There's red hue on the center when taking pictures. Very visible while looking at white walls. I had the same problem on my s3 and its driving me crazy!!! Do anyone else have his problem or I got a defect?
I can't upload a picture because my phone ran out of memory to do so... Why..
You gave us almost zero information with which to help you. At best we could only make speculative and random guesses without that critical information. If your memory is full, then delete something so that you can take a picture and upload it.
Also tell us what model of S5 you have, the firmware version, which camera app you are using, what your camera settings are.. any discernible patterns: e.g. whether this occurs in all camera modes or only some of them (which ones?), only when using the flash? only for near shots? or only for distant ones? only in dim light, etc. And anything else that is even remotely pertinent for a start.

I'm using T-Mobile s5. The latest version KitKat I believe. It is very obvious when I'm facing a blank white wall on dim lighting. No flash..

has anybody else had trouble with the camera when taking pics. Does not happen all the time. Just seemingly after every picture that I want so an intermittent and annoying problem.
"Unable to save the captured image. Unable to get data from camera device 36001:510:2"
Sometimes a reset shakes it off but it always comes back later...
Yup. The camera is basically rubbish and so is the stability/performance of the camera software. I usually find the first photo takes a second or so to take...after that I've known it take 15-20 seconds from pressing the button to it taking the photo. Utterly useless, really - too reliant on software that does not have priority over other stuff happening on the device.
In fact, if I know I want to take a photo, I reset the phone first. Sad but true.
Well at least its not just mine.
Is this the sort if thing that can be fixed later on with a software upgrade?

Oh, I've no doubt it could be fixed. I totally doubt it will be fixed though.. .depends how many people actually wanted to use the camera and complain to their provider.
hey i've got the problem with taking a picture in the night modus. it just blocks and doesnt react to anything anymore, does anyone recognize this problem and knows how to solve it?
please let me know

