News from OnePlus and Cyanogen on battery drain and new update - ONE General

This is what Steve Kondik posted on OnePlus forums:
Just a quick update on the power issue in 30O..
Two issues that ended up in the build were identified and fixed. They weren't affecting everyone and were subject to hardware variations and timing, but our engineers worked quickly to get them resolved. The first issue was a very low-level system bus problem, while the second was a problem with how the proximity sensor is used to prevent false unlocks from gestures and double taps. We pride ourselves in the performance and low power consumption of 11S, and after these fixes our lab tests show improved numbers vs. 25R! This will go out as a small hotfix as soon as it's approved. Additionally, we are preparing another update in parallel that brings a few new features, a beautified lock screen, audio enhancements, polish on the new features in 30O, and of course bug fixes.
Both of these new builds are in the final testing and approval phases. I can't give any ETA because we are subject to third parties, but you should see the power hotfix in the next couple of days with the bigger update right on it's heels.
To ensure this doesn't happen again, we are bulking up our automated test systems to cover more cases, more often. Being a startup is both a blessing and a curse- while we can move fast on issues and updates, we are still building our automation and infrastructure. We depend on your feedback to tell us what we're doing right, as well as wrong! Additionally, we are working hard to reduce the time between updates even further so that they are more manageable.
Hang in there for just a bit and that unkillable battery will make a triumphant return.

I dont have that issue, but hope it will help you guys that have it.

Nothing new on this right? Just checked the thread not long ago and it was still in testing.

It was post 4 days ago, nothing new?

It's an old post. Fix still under test and would be released when approved internally in CM. Been waiting for the hotfix since past few days.

This drain is so damn annoying. Been thinking of rolling back but really need the speaker phone fix that came in this update.

I wonder if we go back to 25r if we will have to go to 30O then apply the new update or will they have a "new and improved" fixed 30O? BTW is your ability to have a different wallpaper on your lockscreen than on your home screen broken also?

I'm lucky if I can get 4 hours screen on time... Given I don't get good service for 8 hours, but still. I tried all the "fixes" out there. No luck.

Using the battery monitor widget I noticed my drain to be around 250ma with good signal and screen on, and well over 650ma when no signal. So keep in mind that lack of signal can triple your drain :/

Btw. Someone posted this as a workaround for the battery drain. Dont know how true it is but if you are willing to try...
Flash the Franco R13 kernel*
Quote*
Just pushed r13 which has a newer Touch Panel firmware from CM. Touch sensitivity seems much improved, which is a VERY welcomed plus. Also added support for PS3 controllers via OTG. I'll add MultiRom support on r14. Enjoy
Works fine with double tap to wake and capacitive buttons disabled. good battery life so far

or try and flash AK CM11S version, maybe latest _31b14 w/o changing back to 25R or smth else, (just to give a try as it is easier to change the Kernel than the ROM (you know...restoring stuff ))

[Q] Galaxy S4 - excellent choice!

I've had my first S4 for 7 days. Needed 3 hard resets in the first week - UI freezes, hangs etc. Took it back to Telstra, confirmed bad hardware and gave me a new phone. Second handset has been fantastic - fast, smooth, stable.
Most Samsung features work pretty well - drama shot for junior sports coaching is an excellent idea. Love the fact that I can upgrade storage via SD card, link with Dropbox and can swap the battery for higher capacity if needs be. No need as yet - heavy use and my battery lasts more than 10 hours.
If you experience any interface issues, get the handset swapped: probably just a rare lemon. Thanks to everyone who responded on this thread.
Initial issues: features are unstable (gestures, air view, smart scroll, interface and keyboard hangs).
Now I definitely don't regret this new phone having used many different types over the years (Blackberry, HTC TiTan Windows mobile, iPhone 3, iPhone 4, now Android).
Send it back to Telstra for a replacement

Should be fine. No issues what so ever with mine on Optus - rooted and remove all Optus craps.
Of course it will. When you have all your music, pictures and some data sitting on a slow device (like an old sd card), then indexing slows down (picture gallery, videos, music. map data). Like any IT system, a fast phone will be slowed down by the slowest link - if that bottleneck is the sd card, then it needs to be remediated.
That is the reason why I did not get the S4. To new technology for me to mess with.

