I checked my email over 3G earlier today, an hour later no service and has not changed since. Tried everything I can think of; nandroid restore, hard reset, safe mode, checked the testing menu. Only thing I haven't done is unroot and return to stock. It's funny, I always knew something would go wrong with this phone... Womans intuition maybe?
Willing to try anything that anyone has to suggest so I don't have to send it back to vodafone!
yea, i've tried everything too, at can't get it to work! - hope someone got a solution to this!

Well I called HTC and got the name of their authorised repairer in Australia (currently on an extended holiday visiting family here), so I unrooted and returned to stock but the issues haven't changed, so I guess we can nail down that it has nothing to do with the rom itself. The repairer did hint at a motherboard issue, but as I was playing the dumb blonde at the time I didn't push it too far until I send it off. It's just painful, I've searched and searched for a fix but most people seem to be able to find a network after a reboot or by simply waiting it out. 24 hours without my Magic being able to function in it's primary use, as a phone. This is very very poor.
I have had the exact same problem, so I unrooted and all. send it in for repairs. and all Vodacom(South Africa) told me was that they replaced the main board.luckly its covered by the warrenty. hope it helps..

Thank awesome to hear its a simple fix, but not so great that it's not a totally rare incident. I'm waiting til all the fuss of Easter is over to send my poor baby off to be fixed, but in the mean time I've bought a Hero so I'll never have to go back to my Nokia E65 again. I'm wondering, as there are other Magic owners with the same problem, is this an issue with just the Magic, or all HTC devices?
hey i still have the same prob with my 32b
i will do a radio update,
will see if it's fixed then,
if not i try to unroot
This has to be almost a year old lol.