yup i get that too
hope they fix it
Not having any such problems so far, although I havent hammered the camera as such but every time I have used it its been fine. Took a few pics and some vids.
I just remembered: I think I was getting this problem all the time while I had the capture size set to 1 megapixel. Reducing it to 640 x 480 seemed to help. (You won't be missing much with this camera anyway!)
Mines set to 1m. Its not the best camera in the world, but it does its job.
Since setting to 640x480 i have not had the problem.
I want to know if other people have the same problem. My phones camera has no fill effect. The little lightning bolt icon is to turn on flashlight but on my phone it works as an auto flash effect instead, so it doesnt stay on. This is just for taking pictures, when I record video, the flashlight stays on and it works fine. I bought my phone used and im wondering if its a hardware problem or programed to be like that. Is there anyway to fix this problem, like a CAB file installation, or a rom? I see that the UK hd2 has fill light and an auto, so my guess is that the USA version had the option removed due to the blinding double LEDs, but im not sure, it might just be my phone. Does anyone know?
Mine functions the same way. No fill. I think it's programmed that way. It does take nice pictures though...
Yea it takes real nice photos. Zoom could be better. Ive been trying to fix my flash for some time but i havent found any solutions yet, im hoping someone will reply with an answer.
Thats how its suppose to work. As referenced, FILL flash is used in bright overhead or back light situations to eliminate shadows on subjects. Thats why you have the Auto Flash, Flash On, No Flash. The auto mode will not flash if more then 40% of the metered area is bright enough. It would be great if someone could make a CAB. to turn the light on when you touched the screen to focus in dark situations.
That makes sense. But I think there might be a way to keep it on. Before i bought the phone 4 months ago i looked up some reviews and demonstrations on youtube and it seems that the UK hd2 had the flash on effect. He had an options that said flashlight on and when clicked the light stayed on, ill find the link later. It was the same lightning bolt icon. But at least now i know its not a hardware issue.
While checking the camera I noticed a few symptoms:
[-](Taking photos at night/low light): with/without flash sometimes the photo saved with 1pixel white line (sometimes 2 pixels), the line is random and change to each photo - at the top starting left / left starting buttom (depend on which way you take the picture), here is a sample of picture with this line (circled) at the buttom.
I've found it happens sometimes while taking picture in low light/dark/night, have no idea why is that and what the reason of this.
[-]Another thing while taking picture at low light/dark background with flash: dosn't matter how you focus (auto focus/manual-touching the screen/long press on the button) seems like you should take a few photos of the same image to get a 'satisfactory' picture - I took few pictures on the same place and got some too 'flashy' photo, some too darky (seems like the flash was too fast) and some was what I've expected (OK), at the dark pictures seems the +2 exposure didn't help (didn't notice any difference between 0 to +2, but there is a difference between -2 to 0) -> seems you getting different photos on same shot image and must take few shots to get what you expect to get.
[-]The picture that seems to save after taking a shot sometimes looks different then what its realy saved, for example you taking a picture with flash - its looks like its saving a too lighty/flashy-full flash picture but when you open the gallery you see the picture is fine.
[-]HDR mode: sometimes when its getting focus (manualy or automatically) its not possible to change the focus and any attemp to manual focus (while touching on places on the screen) is do nothing and seems its stuck on the last focus.
[-]Video: sometimes seems its stuck on focus - after focusing on macro/closer image and taking time (if so) to release the focus to infinity, if it dosn't release the only way to fix it is to renter the camera app and record video again.
[-]At day light / regular conditions - great and sharp photos but seems its more grainy then other cameras, especially photos with sky (the sky).
Overall its a great camera, all the above are not something that should disturb someone, I didn't forgot its 'just' a smartphone camera, you can always get better results using 'SnapSeed' app
Does anyone else notice these (or some of these) symptoms and have any knowledge how to get it better or solutions or maybe insights about these symptoms? (the using of camera) would like to get some information...
Anyway - do you recommand other Camera applications? I tried Focal - seems its still have a lil bugs, FV-5 (on my S2) ...
Thanks!
Today I've notice a bug [seems like a real one this time]:
When took a photos: low light + flash (macro focus if its matter), while I took few pictures one after another the camera app got stuck and reboot the device.
I've tried it without flash and didn't got reboot, then its happens again while I've checked at the same condition (low light and flash on).
Also notice that none of these photos (that freeze the app and reboot my device) are saved correctly seems like its 'break' pictures that didn't saved well...
Anyway after I manualy reboot the device and tried it again it wasn't crash/freeze/reboot device.
Just mention that I'm using the stock camera app at stock rom 4.2.2 without root or anything...also my device was on for few days (without any reboot).
Does anyone have any idea about this bug or other symptoms that I had mention at the 1st post?

I have the same problem as you are describing. I have reproduce it on stock 4.3, cm 10.1.3 and cm 10.2.
I just reproduced it after I took like 100 photos. The Phone just rebooted after a short hang.
Maybe this is a hardware fault on some devices. When did you bought your Phone? Mine is the white one just a week old. Rev 11. If that says something.

Seems like the flash heat the cpu or something like that...happened again today (without purpose) after few focus with flash few photos with flas..at regular photo without flash (straight after) it got stuck and reboot the device.
Then I tried to get it again but now with Camera360 app, lots of focus flash, photos with flash,without....seems works fine.
Maybe a stock app problem, guess anyway its the flash (another guy got reboot after using flashlight app).
There is any app that I could determine the CPU temperature even after reboot/turn off (like GSAM graph or the built in Battery graph that show all day and not only when you turn on /reboot device and start a new one every time)?
Btw - the device is only month old (from play uk), my serial# start with 304k, whats yours?
Yesterday night I had this again, only 2 photos with flash, take a look at the gallery and got freeze then reboot.
The device was cold [also wifi was off this time, I didnt tought its something to do with it anyway just mention] so nothing about hot cpu...
It might be something with the stock app and/or stock gallery app [maybe the swipping thing from camera to gallery and vice versa], as I tried again camera360 with lots of flash, focus flash and lots of photos and seems it was fine.
Very weird.
What camera app do you guys recommands?
I think it's an issue with the AOSP camera app. My rev. 10 211k Nexus 4 does this sometimes when taking a picture with flash on. It hasn't done it with a flashlight app ever though. I haven't encountered this issue with Focal, but I don't like Focal much.