Will definitely update the thread title to more accurately reflect my experience with the device. But surely I need more than 3 hours for the device to prove itself??
Flash performance, and SW performance degrades over time, so I'm giving this phone 48 hours to prove it's stable, before changing my mind.
I'm not convinced yet, but at least the signs are positive in the first 3 hours.

Of course I will, once satisfied this was just a bad piece of hardware one-off. But performance degraded over time, I will post updates over the weekend and hopefully change this title to "satisfied" on Sunday (ie 48 hours to ensure it was just an anomaly)

24 hours after exchanging the handset, I must say this one is much more stable and I have confidence in my choice again.Hopefully it continues to please and there's no freeze. 24 hours now of smooth use, no hangups/freezes.
But, the native email app crashes every now and then, only while checking Exchange emails. Anybody else seeing that?

AOSP Rom

Was able to get a ROM built and running based on LRX21V straight from source. Just trying to get a feel on how many people would want to run AOSP. There are some bugs present such as video recording causing the camera to stop working. I think there are binaries missing that Google didn't include in the binaries that are available. Same problem happened on the Nexus 5. Didn't test it much as I just purely wanted to see if it booted.
Also there is a lack of gapps available so I won't be rushing to get anything out. Let me know what y'all think and I'll try to tackle this to get some other options out for us.
Here is the test build for those that want to have a look. This is just a test build so bugs are to be expected. Video recording does not work. Haven't tested it completely as I need a fully working device this weekend. This is for those that have free time to just nit pick and find all bugs in this. Please report back after you are done and let me know what else you may have found that is broken or not working right.
Stock Google kernel (so if you flashed the kernel image to remove encryption your phone WILL be encrypted again)
Built off 5.0.0_r7 from AOSP
Flash ROM, flash gapps and flash SU that is linked below. This will allow root access on the stock kernel.
You can also optionally flash the custom boot image after flashing the ROM, gapps and SU by rebooting to bootloader and fastboot flash boot the custom encryption kernel. That is optional. Be sure to go back in to recovery after flashing the kernel to reflash the SU to make sure it was not overwritten.
Download Rom:AFH Mirror

That is pretty offensive. It is a new device and isn't in the developers hand so releasing work without testing their work leads to quality problems.
I don't see you doing any development work and developers don't owe anyone anything as they do all this work as a hobby pretty much.

I know the reasons behind it, which was the point of the "no offense." I wasn't whining. I was trying to help motivate and encourage OP. He, as well as others, are working on making things happen and I'm excited for it and waiting eagerly for the kernel source to drop.
You took what I said the wrong way, so step off of your soap box, zephiK.

No. Minor bug fixes for the particular device it was made for but that's it. I did notice on the N5 that there was a significant "miscellaneous" battery drain on r7. Might roll back to r3 if its present since r3 is the one for us (its also the same build for the N5).

Oh, but it will.. And it does. Rooting alone allows you to do most of the things you can do on a custom ROM, but you're doing it to the stock ROM. Even without a custom recovery, you can still modify system files, freeze/uninstall system apps, run root apps, etc.

Where did you hear that the battery life isn't good?
I typically get 2.5 days per full charge with between 4.5 and 6 hours of screen on time per charge depending on if I am reading, or doing media (games, youtube).
If anything I would wait for the Note 5, but that will be a while. I'd suggest getting the Note 4 because it's quite simply a very amazing beast of a phone and then using JUMP to upgrade in 6 months if you so desire.

