[Q] Camera Flash Problem (fill effect) - HD2 General

I want to know if other people have the same problem. My phones camera has no fill effect. The little lightning bolt icon is to turn on flashlight but on my phone it works as an auto flash effect instead, so it doesnt stay on. This is just for taking pictures, when I record video, the flashlight stays on and it works fine. I bought my phone used and im wondering if its a hardware problem or programed to be like that. Is there anyway to fix this problem, like a CAB file installation, or a rom? I see that the UK hd2 has fill light and an auto, so my guess is that the USA version had the option removed due to the blinding double LEDs, but im not sure, it might just be my phone. Does anyone know?

Mine functions the same way. No fill. I think it's programmed that way. It does take nice pictures though...

Yea it takes real nice photos. Zoom could be better. Ive been trying to fix my flash for some time but i havent found any solutions yet, im hoping someone will reply with an answer.

Thats how its suppose to work. As referenced, FILL flash is used in bright overhead or back light situations to eliminate shadows on subjects. Thats why you have the Auto Flash, Flash On, No Flash. The auto mode will not flash if more then 40% of the metered area is bright enough. It would be great if someone could make a CAB. to turn the light on when you touched the screen to focus in dark situations.

That makes sense. But I think there might be a way to keep it on. Before i bought the phone 4 months ago i looked up some reviews and demonstrations on youtube and it seems that the UK hd2 had the flash on effect. He had an options that said flashlight on and when clicked the light stayed on, ill find the link later. It was the same lightning bolt icon. But at least now i know its not a hardware issue.

Problems taking pictures.

has anybody else had trouble with the camera when taking pics. Does not happen all the time. Just seemingly after every picture that I want so an intermittent and annoying problem.
"Unable to save the captured image. Unable to get data from camera device 36001:510:2"
Sometimes a reset shakes it off but it always comes back later...
Yup. The camera is basically rubbish and so is the stability/performance of the camera software. I usually find the first photo takes a second or so to take...after that I've known it take 15-20 seconds from pressing the button to it taking the photo. Utterly useless, really - too reliant on software that does not have priority over other stuff happening on the device.
In fact, if I know I want to take a photo, I reset the phone first. Sad but true.
Well at least its not just mine.
Is this the sort if thing that can be fixed later on with a software upgrade?

Oh, I've no doubt it could be fixed. I totally doubt it will be fixed though.. .depends how many people actually wanted to use the camera and complain to their provider.
hey i've got the problem with taking a picture in the night modus. it just blocks and doesnt react to anything anymore, does anyone recognize this problem and knows how to solve it?
please let me know

yup i get that too

Not having any such problems so far, although I havent hammered the camera as such but every time I have used it its been fine. Took a few pics and some vids.
I just remembered: I think I was getting this problem all the time while I had the capture size set to 1 megapixel. Reducing it to 640 x 480 seemed to help. (You won't be missing much with this camera anyway!)
Mines set to 1m. Its not the best camera in the world, but it does its job.
Since setting to 640x480 i have not had the problem.