Yeah, seems like its something with the stock camera app... I really like the stock one, Focal is almost the same with some more options but it isn't stable yet.
I found camera360 doing great job but I like the stock-clean design more...
Anyway I hope the new KitKat version will fix it.
BTW - any reason/idea about the first symptom that i've mentioned in the first post? [the white 1pixel line], and about the stuck focus on HDR mode?

I've got a rev 11 White too, I've got a strange Issue, if I take a photo with the stock rom with flash on with and without touch to focus everything seems to be right; If I take a photo with a CM based ROM without touch to focus I obtain an almost black picture, could it be an hardware issue?
And one kiddish doubt , why we can't take 16:9 pics ? Any idea ? Or it is possible and am I missing something ?

I've notice it too, also with stock, I mentioned it as well - seems like we need to take few photos of the same thing to get and chooce the better result, I've found it sometimes the flash is too fast and its taking the photo just before the led turn off or before its turn on fully... something like that. but its on flash photos most of the time.
Try taking 10 shots of the same thing, you could notice a difference between some of the pictures. (BTW I think its happens with and without touch focus; it dosn't matter)

I guess some other camera app (3rd party) would have this option... anyway I'm still waiting for any recommand about a good camera application...
Hey guys, so I've been loving the phone in almost every way until today when I finally used it to take video for the first time. I bought a tripod attachment for my MXPE and was trying to film a short video of me talking in front of a blank white wall. When I went back to look, the video was constantly refocusing with a terrible zoom in/out effect. Now that I've done some testing it happens whether on a tripod, or in my hand. Even on a static background, it will eventually refocus. If there's any movement, whether I'm panning from side to side or something is moving on the video it will refocus. Here's a short example. Don't be fooled by thinking I'm doing some crazy trick with my hand here, it will noticeably refocus for any reason, including me just moving my hands while talking in front of it. Also keep in mind the phone is on a stable tripod, so any movement is entirely the camera or software. I just didn't want to get on camera or show significant parts of where I live. I've searched to see if anyone else has this problem and unfortunately all I found was a reddit thread with almost no responses. I should say I'm on stock, no modifications to my phone. The camera is set to save to internal memory so micro sd shenanigans aren't a factor either. I've used the stock app, Google Camera and Open Camera and they all exhibit this refocusing behavior.
So what's up, are other people experiencing this also, or is my otherwise great phone working with a somehow busted camera? It takes photos just fine, though now that I think about it, it does the same zoom in/out refocusing when I move the camera photo mode too. I remember trying to take a picture of a spider and the camera wouldn't stop trying to focus long enough for me to get a clear shot. Is this a software deal, or do I need to talk to Motorola? If it's a software deal, why is no one else talking about this?
Edit: I used the "focus lock" shortcut in Open Camera and was able to make it stop. But that means I can't use the default app or Google Camera. What the heck guys?
Its an issue in low light (indoors) when the subject moves. I submitted a complaint with video sample on the official forums and moto responded it was expected for thr camera to re-search for focus when the subject moves.
However I later received an email from the moto camera team asking them for more information which I provided. Who knows maybe they are trying to improve it.
This issue exists on the nexus 6 also and is much worse btw.
I've made the same test and got similar results.
It seems that each time a new element appears the camera tends to change the focus, it looks like it trying to adapt to the new situation.
I'm also no happy with this issue.
Please keep posting if there's any news from Motorola.
Yes, definitely. I shoot a lot of videos of people playing piano, and it's constantly refocusing because the hands never stop moving. :/
Hopefully, this will be fixed in the future.
I have been having the exact same problem recently. For me, it's not even when the subject is moving. Take this video of my son for example ( drive.google.com/file/d/12BqfnL7OoEvV3CSWim-OCgxiHID4mrMeFQ/view ). Notice that it keeps refocusing even though he and the camera are barely moving. There seemed to be plenty of light coming in the window. Is there no way to fix this?