Compared to the process of rooting a htc how difficult is it to root the note 4
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
It's way easier to root the note 4:
You're in in 5.
Here are the instructions:

Had to do one at my parents house.
It took me 10 minutes because I was downloading a rom, at the same time, and my parents internet sucks.

Moto G 2015 15 Days Usage Review (India) + Ask Queries

Hello people,
I'm from India.
This is my better-late-than-never video review of the Moto G 2015.
If any queries regarding the product, ask away.
Do watch it. This the first review I have ever done.
Also, suggest for improvements.
Thanks

The screen is responsive enough. You may see it in the video, there is no lag and stuttering.
Ahhh maybe I should flash some new stock firmware then to update touchscreen drivers....
Could you confirm what radio your g3 is running, is it still 26R?
What is the charge times on your device?

I am coming from moto g 2013 and I must say it's a huge improvement. The phone is very responsive. And apart from some network glitches initially, the phone has settled down quite nicely!

You did a great job on your video. Unbelievably good camera work. Thanks

Doubts about getting OTA after flashing CM and then going back to stock
Hi,I am planning to buy the moto g3 16gb here in India.
So what i am thinking i gonna do is-
After first boot-->update to marshmallow-->unlock bootloader-->flash ported twrp(available here on xda)-->take aa full nandroid backup(maybe 2 backups!)-->flash super su
Or after backing up,directly flash CM12.1 snapshot and try ito
Here is the thread to restore factory images-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3169639
Will this process restore stock recovery, motorola stated that unlocking of bootloader doesn't affect the eligibility to get OTAs.Restoring nandroid will restore system but not recoveey and i cannot find a way to backup stock one
Also,i want to know if CM13 would be made officially for moto g3?then there would be no point for me to go to stock:fingers-crossed:

For getting OTA sucessfully flashed u need stock recovery and only stock rom only can do that... So u have to flash the stock rom with fastboot availale here in xda... I tried that and it work perfectly.
Battery drainig fast after update to marshmallow
I got ota update in my moto g3..nw I m in marshmallow.. But the main prob is after update to marshmallow I m getting lower battery backup than lollipop 5.1.1 ..
Then I talked to moto tech support team , they told me to do factory reset,n turnoff WiFi n Bluetooth scanning..I did all things but still battery drainig very faster than lolipop..

I have been unable to root my replacement from AT&T with the latest update, but that may just be my experience.

Ok thanks. I guess I will hold off on updating to the newest firmware.

I know it's too early but people please report battety life after updating.
Just got it on my original note, after the update it tells me to power down my device lol. No green battery either, hopefully they have replacements tomorrow.

I didn't get any say in whether the update installed or not. It actually woke me up in the middle of the night last night, it downloaded and installed without my interaction. I guess they're making this one mandatory... (well for those of us that didn't freeze the update service.)

This is basically what the update is doing (on my phone anyway...) Built in nag screen now. Lovely.

This breaks current root method!!!!
How big was your update ? Mine was only around 97meg.
I too had my update pushed onto the phone while I slept...No choice and I woke this morning with a green icon on bat and lockscreen...
Haven't found anything else that is changed.
I am interested to see how battery life is..

Same here
I have noticed that I can no longer change content scaling. It's there but greyed out. If in touch it it says that it must be QHD and can't be changed. That's an odd one...

Build information for those who are interested.
Also I'm a bit disappointed it's still only security patch for August, the Verizon updated bumped them to the September 1st patch.

I'm on a replacement model and have the display scaling feature still. I wonder if it's something they changed for the older models.
The green battery Icon is disgusting. Can it be hidden without root?
I got the update as well, green battery icon or more distinguished battery icon....also when I hold down the power button to turn it off it now has a battery percentage along eith power off reset and what not, not sure if that is nes or not the added battery life on power hold that is. Wonder what else it was cause it was like 112mb download.

Did we get the same update as T-Mobile? It seems that got performance improvements.

+1 with the silly nag screen..... Why nag if there is nothing I can do about it? Store is not open and replacements not available.