seem to have killed autofocus

well, i'm not really sure what i did but i seem to have managed to stop autofocus from working. this is a real problem because it means the barcode scanners can't focus.
i haven't been monkeying around in root or anything (obviously) just installing and uninstalling random apps, but i'm at the bottom of the android learning curve and don't really know how to begin trouble shooting this.
any advice on where to begin would be appreciated.
thanks
I actually think I may have a very similar issue (as it ONLY happens when using a bar code scanning app) but I thought it was just me. Is this what is happening to you...
When I am using a bar code scanning app, the camera starts focusing on the image and just as it gets in focus, it goes out of focus again and then repeats this cycle endlessly. Sometimes it is able to get a lock before it focuses again but not always. I thought it might be a low light issue. I tried turning up the light and it wasn't much different though.
I have this problem, too. I can't focus the camera, it makes the sound, but there is no change at all in the focus when I tap to focus. Also, barcode reader / shop savvy is useless, as the focus on the barcode never occurs.
It seems like this happened when I went to 2.2 via one of many ROMs I've tried.
I suppose it could just be a hardware issue?
What rom and radio are you guys using?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Virtuous 2.7 with the default adrynalyne Kernel
Radio is 2.15.00.07.28
in virtuous 2.7 the focus on my camera sux, especially for night pics w/ flash.
radio 2.05.00.06.11
Just sharing my two cents. I'm running virtuous 2.7 with king's kernal #4, rooted with s-off and 2.15 radio, also on 2.2. Just checked camera after reading this thread and not experiencing any probs thus far. Auto focus working, using touchscreen to take photos.
Im a newb, so I didn't do any modifications other than following directions on this site for rooting, adding roms, etc.. Not any help to you guys, sorry.
I tried downgrading back to stock 2.1, then applied the OTA Update.zip to 2.2, still no luck with the camera focus.
I have a new DInc coming to me under a warranty claim with Verizon.
Hold 'er steady...
Same story for me - won't 'lock on' to the image in order to scan the barcode ~ stock camera. Also tried the EVO camera available in the one of the ROM Manager d/l sections - not much different - for me.
Anecdotally, oddly, I let someone else try w/ my handset, and it worked for them.
SO...... either they have a more steady hand, or.....

Camera constantly refocuses when taking video

Hey guys, so I've been loving the phone in almost every way until today when I finally used it to take video for the first time. I bought a tripod attachment for my MXPE and was trying to film a short video of me talking in front of a blank white wall. When I went back to look, the video was constantly refocusing with a terrible zoom in/out effect. Now that I've done some testing it happens whether on a tripod, or in my hand. Even on a static background, it will eventually refocus. If there's any movement, whether I'm panning from side to side or something is moving on the video it will refocus. Here's a short example. Don't be fooled by thinking I'm doing some crazy trick with my hand here, it will noticeably refocus for any reason, including me just moving my hands while talking in front of it. Also keep in mind the phone is on a stable tripod, so any movement is entirely the camera or software. I just didn't want to get on camera or show significant parts of where I live. I've searched to see if anyone else has this problem and unfortunately all I found was a reddit thread with almost no responses. I should say I'm on stock, no modifications to my phone. The camera is set to save to internal memory so micro sd shenanigans aren't a factor either. I've used the stock app, Google Camera and Open Camera and they all exhibit this refocusing behavior.
So what's up, are other people experiencing this also, or is my otherwise great phone working with a somehow busted camera? It takes photos just fine, though now that I think about it, it does the same zoom in/out refocusing when I move the camera photo mode too. I remember trying to take a picture of a spider and the camera wouldn't stop trying to focus long enough for me to get a clear shot. Is this a software deal, or do I need to talk to Motorola? If it's a software deal, why is no one else talking about this?
Edit: I used the "focus lock" shortcut in Open Camera and was able to make it stop. But that means I can't use the default app or Google Camera. What the heck guys?
Its an issue in low light (indoors) when the subject moves. I submitted a complaint with video sample on the official forums and moto responded it was expected for thr camera to re-search for focus when the subject moves.
However I later received an email from the moto camera team asking them for more information which I provided. Who knows maybe they are trying to improve it.
This issue exists on the nexus 6 also and is much worse btw.
I've made the same test and got similar results.
It seems that each time a new element appears the camera tends to change the focus, it looks like it trying to adapt to the new situation.
I'm also no happy with this issue.
Please keep posting if there's any news from Motorola.
Yes, definitely. I shoot a lot of videos of people playing piano, and it's constantly refocusing because the hands never stop moving. :/
Hopefully, this will be fixed in the future.
I have been having the exact same problem recently. For me, it's not even when the subject is moving. Take this video of my son for example ( drive.google.com/file/d/12BqfnL7OoEvV3CSWim-OCgxiHID4mrMeFQ/view ). Notice that it keeps refocusing even though he and the camera are barely moving. There seemed to be plenty of light coming in the window. Is there no way to fix this?
FYI, I finally contacted Motorola Support about this issue because it is so bad, in my case, and they instructed me to send in my phone for repair. Twelve days later, I receive my phone back, and the camera still has issues with focusing while using the camera. I wrote them back to find out what they are going to do now, so I will update here when I hear back. This is SO FRUSTRATING. I would not advise buying a Moto X Pure for the time-being, if you want a functioning video camera.
You can lock focus on the stock camera app by long pressing the focus bracket. I don't know if this was added recently but I found this thread among several others on google search and none of them mentioned it. Cheers!
I forgot to update here after my debacle finished.
Motorola Support had me send in my phone again soon after I got it back from them the first time. I asked them why nothing changed with the phone, and the tech said they mis-marked the problem in their system as a problem with the flash. /sigh So all they did was replace the flash and return the phone. What a waste.
The next time I sent in the phone, they just went ahead and replaced the phone entirely. I got back the new phone, and guess what? Exact. Same. Problem.
I finally posted the video on YouTube where the camera constantly refocuses, and a user suggested downloading a totally different camera app, like "Camera MX." I did so, and immediately noticed a huge difference! I couldn't believe the majority of the focusing problem was caused by Motorola's buggy Camera app, but that does seem to be the case. Unbelievable.
So if you have this problem, download another camera app like "Camera MX," and it should help the refocusing problem a ton.