FYI, I finally contacted Motorola Support about this issue because it is so bad, in my case, and they instructed me to send in my phone for repair. Twelve days later, I receive my phone back, and the camera still has issues with focusing while using the camera. I wrote them back to find out what they are going to do now, so I will update here when I hear back. This is SO FRUSTRATING. I would not advise buying a Moto X Pure for the time-being, if you want a functioning video camera.
You can lock focus on the stock camera app by long pressing the focus bracket. I don't know if this was added recently but I found this thread among several others on google search and none of them mentioned it. Cheers!
I forgot to update here after my debacle finished.
Motorola Support had me send in my phone again soon after I got it back from them the first time. I asked them why nothing changed with the phone, and the tech said they mis-marked the problem in their system as a problem with the flash. /sigh So all they did was replace the flash and return the phone. What a waste.
The next time I sent in the phone, they just went ahead and replaced the phone entirely. I got back the new phone, and guess what? Exact. Same. Problem.
I finally posted the video on YouTube where the camera constantly refocuses, and a user suggested downloading a totally different camera app, like "Camera MX." I did so, and immediately noticed a huge difference! I couldn't believe the majority of the focusing problem was caused by Motorola's buggy Camera app, but that does seem to be the case. Unbelievable.
So if you have this problem, download another camera app like "Camera MX," and it should help the refocusing problem a ton.
Hello everyone,
this is my first post here on XDA, so I hope I'm following standards here.
I got my second OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 6T (Mirrorblack 8GB+128GB) about two weeks ago and it has really been an upgrade from my previous OnePlus 3. However I have had some issues that make the overall impression a bit worse.
My first problem is with the camera. When taking pictures with the flash it turns the flash one for a while then turns if off for a moment before turning it back on and taking the picture. This super annoying when you are posing with a couple of friends! This doesn't happend when using the front facing flash feature. Also when you take picture with Snapchat the camera also is super slow. However it's the inverse as enabling the flash makes the camera much faster. I'm not sure if it's an OnePlus issue or an Snapchat one, I know snapchat has lots of problems so could be on their end. I also know that I didn't have the issue on my OnePlus 3.
My second problem is one that have happend very rarely, two or three times yet. It's that sometimes when I start an app, it just crashes. And I can restart it how many times I want without any difference. Force stopping it does work sometimes as with clearing cache. But sometimes doing that makes the device reboot itself. Sometimes it just keeps on rebooting itself. The solution for it as it seems is to reboot it manually, but it's extremely annoying to have it happen. It's difficult to know whats wrong since it doesn't say anything useful really.
Does anyone else have similar issues? Could it be some corruption issue or some bad app I have installed?
Do a factory reset. As for the camera that's called a slow sync with the flash as its getting the picture ready and focused, that short flash at the end is to light the picture. If it stayed on the whole time it would blind you subject as its brighter than the front camera and would most likely give red eye.
I don't have a suggestion for your second problem as I have not experienced it but also about the camera thing you mentioned, it doesn't happen when you take a picture with the front with the fake flash because the front camera has a fixed focus so it doesn't have to acquire focus like the back camera does when lighting in a dim environment.

This happens for the following reason:
- first flash - phone usues auto focus to make you and your friends, dog, food or whatever you are shooting clear and the
- second flash - after it achieves the AF lock it flashes a little bit brighter to take the photo
If you use a digital camera, DSLR, or any other camera, you will notice that they have a led light that iluminates you in the dark, then uses the xenon flash to take the photo

If you take the picture in the dark it might just try to achieve AF lock. Activating the flash does that a little faster.

You can try reflashing Oxygen OS and see if this still happens. If it does sent it to warranty