AOD lighting up the entire screen.

I've noticed that the Always On Display now lights up the entire screen, not just the pixels for the clock and date. As you can see in the pics, even the areas that are supposed to be black (i.e. unlit) are lit up in a dark black-ish kind of glow. This seems to be appearing after the most recent update. Is anyone else seeing this issue on their phones? Is this a software issue or a display problem? Would appreciate some insights on this. Thanks.
I dont have this problem

Technically speaking black color on AMOLED displays just turns off the pixels of the phone, it won't light up like what I saw from your picture.
If you are using a screen filter app such as twilight or night owl disable it and check, if not maybe try to reset your phone and I hope that is software related nothing more.

Not using those apps. I did a phone reset, but the problem persists.
Did You purchase Your phone from an official Samsung seller? Only phones with non AMOLED panel would light up the whole screen.
Edit: just checked my AOD, Your AOD looks slightly different than mine. On my AOD I can see a date and two small icons.
Can you post similar pictures with the default AOD clock widget?
I'm also experiencing the same issue with my S7 Edge. Problem started out of the blue two days ago; there might have been Play Store updates but I dont reckon any system updates that day. I've been using the night clock for weeks and it was working fine before now.
The problem seems to affect only AOD and night clock, since the edge feed (rubbing the side) works completely fine - only lights the used pixels. AOD and night clock light up the whole screen (not much, but clearly visible in a dark room, grayish background)
Tried resetting and flashing older firmwares via Odin but nothing changed. Hope we find an answer to this, it's shame I cant use the night clock nor the AOD since its killing battery now. :/
I remember S6 edge having the same issue with night clock?

Mine is working fine. You must have received an update to something in the last few days if it worked before. Either that or it's a hardware issue.
This seems like a LCD and not AMOLED.. Did you get your display changed due to any reason?
OP stated that the problem occured after an update, so I think it was working fine before that? So I wouldnt say he has S7 edge with LCD display (for whatever reason that's even possible). I can say this for sure about my situation anyway. No display changes or any other repairs, it just started malfunction for no apparent reason.
I tried a third party app for AOD and it worked flawlessy... so the built-in AOD (& night clock) lights the whole screen, while edge feed and 3rd party AOD don't. Confusing.
@vrblr2405 : did you try night clock or 3rd part aod? Is the problem still there?

No. This is not an LCD, it's an AMOLED. This is an S7 Edge that I bought two weeks ago. Haven't changed the display or anything like that.

This is the native AOD that comes preinstalled. Version 1.4.02. I've noticed that the edge clock also lights up the whole screen. Could you tell me which third party AOD app to use ? That way I can check and identify if it is a display problem or a software issue.
Try a fresh ODIN install of latest stock firmware
vrblr2405: I used (well, tried) Always on Screen by FayaX. Just make sure you disable the built-in AOD first and give the app the permissions it's asking for. Could you also check if the edge feed is working properly and doesn't lit up the screen? You know, the rubbin' thingy If those two work properly, I'm certain we are facing the same issue
@amritpal2489 : flashing stock didn't help on my situation, but of course it's always good to try.. I've been going through different (stock)firmwares now, just to see if something would change. No luck so far, downloading third one now.
Is there more to reset than the 4 files (AP, BL, CP, CSC)? How's the re-partition in Odin?
I'm unrooted, so I'll stick with stock fw's, but I'm wondering if there is something that's not "resetting" or if I can do something more to get to start every bit and piece from scratch.
Don't even think about re-partitioning in ODIN.. Its not required.
Moreover if you have already flashed stock firmware using ODIN then it is surely a hardware fault buddy. Get it checked at authorised service centre even if it is out of warranty. They will let you know the exact issue. Getting it repaired through them is your choice finally.
Yeah I guess that's what I need to do. Luckily there is a Samsung Service Center nearby.
I just can't understand why would the exactly same function work on a different app if it's hardware related. That's the reason I'm baffled with things to try to get it working.
@vrblr2405, let me know how it works out and share your thoughts, thanks!

So I downloaded the app you said. The AOD works fine with that app. I tried a couple of other third party AOD apps. The AOD works fine - only the pixels for the clock light up. So it seems to be a software issue with the Samsung AOD.
I tried the edge feeds and it works fine. No lighting up the entire screen. The entire screen being lit up happens only with the preinstalled aod apparently.
I don't intend to root my phone at least till the warranty is valid, so sticking with the original Samsung software. Will go to a service center get this checked.

Just a dumb thought. Wondering if the clock type might make difference. The default one is just a simple white one. Image attached.

Weird. Have you ever rooted the device or is rooted right now?

OnePlus 6T issues

Hello everyone,
this is my first post here on XDA, so I hope I'm following standards here.
I got my second OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 6T (Mirrorblack 8GB+128GB) about two weeks ago and it has really been an upgrade from my previous OnePlus 3. However I have had some issues that make the overall impression a bit worse.
My first problem is with the camera. When taking pictures with the flash it turns the flash one for a while then turns if off for a moment before turning it back on and taking the picture. This super annoying when you are posing with a couple of friends! This doesn't happend when using the front facing flash feature. Also when you take picture with Snapchat the camera also is super slow. However it's the inverse as enabling the flash makes the camera much faster. I'm not sure if it's an OnePlus issue or an Snapchat one, I know snapchat has lots of problems so could be on their end. I also know that I didn't have the issue on my OnePlus 3.
My second problem is one that have happend very rarely, two or three times yet. It's that sometimes when I start an app, it just crashes. And I can restart it how many times I want without any difference. Force stopping it does work sometimes as with clearing cache. But sometimes doing that makes the device reboot itself. Sometimes it just keeps on rebooting itself. The solution for it as it seems is to reboot it manually, but it's extremely annoying to have it happen. It's difficult to know whats wrong since it doesn't say anything useful really.
Does anyone else have similar issues? Could it be some corruption issue or some bad app I have installed?
Do a factory reset. As for the camera that's called a slow sync with the flash as its getting the picture ready and focused, that short flash at the end is to light the picture. If it stayed on the whole time it would blind you subject as its brighter than the front camera and would most likely give red eye.
I don't have a suggestion for your second problem as I have not experienced it but also about the camera thing you mentioned, it doesn't happen when you take a picture with the front with the fake flash because the front camera has a fixed focus so it doesn't have to acquire focus like the back camera does when lighting in a dim environment.

This happens for the following reason:
- first flash - phone usues auto focus to make you and your friends, dog, food or whatever you are shooting clear and the
- second flash - after it achieves the AF lock it flashes a little bit brighter to take the photo
If you use a digital camera, DSLR, or any other camera, you will notice that they have a led light that iluminates you in the dark, then uses the xenon flash to take the photo

If you take the picture in the dark it might just try to achieve AF lock. Activating the flash does that a little faster.

You can try reflashing Oxygen OS and see if this still happens. If it does sent it to warranty
